Wow! This was my first Hostel stay/experience and I truly don't want to leave. Upon check-in, I had the pleasure of meeting Joe who I assume is an owner. He showed me around, gave the feeling of being home away from home. This includes great parking, open kitchen with a snack and drinks bar,, available around the clock.. Laundry services is available and is handled with great care and done with top of the line equipment. Every touch and inch of this place is with excellent quality and detail. Super cool art from local artist is displayed in perfect places yet not at all congested within the modern feel and look. The sleeping spaces felt very private as they fulfill having your own space and ability to just tuck away from everything. My hopes is anyone who stays here helps support this wonderful place, while also helping to preserve it's greatness. Clean, amazing, quality, comfort, calm, convenient and economical. I will be back as soon as possible! Thanks a million!

I had the chance to stay at the Modal hostel last week and was so impressed with the experience I felt like I needed to write a review. The first thing that strikes you upon entering the building is how clean and modern the overall aesthetic is. At the same time, it also feels cozy and intimate. Having spent a lot of time in some really grungy hostels, this place was a breath of fresh air. In terms of amenities, I was blown away to have received my own towel and vanity kit upon arrival and the rooms themselves are really nice. Beds were super comfortable and each bunk had multiple plugs and a large locker that lock with your key card. The shared spaces were just as high quality; huge kitchen with modern appliances, dining table and all the tools you would need to make meals. If you’re a lazy bum like me, there is even a continental breakfast every morning of fruit, bagels and granola bars etc. Above all else, the people that work there are very nice and genuine. You can tell they care deeply about the overall experience and wanted to make this place something special. Pair all that with a downtown location and very affordable rates. I’ll most definitely be back. Thanks y’all!

Our ladies' cycling group went to Greenville, SC for some fun and cycling - in the middle of a pandemic! The facility was perfect! Everyone felt safe... the place was clean...and the beds were crazy comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed, and the staff perfectly attentive. We will be back. Great location. Great amenities. And a great place for a group get together.

Modal is a very unique and special kind of hostel. It is beautifully designed, extremely comfortable and a home away from home. You will meet some very interesting people that will probably become your friends and the owner, Joe, really makes everyone feel like they are part of a intimate community. For anyone traveling to Greenville, I can’t recommend this hotel enough!

This place is exceptional. I’ve been here once before and this is the only place I want to stay in Greenville. It’s clean, it’s friendly, it’s incredibly affordable, the kitchen is big and fully stocked with dishes! (I cook a lot and love when I can on the road), and there are lots of spaces to work, chat, rest, and more. Breakfast and a cup of coffee included in the mornings is truly appreciated, delicious and fresh! If you’ve never tried staying in a hostel, try this place! It’s one of the nicest hostel I’ve ever stayed in and cannot recommend it highly enough. I met Joe this time and I can tell he cares about his guests and creating not only a safe haven to rest, but also crafting a good vibe for creatives, travelers, and adventurers from all over. Book your stay here and I bet you’ll love it as much as I do!

My partner and I did a group buyout of Modal for our wedding and we couldn't have been happier. It was the perfect place to provide accommodations for 20 of our out-of-town guests. They loved the fun vibes and took advantage of everything Modal had to offer. In the mornings they would gather in the kitchen and enjoy a coffee from the coffee bar; in the evenings they would grab a beer from one of the three taps offering local craft beers and then head to the outdoor patio to hang out and enjoy the drinks. And because our buyout lasted 5-days, everyone was very excited that laundry service was an option. Our guests were also pleased with the location. Even without a car our guests were able to explore all of downtown Greenville. Working with the staff and the owner (Joe) was a breeze. My partner and I were supported before, during, and after our buyout. We really can't recommend Modal enough. If you're looking for accommodations for a wedding or another event — take a look at Modal!

I’ve stayed here twice now and absolutely love it. I live 5 minutes away so I could easily stay home but Modal is a perfect staycation away from home. The owner is super friendly and very nice. He’s there if you need any assistance or just want to strike up a great conversation. The space is uniquely designed and offers several sitting areas as well as a few games to play. They’re also several really cool art books, cabin and design books, and other cool reads. It’s an inviting place to just sit back and hang out at. I encourage anyone looking for a different type of stay to go here and enjoy the common areas and the bar area for some afternoon beers and early morning coffee! I’ll definitely be staying again soon.

