Food was okay, decor was beautiful. My friends and I were having a great time for my birthday until the server (Ashley) tried to pull a fast one on me and pocket all $555 of my cash that I asked to apply to the bill before putting the remainder on my card. She then charged my card for the full amount and wrote her own tip on the receipt and told me everything is all set and I am ready to sign. Typically I don’t double check the bill because I have trust in the service being provided to me since I have server experience as well, however the bill was over $2000 and I wanted to be sure. After taking a few minutes to flag my server down once again i explained to her 2x and broke down the math in which both times she was speaking over me and telling me everything was correct. I then had to ask for a manager by a different staff member because my server walked away somewhat flustered. I broke down the math once again to the manger (Anthony) and he immediately apologized and told me I was correct. Not only that, my friends brought a beautiful cupcake arrangement for me in the shape of a bouquet however the staff completely disassembled the arrangement before bringing it to the table when they were told not to in the beginning of the night resulting in me not being able to see it. It’s terrible that such beautiful establishments in Philly hire staff with no integrity. I will not be returning.

I went alone in my work uniform on a busy Sunday evening. I was treated like a queen. The greeter (PERFECT) My waitress (PERFECT) My food (PERFECT). THIS WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME!!! I met the restaurant manager and she was amazing, pleasant, attentive and genuine. My new favorite spot.

Classy, elegant and steak that is out of this world. Feels like stepping back in time when you come here, or a place that Sinatra would be seen at. Upscale and pricey, but with the service and menu to back it up. It is vibrant and exciting inside, while being dimly lit and low key at the same time.

We went here on a Friday evening. It was pretty busy. We were not able to find reservations online, used chase concierge service to make a dinner reservation for us. The atmosphere was nice and lively. Our waiter, Ricky, was a funny and pleasant guy who was good at his work. 5 ⭐ for the service. The food was fine. To start off we got their complimentary biscuits and butter and those were some of the best biscuits I have ever had. For appetizers we got butcher salad (minus the salami) and onion soup. The soup was okay but the salad was good. For main we got their Australian wagyu and lobster Newberg. They were both nice but nothing out of the world. Their stuffed hash brown was something new for us but at this point we had too much greasy food that we could barely eat it. As far as the good is concerned, we would give them a 3.5/5. 5/5 for service.

Outstanding steakhouse!! My family and I had an incredible meal here that was to die for. First off, a shoutout to our waiter Ryan (no B!). He was incredibly helpful with suggestions and explaining the menu. We were happy with all of our choices. To break it down: Drinks were great! I enjoyed my blackberry cosmopolitan very much. The rest of my family later got a wine that they loved as well. For salads, I loved everything from the shrimp and crab Louie to the wedge salad to that AMAZING crab cake. Can’t go wrong here! Then, as a family we just split the delmonico and the 32 oz porterhouse. It was all completely devoured. For sauces, we loved both the horseradish and the truffle butter. 10/10 on both. For sides, the loaded hash browns are a must and we all liked the creamed spinach too. Lastly, dessert. The peanut butter tart was easily the best and the homemade ice cream was super tasty. However, the desserts didn’t quite live up to the quality of the rest of the food. The chocolate fudge cake was just decent and the scoops for the ice cream were extremely small. Otherwise though, great experience all around!

OMG. Service and food was amazing. My Tomahawk steak was charred to perfection.French onion soup very rich and tasteful. Lobster and fried shrimp so so good. Decor very elegant and romantic. Perfect setting for my 22 year wedding anniversary. We will be back.😋👍

Fabulous steak dinner at this restaurant! The Delmonico steaks were done to perfection. The marbled fat in the steaks was rendered perfectly. Words can't describe the hash brown potatoes. The seafood appetizer, salads and side dishes met all expectations. Our waitress was of the same caliber as the food. I also recommend the baked Alaska for dessert. We did not feel that we were rushed at all through our experience.

