Yum oh yum! Love the fresh seafood, noodles, drink menu, and desserts! This time I ordered noodles with shredded vegetable and shrimp tempura. The broth was rich, noodles were tender, and tempura was absolutely delicious! Just the right amount of food to satisfy but not too much to make you feel stuffed. Look forward to going back again. The prices are very reasonable too.

Pretty good place to stop by for a quick meal if you’re looking for something filling but light! I’d definitely come back again if I’m looking for a nice light meal in the area where service is fast and courteous. Stick to the options that American-Japanese joints do well, like dons and sushi rolls. I was adventurous and got a hot soba, which fell a bit short of expectations as it broke apart very easily, but this place is by no means a bad restaurant. I can imagine they do their cold sobas better!

Okay so it is a good restaurant but the overall quality of the foods and experience do not worth the price. We have a sashimi deluxe, duck cold soba, one order of sea urchin nigiri, one lobster okonomiyaki, three skewers, one small warm sake and one bottle of asahi. 113 dollars excluding the tips. The best dishes would be the sashimi, the texture and taste just match the price, but the crab sticks in that sashimi deluxe is kind of ridiculous since you know, most of the crab sticks we can have are not made of crab meat… My friend and me both love their egg omelet, with dashi and perfect sweetness. Skewers are nice enough too, they’re definitely using the right soy sauce. Soba is just soba. But I have to mention that the urchins they used for the nigiri are terrible, though creamy, they tasted bitter. And the rice of the nigiri is too warm for a sushi, and the nori almost dominates the flavor of everything else in that sushi…it’s just unacceptable in such a Japanese cuisine. I guess the flour paste they use for the takoyaki and the lobster okonomiyaki is the same, which you can find all over the place at any restaurant that sells such things. They are using the lobster but it’s hard to taste it… I think people are supposed to have better dishes at such price. I expected Sugidama to be a more delicate restaurant but I’m wrong. I can’t feel much difference in their recipes or the design of dishes with other cheaper Japanese restaurant. Hopefully Sugidama will make some improvements. I’m considering to try their lunch menu since that seems more economical.

We went here on the 2nd day of their opening for dinner around 8. When we got here, they were out of lots of items we wanted to try, including anything Matcha related, couple of foods. However the atmosphere was pretty nice. There was about a 20 minutes waiting period. The drinks was also pretty good. Ended up trying sashimi cold Soba and it was pretty good. We got the Yuzu cheesecake for dessert which was surprisingly such a small portion. Other than that, the food itself were really good. Due to the items we wanted missing we were also given some items on the house, which was a nice gesture. Overall, the place is good, would recommend for food and drinks.

Sugidama is my restaurant of choice when the craving for something fresh kicks in. Their chirashi bowl ($28) is worth it, in my opinion. I’m no sushi expert but I do know when something is of good quality. Some of my favorite dishes are: the Hokkaido scallops, takoyaki, and karaage! Could care less for their soba. To be honest, thought the broth was too sweet and lacked substance/nuance.

The menu has a very wide selection of everything from soba noodles to sushi to izakaya style Japanese food. Prices are reasonable. Making a reservation might be helpful but not a must, we had to wait ~40min for a party of 3 on a Friday night without a reservation.

Went to this restaurant during lunch. The quality of the food was very good. We got the sashimi lunch special, gyoza, a veggie roll and another lunch special (yakatori with warm soba noddles if I recall correctly). The service was also attentive and quick.

I don’t come here for the soba 😂. I come for the yummy rolls, apps and deserts. I’ve done both dine in and take out. Both are at quality and did not disappoint. If you get takeout dessert they ice it so it doesn’t melt which is amazing. Their flaming scallop app is a great showy item that is fun with friends. It’s small but with other small plates is super fun amongst the table. I think this shop has some of the most fun specialty rolls. Go with what you like. Would definitely recommend to get dessert. I default to the sesame Mont Blanc which is super fun and novel.

So happy Sugidama opened up again! I will def be back soon Favorites: The sushi (amazing quality), Sake selection & presentation, Sake uni taco (expensive but delicious), pork belly yakitori Skeptical at first but actually good:
The Agedashi Tofu looked weird because the broth was a lot more thick than what I’m used to - but I was pleasantly surprised by the mushroom flavor The Spicy Crispy Mango Tuna - it also just looked weird but was actually very good To Skip next time: Scallop Yakitori (so small, not worth the cost), Scallop Hokkaiyaki (there’s better options elsewhere), New Nori Sushi Pizza , Egg Omelet

A wide selection of cold and hot sobas! Love the ambience and atmosphere of this place, super well decorated, clean, fits a decent size group (we came as 6), lighting and everything was great! We tried the dragon roll and baby hamachi jalapeño (6 pieces) for appetizers which were both quite good and easy to share. We also got the ebi kakiage hot soba which came with these veggie topped with shrimp tempura and a decently large bowl of soba and broth. Tempura and broth was great although I was not personally a fan of the soba texture which was not particularly chewy. We also ordered a Yuzu Roll House Maki which was a great pairing of the yuzu sauce and sashimi in the roll.

