We love Vimalas for their fresh food, eclectic drinks and no fuss hospitality! Vimalas never disappoints! And best of all, the menu is surprising and experimental and keeps changing based on seasonal produce. The taste and quality of the food is guaranteed.

I don’t have words. I ordered a Dosa thinking it would maybe be the size of a burrito. When I say it was bigger than the TRAY it came on, I’m not exaggerating (see photo). Beyond that, it was so so good. Everything I had was wonderful. This may be my new favorite place in town. I loved every bite. Also the staff were so amazing and my dog was welcomed in the outdoor courtyard. Overall an A+.

Nice ambience (if you choose outdoor). We ordered Thaali, dosa, appams, fried okra, beef, chicken curry, fish curry … we went in the week of Sadhya. So, they had lot of stuffs related to onam sadhya. All the things we ordered were top notch. On top of that, the hospitality was great. Highly recommend if you are looking for a home cooked food.

Stop here to satisfy your appam cravings….. The appam with chicken curry and egg masala was very delicious. On the side we ordered Achappam and Banana fritters which was equally delicious. Kudos to Vimala and her staff for serving such mouth watering Kerala cuisine.

Pretty mediocre experience in my opinion. The food was decently priced but far worse than the other indian restaurants in the area. I ordered the dosa, and it was pretty soggy when it came out. The sambar was okay. The other chutneys were decent as well. Not spicy enough in my opinion. I also ordered the palak paneer, and it was incredibly bland. It was also suprisingly watery. Would not go back but a nice atmosphere when seated outside. Maybe it was just the dishes I tried?

Not your typical Indian restaurant. Food A+, Atmosphere A+, Service A+. I'm definitely coming back. We had Mysore dosa and Chole Bhature, and it was great 👍 👌.

Incredible fresh food. Even more incredible outdoor space. The courtyard that this restaurant serves is one of the most charming places I’ve ever seen. Lovely trees, lovely lighting and interesting architecture. We sat there for hours listening to the jazz band and trying out tons of things on the menu. Paneer, eggplant, and the chai were my personal favorites. Easily one of my favorite places.

I may as well have eaten baby food. My saag paneer was totally bland. It tasted like it was made for a toothless white grandmother on a low sodium diet. The “naan” resembled the texture of tortilla. It was flat and dense and seemed like it wasn’t homemade. The rice was fine, I guess. I generally love Indian food and the other reviews for this place were good. I was so disappointed that I splurged on takeout when I’d have been better off eating a frozen Amy’s Indian meal. I hate leaving a negative review, but I wanted to save you the trouble of trying this restaurant.

This was my first and last time eating at Vimala's Curryblossom Café. I had read several reviews before eating here and I honestly have no idea what everyone is raving about. I've been to a lot of different Indian restaurants and have had some amazing food, but this left me very disappointed. The food was an Americanized version of Indian. This is not an authentic Indian restaurant, so beware if that's what you really want. The curry chicken had an unusual flavor, which as I continued to eat was very unappealing. The tandoori chicken was dry as a bone. It was very heavily covered in seasoning (like caked on) which is not like any tandoori I've had...It was horrible to get through. My waitress was very friendly, but one younger man working there was asked to make a specific dessert on the menu for my party, he walked away huffing that he didn't want to make it and came back with an alternative of rose ice cream... which we settled for and it tasted like rose scented soap. Ultimately, I was left very unhappy, and disappointed I didn't just eat at my usual Indian restaurant.

Stopped in for lunch. They have items I've not seen before. This is home style cooking! Had Kerala beef. Very good. I will be back until I have tried everything!

If you tasted authentic Indian food ( South or North) it’d just an average restaurant. Food is okay. Travelled 3 hours to taste kerala beef fry. And $7 for an ‘Appam’? Not my cup of tea. 🙄

Can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this place. Besides the food being the best Indian I've ever had (including 2 trips to India), the atmosphere and staff/ownership is incredible! If I lived in Chapel Hill I would eat there every week. And the leftovers were amazing too. The goat curry was so, so tasty.

Vimala's catered a meeting for our mathematics education group. There were a variety of dishes to enjoy, and lots of flavor. My favorites were the VERY crunchy okra and the lacto-fermented pickles, full of complex tastes and bright colors from many vegetables. Now I am craving both delicacies as I am writing this! Thank you for that lovely dinner!

By the time we arrived, the fish and beef curries were finished. We had shrimp and lamb curries, and they were pretty good. The mango lassi was yummy.

Their onam sadya takeout meal was delicious and full of flavor. You cannot go wrong with Vimala’s.

