This place is good for breakfast or lunch, even though is not as consistent and generous as it used to be with their portions. They have cut back on their portions and has become slightly over priced as well. I had some green sauce chilaquiles with chicken, and it had 3 thin sliced strips of avocado, three small strips of chicken and very little green sauce, so had to asked them for extra green sauce. Basically half of what I used to get. The biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs are still very good as always. The establishment still has good food and great service, but they are becoming too expensive for the portions they serve you.

Very good place to get good, tasty, made-to-order food! The breakfast menu is extensive and offers a wide variety of choices. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Recommend going on a weekday to avoid long wait. Service was quick and attentive. Big portions, fresh ingredients and delicious. Good coffee. They did pretty good on the Bacon bibimbap.

I enjoyed the chicken sausage and goat cheese scrambler and a side of chorizo hash. Flavorful and tasty. They haven't perfected the potatoes for both, a bit on the wet side side for my taste. I like the farmhouse atmosphere. Service was friendly but if you're in a rush you should take your food to go

I love a good brunch spot. It was a 30 min wait for 3 of us and they had the texting system. To wait, we stopped by the farmer’s market, so the texting system was tested and actually goes through long ranges. You’re welcome! 😊 I got a make your own skillet and it was very delicious! They had so many different variations. The waitress was kind as well. Also, loved sitting in a booth. Very cozy to say the least!

I come here with friends after church about five times a year and it’s always a pleasant experience. They give out coffee while you’re waiting, and the coffee is high end! All of the food options are delicious, but I usually go with a skillet. Parking is sometimes hard to find, but other than that it is a great breakfast place.

EXTREMELY disappointing!! We are frequent guests at the Oak Brook location and we recently moved and we’re excited to find the DG location for this Sunday’s breakfast!! Had we known how poor of an experience it would be we would have stayed home. Our server was nice enough but never greeted us or told us his name. He was extremely slow and really had no sense of anticipation as to what may be needed at the table like waters, and extra napkins because the coffee pot had coffee running down the sides and all over the table. He never once asked how are meal was or if there was anything else we needed? He then just showed up with the check. We were also very disappointed that in this age of coffee they don’t have a barista!! What no Barista!? For the money you pay here that should be a no brainer. Then on top of that the standard coffee was over cooked and not good at all. The food was also quite disappointing as my wife’s Avocado toast was so lightly toasted it was basically bread. The eggs that came with my 6 year olds meal were old looking and if there was one full egg that would have been a lot. The fruit was in terrible shape and looked as though it was sitting for days brown and desiccated grapes and pineapple that was dark yellow moving towards almost orange color. All This for over $50. I understand that in these times of the Pandemic post or otherwise things are tough and some things are out of managements and ownerships control. However, when you go out to dine you are looking for some quality and an experience unfortunately neither was found this day and both of these things can be controlled by management and employees. Needless to say we will not be going back to DG location. We will drive and extra 15 minutes to get what we pay for.

Very prompt service on an absolutely cold weekend. Good food and polite people. Highly recommend this place.

Never a complaint when dining here. One of the best breakfast places I've experienced. The lobster scrambler (creamy rich) is my usual "go to" dish but this last visit I opted for the avocado toast meal which I highly recommend. You can't go wrong with any menu option at EH.

I've been to a different Egg Harbor location in the past so I figured to try this location today. I ordered the Aztec Omelette instead of the Habanero Hash and it was just as delicious. The wait staff was very courteous and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Great brunch!

Great service and atmosphere. Food wasn't anything to brag about. Alot of people gave me Great reviews before going. Nothing was bad, but I had felt I could of made a better meal at home. They also removed biscuit and gravy from the menu which was sad

What an awesome breakfast experience! It was our first time at Egg Harbor and it couldn't have went better. The staff is very friendly, our server Adrian was polite and professional and didn't miss a beat! The food was fantastic! Gracias mucho to the kitchen staff! Without the beautiful culinary mastery of the Kitchen Staff this would be a completely different restaurant! 10/10

I visited this location on 5/15/2022 for my birthday. The worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We asked for a table outside and waited 20 minutes before I had to ask a waiter to send someone to give us some menus. A manger (I presume) came by minutes later and apologized for the wait he then took our beverage order and gave us some menus. He proceeded to take 20 minutes before coming back to take our order, by that time we were fed up with the terrible service and decided to pay for our drinks and leave. He came by and said he could place our orders and I told him we were leaving, he then proceeded to blame me for the wait. I have gone to other egg harbor locations, Barrington, Schaumburg, and Oakbrook and have never been treated this way. I’m very disappointed and will not be visiting this location anymore.

This was my first time to this location and it was such a wonderful experience. I am always hesitant to go to restaurants because I travel with a Service Dog and more often than not I have to worry about staff trying to distract her or pet her or speak to her and ignore me…etc. The staff at this facility did a wonderful job. They acknowledged that she was accompanying me by speaking to me (not her). The host, Zach, who seated us said he wanted to put us somewhere where we will feel like we won’t be bothered (not so we are out of others way). My server, Claire, did wonderful. She spoke to me the entire time. After she had already taken my order, gotten me my coffee, and after I had been served my food….(ie after she had made sure I was taken care of) she then asked what my Service Dog’s name was, briefly peaked at her but then ignored her the rest of the time. This is how you are supposed to behave around Service Dog Teams. Thank you Claire and thank you Zach for such a wonderful experience. We will be back! ❤️Kristin 🐾K9 O.

