Nice neighbourhood spot, service is good. The food we ate was desperately calling out for some salt, hopefully this was just an off day but I still want to give four stars. Beer options are nice, mostly German with a couple of domestic options. They are checking vaccine status which is obviously great.

Just came home from Werkstatt. It was my first time trying Austrian food. Everything was delicious and very attentive service. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommend their chicken liver mousse and salmon with leek risotto. We will definitely go back again!

Was a little skeptic at first because German food is not my go to but I'm glad my boyfriend convinced me to try it because it was absolutely delicious. Even the chicken liver mousse which I was scared to try but wow was it amazing. The outdoor seating is super cute and well spaced out and our waitress was lovely as well as the rest of the staff. Will definitely be coming back!

We were in the food coma ;) it was so delicious and we couldn't finish it all because we got the best pretzel ever as appetizer;) We ask for fries for our son instead of all that super delicious mix salad and they bring him the biggest portion ever ;) Stuff were so nice and helpful. We definitely have another fav. restaurant in the neighborhood. Can't believe that we live here almost 10 years and never went to there.Sooooo delicious

Had not very peasant interaction with manager before (I guess he is a manager - guy with beard and flat cap) - not the friendliest person in terms of accommodating customers’ needs. This time I was supposed to come with my family and my daughter’s family (2 adults and 2 children - a toddler and baby in a stroller). Called in the morning, made reservation. Specifically mentioned we have a baby in a stroller and that the stroller is very small and will not take much room. No one said anything about the stroller. My family came in first. We sat down and ordered drinks. But when my daughter came in - they were told strollers not allowed inside. When I tried to argue and said no one warned me, I was accused of “misunderstanding” them. They also said they would offer us a high chair. High chair for 5 months old baby who can’t even sit up yet. Told them we are walking away )he was quite surprised). Too bad we touched those drinks so we had to pay for them. Btw they added 20% service charge that they charge for 6 people or more. Well, they only let 3 people in! I left some tip just because I didn’t have exact change but it was not 20% I want the owner to see this review and know that we walked out and this could’ve easily be $300 for the place. Needless to say we are not coming back, nor my daughter’s family.

Wonderful food, great fun decor, friendly efficient service. A celebration of our arrival here in NYC but also a fusion of memories from trips to Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary. Congrats for surviving the pandemic!

I love this place. Great tap wines, fantastic menu, excellent service. Can get a little salty for me occassionally but that's also the cuisine. Not the cheapest choice around but a great splurge.

It’s a very flavorful type of cuisine. The schnitzel was extremely soft and tender with sides of fresh and marinated vegetable, while the pork goulash was accompanied by pasta which would help absorbing the rich meat sauce. Indoor and outdoor , kids friendly. Highly recommend especially when you are looking for rich and tasty flavors.

When they say the best pretzel in Brooklyn, it’s not just hype. The food is superb, both dining in and getting delivery. The back is great for a larger group and the outdoor seating is limited. My only complaint is the cost per plate, but worth it for a more intimate dinner date. The bar always has a great variety of drink options to pair with the food, and I am always impressed at the high quality of beers and ciders available on tap.

Solid solid solid neighborhood spot. All the food is great, the staff is great, the beers are tall and well priced. Schnitzel plate is my go-to comfort meal at the moment. Cash or American Express only. Would love to see a bit more mask wearing by staff indoors, but they still deserve 5 stars. There is plenty of ventilation, I’ll give them that.

I hadn't been here in a number of years and remember thinking the food was OK. This time around, I tried the roasted beet salad and the cod schnitzel, while my friend got the onion soup and the bratwurst. After this visit, I agree with my initial assessment, the food was OK, with one exception. The onion soup was great. They nailed it and it really hit the spot. I'll be back for some more onion soup and see what other mains might strike my fancy.

I have dined at Werkstatt on two seperate occasions with a family member after a hard day's work of renovating a new living space. The atmosphere is relaxed, but not too much. Miranda is an excellent waitress who not only mirrors that relaxed atmosphere, but adds her personal and personable touch to it. Service like her's is exquisite and I only want to dine here if she can be my server. A plethora of food and drink to select from, keep an eye on those specials, they add a bit of in season/deluxe touch to the main menu. The pretzel is piping hot, fresh, soft, and the accompanying cheese mix and sharp mustard offer a balanced, yet complimentary contrast to the delicious canvas of the pretzel. Schnitzel, spatzle, and pork chops are rich but follow that theme of balanced and complimentary notes in their recipes. Drinks are refreshing and cut through the rich food quite well. The dessert is competent, but not exceptional.

What a GEM! Absolutely amazing and authentic food. Special mention to the Apfel Strudel. I was transported back to Bernkastel Kues where I had my first taste of a real Apfel Strudel. I wish I had a restaurant like that in the Bay Area. While in NYC this was 100% worth a visit and I will definitely return to try out more dishes when I am back.

If an upgrade to your old German/Austrian favorites is what you're seeking, then this is it! The homemade sauerkraut and coleslaw (?) are so on point! I don't love fennel seeds, and the coleslaw was fresh and light and exactly what you need with the rich bratwurst burger. The crisped up potato hash on the side of kielbasa was crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside. I highly recommend the linzer torte if you want a dessert that's not too sweet. P.S. the owner (?) was very attentive and made sure we weren't forgotten in the back of the restaurant.

Amazing food!!! The cheese plate and pretzel were bomb!!! My partner liked the chicken schnitzel as well. Drinks were on point and service was great but most importantly did I mention the cheese plate was incredible? Yes I would definitely be back again. They only accept cash or Amex but not biggie because it’s worth it.