I stayed at Modal during my short solo trip to Greenville. The location is perfect: it was less than 10 minutes away from the baseball stadium and dining. Michaela (the hostess) was very friendly and made an excellent dinner recommendation. The bed was so soft and comfy. I appreciated that the locker worked with the room key. I would totally stay here again.

My first hostel stay as well, and a real treat! So comfortable (a little cool at night but lots of comfy bedding to snuggle), and lots of common spaces - inside and out - to move around for private activities as well as opportunities for amazing conversations. All facilities well kept, convenient; I can't say enough about the staff & management. Thank you all for a terrific 5 day stay.

Well the location is very ideal if you dont have a car. Everything within 1.5 miles by foot 2 grocery stores, the town center, minor league ball park, tons pubs breweries and so forth. The hostel is very new. Great kitchen with all tools u would need. Rooms are great with nice thick warm blankets. Staff and owners are awsome they have a nice cafe going here to try some specialty coffees in. The breakfast included was awsome natural oat meal bread fruits etc. Tons of space to sit in and do nomad work. I feel really for a accident I had there first night glad i was able to provide what needed to fix it and thankful for the owner to allow back after I got better. Very relaxed setting very clean very social very tasty and great location. Would like to return again soon.

A peaceful space with warm and welcoming hospitality. The affordable price doesn’t sacrifice style. The Junto Coffee is outstanding. Try the Either Or latte. It’s a hug in a cup. Modal is a unique gem in Greenville, SC. If you’re visiting, it’s a perfect place to stay. If you live in Greenville, it’s the best cup of coffee in town.

Super rad space. filled with local art, a coffeeshop, kitchen, work spaces. Really close to downtown GVL. The bathroom is big, clean, and unlimited hot water, the pod that I slept in was beyond comfortable and the security locker next to the bed gives you peace of mind. Affordable and beautiful! worth the stay and would do it again!!

We loved our stay at Modal. The check in process was very easy, and everyone was friendly and helpful. We received a tour, upon arrival. This was helpful for knowing which doors to use in the evening, and for pointing out the shared bathrooms, and other common spaces. The common areas were spacious and clean. We stayed in the dorm area, in one set of bunk beds. The room was well put together, and I didn't feel as though anyone was right on top of each other. There was plenty of space to move around, and to access your storage locker. Our beds were very comfortable, and included curtains that blocked the majority of the light. They also provided ear plugs to block out the noise of the other guests. Everything is very aesthetically pleasing. I would 100% stay here again, and would recommend Modal to anyone looking for a fun place to stay in Greenville.

Really great facilities! I was definitely expecting much less and was absolutely floored at the quality of everything and the attention to detail they had. The communal areas were warm and welcoming, the art was a great! The bed was VERY comfortable, I felt that my belongings were secure and the bathroom/shower was out of this world for a hostel! I would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Had a wonderful stay at Modal this weekend. The pictures do not do the place enough justice. It is gorgeously designed, the staff was incredible, and you can really get a great sense of its personality. My partner and I stayed in one of the private rooms, but I can definitely see me booking one of the shared rooms for a friend getaway in the future. If you are on the fence about staying at a hostel, don't be and just book your trip. You won't regret it.