Butcher and Singer is a classy, sophisticated, but comfortable restaurant. The service was perfect, and the food was amazing. Absolutely delicious down to the bread on the table. Be ready to spend money, but know that you'll be getting what you pay for, and it will be worth it!

Another excellent experience this weekend as usual. We've been a guest at B&S more than a few dozen times & it's easily our favorite steakhouse in the city. A real test to a restaurant's service is how they handle mishaps and out of nearly 40 visits, I'd gotten an overcooked steak. Our server Ashley was awesome all evening, and after a quick checkback and being made aware - she quickly removed it for a replacement. The manager (Par I believe) was almost immediately at our table, acknowledging & apologizing for the delay. I quickly received a replacement and the staff went as far as providing a few additional items and comping the steak. The replacement cut was perfect, cocktails are second to none, and the hash brown remains undefeated. Service was flawless as always - from our server Ashley to the manager P

Complimentary biscuits were the highlight of the night! So good, would come back just for them. We also enjoyed our loaded hash browns, delmonico steak and brussel sprouts. We didn't like our mushroom steak sauce tho. For dessert we had the baked Alaska, which was a new experience for both of us. Our server, Ricky, was great! Super friendly and gave great recommendations.

I went here for my birthday dinner with my gf. I love the interior. It’s spacious, airy, elegant, yet still cozy. The lighting was great, not too bright, not too dark. The service was excellent, which was expected for a place of this caliber. The cocktails were spectacular. I had the Butcher Old Fashioned and my gf had the blackberry cosmo. We ordered an assortment of plates. I had the surf n’ turf delmonico steak with a lobster tail. It was excellent. My gf had filet mignon, Oscar style, and she loved it. I do want to mention that the stuffed hash browns are worth the hype, get it! Salad and sautéed broccolini were perfect additions. All in all, Butcher and Singer holds its high reputation and delivers excellence on all fronts. Five stars, highly recommend!

A very romantic and ambient dining location. High ceilings, low lighting and warm decor make for a very cozy dining experience. The menu has some great options... I started with a Shrimp Cocktail, followed by a 14oz boneless NY Strip, and finished with Pumpkin Cheesecake. Everything was superb. The wait staff were smartly dressed and super professional. A great fine dining experience. Budget on $100 per person minimum and you can spend way more than that if you are drinking (I wasn't).

Butcher and Singer is a very moody, extravagant, and a pure romantic experience. The servers were very professional, charismatic, polite and knowledgeable in every way. Now let's talk about prices. You get what you paid for, but at a near elite service. The food and drinks were extremely good and savory for the cost. The servers were A1, and the setting is perfect way to wow a special date. Please check this place out when you come to downtown Philadelphia. PS bring some extra cash for the tip.

Everything at Butcher and Singer was exactly as you would have expected it. The food was perfectly cooked and presented. There was nothing exceptional or over the top, but the interior was really nice and exactly what you would've expected of a steakhouse. It was a nice touch - since it was our anniversary, they gave us a candle and "happy anniversary" sign on our dessert which was very nice and thoughtful. We will be returning in the future.

Excellent service from Brian! Excellent quality food, very delicious and fresh. Flavors are on point and the ambiance is of post prohibition era but fancy. The chairs are also super comfortable! Definitely stop by when you visit Philly!

