Highly recommend seeing all the ships at Patriot Point. Two very cool simulations on the Laffey. One in the deck guns and then one inside at the command center. Interesting drone like vehicle as well inside the Laffey. Fair amount of climbing , not as bad the carrier. Also the engine room has some cool interactions as well. High recommend it.

This is a wonderful piece of history. Just to be on board and knowing you are standing in the spot where those heroic men fought and many died was one of the most humbling things I've done. I I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience it with my daughter. We had the honor of meeting Luther Singleton on board. He served on 3 of the ships like the Laffey before retiring. He is a wealth of knowledge and one of the kindest gentlemen I've had the privilege of speaking with. If you visit the Laffey,be sure to ask if Chief Petty Officer Singleton is on board. I believe he volunteers 3 days a week, but it is definitely worth getting to know.

Having previously visited the USS Joseph P Kennedy DD 850 in Fall River, MA and being very disappointed my expectations for the Laffey were not high. Boy was i happily surprised! What really made our visit exceptional was our guide, Chief Bob. I could never ask for a better guide and I was on a destroyer myself in Vietnam. I loved the fact that so many areas like the bridge and inside of the gun mount and the CIC were open and even had awesome videos playing. In 4 years in the Navy I never set foot in the engine room before this. Thank you so much for having an awesome docent like Chief Bob to escort us through the ship. The Kennedy in Fall River is no comparison.

Fascinating story about this relatively small ship. Make sure to watch the video about its glorious fight.

Visiting the Maritime Museum is a great experience for everyone, to much history to learn. Family will always remember this experience.

A great experience. They have a very well marked tour through major sections of the ship for a self guided visit. Not much in the way of handicap accessibility but not sure how they would be able to accommodate accessibility issues on a Navy ship. There are a great number of mockups to show how life on the ship would have been and how it still is on today's Navy ships.

Wonderful historical site to visit. Visited in 2001 during my NNPTC days. Free admission if you wore your uniform. Definitely recommend a visit if you’re in Charleston. 🇺🇸

The volunteers and staff at Patriot's Pointe have done a great job of preserving and maintaining U.S.S. Laffy. We could all, especially the younger generations, learn a lot about what it truly means to be American by a visit to this brave and stubborn ship.

The USS Laffey is a fantastic ship to see! The different exhibits really make you feel how life was like on the ship.

We recently went on a tour of both the Laffey and the Yorktown. The Laffey was definitely the more interesting ship of the two. The story of the Laffey and those who sailed her is absolutely amazing…

It’s an informative and interactive experience. I suggest planning at least 30 minutes with Laffey, and layering clothes during winter time. It’s not heated.

For such a small ship there's way more room inside then I thought. Defiantly climb into the rear turret and press the button inside

This is a good destroyer to tour. It has audio visual portions as well as some interactive areas. It is NOT wheelchair accessible (the Yorktown next door is). If you use a walker, you can tour the main deck if you have someone to help you, but you won't be able to reach the other decks. The person with you will need to help manipulate the walker through the doors and up and down a few steps (you need to go up 3 small steps to get on the plank taking you to the destroyer and then go down 2 steps to get off the plank). You will need to be able to raise each foot about 10 inches to be able to get through the doorways.
