Wow! The trails were easy to walk to the river. Great docks and seating when I got there. Then I saw the gardens!!! Wow and Wow! I love perennial gardens and these were well taken care of and beautiful! The buildings fantastic, koi pond, and I didn't even see everything! Free Also! Go online for planned activities.

This is a lovely garden, quite extensive, with a visitor and welcome center complex near the entrance (free bathrooms, very clean, and a beautiful sitting space in the courtyard with tables and chairs) and lots of walking trails. I visited on a gorgeous fall day; it was cold but not so much so that it wasn't enjoyable to walk around, but the best of the gardens was definitely over for the year and there weren't many people. I'd love to come back in the spring or summer and see it all in full bloom. Be aware - the posted opening hours for the welcome center and shop are 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, but just as I arrived they closed up to go to lunch, and they remained closed the whole time I was there, which was a shame as I didn't get to see inside at all and I had hoped to.

We enjoyed our visit during Earth week. It was exciting, my students got to plant herbs. It was 75 degrees. It was such a beautiful day, and wonderful learning experience.

Really beautiful and secluded place to chill, fish, and launch your kayak or sup. I brought my standup paddle board here to learn how to use it in a less populated space. The only downside is the long walk from parking to the waterfront. The way in is downhill and so you're going uphill on the way out. If you're carrying a kayak or sup you may want some kind of wheels because after paddling you may find it tiring to walk back to your car because the path is fully exposed to the sun. This spot feels like a getaway from the city, but the view of whatever industrial stuff is across the water is a little blah. I imagine when things are up and running normally this is a great place to hangout and borrow one of their boats since they have a dock and free boating available.

I'm really sad that this oasis is being trashed by some reviewers. No, it isn't in the greatest neighborhood, but stop calling people's homes the hood, the ghetto, and trash. Have some civility! The gardens are absolutely lovely - even in the fall. The young woman at the welcome center was so nice and so helpful and so vibrant that she really surprised me. We walked to nearly 300 year old apple cider press and we were so taken with it that we stayed there and imagined what it would have been like to have experienced the process. We enjoyed speaking with a volunteer about the community farm and its good works. What an incredible experience for young people to have in an urban setting! Finally, we visited the event tent and pictured how beautiful a wedding or special event could be there. You can see pictures on the website. I really loved the fallen column bench outside the tent b/c it was such a lovely idea. People talking about refunds? Refund for what? The garden admission is free and no donations were requested. It seems to me that a National Historic Landmark like this one should be cherished, not chastised. My family loved it!

On the grounds of the country's first botanical gardens is now a 50-acre public park with trails, history and views of the city. Here's what you can expect: 1) Parking: There's a small lot on the grounds for free. If there's an event, go early to grab a spot. 2) Trails: There are several that weave along the river and through a meadow. They are easy hikes for the whole family. 3) Views: A beautiful view of the Philly skyline can be seen throughout. 4) Amenities: There are 18th century buildings and a boathouse where people fish nearby.

Great place to clear your head. Peaceful with views of nature and waterways. We didn’t even walk the entire grounds. Many back end trails that take you deep in the woods. Fun for adults and children alike. Looking forward to going back when I have more time and soaking more of it in.

Lovely,so many interesting things here to see! My family and I did not schedule a tour, but the staff was still so very accommodating. It was me ,my sister and our 88 year old mother. There was one particular staff member by the name of "Marwan", who helped us get around!! I must get back there and schedule a tour!

Love it!!! They used to be Amber Asian in Lansdale and moved here. It was a long drive but worth it. It's my favorite sushi. Today we got salmon avocado, spicy scallops, and yellowtail jalapeno. Delicious. We also got red curry, green curry, general tso's chicken, and pad thai. It was all wonderful! Thanks Wendy!

Bartram park is a very beautiful place. It reminds me of being in Sweden. It is a joy to have a beautiful public park so close to so many things. I highly recommend taking time out of your day to spend time here.

Great local garden. Such a positive place to have in the community. Admission is free and there are often free events. The grounds are well kept. The only issue is the lack of parking, but I've never had an issue. Nice place for a picnic or a stroll. They have free boating seasonally, classes, plant sales and other events.

The oldest botanical garden in North America, this is a beautiful outdoor space with walking paths, well-maintained gardens, plenty of trees, river access, and skyline views. You can take the Bartram's Mile trail north or south from the garden for a nice riverside walk. I love that this place is free with on-site parking, bathrooms, water fountains, picnic tables, and a visitor center/gift shop. They have a lot of cool public events and seem to be really engaged in the community, too.

This is my haven within the bustling city of Philadelphia. I read once that if you identify as an empath and you live in or are visiting a big city, the first thing you do should be to find a park or nature reserve. So, I found Bartram’s and immediately knew it was a place I could return to when I was seeking feelings of safety, calm, and clarity. I am forever grateful to those who have made and continue to make this gem of a garden accessible and beautiful.

Beautiful venue for a wedding. The ceremony had a nice view of the water, with plenty of trees and birds chirping a way. The food was amazing especially the mini chicken salad cracker. Also, the staff were especially friendly. Except one bartender who mixed up whiskey and bourbon. Otherwise a fantastic night.

Great visit! Had never been but was able to wall around some today and enjoy the greenery as well as the plant sale. Prices ranged from $5 and up for a big variety. Also were encouraging people to become members for a free lemon thyme plant. Super charming and glad I'm a member now! Will be back for more!