LOVE THE BISCUITS! Came back here 3 times in 7 days. Food was great service was amazing. In total, have gone here more than 20 times in the last 5 year, love this place. very consistent even through the pandemic, they offer outside seating. 2/9/2022 - Came here for my birthday dinner after having the reservation booked for a month. We were seated immediately with a nice view of the restaurant. The chairs were noticeably very comfortable. Biscuit as usual were amazing with the honey butter. More only on request - this is a change from before, as the last time we went there in the summertime we received biscuits without asking. Steak Tartare $19 - Uncooked meat in an acidic sauce, well balanced. Very similar to ceviche. Not sure if I would get again just because it is uncooked, but the taste is really surprisingly great. We had the Steak Porterhouse for two $105 - Came out perfect. Nice outside with the inside being a medium well. Taste was delicious, very well evenly seasoned. Would get again. A wow Dish. Mushroom and onions $12 were phenomenal. The mushroom was very well thoroughly cleaned and cooked, light and very flavorful. This is was a surprise. I would get this again. A wow dish. Truffle Butter $10 - Exactly how it was supposed to taste perfect for steak add on, would get again. Lemonade $4 - Fresh, light, good. Black Cherry Soda $4 - Really good, refreshing. Aqua Panna $7 - Really refreshing one of the best still waters offered at restaurants. Would get this again. King Salmon - $39 - Strange disappointment with this just because of the plate and how different it is than how I usually see it. Every time that I have gotten this I see more on the plate. However, the outside was cooked perfectly and inside as well, the sauce underneath complimented the salmon. Still this was a shock (refer to pics). Unfortunately, I would not get again. Stuffed Hash Brown $17 - Enough for 2 people, very pleasantly surprised with portions and how this is cooked. Outside is crispy and inside is very thoroughly cooked soft and very much a hash brown, which I love. Would get again. A wow dish. Vanilla Ice Cream - $9 - This was one of the best vanilla ice creams I've ever had, the vanilla was very refreshing and had a real depth of flavor. Every bite was delicious. Would definitely get again. We went to 3 very expensive restaurants this week with our bills being $250-$400. This restaurant is still the top 1 on our top 10 restaurant list and has been extremely consistent throughout the years. We have been back several times this year and look forward to coming back soon. Our bill tonight was ~$300.

This restaurant is amazing. The entire ambiance and aesthetic is so beautiful. We made a reservation last minute to come eat here Saturday evening. We accidentally booked it for the 18th instead and they were so accommodating to change it for the 17th and seat us. The entire menu was so delicious it was so hard to choose what to eat! We started off with some cocktails: the optimist & side car. Both had distinct tastes to it, so I recommend reading what’s in each drink before you decide. Then we had crab cakes, which were so delicious I’m still thinking about them! When then ordered the Cesar salad and for our main course we ordered the rack of lamb and porter house for two. Both were so delicious and filling we wanted to keep eating but were getting so full. For the sides, we ordered the stuffed hash browns, creamed spinach & grilled asparagus. I definitely recommend eating here, it is so pretty inside and everything is beyond delicious.

Absolutely everything about our night here was incredible! The steak was dry aged for 40 days and cooked to absolute perfection; the lobster was so succulent I thought I was back home in Florida; my beautiful wife got her favorite French Onion soup which I'm not a fan of and even that was incredible! Oh and you have to get the stuffed hash browns!!! The drinks were great, our waitress was amazing...I wish every dining experience we have goes this well! Three cheers to Butcher and Singer!

The speakeasy vibe was so cool! When we sat at the bar before dinner, out bartender was very knowledgeable of the spirits he worked with and made good conversation. Our waiter was also super nice and gave great recommendations. This was some of the best food I've ever eaten. Highly recommend going here!

First time here. The ambience is amazing. The food was so delicious too. The price point was similar to other nice steakhouses and everything was cooked well. The butcher salad was huge - a meal in itself. My filet mignon was cooked medium rare perfectly and had a good sear to it. The fried shrimp were large, delicious, and very filling. The mashed potatoes looked runny but were actually the perfect consistency with just the right creamy, buttery ratio. Oh gosh, I couldn't get enough of them. We were all so stuffed that we couldn't get dessert. The desserts seemed hearty and I wished they had a light dessert, like a sorbet. They also had a huge wine selection. I loved that I could order a half bottle of wine, it was perfect for my meal.

The tomahawk steak was the best I've ever had; highly recommend trying it. My friends unanimously agreed that the tomahawk surpassed both the porterhouse and New York strip. The service was excellent, and while the appetizers were great, the desserts didn't stand out. Convenient valet parking options are available nearby.

What an amazing surprise!!! We were on our way home at 9pm from out of town and were in the mood for steak, let’s just say this last minute stop made it to the top 2 steak houses in the area!!! The atmosphere was romantic, service was well above average and the steak, lamb chops were made to perfection!!! We were honestly so impressed we vowed to go back!