From the first day we found MODAL, the design & vibe of this amazing place was the inspiration for our entire wedding! We rented the whole place out for our wedding weekend so all of our closest friends & family could stay at the "party house" with the bride and groom and it was an amazing way to bring everyone closer together. We couldn't imagine a better way to have everyone together to enjoy breakfast together, lunch & lounging, beverages from the bar and coffees etc. for the whole weekend. Upstairs was perfect to bunk the boys and for the quintessential "guys-getting-ready-with-the-groom" part of the day (and photo moments!) and the same went for the separate, private rooms downstairs for the girls to keep the bride hidden while accommodating hair and makeup artists, friends, photographers, dress display, and more. Joe (the owner) and his great staff were SO helpful and accommodating when it came to logistics and possibilities for transforming the whole place from lounge to dining hall - and then to dance hall for the reception! Anything we needed-they were there and they NEVER made us feel weird about changing or moving anything to meet our needs. The beds were EXTREMELY comfy for all our guests to get the best night's sleep. The beer/wine/coffee bar met all of our beverage needs (including the prosecco toast!) and we were able to bunk 25+ guests for the whole weekend at a price that just would never have been possible anywhere else. MODAL offered everything we needed to make our wedding possible within the budget we had to work with (accommodations for our closest guests all in one place, beer/wine/coffee bar, lounge/party space, full use of well equipped kitchen, beautiful outdoor areas to gather, and more).. We literally couldn't have had the wedding of our dreams anywhere else!

My friend and I absolutely loved Modal! Joe was there when we checked in and since it was our first stay, he took the time to show us around. The space is so great and you can tell every detail was handpicked. Will absolutely stay again!

Modal. Just the name is intriguing and sparks a conversation, but I will let you search the significance and what is behind the name with the friendly, courteous, and conscientious staff members at Modal. My stay here was such a delight and accommodating, from arrival to departure, the vibes and hospitality made me feel at home, extraordinary to say the least. Granted that it’s considered to be hostel, but its nothing like any hostel I have been to, immaculate, clean, and pristine at every corner I turned to and the numerous lounge areas they have to offer makes your stay feel like home away from home. I was not expecting my stay to be as great as it was, the images of Modal found on the web doesn’t do justice to the gem that Modal has to offer. Will stay here over any Ritz, not because of the price tag but the experience behind it. Modal, thank you for catering to all my needs and making my stay pleasant. Till next time. See you all soon.

Modal is NOT your average hostel! It's so clean, trendy, and luxurious. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the space doubles as a gallery for local artists! It's a stellar value for the cost and I'd highly recommend it to anyone!

I barely stayed here for one night because I was just passing through town, so I really can't speak to the location. The rooms, bathroom, and common area were very clean and comfortable. Great price. The only complaint I have was that I booked the four bed female dorm with the bunk beds. I KNOW I booked a bottom bunk, because I am a bigger girl and I knew I would have trouble with the top bunk. I arrived late and was the last to arrive for the room and they told me I was on the top bunk. I couldn't prove it because the confirmation email you receive when you book doesn't specify the bunk, but the choice IS on the website. It was disappointing and extremely difficult for me to get into the top bunk. It was embarrassing. I felt that I was trapped because there was no way I was getting up there twice. Luckily I woke up at 4am and just got on the road. Please give people what they book.

I stayed here for just one night, but I wish I could have been there longer. Joe was absolutely wonderful. He was all too helpful before I even made it to the hostel. All of the amenities were top notch and the rooms were oh so clean. There are so many little touches to show that Joe and team value their guests and their space. Believe me, this is a wonderful place to be at in Greenville. I cannot recommend Modal enough.

Modal was the perfect place to stay for my boyfriend and I traveling to Greenville. We booked the private room with a queen bed and private bathroom. It was over $100 cheaper than the hotels in the area. The room was small but it had everything we needed. Easy to come and go as we pleased. Easy check in. Super clean. Quiet at night. Super quick drive to downtown or walk if you’re feeling it! I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

I decided to see a weeknight show at the Peace Center and didn't want to deal with driving more than an hour back home late at night by myself...nor did I want to pay $100+ for a one night hotel room I wouldn't spend too much time in. Enter: Modal! TBH...I wish I had planned on spending more time there! The staff was kind, the bed was comfy, and the storage area was large and secure. Parking was easy and convenient. There were multiple sinks and bathrooms to access. I didn't get up in time for breakfast, but the kitchen was spacious and well stocked with some drinks and snacks that could be purchased anytime. The back deck was delightful and where I will definitely be spending some time next time I visit. I wish there were a little more separation between the cafe area and some of the rooms, but given the open time for the cafe, it's not too big of a deal, especially for the price. I will be back! :)

I've stayed in hostels all over Europe and South America, and this was the best I've ever been to. Almost like a hotel at a rock bottom price. Artsy decor, coffee bar, clean secure property , lockers activated by your card so no need for your own lock. Close to downtown and minutes from the minor league stadium.

