A Beautiful Park, just a little over an hour away from Charlotte, NC. Great Park for a quick getaway for some peace, quiet and a refueling of one's own cup. The top of the mountain offers up some tremendous views and ample trails to suit any level of Trail walker. The Bathrooms are kept incredibly clean. Toward the bottom of the mountain you'll find a public boat ramp and if your like Me and don't have your own, they have Canoe rentals and a small assortment of snacks. Check in advance for seasonal operation. Remember to Thank those that keep the Park running clean, safe and smooth. There is a wonderful floating pier to fish off of or to just watch the Canoers fight the wind to get back to the rental pier. There is a lot of BBQ spots to bring your own supplies and cook up a feast. I hope this information is helpful to others in finding a nice place to enjoy a peaceful rest.

I found this hike on the way to a Hornets game in Charlotte. It was a nice way to take a break during the drive and decompress. I wish I would've allowed myself more time but enjoyed the one hour hike I took. There is some road construction going on near the park so I ended up having to make my way to a different entrance than the one Google Maps took me to. Once I was on the park road it was easy to get to the trail heads. I took a mix of the Morrow Mountain and Backpack Trails. Their entrances were near the museum and office parking lot. They were easy going and there was some snow on the ground still so there were some beautiful views. Not too many hills. If I would have had more time I would have found the trail to the summit and took it for the big views but was running out of daylight. The park closes at 7 so I wanted to make sure I made it out in time. It was fun hiking if you ever get close and I'll try to get back some day and give myself more time.

This place has it all! Kayaking, fishing, hiking, history, great views, and much more. This (relatively) hidden gem is only an hour east of Charlotte and well worth a day trip.

Is a great place to go. Many long trails, if parked on top there are trails that you can walk going down around the mountain. Campground, and you can rent a canoe to go out on the river. Fishing, and taking pictures is always good. Pet friendly keep on leash. Not allowed to fly drones. 5 stars for picnic areas. 5 stars for hiking trails. 5 stars for photographers. 5 stars for views. My cat loves going on hikes at Morrow Mountain

Mount Morrow State Park Located in Albemarle, NC in the Uwharrie Forest. A little history-- -600 million years ago, this mountain was part of a collection of volcanic islands. -10k+ years ago, the mountains were inhabited by Sapona, Saura, & Catawba indians who used the nearby Yadkin and Pee Dee Rivers to transport the tools they made from the Rhyolite stone. -Europeans colonized the area in the 1700s and the park opened in 1939. It is named for James McKnight Morrow who donated 1000+ acres. This park offers 14 different trails of varying intensities with most being considered easy or moderate. There is one strenuous trail--the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail-- that you will definitely "feel" on the ascent with some parts of the trail seeming to be almost vertical, but you are able to catch some decent views near the top. Don't forget to save a reserve of energy though, because the hike back up Morrow Mountain Trail is another doozie, even though this trail is marked moderate. My suggestion is to keep your head down focused on your steps and don't pay attention to how much you have left to climb.Your calves and glutes are going to remind you of it anyways.😉 You can also just drive up to the top to see some lovely panoramic views and perhaps enjoy a picnic or catch a sunrise in the winter months. #hiking #nature #getoutdoors #soloadventure

Kudos to Park Ranger badge 238 (sorry I did not get your name!) He saw me walking along the road, not a trail, stopped by, made sure I was alright, offered water, and asked if there was anything wrong on the trail. I highly appreciate his professionalism and care for park patrons and the park alike.

Park is huge and there's a big river where people can swim or they can do other water activities. There are special places where you can grill with your family. Nature is wonderful, you can just enjoy the view. I believe especially when it's autumn. I visited this place at the end of May. It was hot, but still worth to visit.

Been coming here to camp and play since elementary school. Walking the trail alongside the lake to the dam is perfect for casual hiking with family, friends or alone.

This is my first time here and is a good place to enjoy nature. It has hiking trails, camping, fishing, little museum about its rich history. I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to get away for the weekend.