I visited Sugidama Soba Izakaya after five years, now in a different location around the corner The place is pretty spacious with ample seating, and there was no wait around 1 pm on Sunday. The chicken tatsuta age was remarkably tender and juicy, though not very crispy. The juiciness made up for it, and it had good flavor. The scallop was delicious but quite expensive at $9 for one. It was perfectly marinated with lemon pepper and butter, cooked to perfection and tender. The enoki wrapped in beef was good but not outstanding. Unfortunately, the hot soba with tempura was the least enjoyable. The tempura had shrimp, but it was the bad opaque kind that easily gets overcooked and grainy. The tempura were generally undercooked and lacked seasoning. The soba soup was fine, pretty standard, but the noodles seemed a bit overcooked and floury when bitten into. Overall there were some tasty dishes, but I did not enjoy the entree I got at all. I probably won't come back, and if I do, I will not get the soba. It's otherwise a very pleasant and clean space in a prime location.

SUGIDAMA in Davis Square offers an outstanding dining experience with food that truly stands out. The hot soba was delicious, showcasing authentic flavors and quality preparation. The sushi was on point, but the UNI taco stole the show – a star in its own right! Each bite was a delightful journey of flavors, a testament to the culinary excellence at SUGIDAMA. Highly recommended for those seeking an exceptional dining experience with a standout menu.

I have missed going to this place even though I have been to Davis square a zillion times. Finally made it. We walked in at 6:30 pm on a Friday, thanks to our early timing that we were able to get seated even without reservation at the bar coz it filled up really fast with mostly people who had prior reservations. Our waitress took our order and right after that there was a small argument between the hostess and her that the hostess had promised the bar seat to another party, it was awkward coz we could hear all of it but thankfully ended in the next few minutes. So lesson learned is that make a reservation at this place. Food was freshly made and some of the items were excellent and others good. My favorite was the hot udon with tempura and even better the scallops hokkaiyaki. We ordered two skewers of chichek thigh and a pork belly , the sizes are pretty small but they were grilled to perfection so no complaints. Also had the torch toro maki which was pretty good but I have had better. Drinks were good too. I only have slight complaint that there were far few waiting staff as compared to the traffic in the izakaya , so felt a bit chaotic when trying to order. Otherwise it's a great place in Davis square for Japanese fare even though it is probably not run by Japanese people.

The environment is really nice, and the food is great. I ordered the cold duck soba and my table shared takoyaki and the fried octopus. My boyfriend and I fell in love with the fried octopus! It was so good! I wish we had ordered another plate of it. The takoyaki was also very good! The duck soba was fantastic, the duck was tender and I received a good amount of it as well.

Cute little place for sushi. This time I got lunch take-out and was not disappointed. Great presentation and all liquid ( soy sauce and soba soup ) was double packed to ensure no leakage. Fish was fresh and soba soup was perfect. Pictured: Salmon oyako don lunch combo with hot soba. $17 on doordash.

A very busy restaurant that had speedy service and good food. For appetizers, my friends and I got two maki rolls, which were your typical sushi rolls, not anything extraordinary. For the entree, I got the Pork Kimchi Dip Soba. It was my first time eating cold soba, and Sugidama did not disappoint! I enjoyed it a lot, and although the fire under the soup went out early on, the soup was hot enough to warm the noodles up until the end. I found it a good experience for first soba eaters!

We went here on a super hot day, and I have to highly recommend their cold soba paired with Sapporo (get the big ones, they’re 10 each). I’ve been wanting to try this place for years and am kicking myself for waiting so long! Here’s a pic of the cold soba plus tempura option.

Great service, provided water and pitcher upon seating us My group order various things as snacks and refreshes, everyone seemed happy The waiter checked in with us frequently and even asked the people that joined us if they wanted to order anything and gave us another pitcher of water I ordered some appetizers, which were pretty good, I would definitely be willing to visit again

I love their soba noodles!!! Sushi was fresh and tasty. Very few restaurants in Boston cooked such nice vinegary sushi rice. Great experience.

Nice soba place. Haven't eaten great soba for a long time. Their skewers were also very good. They have parking permits for the private parking next to the store. Just ask the front desk and they will kindly show you.