  • 5/5 Phoenix S. 10 months ago on Google
I loved my stay at Modal. Super clean, lovely common areas, large deck looking over a large green space. The only thing I would change is making it a slight bit warmer. The AC was a bit much so I had to dress in layers.

  • 5/5 Jay P. 10 months ago on Google
Modal was exactly what I wanted - a modern hostel at a super affordable price with good vibes and a pretty convenient location to downtown Greenville (about a 20 minute walk). I would highly recommend if you're a single traveler looking for affordable accommodation or a group just wanting to try something new.

  • 5/5 Katherine E. 1 year ago on Google
I love the aesthetic of Modal, and the shower was the most amazing ever. I booked a private room with my husband while we were in town working. Very nice. Super comfortable bed and pillows. The natural light window up high did leave it a bit bright for sleeping, so I'd use an eye cover if you're sensitive to that. Great staff, coffee shop and common areas.

We had a wonderful stay at Modal. We stayed one night in a private room with our own bathroom. It was stylish and modern. We loved the artwork and everyone was friendly. Would definitely stay there again!

  • 5/5 Christine M. 5 months ago on Google
This is definitely one of the better hostels I've stayed at. The bedding and mattresses are very comfortable, and the bunk curtains help to give you a little privacy. I didn't have any issues with noise, however I always use ear plugs at hostels (just in case). Staff was nice and very accommodating. Location is fantastic (less than half a mile from Gather Greenville and just a little over a mile walk to downtown). It was nice to wake up, cook some eggs, and order my morning latte without having to put on real pants.

  • 4/5 Laine R. 4 months ago on Google
We checked in late, staff was helpful. The location was very close to a lot & parking in the back was convenient to back door. I wish there had been a way to enter the parking lot from the front. Turing left on a slight curve is stressful. The room was great, sleeping in bunk beds was a much enjoyed throwback however I wish there had been something else to hold on too once I got to the top stair. There was also a dip in the bathroom floor that felt a bit unsafe. I wanted to mention this to staff but we left before the shop opened. Everything else was on point & very clean! I would def stay here again!

  • 4/5 Amy N. 4 months ago on Google
I would give a 4.5 stars. The location is fantastic, close to all things downtown Greenville. The rooms are very well done, beds are comfortable, private bath was very nice and clean. The only complaint I have is the quite hours 10-7 are not enforced so at 1:30 am I was still awake due to other guest that were loud in the common area. Also, wasn't aware that there was only 1 comp coffee, but 2 people in my party, so it was a little awkward ordering 2 not realizing I was going to be charged for one. It was good, it just wasn't explained well. I would still stay here again.

  • 5/5 Jackson van r. 5 months ago on Google
Great stay for the price! cozy bed with curtains that allows me to feel like I'm in my own space up in there. Friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately the sound travels easily through the halls, and I am a light sleeper, so I was woken up by people returning to the hostel late at night and waking up to make breakfast early in the morning - if you're a deep sleeper, this wouldn't be a problem

I had a very good week at the Greenville Modal, from the moment I walked in with my reservation I was kindly greeted. My dorm bed was very clean and cozy. The locker was large and electronically lockable. The guests were very nice. I felt safe, and my car parked on site was safe, better than regular motels. The staff was helpful and friendly. Thursdays they had a very nice gathering with music and art gallery. I enjoyed my stay and recommend for anyone needing a good place to stay. They even have a barista to serve up coffee!

Amazing coffee shop!! Love the vibe. Hosted a party here and it was a HIT! Guests loved the venue and the beverages. Can't say enough great things about this place or the staff. It is a beautiful spot of hospitality in our little town!!!

  • 5/5 Jarrett S. 3 years ago on Google
Great art. Great people. Great everything. Even better coffee. It's dismissive to call Modal a hostel. It's something else.

