We flew in and the view was awesome. Such an incredible place at the true end of the keys. The diving is stellar and the birds are all in full roost. The whole area is teaming with activity. The turtles are nesting. The fort is getting some much needed love to rejuvenate it after this past hurricane. An absolute must see.

AMAZING! 10*s if it was possible. The history of the fort was interesting, and the views and pictures available throughout were incredible. Snorkeling among the pylons of the old coal docks and when swimming about 100 yards out on the west side (only 6-8 ft deep) offered spectacular views of coral and wildlife. Many types and colors of coral, countless schools of colorful fish. We saw many colors of parrot fish and other colorful species, mackerel, a school of baby squid, and barracuda up to 4 ft long. The water was a little choppy that day but still easy to snorkel among obstacles.

Camped four nights in October. Spectacular, quiet, perfect. Friendly and helpful staff. Ferry service is clean and reliable. It's pricey to get there and back, but worth it. If you're camping, bring EVERYTHING you need (don't expect to be able to get anything there), and take it all back out with you. Remember your solar powered battery charger for your camera!

Very cool experience. Take the plane ride...really adds to the trip. Lots of history. Try to take the first plane of the day...you will nearly have the place to yourself.

Speechless. Most spectacular water I have ever seen. Walking the moat you could see into the water as well as you could from your snorkel mask. There were hundreds of giant pink jellyfish (dinner plate-size) on the dock-side of the island so we went to the opposite side to snorkel where there were just a few. I believe I got hit by a couple of them and, to be honest, I didn't even get an itch. (They have very short tentacles/stingers.) The water was not as clear as I had hoped when snorkeling - it must have been stirred up a bit but there was no real waves. We swam next to the moat where there is coral growing on the walls. There were some fish, but not as many as I had hoped for. Don't be afraid to go to the coal pier pylons - there are probably more fish there. You might want to leave your stuff right next to the ferry until you decide where you are going to snorkel so you don't have to haul your stuff around. The walk to the other side of the island is not far, but you'll wish you didn't have to carry your stuff back and forth anyway.

Spectacular brick fort located in the Dry Tortugas. You have to take a ferry (or if you have deep pockets…a seaplane) from Key West. Tickets are a robust $200. You can take a paddle board or kayak on the ferry, but it’s an extra charge. The trip takes 2.15 hours and you get to spend about 6 hours on the island before departure. Bring a swimsuit, mask, snorkel, and towel. The snorkeling around the fort is fantastic.

Beautiful place to go... If you're taking the seaplane beware.... A half day only equals about 2 hours on the dry Tortuga's. I was disappointed because i mainly went to snorkel and didn't really have enough time to do so. There are several snorkeling spots but a half day doesn't allow enough time to check out but 1 and on my half day the first spot was so cloudy i couldn't see... When i have up on that spot i realized i had to pack up and get back to the plane to leaveπŸ™„.

Beautiful fort in the middle of the ocean. Requires a boat or seaplane. There where several sea planes taking off from the area. There is a long sandy beach to lay in the sun. The roof is accessible to walk and see the best views. It was about 1 hour & 45 min boat ride with rough water. We experienced nearly 8 foot waves. Our boat went airborne and nearly 1/4 passengers got sick... it was still worth the experience.

Wonderful place to visit. If you come by ferry you only have four hours to explore. I recommend taking the free guided tour at the start. Very informative and sets you up for exploring on your own. If you stay and camp overnight, the Fort is yours to explore at still, although you have to camp outside. Buy some alcohol from the ferry and picnic on one of the beaches.

Great Day trip from Key West! Highly recommend Yankee Freedom to get to and from the island. Secluded snorkeling and a great national park experience. Bring your sunscreen, towel, and hop on the boat for a fun day in the sun mixed with some history about Fort Jefferson! The Yankee provides a tasty bagel for breakfast and Jersey Mikes subs for lunch. Extra food, drinks and cocktails available for purchase....super affordable prices. All of this is included in your trip price with Yankee Freedom. Great for families, couples and solo travelers.

The dry Tortugas is a must visit. The Fort is awesome and the snorkeling was good too. It's a 2.5 hour boat ride each way but breakfast and lunch are included as well as cocktails for the ride back. Bring plenty of sunscreen, change of clothes and snacks for kids.

What an amazing trip. The fort is fantastic and offers amazing photographic opportunities. Snorkeling and beach fun is great with white Sandy beaches and great snorkeling around the walls of the fort. Everyone there goes above and beyond to make your visit as comfortable as possible. It’s an all day adventure that is worth every Penny and offers an unforgettable adventure. Can’t wait to return to do the camping.

Amazing civil-war era fort that is the second-largest masonry structure in the world (after the Great Wall of China). We took the guided tour and found it to be very informative - The guide was one of the crew members from the ferry. The sheer amount of work that went into this fort is almost unbelievable, and the conditions the workers endured were extremely harsh. Plan to spend at least an hour or two in the fort on your visit to the island.

Booked a boat trip from Key West that took two and a half hours one way to Fort Jefferson. Which went relatively quickly, once at the fort we got to see the fantastic fort and learn about its history. You could then if you wanted to swim and snorkel, which we did, there is a beautiful coral reef and lots of fish to see. Highly recommend the trip.

So amazing. We did the all day trip. Decided to splurge and take the seaplane. So much quicker than the boat. The fort is huge and you can pretty much go anywhere you want. A lot of history there. Snorkeling is incredible. There is not much shade other than the fort. So bring sunscreen and drink lots of water.

Such a unique old fort! Took seaplane to get there. Go early to have fort to yourself before the ferry arrives. Must bring food and drinks and remember all trash needs to be taken out with you upon departure. Beautiful area!

The USA does not end at Key West. Keep going by air or sea another 70 miles to the Dry Tortugas National Park to visit Ft. Jefferson. Snorkel around the fort to see amazing undersea creatures.

What an absolutely amazing experience!!!! I highly recommend taking the seaplane too. I was able to snag a last-minute seat on the 2 pm flight and the ferry was leaving right as we got there, so it was like I had the whole place to myself for the most part! The half day was enough time to see the highlights but I could have spent all day roaming around the fort and another day just snorkeling! Whether you get there by air or by sea, just get there!

We took the plane ride to the island and spent a half day there. The flight in was fantastic as the pilot explained so much during the ride and you could see all sort of wildlife from the air as well as some really unique views of different locations along the way. We spent a couple hours walking around the fort and then an hour snorkeling. It was well worth the visit but would recommend just the half day if your looking to save costs in the flight.

Fort Jefferson should be on everyone's go to list. An abandoned fort on an Island miles away from civilization? Yes please! This is not a Disney experience and it is expensive but worth every penny. It is also a full day experience, but you can explore the fort, enjoy the beach, go snorkeling, and have a full internet free day.

Amazing place! On your way to dry tortugas, you'll see different color of water as the day progress. It is amazing. Snorkeling is a must there and you wont be disappointed. It was a day well spent!

A must do when visiting Key West. Amazing national park, which is the least visited in USA. Tour speaks about the history of the fort and after that there is time to snorkel and swim. There is not much shade or seating other than sitting on the beach so bring seats. When we visited it was significantly colder than Key West. There is a little shop selling souvenirs.
