What heartwarming place, the staff is very kind and welcoming, the grounds are done up and maintained so nice for the animals. The tour and stories about each individual animal was such a personal experience. God Bless these wonderful people for caring for the wild animals, they are true angels. ♥

Five stars is not enough for the love and compassion given to the the animals by the people here. Great educational walkthrough and Diana was the best teacher, learned soo much from her. Keep up the awesome work and I will be back to see them again soon 👍🏼

What a cool find! The volunteers were amazing, super knowledgeable and engaging with our kids. It was a hot morning but the area has plenty of shade and misters. We witnessed many animals being fed and learned a lot. Would recommend!

This was a fantastic tour! We did the full moon guided tour and learned so much about the animals. We saw and heard wolves, bobcats, mountain lions, bears, coyotes, foxes and more. Very well fun facility that takes excellent care of its animals. Great family educational experience.

Highly recommended! Such a wonderful educational fun filled experience. We’ve been in Arizona doing things recommended online and this is by far our favorite! Excellent tour guides and a good variety of animals. Good for kids about 5 and older, they have family day for younger kids. Such great things this place does for animals!

These people do a Herculean task on a David budget. They know all about the animals they care for and do a marvelous job at caring for them and getting them back into the wild. The ones that they can't they still take marvellous care of knowing that they will never get back to their original home. But they provide so much enrichment to them. They are not just board animals inside fenced enclosures which are pretty big. I support them as much as my budget will allow. Hope you will too.

Awesome hidden gem. Great for families, couples, or on your own. Tours are 9-11 am most days. Even in middle of summer, it's very reasonable out there - almost all of the tour is in shade (but bring water, if it's a hot day). Interesting and educated tour guides talk you through their entire wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs. Over 300 animals in total with excellent examples of most species able to be seen easily and up close. Everything from raptors to gray wolves to black bears. The big cats are super cool, too. Very glad we were able to find this place (they should do more marketing).

This is a fantastic place to see wildlife. We saw several mountain lions, some bears, and many other species living in well-designed and spacious habitats. Our tour guide, Geneva, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. She knew the answer to every question we asked about these incredible animals. It is really nice to know that this organization is a non-profit which is actually trying to reintroduce animals back into the wild where they belong. The only animals that we were allowed to see were those which had no chance of living on their own in the wild. It was good to know that we could enjoy seeing these majestic creatures while at the same time supporting an institution which has the best interests of the animals, rather than profit, in mind. If you are interested in the fantastic mammals of Arizona, you should definitely consider giving this place your time and support!

Wonderful experience, Julie, our guide, was very friendly, knowledge and made the experience a pleasure. The size of the mountain lions, from cubs to full grown, impressive! Never knew we had bears in AZ and the foxes, wolves, coyotes, there are a lot of animals here. Thanks Julie, a wonderful experience.

What a beautiful place! Whether you are a local or a visitor, if you love animals, you MUST visit this cozy and interesting place. Saw it on a Saturday noon and it was a wonderful experience. Unlike zoos where I always feel sad and depressed about the animals, here you walk away with a great feeling as this place care greatly for the animals and 80% of the wildlife is released back into nature. The guides are also very knowledgeable and will answer any questions to the animals. This is perfect both for a date or for a family with kids. You need to register for a time, so make sure to plan it ahead of time.

This is a great place to view and learn about wild animals in the desert, plus a few surprises. Some animals you may have never heard of. Star of the show is Goliath the tortoise.

The tour was wonderful and the staff was so knowledgeable! It was great to see the animals that were out. The wildlife sanctuary is very nice. Would definitely come back to support and see again if we come back to area. Thanks so much for showing me around and hearing about the animals and wildlife!

This is a wonderful sanctuary and a remarkable place to take a tour. The guides are knowledgeable and help you understand not only the animals and their journeys, but also the work they do at the sanctuary. So much happens behind the scenes, and its refreshing to be able to see some small part of their great work. I highly recommend booking a tour on their website and making the trip out. This is a place that truly cares for the animals in their location, and a great way to experience some of the remarkable wildlife the southwest has to offer.

Amazing sanctuary, great staff, happy well taken care of animals and worth the drive. We brought our kids for the animal tour and our guide was extremely gracious with them. We learned so much about how this sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and releases most of these animals. And the ones who couldn’t be released are living the best life they could in captivity. The tour was awesome, highly recommend!