We wanted to go hiking and made our own trail. We followed the side of lake until we came upon a rock, had a picnic, and turn backed. I can't speak for the trail, but the memories will stick. This is a great place for families, couples, or friends. If you want to leave Charlotte, or where ever you are in NC, or you're a tourist... I would recommend this spot, especially for a calm, slow, picutre-taking day.

It is such a beautiful day to come see the views. The trail by the overlook are steep with an incline and no handrails, so just be careful. It’s a beautiful place for a picnic. We love coming here just for the day.

Loving visiting this state park! My favorite thing here is to go kayaking and exploring the lake and it’s secrets! Kayaking is $10 an hour and comes with an orientation and you can buy water from the boathouse for the trip. I highly advise bringing some sunscreen because the lake is going to scorch you even if it’s windy. There are some secret spots you can explore and inlets/ rivers too. There are these hidden lakes that are pretty, you can always get closer to the dam and you can go down river to see the rest of the lake. There is a lot of lake to check out. The hiking trails they have are pretty great too and you can find them in different difficulty levels and ones that take a short time or a long time. There is also group camping, tent camping, primitive camping and RV camping so there are a lot of great things to do here.

As a British man, we hardly have trails like this in England! And wow what a beautiful hiking trail to experience! Definitely recommend walking up the mountain for the experience rather than just driving up for the view. It's worth the walk! Seeing all the beauty that covers the mountain, the streams, different trees and the wildlife! Luckily the trees provide plenty of shade so you've not got to worry about sunburn

Always enjoy a hike at Morrow Mountain. There are many options both longer and shorter treks, boat ramps into the Pee Dee, and horse trails. Definitely take a drive up to the peak for the view!

Awesome place for anyone. Great access for all abilities and beautiful views all around the summit. Great bathroom facilities and awesome picnic options and even charcoal grills all over. Hiking trails are great as well. Definitely worth stopping by and checking out especially in the fall.

Did a new years day hike here and took the morrow mountain trail (2.5miles long one way) up to see the view. It‘s a really nice landscape there and the views are great, bet even better in spring or fall. Last half mile of the hike gets pretty steep so you should be at least a bit fit to manage this trail. Only aspect I didn’t like, encountered a few of leash dogs running up to us and our dog - this should not happen since there is a rule to keep your dogs on a leash and not everyone is comfortable with unknown dogs running up to them in the woods.

Campground was quiet and campsites we're far enough apart. No water at sites though. Hiking trails and boat rental available but no other activities unless you have your own horse. Dump station water hose could not be used to rinse tank as a hose could not be attached to it. It wasn't long enough to reach the rinse port either. One nice amenity was the camp hosts delivered fire wood direct to our site.

Morrow Mountain has a great history and is a wonderful place to hike. It offered a variety of trails from easily to difficult. I enjoy that they still have WPA built structures on hand as my grandfather built many for the the national and state parks in those days. Highly recommended.

Clean and lovely lake-front park with a swimming pool, camping, kayak rentals, boat ramp, walking trails, bridal trails, small museum, and a great view from the top of a small mountain. It's dog-friendly, there are plenty of picnic tables, the restrooms are clean, and all the facilities that I saw were even handicap-accessible.

This is a lovely day trip to make if you’re anywhere within a couple hours away. The fall of course is one of the best times to visit, but we’ve been all seasons and it’s still beautiful. There’s a look out area and several trails. Some shorter trails and others that are longer. There are a few tables and a covered sheltered seating area. There are public restrooms and dogs are allowed.

We stayed in the campground and hiked most of the trails. My favorite trails were the sugarloaf mountain trail and the rocks trail. I also liked the fall mountain trail although it was a bit more crowded. The quarry trail was a cute short hike. It would probably be perfect for families. The bridle trail was closed while we were there. The campground was pretty nice with a nice flat place to set up the tent, a picnic table, and a fire pit. There were also showers and restrooms close by.