I lived next to this garden/park all my life and I'll tell you what...this is a hidden gem in the community. It offers such a diverse array of activities from a basic stroll to a full fledge wedding. The possibilities are endless. I remember when there also used to be a tennis court and a baseball field but, the turned those into gardens, so that's not that bad. The only regret I have is that more people don't take advantage of its beauty

I had such an enjoyable visit exploring Bartram Gardens. Initially I arranged to participate in a demo of "Art in the Meadow" (an installation art project scheduled for completion in 2021). I then spent time wandering the grounds. The gardens are absolutely beautiful! There is a wide variety of plants, flowers, and trees. Bartram is really an interesting location. There are acres of natural space which accesses the Schuylkill River, the location is adjacent to an urban neighborhood and all of it is within view of the Philadelphia skyline.

Not as wonderful as it's been in the past. People aren't exercising physical distancing or lashing their dogs. I thought it was required, the law - to do both! It will be a while before I return or I may come earlier like 6:30am o to avoid insensitive & selfish people.😣

Service is good, however, the place is a dump, very dirty. I've seen the clientele diminish over the years, instead of sitting around waiting for clients, they need to pick up a mop and start cleaning.

I loved the Garden and the Garden Trail. I'm not too crazy about the paved trail at 2 different spots in the trail I came across breaks showing that there are different ways in and out of the trail wish didn't feel very safe and secure in my opinion. Definitely wouldn't walk the paved trail alone because of this. Plus points... Both trails are easy to walk and they offer some great views. Plenty of spots to have a picnic or just sit and take in the beautiful atmosphere. There is even a small play area for he kids. The staff and other visitors all seem nice and friendly. Will mark this as a favorite and will definitely be back.

Lovely oasis near southwest Philly. Good to clear your mind in nature, a little small but nicely kept. Can't wait until they open up more of the bike trails and the bridge spanning the river to access the Schuylkill Trail

Such a beautiful relaxing place! Worth the out-of-the-way trek to get there. Acres of green land along the Schuylkill to hike and admire. We were there today to help make wreaths for their Christmas sale, but they have a lot of fun activities year round (in non - pandemic times of course), like maker classes, boat rentals, tours.

Bartram garden is the most amazing place ever I mean this place is incredible. The flowers are incredible there’s like thousands of different kinds. You can spend days here and I see all of it. It’s connected to the trails is connected to bike trails there’s always families here in advance. There’s tons of space really cool old buildings that sprawl throughout the facilities they’ve also updated a lot of the trail area so I made a really cool updates everything. This is definitely a great place to chill and I would definitely recommend it to anybody that was stopping through Philly or has been here the whole life. This is a historical space but you can find throughout history as it was used in the colonial a John has a place to invite embassies and diplomats to come see the United States. Many of the gardens are designed based off of different plants from all over the world

This is a nice neighborhood park, and all the trees are labeled like an arboretum. It can be a bit noisy since it's close to the train and the road, but overall we generally enjoy our visits here.

I went here tonight for the first time with my daughters, 9 and 3. This salon is FANTASTIC. This is my go to from now on.

  • 3/5 Melanie K. 10 years ago on Google
This place is just around the corner from my in-laws house. I have been here a handful of times and always leave satisfied. I stopped in today for a pedicure and an eyebrow waxing. Truth be told the salon is pretty dated and could use some new pedicure chairs (the one I sat on today was cracked and worn) and a coat of paint on the walls. I hate to say this but most of the furniture should be replaced; the salon is beginning to look kinda dumpy. Anyway, the tech who did my pedi and brow waxing was very sweet and took her time. My toes look beautiful and the pain I had from an ingrown toenail is all gone! My eyebrows look great, too. If it weren't for the dilapidated condition of the salon his place would be a 4 or 5 star establishment.

Great service here! This is the only spot I go to. They’re always so friendly and attentive. The prices are reasonable. Please support this local business!!! Also just to comment on the salon itself, as I read some other reviews, the place is far from dirty. Maybe slightly dated, however that makes me want to support them more. It’s a small establishment and they do fantastic work—don’t let any negative reviews sway you from trying it out.

  • 5/5 Sally C. 6 years ago on Google
Very small salon, but in a good way. They don't treat you like a number. I like the fact that they never have the TV on. If you go there more than once, they will remember your name. They will do dip powder "refills," whereas my former salon wouldn't. Excellent pedicures, they really take their time massaging and use hot stones at the end, for only $25!

Rode our bikes on the Leiper-Smedley trail. Most of the trail is pretty rough with plenty of steep hills, also some turns were not marked. Not much as far as scenery and constant highway noise.

Bartram's Garden is a treat to visit across 4 seasons. During our last visit in late winter, we walked the newish Bartram's Garden trail along the river, and explored the boathouse. By Bartram's house, our keen-scenting dog led us to a stone cider press that Bartram built. There's a sign explaining Bartram sold cider to visits who would paddle up in their botas from the Schuylkill River.

Nestled along the banks of the Schuylkill River, Bartram's Garden stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of nature and the rich history it holds. A visit to this hidden gem is nothing short of a journey through time, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The meticulously maintained landscape, a harmonious blend of lush meadows, colorful wildflowers, and towering trees, invites you to slow down and reconnect with the natural world. It's a place where the stress of everyday life seems to fade away, replaced by a sense of calm and awe. One of the highlights of my visit was the Bartram's Mile trail, which offers breathtaking views of the Schuylkill River and the Philadelphia skyline beyond. The juxtaposition of urban and natural landscapes creates a unique visual experience that's both soothing and thought-provoking.

Beautiful gardens! The map was decent to follow some of the things were not well marked. There was a large array of plants, flowers and trees to see! Some of the areas were more for locals volunteering. There are at least two sets of rest rooms fyi there were only one set open near the gift shop back door. The inside of the buildings were sadly not open to any tours.