What a cool find! This is a heartwarming place, the staff is very kind and welcoming, the grounds are done up and maintained so nice for the animals. Went with the single group and did the full moon guided tour with Daphne as our tour guide. I learned so much about the animals. I saw and heard wolves, bobcats, mountain lions, bears, coyotes, foxes, and more. I highly recommend booking a tour on their website and making the trip out. This is a place that truly cares for the animals in their location and a great way to experience some of the remarkable wildlife the southwest has to offer.

We had an excellent tour guide and really enjoyed hearing the stories behind each animal. Remember to book your tour in advance and that they are not recommended for small children. It is definitely worth a stop if you are in the Phoenix area. The mountain lions and bears were or favorites!

My husband and I took a tour and it was one of the most fascinating and educational experiences. The guides were friendly and informative. We saw cougars, tortoise, fox, coyotes, Mexican grey wolves, mule deer and even bears. We really enjoyed this and highly recommend it.

It was an absolutely incredible experience. Our tour guide Geneva made the entire tour so cool with the help of the other staff. We got to see all the mountain lions out, the coyotes all yipping which got a wolf to start howling, and the incredibly smart and talented Heavenly bear showed us how he eats peanuts. We were also SUPER lucky enough to see Bindy the Bengal Tiger before she set off for her new home.

It was amazing to visit the animals and learn more about our native wildlife. It saddens me that so many animals have been deprived an opportunity to live in the wild because of mishandling by the public. I’m grateful that a sanctuary as amazing as this one is available to rehab and house these beautiful creatures. Thank you, SWCC!!!

I attended the Walk With Wildlife Tour in December. I would highly recommend the tour, especially if you have an interest in nature and animals. You will learn about the rescues mission and how they operate. You also will see some animals that are two accustomed to captivity to be released into the wild and remain in their care. I was impressed with the variety and the rescue. I hear they will be moving to a new, larger location within the next few years, and I hope to see that at some point. Walk with the wildlife tour is guided so it does require paying attention to the guide for a couple hours, so it may not be best for young kids, or people who get bored quickly. I was told there were other events that are more interactive, at night, and not guided (better for kids). I hope to check these out at some point when I am back in Arizona.

Wow! What an amazing experience. This place has it all- owls, bobcats, coyotes, bears, wolves, mountain lions, coatimundi and more. They take in animals that people tried to keep as pets or animals that were confiscated and give them a forever home. The staff are all very knowledgeable and the animals are obviously well cared for. Seeing mountain lions close up was an incredible and humbling experience. Can't recommend this place enough.

A brilliant facility with an incredible array of interesting animals, mammals rescued from bad situations. We took a tour with Robyn, who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the center's mission to rescue, rehabilitate and release these animals. We gained important knowledge and had a wonderful experience.

Nice walk, kid friendly, knowledgeable tour guide. You can tell everyone who volunteers or works there really care about the animals. More donations are welcomed. Location is hidden down gravel residential road so a little hard to find. Need a larger sign at location's driveway.

A coyote was hit by a car on a community property I work for. I called "wildlife", who took down location information and said a tech would be out as soon as possible. It never happened. A private service had to be called in to rescue this poor animal in pain.

You'll find this place to be much more of an intimate experience than your average zoo. Animal enclosures are much closer to view and staff are very friendly. I like the small-group tour format rather than being surrounded by the loud public.

  • 5/5 Kelli O. 3 years ago on Google
Staff was friendly & very knowledgeable about the rescued animals. Everything is outdoors, & they have small tour groups. Felt safe during the pandemic. I highly recommend the visit. You can go to their website, & donate to a well worth cause. Their intention is to release the animals & birds that have a chance back in the wild. Some of the rescues will live out their lives @ the center due to human exposure, blindness, severe injuries etc. They have an animal hospital on site.

Incredible experience. Staff/ volunteers were so genuine, friendly and passionate about the animals and cause they serve. Diane was our tour guide and her dedication to the happiness and success of these animals was apparent in everything she did. Don't miss the rare opportunity this facility has to offer; give back and get to know the wonderful creatures that inhabit this beautiful desert landscape.