This place has an amazing view with several incredible trails but wouldn't take young kids on the hiking trails even the easy ones have some rough spots. But all in all fantastic place to take the family to see a very beautiful view going back at sunset for better pictures.

11-22-20 Not as crowded as other state parks and not as scenic either. But still awesome. Have done both the Morrow Mountain and Sugarloaf (Backpack Trail leads to both) starting at the museum and office. Morrow Mountain trail is probably the better one for scenery as it takes you to the viewing summit. It is labeled as moderate but it is 2.5 miles one way. So if you did a return, do the math. That's a ton of walking. Some bridges and streams but not many. Sugarloaf Trail is definitely strenuous. Steep. Uneven. Narrow. Slippery at spots. You name it. Tough. Would not recommend after rain. This trail also loops by the main road that leads to the Morrow Mountain parking area. Either side you take on it is killer. Not for everyone. The Morrow Mountain Parking lot is huge, has the summit, and an awesome shelter in Shelter A. Picnic area with bathrooms are here. Park office has some keepsakes for sale, maps, etc. I think this is a 4-star hike but the 5th star is for how well labeled the trails are. Best I've seen in a state park in NC. There was some burning smell and trees down from burning. Not smokey but did smell. If this bothers you, then come at a different time.

Another place to scratch off my places to see in the Carolinas bucket list before we move! There is soooooo much history I didn't know about on this mountain and I've lived in NC my whole life and its only an hour away from Charlotte. The park is HUGE! I went with my five year old so I didn't get to see as much of the park as I wanted because anyone with kids know you don't want to be stuck on a trail far away from the car with a tired child so we just explored a small part of this beautiful mountain. I definitely want to go back and see more of it! Please excuse the pictures with emojis, as my son is underage I prefer to not post pictures of him publicly. There were a few old trees that have fallen over that my son was obsessed with. I didn't take many pictures because we really didn't stay long. I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Love this place lots of childhood memories here and some with my oldest son. They are renovating everything should be awesome when they are finished. We can't wait to see the finished product and make more memories.

A wonderful balanced camp ground...the primitive areas are lightly maintained but still native ...the restrooms are well taken care of....water pressure at the camp sites is ample.... Trails are well marked but natural... Spacing is reasonable in the group campsites... Overall this is a very desirable site for families and solo campers.... I definitely recommend... My group is planning several more trips already...

Had so much fun with my son hiking the easy trails! The only complaint I had was that the road signs on the way in don't help much with finding the trails you want. Got turned around a few times before I figured out where I was.

Beautiful State Park! Visited several times. If you want less crowds, go during the week. The popular spot is the lookout point at the end of the drive up. There are clean restrooms there. That is also where the trailheads are for a couple of the hiking trails. The "Loop" trail is nice and easy going, but be careful as there are small rocks everywhere that can be a little unstable at times. You get some really pretty views along the way. Other trails are more challenging.

Great place to visit. Alot of hiking trails and has lake access for boats and fishing. They redone the rest rooms on top of the mountain and they are really nice. They also built an over look up top that has great views.

Hike or drive to the top of Morrow. I’d recommend hiking Hattaway clockwise and Sugarloaf counter clockwise, both go straight up! White triangle trail was overgrown, just stay on the campground road to access the long loop by the septic area behind campsite 54 in loop B. They have “you are here” maps posted along the trails at intersections to help navigate.

Tall trees, steep hairpin bend, beautiful views from the overlook, trails on top of the mountain, twisted roads down to the lake, trails around the lake, cabins to stay overnight; what else is needed. Wonderful mountain with all possible things, elevation is good enough to immerse oneself into amazing views of nature.

Took the Bridal Short Loop and really enjoyed the scenery! Watch out for horse droppings because there’s a lot along the way. I only wish the parking lot sign on the trail was bigger or brighter colored (it’s small and dark red with black writing). My friend and I totally missed it and ended up doing the trail twice. We know better for next time!