First time here, and I'm completely obsessed! I wanted to try everything but went for the kielbasa and kraut! But not before a KÖSTRITZER SCHWARZBIER, which was phenomenal! A giant pretzel w/ Liptauer cheese, potato latkes, and a Gemischter Salat. The service was spot-on, and the atmosphere kept you intrigued with all the signage and nostalgia. Highly recommended!

The food here is so delicious. The staff is top notch. I’ve driven by this place so many times and always with a desire to visit. My wife and I finally stopped in. Not one thing was disappointing, including the Bloody Mary drinks! We’ll definitely throw this into our mix of regular spots to eats.

Varied selection of beer: German, Austrian, Belgian. The salmon risotto and sausage with cabbage were delicious! Must try the strudel for dessert!

Very much a Viennese “Beisl” ….comfortable , friendly and good food! Certainly recommend the beef Gulasch , Wiener Schnitzel, chicken Paprikas, cheese Spätzle, cucumber salad, Palatschinken for dessert along with nice selection of beers. Prost Mahlzeit!

Very consistent and always get lovely service here. Cannot go wrong with brunch! Dinner is great too but you miss out on the natural sunlight that hits the back room! Unfortunately located in an ugly stretch on Coney Island Ave in Kensington, sitting outdoors would be so much more appealing if it wasn’t surrounded by car washes/auto repair shops and shuttered deli’s. Get the Schnitzel, Green Eggs & Ham, Paprika Chicken, Brussels, and basically everything else!

The staff were helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The food was delicious. We had the pretzel and the calamari with kielbasa for appetizers. The pretzel was soft and delicious on its own, but even better paired with the mustard or cheese that came with it. The calamari and kielbasa went well together and were cooked perfectly. I had the weiner schnitzel, and it was wonderful. It was thin and crispy without being too dry. It came with a nice cranberry sauce that complimented it beautifully. The sides of potatoe salad, tomatoe salad, cabbage, and cucumber salad were all great. To top it all off, they have a good beer selection as well. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely dine there again.

Always a tasty experience! Tap beers are refreshing. Bavarian pretzel soft, fresh, delicious with dipping sides. The soups, french onion and butternut squash are so good! Many main vegetarian dishes to choose from.

Outstanding food, service, and atmosphere! I have been coming here for years and have always left satisfied with my experience. Every dish and drink on the menu is well thought out. Portions are generous and everything is priced reasonably, especially for New York. Although the food is prepared expertly, the restaurant itself is unpretentious. Werkstatt is special insofar as its the type of restaurant that is an excellent option for a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc) and also a great place for a casual drink and a light bite on the way back from work. The food and ambience are perfectly suited for both ends of drinking/dining and everything in between. If you are deciding where to go, look no further.

Werkstatt is a truly special place to have in the neighborhood - a great blend of German fare and thoughtful additions from other cultures. The schnitzel and goulash are both fantastic, and the pretzel truly is *the best*. Put that together with a very respectable and delicious array of beers, and you’ve got a “must-visit.” So grateful for their outdoor seating and reliable service during the hard times of the pandemic.

I have ordered the matzo ball soup to go so many times and every single time the lid isn’t fixed on tightly and it spills everywhere. The couple of times I’ve eaten here, the server was pretty rude as well - food dining in was mediocre and taking out was a bit better. They only take American Express or cash, weird system.

Werkstatt is a local favorite. The food is very good and sometimes it's great. Portion sizes are very generous, I've never left not full. The service and atmosphere are warm and welcoming, even if the place is a little cramped, but hey, it's New York. Drink and food prices are very fair.

Love this place. And I'm not the type of person to love restaurants, so that's saying something. Hands down the best half roasted chicken I've ever had in my life. And I've had a lot of chicken in my life. I also really like their chicken schnitzel. Their mulled wine is so good. Staff is great. The owner is very nice. Very friendly atmosphere.

Had a delicious meal here with my family for my birthday. The space is nice and laid back. We all got appetizers, mains and desserts, some off the regular menu and a few specials as well. Everything was delicious and the service was great. I highly recommend the pretzel, the wiener schnitzel and the apple strudel. They also make some good drinks.

I went to this restaurant Bc of the pretzels, which were very good. But I decided to try one of their dishes and wow, it was delicious. I had the braised beef and it was soooo yummy. Service and cocktail were also amazing. I will def be back.

Always very skeptical with German/Austrian/Swiss cusine here in NY since I am a german buy blood and grew up with the cusine in Europe. I found this restaurant because I seen a friend checked in on Facebook. So we gave it a try for Christmas eve. Our party of 5 ( 2 kids plus 3 adults) where accommodate by great hospitality trough all the staff workinf this night. Decoration is great lots of Austrian Beer advertising ( i mean what else you need lol) and a motorcycle in the wall which my Daughter was fantastic by.. Beer and wine selection great! Food !!FANTASTIC!! You can see and taste that the Chef knows how to cook his home cuisine… Potato pancakes yummy, cucumber salad super delicious just like my mom and grandmother made it… Paprika Chicken and Spätzle super delicious!!! Schnitzel OMG not deep fried in the fryer as 98% of the “german” restaurants make it here… super tender and nicely flavored, Krautsalat again just like home potato salad super tasty… Desser! Linzer Torte to die for… Many thanks und vielen Dank this was a 5 plus Star expierence from the start to end… we will be back 100…!!!

Amazing neighbored find - awesome food and friendly service. The decor and ambience me memories of my visits to Berlin and Bavaria. We had the smoked kielbasa and the Weiner Schnitzel - everything was mouth watering. Huge portions. Highly recommended.

This has been a go to restaurant for us for years now. We have a favorite German restaurant upstate, so we were up to a challenge to see if we could find an equally good one in Brooklyn. This place killed it. From the pretzel to the deserts, I really do love all their options. Bartender was always on point with filling up my seltzer and keeping my wife’s drinks flowing too! Awesome place!
