This is my local hiking trail. It’s has several different length options but all are family friendly and easy terrain. Yellow is the shortest and most popular trail, its worth the short walk with gorgeous views and large pieces of drift wood on the beachside. Red is the longest and has a nice picnic bench tucked away from the more popular trails. Blue has an amazing marsh area where we have seen hawks, otters, and even an alligator. Watch out for ticks!

Beautiful place, short on time so only did the one trail (yellow line) straight out to the river. There are several others, lots of shade and well cleared, marked. The welcome / educational center is terrific friendly & helpful staff with dozens of informative and some are hands on exhibits. Great place for children young or older. Next time planning to bike the entire place. UPDATE: returned with my mountain bike, and pedaled around the entire reserve. All the trails are well marked and cleared, tho did have to pedal through a few puddles and wet spots. Yes it was fun! Very scenic along the waterways, and several great spots to sit down and snack.

BEAUTIFUL Park ~ I have been here twice this year. Once walking and this time by bike. Highly recommend taking a bike - Mountain bike or wide tire comfort works very well. We have Specialized Rolls which are perfect for this trail. A must see place for sure. The tree covered canopy makes for a great shady ride or walk. The speed of the bikes keeps the mosquitos off you. I will be back multiple times here. So far my favorite place in the area

This is the most beautiful place to mountain bike in the area! Many distinct and diverse micro-environments due to the coastal location and immediate proximity to the intercoastal waterway. Lots wildlife and the occasional alligator can be seen and enjoyed. Lots of yellow flies and ticks in warmer months.

Gorgeous wilderness area only 50 minutes from Jacksonville City proper. There is something for everyone here. Trails, beach, fishing spots, and wilderness area. I had the opportunity to see so many unique wildlife in such a short period of time. I will definitely be back.

Very pleasant Florida hiking trails. Plenty of wildlife in the summer if you brave the heat and walk the longest loop. Saw deer, armadillo, pigmy rattlesnake, and a deceased horseshoe crab.

Lots of great trails to hike or ride your bike on. Keep an eye out for wildlife, such as gators, Bald eagles, hawks, raccoons, Pileated woodpeckers, hummingbirds, marsh birds, along with many more. Bring along water and a camera! I would definitely take a bike.

Will definitely be back. Nice walkable trails. Looks like a great place to bring the bikes too. Areas can get flooded during rain. Met a armadillo we named Eddie on our hike.

Absolutely glorious location for hiking. The trails are very well marked and there are a lot of benches scattered about. I don't know why, but I didn't expect there would be so many trees. For some reason I thought it was all in the open and was absolutely delighted by all the live oaks. $3 for parking, which is reasonable. There was no one at the entrance booth, so parking is on the honor system with a little box and envelopes, so bring exact change. They got an extra $2 out of me since I only had a $5 bill, but it's for a good cause. I believe you can buy an annual pass if you're a frequent visitor.

This place is beautiful and well worth the three dollar entry every time! Trails are super well maintained and well marked. Restrooms at the beginning in the trail pavilion. Several different color coded trails of varying lengths . You can combine them to be shorter or longer as well. All are family friendly and easy terrain. Just watch for a couple of tree roots here and there. Plenty of benches to sit and take a rest. Every single trail is lovely, but if you want to see the most wildlife I highly recommend the purple/red trail combo. Saw 5 armadillos, 3 deer, 1 turtle, and heard even more rustling in the bushes. Its much longer than the others though. Only issue is the bugs since its very marshy. I always be sure to wear spray even if it’s not that hot. Don’t recommend in the summer, worst time of the year to visit when it’s hot + humid all the bugs on the planet are out in this area. Otherwise very highly recommend checking out this place. Can’t wait to visit again!

We walked about 6 miles in the canapy of beautiful oak trees. Saw a few armadillos, and heard some beautiful birds but didn't see them. At the end of the trail we walked, was a gorgeous view of the River. You cannot be angry or sad in such beauty!! Lovely day!!

Beautifull, place, great for a short walk, or 2 those of us up for a bit more of a hike to the beach , it is most definitely worth it. I Don't recommend bringing your dogs or yourself without tick spray. Believe it or not, I got a tick bite, & it was a Deer tick, people traveling from up North, bring them down on their dogs, unknowingly, they hatch here. & quite alot of cases of lymes disease in Florida or you can get immune disorders such as Iga, Ige, & Igh ...so if you get bitten & you get it out & no signs of a red ring rash/circle around the area. Get to a doctor right away. You needs loads of antibiotics ty pics, & blood tests. If u get lymes disease & it's not treated, it can be fatal eventually. Not trying to panicked you just bathe afterwards & have someone check your scalp & base of your neck . Then check all areas with lymph nodes; such as: underarms, inner thighs, etc. Have fun.

