This place rocks...truly a gem. There is plenty of parking including room for RVs or buses. You check in at the gift shop counter. You can come back to the shop after the tour if you wish to purchase a gift or keepsake . The entire staff is knowledgeable and available to answer any questions you may have. The home itself is stunningly built and holds history that is shared in a display. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and well cared for. Due to the historical factor, accessibility may be an issue. They do provide information on their website for those with mobility aides, sensory variations, or other challenges. There is a variety of rocks, minerals, and fossils on display. They have "Museum Minutes" scheduled throughout the day that offer fun facts and history. The rainbow room features an incredible glow-in-the-dark exhibit. There is an education area for those that are studying or interested in geology or Earth Science. There is a cool fossil digging area for children and a rock pit for each vistor to select one free rock. The museum is perfect for all ages and makes a fantastic field trip, solo visit, or quiet day date.

Beautiful mid century house with all the charm turned into a museum with Rocks, Minerals, Fossils, gem stones and Petrified Wood. Super kid friendly and even encouraged to touch and climb on things unless there is a sign saying not to. Admission included a rock from the rock pile. There are walking paths on the grounds and we saw 3 elk, it is next to a natural area. Regular admission is $12 and worth it. There is a discount for people who have SNAP, only $3. Online reservation was suggested, we made one, it was not crowded and covid safety was on point

I ABSOLUTELY Loved it!!! If you enjoy rocks and crystals and petrified wood, you must go. I am little obsessed with my crystals and wish I had made time to go sooner... All of the specimens here were amazing. The info that goes along with them..fascinating. At first I felt a little guilty about going alone, but nobody I know has my deep fascination and I know it would have been frustrating had I needed to rush because of bored friends/family. If you have youngsters that enjoy rocks, take them. It is very family friendly with special things to do to keep them interested and learning. The grounds are beautiful. Take a picnic on a lovely spring day!!! I left knowing so much more than I did before and I got to see the biggest thunder egg ever!!! The gift shop was stocked with specimens, games, jewelry and other cool things that you may be able to order online, but why when you can get them right there!

This place is cool!!! I’ve lived in the area for nearly two decades and I’ve driven past this place on the Highway countless times. I finally stopped by and it was great!!! So many cool rocks and fossils to check out. We happened to pick the one day to come when they were dealing with active flooding in their basement galleries so we didn’t get to see the basement displays which I hear are incredible. Even without having access to the basement, the main floors in both buildings had so much to offer! On nicer days, outside has a lot to offer too! Like dig pits and rock piles. If you’re considering going, go for it! I will absolutely be returning soon.

I was absolutely in my element today. As a rock enthusiast and general crystal gazer, I recommend giving yourself 1.5hrs to check out these two building and multi-level exhibits. This house itself is its own exhibit; it's beautiful! It's a beautiful and clean space and it's very well kept. It was an honor. I love the gift shop. ✨

I was surprised to see the countless rock and mineral specimens in well lit displays. We had grandchildren with us and they were entertained with a scavenger hunt game and the several interactive displays allowing them to experience rocks with their hands. The home structure was a delightful surprise to see the construction and craftsmanship of the former dwelling. I look forward to returning soon.

What a neat place. We spent maybe 2 hours there. So many neat things to see. Who knew about so many unusual rocks and minerals in Oregon. The petrified wood was beautiful. I recommend visiting.

B E A U T I F U L ! 💎🪨🪵 Lots of amazing gems, minerals, TONS of history/educational info next to the rocks, one room had lots of folders with countless pages all about gemstones, HUGE petrified wood and lots of them! Loved the gemstones that were turned into high quality artwork as well.

We visited while my uncle who is a geologist was in town. This is a don't judge a book by it's cover place. The museum is located in a super cool and expansive family home which was fun to explore. The collection of rocks and minerals was amazing. My 11 year old had a ball doing the searches they offered and my uncle stated Rice has some better specimens on display than the Smithsonian. I'm a novice rock hound and equally enjoyed the experience. It is a place we will go back to.

I've seen this place so many times on our trips to Hillsboro and never stopped to see it. My son is 4 and he enjoyed their "I-Spy" scavenger hunt. Beautiful property and helpful staff!

Amazing specimens, very cool. Plan to bring my kids back to check it out, they'll love it. The gift shop has so many tempting goodies and the rock pit you can select one rock from was a lot of fun.

I’ve driven past the Rice Museum, just off Hwy 26, time after time on my west and told myself, “one of these days I’m going to stop in.” Well I finally made my wish come true. My only regret was not arriving to the museum a little earlier in the day. I got there about 3pm and they close at 4pm, and I felt rushed. After paying admission, $12.00 and getting a quick rundown of how to navigate the grounds I was off. In addition to the inside attractions there is also a rock garden with picnic tables and play area for kids and a walking path. The inside was spectacular. Filled will simple and detailed information about the offerings as well as the families that helped collect polish and display the rare collection of crystals, rocks, minerals, fossils, meteorites, petrified wood and more. Igniting my senses, fostering learning, and sparking my curiosity. I left looking at the world in a new way. The museum seemed to attract all ages and seemed to really excite the kids that were dashing from on exhibit to the next trying to check off their Eye Spy checklist. The adults were oohing and awing as they made their way. The main museum was basically a two story home filled with hundreds of exhibits along with a small description explaining what it was, where it was from. I think there was an elevator. There is also a small library upstairs and a second separate mineral museum that’s one level. I’m happy I finally stopped.