Looks can be deceiving. It’s hidden back behind other buildings. Lots of outdoor seating shared with other restaurants. No Indian servers but the owners are Indian. They don’t have “chicken tikka masala” but they have curry chicken which is similar. And it’s delicious. Mix it with the sauce and the rice. The lassi is made fresh but wasn’t quite enjoyable. Overall a good experience and I’d definitely come back. - Picked this place because the other Indian restaurant wasn’t open at 1:30pm for lunch?? -

I visited last week with my parents who are raised in Kerala. My parents had such a great time chatting with Vimala who made it a special visit for them. She offered a couple dishes from the menu without us ordering them just for us to try. She made us feel like home and we loved all the food! We will be going back soon :)

We were looking for some good vegan options near an art pop up we were coming from in Pittsboro and used the Happy Cow app to find this place. So glad that we did because it was phenomenal! The menu is really well labeled with gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options. The service and atmosphere were fantastic, as they have indoor and outdoor seating in a quaint courtyard. The food was delicious and we both loved it! We ordered some desserts to bring home and try because we were so full and really liked all of those as well. The only complaint is that they are so far from us here in Raleigh. But whenever we're out that way again we will definitely be back to try more of their offerings.

This place is phenomenal! The Tandoori chicken meal and the curry is delicious. However, their menu has something for everyone. The owners and staff are really great people. They are very active and supportive of the local community. Thank You!!!!

We had a large party for a graduation and Vimala’s was absolutely delicious and the staff were wonderful towards us and answered our many questions and even helped us out with a vase for flowers. The outside square for dining is lovely and cozy. Great spot!

This was fall of 2022 when we had Vimala’s. Maybe I just visited on a bad day, but the staff was rather rude and the food wasn’t very good. My wife called in the order and I didn’t know if she used my name or hers or our last name and that really frustrated the person who assisted me. Which in turn made me angry. Anyway, we lived in Fremont California and have plenty of good Indian friends that ensured we ate AMAZING food for 5 years. I’m by no means an expert, but I love flavorful ethnic foods. We tried Vimala’s based on a ton of good reviews and we were quite disappointed by the food. The main dishes were so bland that I had to add salt and hot sauce. It was almost like the food was “Americanized”. I rarely if ever salt restaurant prepared food. The naan was oddly stale and the rice was bone dry. We’ve since tried other restaurants in the Chapel Hill area and have had much better food. I’d like to say that I will try here again, but maybe I’ll wait to go with some Indian friends and hopefully we will have a better experience.

Worst restaurant. We ordered a chicken curry meal. Served after delay of 1 hour. Curry hardly had chicken pieces, full of potato only. Quantity of rice served was very less, insufficient for even a child. Horrible experience. Don't recommend this restaurant. Please don't go to this place. It's total waste of money and time.

I have been going to this place for eight years now. This place is a community favorite with a porch where the students and people of Chapel Hill gather to enjoy the warmth of Vimala’s food. Vimala combines her Southern Indian cooking traditions with Southern food and uses fresh, local ingredients. You can’t go wrong with the dosas or, as I have here, the Appam and the side of curry with a refreshing cup of iced Chai (the real deal, not the sugary version with too much cinnamon).

For anyone looking for authentic Indian Food in Chapel Hill, I strongly recommend giving Vimala's a try. The food is fabulous and the service superb. If you are lucky, you might get to see Auntie Vimala who has a wealth of knowledge in authentic Indian style cooking. My favorite here is their Masala Dosa that is rivaled by no one in North Carolina. In fact, even New Jersey doesn't have Dora's as good as the ones you get at Vimala's. I strongly recommend everyone give this place a try. You will not be disappointed. Oh did I mention that they believe in 'farm to table'.

Staff was incredibly friendly, outside dining (where we happened upon an AWESOME jazz quartet) perfectly lovely, [two stars] so it pains me to say that the food was subpar. There was a gristle bone in our beef, the naan bread was the texture of a wheat cracker, our “side salad” that came with dinner was red coleslaw in a tiny condiment container. :( [Three stars off.] I had read the reviews and was looking forward to great Indian food. Disappointed. It was the 6:oo pm dinner rush, but it was not busy, so I’m not sure what happened.

Enjoyed Onam Sadhya (Onam Festival Feast) offered at Vimala’s Curry Blossom. It was a true nostalgic feeling. Every single curry was made in traditional style and every bite took me back to Kerala and childhood memories. Got the opportunity to meet Vimala, who is such kind and beautiful soul. She was so sweet to even offer a free sampler plate to my friend’s daughter who already had lunch and was feeling too full to have a proper lunch at the restaurant. Great place, kind people, great food and nice music. Loved it!
