My boyfriend and I came to visit Southern Grace Distilleries from Virginia. We were a little bit skeptical about going to a distillery that was previously a prison but I am surely glad that we went. DAKOTA/GEORGIA (insider 🤣) was our tour guide... She was very knowledgeable about the prison campus and took her time answering all of our questions about the processes! Not only was she extremely knowledgeable but she was personable and that's a huge plus for us! Everyone there was pretty kind actually!!! I definitely give Southern Grace a 5⭐️ and if I am ever in town again, I will come back! Thank you Southern Grace and VIRGINIA for all your hospitality!

Whiskey tasting was amazing! The single barrel had a great flavor with vanilla and caramel undertones. The ghost tour afterwards was 10/10. Spooky grounds and great history. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Went to the behind the bars whiskey prison tour. They bought a minimum security prison in 2016 and turned it into a distillery. Our guide Gene was awesome. $14 each. Really enjoyed. Recommend!

Local distillery that is run out of an old prison. Super cool place with an amazing staff. Make sure you do the tour! Definitely worth buying a bottle or 2 of bourbon from the gift shop.

This was a very unique experience! The tour remained interesting throughout and it was cool to see prison integration into various aspects of the distillery. The music was great (will make sense on the tour!). During tasting, we were able to toast local military members that have the ultimate sacrifice and to keep their memory alive. The bourbon had a great flavor and I'll be back. Give it a shot as it's the perfect way to spend a couple hours.

Lovely distillery with great products! We did the private Barrel room tour and tried all the good stuff! I highly recommend this tour. Great staff and lovely and knowledgeable CEO who actually gives the barrel house tour, very relaxed atmosphere to just drink bourbon and learn about the product. You forget you're in a jail...lol.

Great! Guide was awesome and staff was friendly and helpful! We loved that you could take drinks on the tour too! The only thing we wished we heard was more history on the actual prison too but we understand that their main priority is their liquor! We will definitely be recommending this place to friends and visitors!

The guide, bourbon, drinks & distillery were great. You should come visit for yourself but make a reservation online. At the time we visited it was for 14 dollars, and included a bourbon flight at the end. Drinks, prison swag, and entire bottles are available for purchase. Prices, bottles, and drinks may change as they are newer distillery & currently offer a 4 yr aged bourbon along with other corn whiskey items.

This was probably one of my favorite distillery tours I've ever done. The history of the property is really cool and the spirits are awesome - both paranormal and drinkable :) The tour guide, Ben, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly so we were kindof sad when the tour was over. Definitely don't skip this place if you're traveling through the area (or make a trip there if you aren't)!

Worth the visit, both tour and tastings. Interesting past life as prison. Relatively small operation but lots of stock aging. Four tastes at end, all good. Tour guide was fun and easy to hear.

We took a day tour at Southern Grace Distillery, and it was incredible. The history of it being a prison til 2011 and then Southern Grace taking over after it closed. We also got to go back at night for a paranormal investigation

My boyfriend and I did the Distillery tour this past weekend. It was a lot of fun and quite interesting. Who knew we had such good bourbon in a small little town just outside of Union County! The cocktails were amazing!

This is a really neat place to tour and taste. Tours happen throughout the day, but calling to verify is a good idea. The tour takes you through the old prison and gives you dome history as well as some facts about the distilling process. When arriving, it's hard to really notice the entrance. When looking at the space, you park in front ot the "house" and enter through the gates. If you pass the church, you've gone too far.

Saw their website stating they were operating out of an old prison. We just had to stop by to see the place and explore the history behind Southern Grace Distillery. Well... it really is a former state prison, complete with chain link fence and razor wire! Proprietors say this helps protect their product. Enjoyed hearing the history behind this business enterprise. Had a tasting conducted by Master Distiller, Sebastian Correa. A graduate of ASU, BS in Fermentation Science. He is easy to talk to and happy to share his knowledge of the whiskeys and bourbons made on site. He shared how the barrels, made in Virginia, add different "notes" to the whiskeys, bourbons, and the Naranja; distinct flavors are derived from whether the aging barrels were toasted or charred. Tasted the new "limited" release "Naranja" orange wine (bourbon whiskey finished in a vino de narnja cask barrel with orange peels). Highly recommend both the Naranja AND stopping by this distillery.

The "bar" staff was incredibly friendly, the tour guide I had kept it energetic, answered any and all questions the people around me had, and the lady doing the tasting afterwards was very knowledgeable of what she was serving.
