Run, don't walk, to Via Ghibellina! Everything is amazing but the Fritto Misto appetizer is a must! As a full-blooded Italian-American from Rhode Island, a state full of authentic Italian restaurants, I struggled for awhile to find authentic Italian restaurants in the DMV. After Napoli Pasta bar so sadly closed, I found Via Ghibellina! The atmosphere, food, quality, management and staff are all immaculate!

Went for my sister’s birthday. The calamari/shrimp appetizer was ok. The lobster bisque was flavorful and went well with the breadsticks. Both people who had pizza enjoyed their food. Three people who ordered ragu loved their food. The person who ordered the cacio e Pepe loved her food. My brother enjoyed his steak although he wished he would have gotten the pizza. I had the pasta with buffalo mozzarella and eggplant. Awesome. Good food.

Sorry to say that my experience here was disappointing. I had read good things about this place and we were there at a busy time on a Saturday evening which may have contributed to the problems, but I do think they should be able to handle the pressure of a busy weekend evening. We shared the Fritto Misto as an appetizer and it was well prepared, delicately fried, came out promptly with a tasty red sauce. I had the Cacio a Pepe pasta as my main course. The dish came out cold and the sauce was kind of watery and the proportions were off. We also ordered the asparagus as a side dish and it never came. My husband had to the mushroom risotto which used ordinary button mushrooms and it was underwhelming. In fairness, the hostess gave us two complementary glasses of wine as an apology for the poor service and she also brought out the asparagus and didn’t charge us although we were almost finished with our meal by then. At least she made a sincere effort to try to set things right. Other than that, it is a pleasant room and appears to be quite popular. Hopefully they will get the service issues straightened out.

Via Ghibellina is an awesome hidden gem and was a perfect addition to an Italian themed evening in DC for my husband and I. We were in the area tasting Italian liqueurs at Don Ciccio and Figli and were ready for dinner. We walked around the block and decided to stop in here. The restaurant is rather unassuming from outside, but as soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. Everyone we interacted with on the staff was very kind. One gentlemen by the name of Rodrigo, I believe, asked what our general preferences were for Italian food and then gave great recommendations. I noticed he was attentive to all the tables in this manner, which was really great to see. It should be noted this is a small to average sized establishment and was moderately busy while we were there. We ordered caprese to start accompanied by Chianti and then two homemade pasta dishes (beef with noodles and lamb with noodles) for our entrees. They also gave us homemade bread that was a perfect compliment to the caprese. Everything was very fresh and delicious. What may seem like rather simple dishes were distinctly flavorful and well put together. We ordered tiramisu for dessert and while I would have like the lady fingers a little more soaked in espresso, it was still really good. I would definitely come back and you should give this place a chance the next time you are in the neighborhood. Thanks! :-)

Came in within the last hour before they closed. Got the pizza and pasta. Both delivered in flavor and consistency. Desert was one of the best! Will have to come back for their lobster specials. Overall amazing service. :)

Amazing!! Took a friend who is in town for her birthday and it was absolutely amazing, although it was a week and it wasn’t super busy which is great because I serve it was extremely attentive! We started with the bread, warm and crispy drizzled in an amazing olive oil. And the CAPRESE! The tomatoes were phenomenal, and the mozzarella was very fresh! For drinks we ordered a champagne drink. It was really good and refreshing. My entree I had PETTO DI POLLO AL LIMONE E CAPERI LIMONE the crispy potatoes were really good. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the sauce was amazing. The only downside is that it was small it definitely left me wanting more, it was more of a tasting portion verses entree portion. I cannot wait to go back to this restaurant and try a couple more things. If you’re in the area, please check it out.

Rodrigo took such good care of our group! My bridesmaids planned out a reservation for my bachelorette and they were sweet enough to spruce up my dessert for the evening. Service was excellent and the food was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend folks make their way out here for any occasion out.

Grabbed a great pizza here before heading over to Other Half for some beers. I was the only person there at dinner time on a Thursday evening and my pizza came out in less than 10 minutes.

Yum, yum, yum! A fantastic hidden gem. Had a burrata with grapefruit/ pine nuts, cacio e pepe with spinach and asparagus sides. The food was awesome and the service impeccable. The staff guided us through the wine list thoughtfully asking several questions to help us decide. We had tiramisu and panna cotta to close out the meal. Such a wonderful dinner.

This place is amazing! The food was exception and Rodrigo was so attentive and kind. We had such a lovely dinner date. It was cozy, but sophisticated, and felt so intimate. Go here!!

Incredible! Best Italian in DC! Francesco is the funniest, best waiter I’ve had in years. So excited to come back. If you come for brunch get the Carbonara and the French Toast!

I’ve eaten here before and the food has always been good. Tonight I went and it’s 8:38 when I walk-in and am told they just closed, despite their website saying they close at 9pm. This is very disappointing and quite frankly upsetting that they don’t stick to their POSTED business hours. Nowhere does it say they close close at 8:40 as the host stated! As I wait outside the restaurant for my husband who was parking the car the host locks the doors at 8:44! Even though she said they are offering take out. How can you offer takeout and lock the doors.

This is one our of favorite restaurants in the area. The service is great! It feels like home and we are treated like the Via Ghibellina family every time we go. The manager Rodrigo always greets us with warm welcomes, and the staff has made their restaurant feel like we are the most special people. I love the pizza, cocktails, wine selection, pasta, and finishing dinner with the espresso martini and tiramisu always feels like a treat. Whenever we ask for wine suggestions Rodrigo knows exactly what to pair with our food/mood. I would recommend Via Ghibellina if you are in the ivy city area. Grab some beers at the brewery or cocktails at the distillery. And when you need some food, go to Via Ghibellina and be catered to some delicious Italian food and great service!

Had an amazing dinner here at Via Ghibellina! Super lovely restaurant in Ivy City near Planet Fitness and Mom’s. This is some of the best and most authentic Italian we’ve had yet in the city. We got the arancini appetizer and they gave a DELICIOUS flatbread with it as well. I got the house Chardonnay, which was good, though a little more light than I wanted. For meals, we got the pappardelle con ragú di agnello (braised lamb, green olives, tomato, grana padano and mint) and pici alla carretiera (garlic, olive oil, light spicy tomato sauce, pepperoncino, basil). Both were amazing, though I think both us agree the pappardelle took the crown for the night. The pici was wonderful, but maybe slightly too spicy. Be cautious if you’re not big into spice on that dish! Aside from the food, the service was incredible. Everyone was kind and genuine. One of the staff there actually saw that our table was a little wobbly upon sitting, and immediately asked to fix it for us. We will gladly be returning and highly recommending!

My husband and I go quite often to Italy for business reasons, so we can say with safe reference that Via Ghibelina offers the most authentic Italian cuisine in the area. Everything we have tried was tasty and the service didn’t fall behind in anything! I definitely recommend it!

Excellent service! They were still able to accommodate us with outdoor seating even though we were traveling with two dogs and it was somewhat raining outside. We placed a joint order for pizza, an arugula salad, meat, pasta, and pizza. We adored every aspect! When the server realized that one of the steak dishes had been prepared well done when medium rare was requested, he was kind enough to take it back to the kitchen and prepare another one. Would most certainly return!
