I am Korean. I was really impressed with this place that I happened to find. A small neighborhood bookstore serves as a hub for many people. I was only Asian and young and traveler. So it was unfamiliar, but there is warmth, the smell of books and music are in harmony. I plan to stay for about two more months, and it will become the standard of this place.

I am a seasoned bookstore tourist. I have never had such a transcendental hour at a bookstore. They have an expertly balanced selection of old friends and new discoveries all organized in a perfect orientation for extended browsing while live music enhances the atmosphere. Live music! Shelves not overcrowded but still pleasantly abundant, with mysterious extra piles in little corners. Brilliant and effective - will transport you entirely.

The book selection here is wonderful as is the warmth of the owner. Eric brings a unique personality to the space that is apparent in both the selection of books and the regular jazz performances at the venue. Here you can stumble upon the likes of Paul Combs's quartet performing Tadd Dameron's music and sharing anecdotes of how it influenced the careers of Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane. This is a one-of-a-kind store with an unmatched experience.

Great neighborhood book store in Glen Park on Chenery. They have used and new books in the back and newer arrivals up front. Eric, the owner is always friendly and happy to help. If you can't find a title you want, he is happy to place an order for you. They also offer live jazz a few evenings every month.

Always love coming here to browse and buy the latest books. A great selection of new and used books in all manner of topics to choose from and if they don't have it, they will order it for you. Jazz music plays as you browse and they have live events often: an intimate venue to say the least. Finally but importantly, Eric and his staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It's always a pleasure coming here to help support this terrific local business.

Wonderful independent book store, great selection, and friendly service. They do lots of live music on the wkd. Check their website or their email newsletter for the line-up.

Is it unfair to rate a bookstore that I've only visited after hours? Not if it's to review world-class jazz at said bookstore! My wife & I saw the Joe McKinley quartet last week and it was a fantastic experience. As a band, you have to be tight if you're going to play in a bookstore because the acoustics are so intimate. No reverb to cover up mistakes, and these guys were top-notch. They played some standards and some originals, and it was all great stuff.

A wonderful local bookstore that hosts live music after hours. Entry fee is by donation. (BYOB). May want to call ahead to get your name on the list for entry, just in case as it's limited seating. A very unique experience, great for a date night ☺️

A place that sells books and vinyls? Seems more like a time machine to me. Be definitely coming often to Bird & Beckett.

Best books & best live jazz. A San Francisco staple. The whole operation is run by Eric. One of the nicest human beings you will ever encounter.

A treasure hidden in fog. We come here for kids books and the bookstore feel.

Great little independent bookstore with live music on the weekends - jazz and blues duos, trios, and quartets. A very intimate setting, only a couple of dozen seats. A neighborhood spot worth supporting.

Awesome homey bookstore! I stumbled on this place when I attended their Saturday jazz nights and it’s definitely worth showing up for. Just bring $20 cash for the door. They promote local artists and it really brings a different atmosphere when the jazz is surrounded by bookshelves. :) The owner is super personable and helped me purchase a book I flipped through during intermission. Come and support your local bookstore!

Great little independent bookstore. Fun to browse, good selection of books, and they were nice enough to offer to order a book for me when they didn't have it in store.

I went to bird & Beckett for a Sunday afternoon jazz session. I heard that they offer young musicians the opportunity to play, so that they can get experience & learn from older musicians. Small spot, it's a book store. You will enjoy this!

I called looking a newly released book. Bird & Beckett didn’t have it, but recommended other Indie bookstores. I found it at Folio. Thank you for helping me find it at a small local business even though it wasn’t your place! I’ll be sure to be back and support Bird & Beckett when in town in the future.

Terrific selection, helpful owner and staff, great overall vibe. Even better than the book selection, they present top-notch local jazz performers several nights a week. I'd give this 6 stars if it was allowed - check this place out!
