This museum and learning experience are a fresh breath of education and history amongst all the tourist locations. The grounds are beautiful. The exhibits are informative. There is a short video introduction, house to tour, and an underground exhibit where you can learn about the early people who lived there. It was an interesting stop. The employees and volunteers were phenomenal.

This is the second time my mom and I have visited this site/museum. There has been a great deal of effort put into making it a beautiful and educational experience. Anyone who visits Fort Myers Beach should not miss this exhibit! I highly suggest The Mound House tour. Update: we went back AGAIN this year for their beginners kayak tour. What a deal! The guides were wonderful, and estuary was so beautiful, and we got to see all kinds of birds, as well as dolphins, manatee, and even stingrays. Dexter is a phenomenal guide, and we've already decided we will be going back for kayaking experiences here in the future. Don't miss it!

We went with a group on a day that the museum was closed. The museum's manager, Adam, gave us a great tour and history lesson over the course of about 2 hours. The museum and its grounds are limited; without the opportunity to have a guide it would not have been as enjoyable.

Beautiful property. Wasn't able to view the homes interior as there are limited days to see it. Property has a great deal of educational information regarding the local flora and fauna.

Very interesting place. If you do the boat tour to Mound Key, be aware the trail is rough and there are some steep hills. I would recommend closed toed shoes. Mound Key doesn't have too much to see, there are information boards, but no structures. The view on top is pretty and the ride over was great, but if you are expecting structures and artifacts on the key, you may be disappointed. The trail through the mangroves and trees is actually very pleasant. It can be very warm, take water. The guide was very informative about the area, history, birds and plants. The boat crew as well. We were able to see several bird varieties and dolfins.

Beautiful park and museum! Lots of interesting flora and fauna to inspect on the grounds. The museum is small but well done throughout the house. The underground exhibit of the shell mound is not open yet due to Ian damage last year, but it's still well worth visiting the property... And coming back in a few months when all the exhibits are fully restored and open again. Staff is cheerful and friendly and happy to answer questions.

I so enjoyed learning about the history of the area. We moved to Fort Myers from Ohio. When I visited the Mound House, I so enjoyed seeing the beautiful plants and flowers. I learned about the local fruits and vegetation from walking the grounds and reading the wonderful information provided near each vegetation. As I wondered through the Mound House, I continued to learn about the beginning of human civilization that started call Fort Meyers Beach their home. This included the rich Indian heritage that fostered the ethnocentric residency.

Compelling history about Calusa Indians with unique look into the archeological dig site (discovered under the former swimming pool). Adam & Bobby brought the history to life on our tour. We enjoyed it so much we came back for a kayak tour of the estuary with them as well. (Really great deal if you become museum members- wish we joined on the first trip!) We were looking for covid safe activities and both tours were perfect. Gift shop had unique items - great place to do holiday shopping -especially with your member discount! Great guides- highly recommend.

Lovely park with sunshine and gardens to enjoy. The small house was 10/person for a tour, so we skipped that.

Excellent opportunity for our students. Everyone enjoyed learning about our local history and had fun. The staff and volunteers were engaging and knowledgeable. Highly recommended for a school trip and also as a return for a parent with your family. They have kayak tours and the location is beautiful!

We took the Mound Key Boat tour and had a terrific time. Our guide, Penny, was incredibly knowledgeable about the Calusa and the early settlers on Mound Key and at the Mound House site. We all came away with a thirst for more. It helped that we had a lovely day for a boat ride and the Captains from Express Bay Express tours did a great job of getting us there and back. Add the terrific birding and a little dolphin action and it turned into a perfect day.

This is a little gem of a place I've lived on Fort Myers Beach since I was a child in second grade in elementary school and for now is just a teenager Florence along with there and we used to mow her lawn and go swimming or pool and little did we know that we were swimming where the actual Mound was that's where the part you walk underneath now was where her pool was he donated it to the city of Fort Myers Beach or the talents shall I say I stand corrected and what an interesting wok and toward that is if you're here visiting that is a must

Today on Ruthanne’s first Kayaking Trip Ever ! : We paddled into the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve. There we saw Lots of wildlife (even saw a dolphin) and our guide was very informative : We got some good exercise: But the most remarkable thing ‘is that we didn’t tip over’ ! 😊) Although Synchronizing the paddling with one’s spouse may be a little stressful at times 🙄 ❤️ : Overall we both had fun . Plus ! Now we know a-lot bout The ecological benefits of the Red Mangrove 😎

My husband and I had read about Mound House Museum and decided to check it out. We were greeted by staff who explained Mound House and the aboriginal natives who occupied the lands. We were so impressed by the historical facts that we decided to do the kayak tour the following day. We were greeted by staff and explained what to expect. Katie-Beth and Gerri were absolutely wonderful and informative. They both had so much knowledge of the estuary and how the mangroves are so vital to the ecosystem of not just the area but the planet. They took our questions as well as listened to our knowledge of the environment. Mound House Museum and the Kayak Tour is a must for anyone visiting Fort Myers Beach. Mona & Mona Ontario, Canada

We stumbled upon The Mound House while driving Fort Myers Beach, saw the sign and decided to tour. Very informative and well put together. They did a wonderful job creating a museum to enrich visitors with local knowledge, focused largely on the Caloosa tribe. They also have a very kid friendly experience for each room, which was great for my kiddos.

Beautifully landscaped and well-groomed, the Mound House is always a treat. The grounds have resilient walking paths with educational markers. You can even walk out into the bay on a circular dock. It is incredible how the entire property is elevated on the giant mound created by ancient dweller's discarded clam shells, bones, and other discarded materials. The people who work here are very friendly and well informed.

Absolutely perfect museum with a hands-on approach. We all had so much fun walking around the property, being able to touch reproduction tools, and seeing the incredible 140-year-old strangler fig-tree. Make sure to check this gem out!

Brought my 6 year old and 8 year old Kayaking at Mound house. It was alot of fun but not quiet what I expected. The kayaking is in the canal along side the mangroves. You don't actually kayak through the mangroves. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about local birds, animals and sealife. He shared many interesting facts. We did see a few dolphins at one point and different birds.

Disappointed, no guide, read and learn on your own, no demonstrations, they had them before. Don't go in the offseason!!

AMAZING! Our experience was related to a kayaking tour (2 hours) launched from the Mound House through Estero Bay. We were guided by Yvette and Marina through the mangroves seeing beautiful wildlife that Yvette explained expertly. The House is also a TREMENDOUS exhibit; a must see for everyone!

Learned quite a bit about Florida early history. Took the guided tour, and found our tour guide to be quite knowledgeable, interesting and interactive giving information, and then challenging us with questions to ensure understanding. There was a demonstration of early Calusa tools and hunting implements.