Originally, I expected there to be four of my party, but two bailed out at the last minute, and the restaurant was gracious enough to seat my lady and me while reassuring us that it wasn't a big deal. I had escargot for the first time, and it was as delicious as our waiter Durk made it out to be. His care, solicitude, and humor enhanced our experience. My lady thinks we ought to ask for him again in the future. I had the 8 oz. Filet Mignon cooked medium-rare. Its flavor and juices reminded me why I should always have it prepared that way. I enjoyed the jazz selection, hearing whom I thought to be Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong amongst the artists. The turtle cheesecake satiated my taste buds and helped to combat the effects of the Bordeaux and Cognac I consumed. I love the decor. It was an excellent evening.

Come to a #steakhouse with me.... Pst ... I don't eat meat with feet! Do not sleep on steakhouses if your #pescatarian #vegetarian and even #vegan Butcher & Singer was fantastic! Another Stephen Starr masterpiece! Sophisticated and dramatic setting in an old national bank. It's beautiful and intimate inside. Here's what I had... 1. Tuna Tartare 2. Butcher Salad (no meat) 3. I am judging you if you don't get the stuffed hash browns! This is an absolute requirement. 4. Green Beans Amandine 5. Macaroni & Cheese

as expected, an EXCEPTIONAL dining experience in downtown Philadelphia. From the front door greeting to our server, I felt warmly welcomed and attended to. The food and drinks were delicious. Our server John was excellent; his poise, patience, and attentiveness to our party of 8 was stellar. My appetizer, drink and meal choices: lemon drop (w/ tequila) 1/2 dozen Oysters, biscuits salmon, mashed potato, creamed spinach, brussels, Mac & cheese I would love to return and explore their drink/food menu more. Several people in our party also enjoyed their crab cake, and Moscow mule. The only “complaint” I may have is that they no longer offer valet parking; it’s a bummer, but there is (limited) street parking and local garage parking that’s walkable distance. Bravo, B&S! 💚

My recent visit to Butcher & Singer in Philadelphia was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we sat down and were presented with the complimentary biscuits, I knew we were in for a treat. These biscuits were out of this world, complemented perfectly with honey vanilla butter that just melted in your mouth. The drinks were equally exceptional, with my Moscow mule being the epitome of perfection. But the highlights didn't stop there. When it came to the main course, I opted for the lobster tail, and it was truly amazing. As someone from Maryland with high standards for seafood, I can confidently say it exceeded my expectations. My colleagues ordered steak, and it was cooked to perfection. What truly stood out were the sides. The mac 'n' cheese was a creamy, indulgent delight. The mashed potatoes were velvety and flavorful, and the broccolini, a perfectly balanced and crisp addition to the meal. Butcher & Singer's cool 40s vibe transported us to another time, creating a unique and enjoyable atmosphere. Our waiter added to the experience with their fun and attentive service, making us feel welcome from the moment we entered until we left. If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in Philadelphia, Butcher & Singer is the place to be. It's a delightful blend of great food, fantastic drinks, and a wonderful atmosphere, all topped off with excellent service.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, and this place was even more than what I expected. The service was EXCELLENT. I’m most definitely going to be back.

This should be the gold standard for premium steak houses. Their complementary biscuits were AMAZING and the honey butter was so good. I could have gone there just for that and left happy. The steak was great but the sauces that pair with it took the meal to a whole new level! The turtle cheesecake was rich, creamy, and delicious!

