An awesome trail with great view. About 3.7 miles. We usually go counterclockwise, starting up lightly. The clockwise version starts very steeply. The gates remain open to enter until 6:30pm (from March to ~Oct) and you must exit by ~7pm. We usually hike the whole loop (from the entrance door) in about 55-60 minutes.

Beautiful, clean, and fully paved loop trail, with great views of Bay Area and the Stanford Campus in particular. Full loop is about 3.75 mile easy/moderate hike, taking about 90 minutes at a very leisurely pace. Pets are allowed only if they are support/service animals, something to keep in mind. Parking is available on Stanford Ave just before the turn to Junipero Serra.

One of the best spots to hike, walk or jog. The view especially sunrise is just amazing. Highly recommend this spot.

Great place for a nice hike and workout. There is some elevation just enuf to get your heart rate up but not strenuous. It's a good 3.5 mile loop with great views. It's an all asphalt path so makes an easy hike/run and you can bring strollers for kids. But no biking or pets allowed. Most of the loop had no shade and no water so plan accordingly. I went on a winter morning it was still nice but foggy though if imagine in spring this would be gorgeous. Stanford gate is the popular place to enter but parking can get tight on weekends.

Our hiking group started at the trailhead on Alpine Road. It was about a 5.5 mile hike, we went clockwise around the loop. Parking was difficult on Alpine Road. There aren't a lot of parking spaces and the trail was particularly crowded after all the heavy rains lately. The hike is great after rains as it is paved, just avoiding hiking in the mud. That said, the hike had some magnificent views - to SF, SJ, and the East Bay. We saw wild turkeys and a number of raptors. The wildflowers weren't out quite yet but I would expect to see more in the next few weeks.

Paved hiking trails with beautiful views over the hills of Palo Alto. It's one-way trial now due Covid-19.

Beautiful evening walk surrounded by the bay but peaceful enough to bring you close to nature. Loved all the birds and wild turkeys that joined us on our walk.

Walking the trail I often think: why don't I come here every day? The views are unparalleled in the Bay Area. In a clear day I can see all the way from the Coyote Valley in south San Jose to beyond Mt Tam in Marin. The whole Bay in front of me.

The helpful security man on guard duty at the entrance gave a cheerful account of the trail- from the fork if u go right it is a bit long but those who want cordiovascular exercise prefer the left turn- whetted our appetite. All along people were walking, jogging; the scenario changed for every 10 minutes; deers appeared at intervals; squirrels were busy with Burroughing and breakfast. Calm and quiet but for the occasional chatter of group/ family ; the panoramic view of the bay, the greenery of Stanford university and the rolling hills of the west coast have all made this a memorable n unforgettable exhilarating experience.

A good hike. Nothing to complain about! Just a note: prepare to walk up some hills. If you bring a stroller, get ready to push!

One of the most beautiful hikes. The day I went had sporadic rain and it had been raining for 2 weeks. So the whole place was emerald green and really beautiful. It's not strenuous. You can finish it at a leisurely pace in 1.5 hrs. There are no restrooms.

This is a magical place. Beautiful views of MTV, Palo Alto, Stanford and even downtown San Francisco on a clear day. The trees here are spectacular. There's so much nature...eagles, deer, bluebirds, squirrels, and lots more. The flora and fauna is also very special and varies so much throughout the year. The walk is a good workout...some jog it!! My ritual is to be here for sunrise as the gate opens.

Great spot for a quick hike with cool views. There is not a lot of shade, so bring water and sunscreen. Parking can become tricky when it's busy. If you go at quieter times there's a good chance of spotting some wildlife.

Moderate hills close to 4 miles round trip.

  • 5/5 Albert W. 2 years ago on Google
Nice trails that are clean and easy for the feet, depending on how long you choose to walk. Few trees along the trail so you want sun protection when it’s sunny, as in most of the days. There are several gates to get in and out of the trails. Stanford Gate and Alpine Gate seem to be most popular. There are parking near the gates but they become full quickly on weekends.