I was there a few day ago on a Monday, at 11:00 am. I was with three other people , the restaurant was probably 2/3 full. 2 of us ordered traditional meat breakfasts, and two ordered omelets. We waited probably 40 minutes for our food, and the food on every ones plate was COLD! From the eggs, to the bacon, the english muffins, and the potatoes were stale, The coffee was not fresh and the waitress never came back in between to ask if we needed a refill. I would never go back to this Egg harbor again. If you are in the area, try The Harvest pancake house .The food is fresh, hot, the coffee is great and fresh and the waitress keeps your cup fill. The service is very good I have never had a bad breakfast there. I only went to Egg harbor because the majority wanted to go there. Never again!

  • 1/5 Vianey E. 1 year ago on Google
Food was cold and when brought to our waitress attention, she took it back and just put it in the microwave making my avocados slices hot. Pretty much tasted like cafeteria food and definitely not worth the money. Potatoes were bland and seems like just frozen food. Nothing fresh about it. No thanks.

Stumbled upon this place while driving around with an out of town guest. It was a lil less than an hour from closing so we weren't sure if they'd seat us. But they did and it was a very pleasant experience. We weren't rushed at all though we did do our best not too stay too long and keep them. So glad I found this place. Food was amazing. So many great breakfast options. Nice atmosphere and good portions. So amazing I made a second visit a few days later with a business associate. While I have a couple of options closer to home, Egg Harbor is worth the drive. The food tasted fresher and lighter than most places too. The staff, from hostess to waitress to the curly haired gentleman who said he was helping out from a different location were so nice and friendly and accommodating. New favorite breakfast spot.

I had the Avocado Toast with scrambled eggs and fresh fruit. Delicious! Light yet filling. I highly recommend it. The help is great. Zach, the host, was very pleasent and accomodating as was my waitress whose name has escaped me. So sorry. 😉 Enjoy!

This was my first time at this restaurant and had high expectations given the reviews. How disappointing! I arrived and was told my wait would be 5-10 minutes. No problem. 18 minutes later I went back to the hostess who was apologetic and seated me. Still no problem. Not a big deal. I then sat outside at my table (at my request) and waited for another 20 minutes. No water, no waiter, no nothing. I left in disgust with the poor service, letting the hostess know, who was very apologetic. Was looking forward to breakfast. Ended up at Panera Bread Compt.

Very good food, great service on a slammed morning sitting in the same area as a party of 28(youth soccer team and parents). Food was good, portions smaller than most other breakfast places around but still filling, just not as much for leftovers the next day.

I got the classic breakfast and I loved it. It was perfectly filling and delicious. Definitely recommend stopping in here. This place only a few minutes walk from the train station, so it’s really easy to come by. :)

Always pleased when I eat at Egg Harbor Cafe! Food is delicious and the service is excellent. I also appreciate that they have a full Gluten-free menu, give you a pot of coffee and have clean restrooms! They get a 10 from me!

We have been coming to this location for years and have always loved it. Today was an exception. Both my husband and I found the scrambled eggs to be rubbery. They had obviously been prepared in advance and had sat on a warming tray in the air for some time. My bacon had puddles of grease which I sopped up with a napkin. The salt shaker is a grinder and the eggs she bought as a replacement ended up inedible because of the salt. All around poor experience

We used their online waiting service which estimated a wait of 25-30 minutes, instead it turned out to be closer to 50 minutes, so plan ahead if you're hungry. The food was good and had some unique options. Avoid the Bloody Mary, way too sour.

Ordered online, received text at 11:24am stating that my order was ready. Drove 10 min to pick it up. Upon arriving I was informed that they were “still getting it together”, ok fine. I waited over 10 min, and watched several other people including door dashers grab orders that were brought up to the front. I then asked the girl at the counter how much longer, since I received a text at 11:24 stating that it was ready. She went to the kitchen, and then came up and still said it was almost ready. I ordered a veggie scrambler, nothing outrageous. I waited an addition 10 min before asking to speak to the manager. When the manager came out she nonchalantly stated that a door dasher grabbed my order. So at this point it’s almost noon, and I’ve been waiting around this whole time without any explanation as to what originally happened, or communication right off the bat. I took the completed order, and when I got home, it looked really weird. The eggs were Crayola orange, and had a really weird taste, the bread was stale, so I ended up throwing most of it out anyway. A couple hours later I got extremely sick. I’ve dined at Egg Harbor (just not this location, this was a first for me) dozens of times and never experienced this issue. Terrible food at this location, and even worse service.

Loved it! Food was great. Service was great. Well priced. Sat outside midmorning and took in the beautiful morning in downtown. Recommend any of the skillets or pancakes.

