Tasty food, nice heated outdoor seating, friendly staff! Some unique food items in the menu. We and the kids especially enjoyed the chickpea pancakes (Socca). The cocktails are also surprising, most have unusual ingredients in them. If you feel like experimenting, you should try one of their cocktails.

So. Good. This is one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia. An eclectic cocktail list, a rotating duck special, tasteful desserts. Bottom line, the entire menu is just... *chef’s kiss* Cannot recommend the duck specials enough! **UPDATE** More than a year later, TGKT doesn’t fail to dazzle. My partner and I just visited for outdoor dining and it was a phenomenal, comfortable, fantastic experience. Food is just as great as ever, and the cocktails may be even better than ever!! It’s worth noting that we’ve also gotten their burgers for takeout numerous times now, and they’re absolutely amazing. One of my top burgers in Philly no question.

Great outdoor seating on a nice quiet block. Cozy bar/dining room inside with a lovely crowd and friendly staff. The co-owner, Chloe and the manager, Patrick greated us personally as of we were old friends and went above and beyond to create a truly wonderful dining experience. Yes, the food is very good and the cocktails on par, but what distinguishes a great restaurant like this from the rest of the Philly gastropubs is their personal touch and commitment to service excellence. It's one of the few places that seem to genuinely care about their customers and will do everything to make sure that you leave happy, full, and a little tipsy. I highly recommend the Good King... Enjoy!

This little tavern was such a treat. We had fried oysters, the house burger, and the duck confit - all three were absolutely delicious! The oysters were such a perfect combination of textures, plated in-shell with a creamy sauce, the oyster set on top of that, and topped with perfectly salty Ikura. The burger was a moist and savory affair, the confit was perfectly tender, and our wine and cocktail choices (the house red and the Portmanteau cocktail) were both tasty on their own, and a great pairing with the dishes. Our servers were very sweet, and atmosphere-wise, this elevated tavern - though buzzing enough to require a reservation, even on a Monday night - was actually an excellent setting for intimate conversation. We didn't have to scream at each other across the table, but rather could beat each other at reasonable voices alive the music and ambient sounds of the restaurant. Overall, a great little spot that I'll definitely try again. Definitely for drinks at the bar and more fried oysters, and likely for the dinner atmosphere as well.

Front of house staff was wonderful and very accommodating. The place was warm and welcoming and we were so excited to try at 4.7 star French restaurant. Very disappointed when the main dishes came out. It tasted like someone spilled the whole salt shaker in all of our dishes. Not sure if that was a fluke… maybe the regular chef is on holiday break but I’d have to say I would not try again for the price.

Such great French ambiance. The meal by chef Steven and his staff couldn't be any better. Desserts and adult refreshments are stupendous. Great camaraderie by all patrons with an outstanding staff that knows how to present and describe the food being served.

Update from 1 yr ago (5 stars as well). BEST ITS EVER BEEN HERE! I took my old suburban family here for a birthday celebration. They didn’t know what anything on the menu was AT ALL, but good food is good food, and good service is good service. Server was patient explaining cocktails and menu to my clueless family. It was a big hit, and I’m very happy my mom had a great birthday, and her guests had a great time. Everyone raved about food and service. Couldn’t have gone better! Thank you guys so much!!!

Good King is an awesome neighborhood restaurant. I know; I'm from the area, and it is a go-to for me. Folks working there are downright nice + pleasant, atmosphere is friendly + buzzy, and the food will, by itself, make you come back. Nice place; great, hard working folks; one of the privileges of living in a civilized city.

Amazing food & excellent customer service ! They have a second floor upstairs with an additional wine bar ! Such a fun place , we were lucky to get in without reservations near Christmas ! Definitely returning !

I was with a group of four that tried popping in on a Saturday around 8pm, only to get abruptly and rudely turned away by the host. It was clearly a busy night, which we noticed upon walking in the door. We stood at the front to see if there was room; it looked busy and so we asked the host if there was space. The host was incredibly rude and dismissive. Instead of kindly stating there was no capacity and to come back later, the host effectively told us to get out. The phrasing was “we are at capacity, thanks.” The tone was very short and dismissive. As a potential patron I’d expect at least some understanding or empathy while being turned away. I hope they choose to treat customers with more kindness in the future in similar situations.

Eric, great bartender and super attentive even with the crowds barreling in! The rest of the staff were friendly as well! Food and cocktails were excellent, especially the steak tartaré, mussels Marseillaise, and the Cocodiablo cocktail! Will definitely be back!!

Just one of the most lovely places to drink a craft cocktail or quality glass of wine. The food is amazing too - you can’t go wrong with any dish. We love the ambiance and the service and will continue to come back! 😊

We enjoyed our meal here. Good food, good service, not too pretentious. It was a cool neighborhood spot.

Stopped in for dinner and a drink. Best Sazerac north of New Orleans. The French style gnocchi was amazing! Limited menu but that's the best part, everything is top.

Great spot for a bite and cool evening vibes. Even better if suggestion for the chef: Socca (chickpea dish) could go great with a cold sauce on the side maybe lemon dill tzatziki Our waitress, Sarah was very attentive and welcoming. Will be back!

Always love it here. Great vibe, good drinks, tasty food. Just wish they were a little more flexible making some simple changes to make a dish gf - like a sliced apple or lettuce leaf instead of bread 🤷‍♀️. Doesn't stop me going back!

We really enjoyed the drinks and the starters. We also ordered the cheese plate which was delicious. For some reason neither of our entrees really met the beginning standard set. My chicken was dry and my husband's steak tasted like it sat too long. Maybe the kitchen is too small for entrees like that??? Who knows? But the wait staff, the atmosphere, drinks, and starters were absolutely on point and I would definitely recommend then for this.

Have been here many times - never had a disappointing experience. Great ambiance, tasty cocktails, and consistently excellent french bistro fare.

Food is nice, and the cocktails are also interesting. The ingredients were all good, but portions run on the small size - better than waisting food, but this runs a bit too much on the small. Space is *really* crunched, hard to move. A person on a wheelchair would never get in. Waitress a bit impatient for no clear reason.