Walking in you feel fancy and the staff treats you well. Friendly, informative, and very generous. Gave their recommendations and I trust them. Crab cakes are always great and these in particular were just right amount of seasoning and crunch. The sauce was delicious microgreens were a nice touch. The biscuits are SO good i wish i had their recipe. Flakey, salty, sweet. Wish i could just buy the biscuits to go. The steak is where things went a little south. Now it may be my fault. I originally ordered a medium rare steak but my waiter informed me that for the tomahawk in particular, most people enjoy it cooked medium since it’s a thick cut. I did ask them to make it medium but it came out medium rare. I didn’t want to send it back and ate through it. Almost felt raw and a bit harrowing to bite into since not enough fat got cooked out. But that may have been my fault entirely. I would go back to try again, now that I have a bit more knowledgeable from my mistakes. Hopefully my next experience will be 100% fantastic.

My husband and I went here for our one year anniversary. We've never been here before. Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere was top notch. Our wedding was old Hollywood (Great Gatsby) so this was perfect. We felt like we stepped back in time. We had a booth which we loved. It was roomy. The table had more than enough space for everything that we ordered. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place to go if you're celebrating something special.

This is probably the best steak I've ever had! A must go-to restaurant in Philly. Also, I don't know what they do to those mashed potatoes, but they were heavenly. For dessert, you must try the baked Alaska. They have perfected it here!

I want to give 5 stars because this is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to and it is where I come for special celebrations. Imagine it as 4.9* Since they are near perfection, I didn't give a 5 stars because there are a few things that stop it from being the perfect dining experience FOR ME. For most it is from beginning to end the most amazing dining experience. Food is above and beyond, never had a bad or even mediocre dish. Because they set the bar so high across the menu, I think their desserts could be slightly better to match the exceptionality of their menu. I've had most of the desserts and some dessert specials. Buddakan(another Starr restaurant, has superior desserts in my humble opinion). The only think I could attempt to nit pick is the pagoda type structure towards the kitchen. It seems to not go with the rest of the room. I'm no interior designer. The rest of the room is so meticulous decorated with no faults, from spotlights on your table to my favorite dog painting. Service is always phenomenal, adding to the experience with out becoming it. 4.9*

Oh my goodness! I asked a friend for the absolute BEST steakhouse in Philadelphia, and she recommended Butcher and Singer. Hands down tied with one place in Manhattan for the BEST RESTAURANT I have ever been to. Atmosphere very beautiful, staff fantastic, food phenomenal! Our server, Leah, was so great…she knew exactly which wine to have me taste, and she gave the best information I needed to select the perfect dinner. Food was brought out so perfectly timed. Everything about this restaurant was worth every dime and then some. We will most DEFINITELY be back!

I have finally been able to eat here. This was an entire experience. The food was amazing. All the servers were fabulous and quick. The one server Mike picked out the best wine I've ever had. This is probably a once of year splurge, but it is so worth it.

What an outstanding dinning experience this turned out to be! The atmosphere was cozy and elegant. Our server Brandy truly went above and beyond, as she was friendly, professional, and so attentive! The food was absolutely spectacular and delicious! We shared the wedge salad, the lobster appetizer, and the onion soup. All three were fabulous! We then shared the Porterhouse which was incredible! It wasn't cheap, but it definitely was worth it!

Everything was amazing! Service was incredible - food was delicious - drinks were spot on - 5 star service and experience. Would recommend the butcher salad and roast chicken - so good - the steak was amazing as well, but raving still about the salad and chicken. Treat yourself and head here for a night out!

One of the many excellent steakhouses in Philadelphia! Impeccable wine selection, excellent drinks, the steak (and cuts) were delicious, the stuffed hash browns side was so yummy, and our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable regarding any questions about wine or entrees. I recommend for a special occasion or just a beautiful date night dinner (what we did)!

I cannot express enough the phenomenal experience I had at Butcher & Singer. I came here visiting from out of town for my anniversary. Immediately, we were greeted with respect & attentiveness, from the host the waiter. Our waiter was Bryan. Bryan was meticulous, extremely knowledgeable of the menu, & professional. He did not miss a beat! He had the best suggestions and really took his time to ensure our personalized & well taken care of evening. The porterhouse for 2 was a greatly paired with the stuffed hash browns & asparagus. The meat was perfectly marbleized & seasoned . The food & service was exceptional. I look forward to coming again.