This is the happening place for walking, jogging, running and strolling. If the parking is full in the front, then use the back entrance - though it adds almost 2 miles to the walk, and one of those miles is going uphill! So you better be in good physical shape 😅

It is a must go, If you have more time when you visit Stamford area. A nice 5 km running trail, no bike no dog. But to get the trail. It's about one Mile and more uphill road to "climb". So, be energetic. Be prepared and be there. ✌️✌️

  • 4/5 Bruce L. 1 year ago on Google
Great view. Easy to moderate trails. One star deduction for mostly unshaded trails.

An awesome trail with great scenery and animals (depending on the season in which you visit). The trail is well paved and the trail has a fair steepness.

  • 5/5 Joann K. 1 year ago on Google
About 3.5 miles of trail. Nice at sunset saw plenty of deer and even a red-faced hawk. Nice to get away if you're close by but you can still hear the freeway. Also a lot of people walk here while they're having conversations and phone calls. Also lots of people with strollers around 5p. I can see this trail will be amazing for running.

3.6 mile trail I tried to run it but I jogged to the trail head from my car and was so out of breath so I just powerwalked it and it was kinda rainy so like little rivers everywhere but this is the best trail in the world

If you are used to going on long walks and hikes you'll love this place. It's paved nicely so you're not going to twist an ankle on a twig you didn't see. It is over 5 miles which is at least 15,000 steps so bring water with you and snacks to keep you going.

  • 5/5 Nick P. 1 year ago on Google
Great walking trail. About 3.6 miles all the way around. Wonderful green views of the mountains. Can even see SF from the trail. Also a great place for plane spotting as they fly overhead. Lots of wildlife to be seen as well. Coyotes, squirrels, hawks, and even turkeys. Car parking is tough but plenty of bike parking.

Chill hike on Stanford’s campus. Took us about 1.5 hrs, hilly start but great workout. Path was paved so made it an easy hike, weather aaa great.

While it may not be the most remote or secluded trail, the rolling hills and lush grass in spring would make anyone a fan. Parking at the main entrance can be difficult so arrive early or be prepared to walk a good distance.

  • 5/5 Alexander M. 1 year ago on Google
Go early in the morning and park by the back entrance. Opens at 6am, parking lot is full at 7.30am. The dish looks amazing with the green hills now ... the amazing variation of different birds singing in the morning is beautiful.

I went for a lovely 6k run/hike, which included a bit of elevation. This wasn't my first time here, but it was just as nice as ever. During the tour, we spotted a snake, a desert tarantula, and some deer. It's best to keep on the paved street and an eye out for these creatures, but we didn't have any problems. The weekends tend to be very crowded, weekdays less. The sunset provided excellent lighting and the views were magnificent.

HOT TAKE (literally bc there’s no shade): I find it to be possibly the most over-hyped hot spots when it comes to stretching your legs The areas is loaded with way more diverse options. To me it feels too sterile and manicured. I guess the fact that it’s paved must be a perk (or a necessity) for some, but I much prefer a more rugged atmosphere.

I've been walking The Dish for decades, before paved trails and entry gates, and it's still my favorite go-to for outdoor excercise. The views of the bay area are well worth the first hill to the top. There are snakes and other wildlife so stay on the path!

Excellent place for a hike. Path is paved so it easy to run on or push a stroller or walk. The main loop is about 3 miles. There is appreciable elevation change so you can get a little but of a workout here. There are a few places to park with trails leading to the loop however parking can still be a challenge on weekends.

Really solid, easy hike. Great weather on the day I went and you could see for miles at the crest of the hill. Well maintained path and friendly people along the way. I would definitely recommend bringing a water bottle as there was only one place I found that you could refill water or use a fountain. Overall, can't wait to come back again!

It was good hiking experience. Got a chance to take a close look at the dish. I was little bit disappointed to find that a number of places were not allowed for public to see. There were a lot of boards that said Authorized Access only. But I still feel it was a good place to visit. Moreover we had the chance to get a good view of number of places in not only Palo Alto but also Bay Area itself and also other nice places in the neighbourhood.

This is a beautiful retreat in the middle of Palo Alto. At the highest point, you can see beautiful panoramas of the whole bay. The path is always clean and well taken care of. The only drawback is how impossible it is to find any parking. Even in the middle of the week it can be difficult to park anywhere near the dish, and on the weekend its better to just not even try. But if you can navigate the parking, then this is a great place for walker, runners, hikers or anyone looking for some fresh air.