This is a wonderful place to go for a hike and experience nature. The paths are very easy and give you various perspectives on the nature that is around. There are opportunities to see all sorts of wildlife, from butterflies, hermit crabs, armadillos to alligators. If you are even mildly into photography, this is a great place to go and capture nature . Bring a lunch and you can picnic in one of the pavilions or near the river. Bring your fishing pole and you can fish riverside or lake side. Overall, it is well worth the $3 a car and is a good family outing if you want an easy hike or just a day out and about in nature

We absolutely LOVE this strip of beaches! Large enough that you can find your "own" spot of beach. Good shells and you can even find shark's teeth! Sand is not white and is coarse. Cost is $3 per vehicle (cash only) to park.

We rented an Airbnb across the River from the preserve. We would kayak over every morning and then choose a different trail to hike the first day we saw a bag of garbage right on the beach right near the sign “leave no trace” we came the next day with garbage bags and it was already cleaned up. The trails were perfectly marked, what a gift, this preserve is!

This is a great park with a lot of trails. The entrance has boat ramps and lots of people were fishing along the shore. It would be a great place to kayak but I would not go swimming in this area (the beach is next door anyway. The trails are great for running or biking and apparently they do have hunting (though I have no details concerning hunting). I went there specifically to check out the trails. The savannah trail was flooded in spots so I was not able to explore it all but for the most part the scenery and expanse was just what my soul needed.

Our favorite quick getaway! We live in the historic downtown area, and right now its very crowded with the Nights of Lights. Just a few miles away at Guana, we feel like we are in a different world! Lovely shaded walking paths with lots of wildlife for those with a sharp eye. Its bike friendly and pet friendly (6ft leash.) Its $3 for admission, bring exact change. Drive past the fishing areas and boat launch. The walking paths are at the very end of the driving area. Shaded picnic area, restrooms and a spigot for water for your dog. Step into another world of wild Live Oaks and Spanish Moss.

Great place! Ran here today, on the trails, and they were very nice. They are pretty well marked and kept, and there are many options to choose from. Other than the paved sensory loop, the other trails are dirt or gravel, including a boardwalk. Would definitely recommend to any runners looking for some soft surface running, also great for walking and biking!

It was really difficult to find good information on the trails here so I wanted to share my experience (with tips from the woman at the visitor center) because this was one of my favorite biking experiences in Florida. Use the entrance by the visitors center and park for $3 near the dam. Take the trail into the reserve and turn right on Hammock Road. This will bring you to the wildlife refuge part of the reserve. There is a dirt road that is hard packed and only used by cars on special occasions. Stick to the dirt road and be sure and check out both towers. Unfortunately the signs are terrible and you can’t tell from maps what the surface of the trail is. Most of the loop trails include a section of grass and we ran into mud, so if you are looking to stay dry stick to the road. Also remember to follow the signs for the dam entrance to return to your car. This is a beautiful place to bike with good wildlife viewing opportunities. The trails are largely shaded. I seem to recall it being less shady as we got closer to the north entrance. Highly recommended! Also don’t miss the view from the north beach walkover a few miles up A1A on the ocean side of the road.

I visited this during the pandemic. Very prehistoric sense for me. Calm, quiet. I thought dinosaurs could come out of the bushes. Take me back to that place please!!!

Great place to hike and soak up the natural beauty! Walked the yellow trail (parts were shaded) and carried our picnic lunch with us - nice tables along the river for lunch at the half way point. Bathrooms at the trailhead and drinking water too. Saw people fishing, birding, kayaking - and saw squirrels, armadillo, great egret and wood storks!

It can get a bit crowded but more than worth a stop to see the views Views include. Bird watching of all types of shore birds and osprey grabbing fish from the lake right in front of you eyes Fishing. A great place to kayak but watch the tide on the lake on the left side of the spillway. If you are out there you can get stuck in the marsh starting about 3 hours before dead low tide. On the right side this is not a problem Plenty of fishing and a great place to get large blue crabs (yum) Swimming ( with something on your feet recommended) Closed after dusk automatically. You can get out after dusk but not in Bring live bait (shrimp recommend) if you fish. Fish right off the spillway Remember fishing license is needed in Florida for people over 14 up to age 65 Picnic tables available Bathrooms here also

Dec. 2020: pleasant stop along the A1A. Nice short walk, clean restrooms at the end of Guana River Road. No staff on duty at the entrance shack when we visited.

One of Ponte Vedra/Jacksonvlle's best kept secrets. If you're willing to drive a little further and pay the couple dollars to park you get a beach almost completely to yourself even in the summertime! The sand is a bit different here and has something like a South Florida feel. There's also a nice lookout and a nearby boat ramp for fishing