  • 5/5 Emily R. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful space, full of plants, sunlight, and art. My coffee shop experience left nothing to be desired, and I look forward to returning during each visit to Greenville, SC. Full of intentional design and creativity, the coffee shop is a wonderful place to sit and work or chat. And, be sure to view the art! The owner, Joe, thoughtfully curates each piece, and has a unique gallery space showcasing rotating collections - you’d be missing out to pass over this new, Greenville gem! Oh, and last, but certainly not least: the barista makes delightful coffee drinks- a wholly perfect experience.

Modal was our first hostel experience. We are a middle aged couple who are particular about the cleanliness and quality of where we choose to stay. These accommodations far exceeded our expectations. Joe has created not only a comfortable space, but a well designed & stylish gallery & coffee shop in the mix. The kitchen is well equipped and provides a great social space. Joe & his staff are extremely attentive. The location is convenient to the downtown area. Hands down the best place we have stayed in Greenville over the last 3 years!

  • 5/5 Jimmy E. 3 years ago on Google
A phenomenal experience! Modal feels like a luxury boutique hotel - fantastic design, well-thought out details, and luxury amenities. We chose a four person room with an en-suite bathroom - it was perfect for our friends weekend away.

I am always amazed and dumbfounded when I walk into Modal. The time, energy, and love put into creating this unique hostal are in every inch of the place. The creativity and clean aesthetic is definitely my favorite. Any time I run across someone who needs a place to stay, I smile really big as I describe Modal and insist that they book their visit!

Really cool, unique place to stay. Excellent location and the attention to detail in the design and service was great. Only downside was that the clerestory window in the room allowed an excessive amount of light from the streetlights into the room, making it more difficult to fall asleep.

Amazing! Very stylish and comfortable. A perfect option if you're looking for a spot to stay in downtown Greenville, with better style and at 1/4 of the cost of hotels downtown. We stayed for 1 night in the single queen room in Nov 2020, and it seemed like we had all of Modal to ourselves for the evening. There was an exterior door at the end of our hall, so we could easily get in and out of the building without needing to pass through any common areas. And any time we were in a common area with staff, they all work masks. Very socially-distant safe. Wonderful amenities in-room, and anything else you could need on-site. Beautiful, fully equipped kitchen with new appliances are available for use. Great location, very close to downtown. Can easily walk to Fluor Field, Gather Greenville, Eighth State Brewery, Brick St Cafe, or any other number of places downtown.

I booked MODAL for a food/lifestyle shoot for a major publisher. Joe was incredibly accommodating, the kitchen was amazing, the rooms (we rented one for Talent holding) were AWESOME, he was even flexible with a last minute request to shoot in the Sunroom area. He made us delicious coffee and brews from the new coffee bar and I cannot WAIT to come back. I've already referred the space to several other productions coming into the area for housing.

Modal is a rare gem in the bedrock of hostels. Sparkling clean, stylish, and filled with light, love, and hospitality. Delicious breakfast. My partner, Joe, and I were in Greenville for the day and lost our keys. After back tracking our steps, we found them, but realized the day was getting late and we were tired. The drive home felt unlikely, so I searched for hotels, inns, and hostels in the area. Hotels were expensive, inns were full, but Modal immediately answered the phone and assured us two beds in the bunk room would be waiting. When we arrived, Joe at Modal greeted us warmly, showed us around the hostel, and made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. Pluses: Art space, design, welcoming to travelers, and Queer space. Everything to love.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay. It was cleaned, neat, and personal. The staff was accommodating with their recommendations for our anniversary dinner. Whenever I return to Greenville, South Carolina, this will be my permanent vacation stay, over hotels.

This is a very interesting concept. Hostel averaging $81 a nite/ a bunk $35 a nite plus tax at 813 Augusta Rd. Free breakfast, Free WiFi, Free cancellation, Free Parking. Can purchase Coffee and Snacks. I can actually see hospital/medical personal renting a space to rest instead of driving all the way home and having to work an early shift the next day. Conveniently located. Great for you Student Nurses and Resident Doctors. Can use the WiFi to study. Handicapped accessible. Air Conditioned. 🛌