  • 1/5 Namo 1 year ago on Google
I ordered a simple breakfast pancakes eggs, and potatoes. I only ate the pancakes because the eggs had no taste and were not cracked from the shell even though it's advertised cage free eggs are 100% certified-humane from small Midwestern family farms and the potatoes were seasoned but not fully done.

I brought my handicapped Mom to get pumpkin pancakes two weeks ago. We waited approx 15 minutes for a table and were the last people waiting to be seated when a couple entered the restaurant. They apparently knew the host and chit-chatted with her for at least 5 minutes before they were seated. About a minute or two later, the host realized that we were still waiting and finally seated us without so much as an apology. This used to be a favorite breakfast spot.

Their vegan option is a mystery concoction that tasted bland with hints of soap! Yes I meant to say soap. If your vegan like me and are out with others order something safe like toast or oatmeal. The rest of the food was fine.

Ate here a few times. Food and price is good. Nothing distinguishable, but they are consistently good. The side salad dressing is probably the only thing that needs work. The service here is always really great, which always makes me want to come back. Everyone is friendly and always making sure you're doing okay.

Egg Harbor Cafe food is simply delicious. We ate outside and the staff were appropriately heeding COVID-19 guidelines. They took our temperature when we headed inside to pay.

Food is always just okay. I was there recently and ordered a skillet that came without cheese on it which was weird so I asked them if they could put the cheese on and they put a very tiny bit on that wasn't even melted so definitely not very enjoyable. Also I'll never understand how a place that's known for breakfast can serve such horrible coffee, I mean seriously. Get some coffee that has actual flavor and that would be a huge improvement.

I love, love, loved this place! We wanted to sit outside and there seemed to be a long wait so they seated the couple in front of us at the first available and then brought out a table for us to sit at. They have a different flavor coffee every day, I had a white chocolate cinnamon. I liked that there was a variety of different options, instead of the same ol' breakfast items. AND they offered us to-go cups for our coffee at the end of the meal, we didnt have to ask.

Ok, so I've waited two weeks for someone to contact me... I am usually a nicer person and when this all happened I was extremely respectful. They asked me for my information after the incident and even had me write it down on a "claim form". So two weeks ago after my daughters drs appt we got some not so great news and I didnt want to be alone. I picked up my friend who lives right around the corner from this place and said she had been here once and that it was good. So we stopped here to have some breakfast!... I ordered a kids meal for my daughter and we place our order. EVERYTHING WAS GOING GREAT! I am feeding my daughter the eggs, potatoes, sausage, and there was this toasted muffin laying on top. I DID NOT NOTICE THAT THE MUFFIN HAD MOLD ON IT! YES PEOPLE MOLD! This was sitting on top of my 1 year-olds food that I already fed her!!! One of the servers took the issue to the manager and she came out and spoke to us, she apologized for the incident and said she would file a claim, but not before saying, "Its hot and humid so these things are time sensitive and it happens due to the whether." First and foremost, isnt it your job to make sure food is going out correctly and that you are going about the correct measures to make sure this doesnt happen!?! No one has called, do yourself a favor and just dont eat here! Despicable! P.s. my poor daughter did get diarrhea!!

This was an excellent breakfast. I love a place that has a gluten free menu and it was so easy to be dairy free. More restaurants need to be like Egg Harbor Cafe. The coffee was great along with their homemade jam. Yum!!!

I was just in with 3 friends for an early lunch. All employees were properly wearing masks, tables were a safe distance apart, they took temperature checks on our way in, and they had contactless menus. On top of all that, their menu changes seasonally (though the quality is A+ all year round) and their staff is always incredibly pleasant. Our server Daher was friendly and efficient when taking our orders and fulfilling some of our weirder requests. I had the cinnamon roll French toast and absolutely would order again.

Great service! I got one of the pancake combos with some sort of berries in top (I forgot unfortunately) and 2 eggs and a meat on the side. Top notch cold brew coffee as well. The COVID patio seating was nice, albeit in the sun. Also, I can't leave a review without complimenting the staff, they were all exceedingly polite and gave great suggestions and recommendations.

Delicious... Nuff said right? Well no. It is not. The food here was very good, well above average. So much so, we are going back up to do it again in a couple weeks. Coffee - flavor changes regularly, maybe daily, but didn't ask. Very enjoyable hazelnut this go round. Flavor was excellent with almost no bitter. Tasted great with or without cream. Food - the propriator went to great length to create a smart, savvy, responsibly sourced menu that will give you fits trying to order from only because everything looks, and sounds, delicious. Worse yet, every entreé that passes the table smells delicious to boot! Well done! A bit difficult to get to if you don't know exactly where you are going. Just park close, easy and enjoyable walk to get to the store front which is tucked away in a small residential area. Made for a fun morning, like I said, we will be back in a couple weeks!

Egg Harbor Cafe is a hidden gem tucked in Downers Grove. The location is in a great, busy part of Downers with several other small shops and stores near by. The cafe itself is welcoming, with indoor and outdoor dining and the staff is very very friendly. Food here is great, you can tell that all ingredients are fresh and high quality. Even the yolks in the eggs are a bright golden orange, which is a great sign of fresh eggs being used! Is highly recommend Egg Harbor to anyone looking for a great place to stop for breakfast or Brunch! 😊