12 dollars for general admission and badda bing badda boom, cool rocks and more! I really liked the fact that I was able to touch/hold certain specimens of things like a dinosaur bone. I can now say that I got to touch a dinosaur lol (there are signs that say that it's okay bc the oils on human hands keep them from rusting). There's also a room dedicated to someone's gem-sculptures and a petrified wood room! I love gemstones/crystals and this place delivered 200%. The guy working at the front-desk of the gift shop was also very customer-service savvy. Really neat little place :^) and whoever thought adding Minecraft blocks to the museum was a good idea is absolutely right- shoutout to whoever you are because I loved that lmfao I have also attached a photo of one of their bathrooms because it is the funkiest little bathroom I have ever seen

An amazing museum of rocks and minerals. Some truly awesome specimens are in this collection. Fossils, meteorites, petrified wood, cut and raw gemstones, and all manner of interesting items dug right out of the ground. Most of the collection is behind glass, but there are a number of items in the collection that encourage you to touch. Child friendly, they have color sheets and activity worksheets to keep the little ones occupied and learning, and even an entire room for kids to learn and play in. The gift shop has many souvenirs and keepsakes available, from bulk obsidian and agate to buy by the pound, to museum quality specimens for your own budding rock collection.

I've lived here my entire life and I never knew about this place! Brought my girlfriend and she absolutely loved it. I'm not much of a rock person myself, but I gotta say, I quite enjoyed myself and there were some real pretty and unique looking mineral rocks and petrified wood on display. For me, the highlight was the rocks that glowed under black light. Super enjoyable experience overall.

The museum has a large collection of beautiful rocks in a lovely old house. You can also buy rocks there and they will give you a rock for free.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed my visit. It's a small place, but chock full of interesting things (including the house itself!). Staff was very friendly too. A true hidden gem if you will ;)

What a fantastic museum to go to whether you're a rock and mineral lover or just simply looking for something fun to go do. Honestly, I thought it was a museum about rice for years. Nope. Rocks and minerals! They have some amazing pieces displayed and the gift shop as well. I'll definitely be back and I highly recommend this stop!

If you like rocks, this is a must-see. Plus, it's a cool place to take kids. I enjoyed the Minecraft display. Showing real-world versions of the ore in the game.

If you are interested in local rocks and minerals, as well as rare collections, this place is worth checking out. There is a beautiful collection of Oregon's state rock, the thunder egg, multiple collections of petrified wood, and a beautiful mineral and gem collection. Plus, all get to peruse the "collect your own rock" area to take home your own precious stone. I found a moss agate, for instance.

This is honestly one of the best museums in the Portland area! They have dinosaur fossils, unique and bizarre mineral formations, a whole room of rocks that glow under black light, a 200 pound ruby and a huge collection of stunningly beautiful petrified wood, just to name a few examples. The main building was the home of the original collectors, and it feels like a cozy house your Grandmother might have lived in. Kids can pick through the rock pile outside and find real treasure they can take home for free! Even if "rocks" aren't your thing, something in this incredible little museum will blow you away.

It is great. They have senior rates. Great customer service. .There are stairs in the 2nd floor for more beautiful sites. They do have a bathroom. The house belonged to the Rice family. This place for rock hounds and rock lovers.

Absolutely amazing! I honestly expected a little rock shop calling itself a museum, but this place is large and educational and filled with all different sorts of rocks and Minerals. I loved it so much I became a member immediately after my first visit.

Great collection of rocks-gems-fossils-meteorites. Staff was extremely helpful. Only regret was that elevator was still broken, so being in a wheelchair, I was unable to see the downstairs gallery. We would definitely return.

We used our local library's adventure pass to bring our family here and had a great time! Beautiful, family friendly, with a nice gift shop.

A huge plethora of wonderfully beautiful rocks. There are rocks and gems of all different shapes and sizes and colors. The fluoroscent rock room is a real treat though make sure you enter the room when the room lights are on for the best progression of light stages.

Words, and pictures, cannot capture how amazing of a collection, and presentation, this museum has. I went out this morning with my kids, dslr camera and tripod and found the museum happy and able to accommodate all. I was able to get great, long exposure, shots of the exhibits and the kids had the education room to draw and play in, and the fossil bed to dig and play with the other kids. Absolute "gem" of a place (indulgent dad joke), can't recommend enough.

If you have any interest in rocks or minerals, you really need to try and stop here. The venue is a little funky (a converted ranch-style home straight out of the 60s-70s), but their collection is extensive! Especially the petrified wood! Our 9-year-old son is a bit of a rock hound and he loved it, as did we. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable should you have any questions.

If you like rocks.... Gorgeous setting and interesting collection. Pretty to wander thru, great gift shop, a lot of picnic tables outside for eating lunch or for a birthday celebration.

No amount of 5 star reviews can do this museum justice. This is one of the most interesting and complete rock and mineral museums I've ever been to. Not only was the museum spectacular, but there was a class going on and a special vendor! The grounds are the cherry on top!! Please do yourself a favor and GO NOW!
