This historic cabin made of cypress logs still stands the 80+ years of time. Has served as school, community center, home to Boy Scout Troops and recovery meetings. Massive coquina fireplace centered along on long wall, two wagon wheel chandeliers light the room all contribute to the feeling of pioneer days in Pinellas.

Great relaxing place to hangout. We go out on the lake to ride around. It has become cleaner over the last few months of dredging. The water smell much fresher.

Today our adventures took us to a place in St. Pete called Discover Florida Tours. This is the remains of an Indian villiage that has saved and documented by a family and they are amazing. The guy that does the tour is so knowledgeable about the history of the tribe and the area and the land and especially the plants that they grow on the property. The best part of the whole experience was that this place has been in his family for 3 generations. They have done well to honor the poeple that were living there hundreds of years ago and it was definitely worth coming to see. Also the property is beautiful and they have tons of free roaming peacocks as well. The tour is guided and he lets you ask questions and its very personal. It was a wonderful experience!

A group of 3 of us had a wonderful time today at Discover Florida. The grounds are wild and beautiful and nature as it should be! It is so peaceful and there is an air of sacredness to the property. David the tour guide is a natural born teacher and since he grew up on the property and his family still lives there he seems to have a deep connection to the history there. Very informative and entertaining tour! Loved it and would recommend it to anyone young and old

Amazing and eye opening experience of true Florida. 100% recommend. Hundreds of years of pure Floridian native and Spanish history and culture culminated on a sizable property. Very pleasant tour guide and so much to learn and take in.

Awesome park with miles of walking/jogging or biking in a really scenic area. There are covered seating areas next to small lakes & ponds for functions like birthdays, weddings, etc & of course Lake Seminole with its boat ramp, awesome fishing(from a boat). We go here daily to jog and bike, highly recommended.

  • 4/5 Epic V. 3 years ago on Google
Great park overall, Lake has gators and such so be aware with kids and your pets. Kids park can get crowded but is often times calm and offers a great assortment of stuff they can play on. πŸ‘

  • 3/5 Sarah C. 3 years ago on Google
The park has a 2-mile multi-use trail (jogging, hiking, bicycling/inline skating) that winds through a pine flatwoods. A 1-mile cut-off is available for those less vigorous. Lake Seminole affords hours of pleasure for boaters, jet skiers, water-skiing, fishing, etc. A softball field and volleyball courts are available on a first come, first served basis. Benches and swings are strategically situated for relaxing views of the several ponds and the lake.

Beautiful natural landscape palm trees, pines and majestic oaks dripping with spanish moss. Playgrounds and bbq grills. If you're lucky an elusive alligator will slither up to you and ask if it can eat your dog. What a treat!

There's Really Nowhere To Fish The Main Body Of Water, Also Depending On You Personally, You Absolutely Need To Take Friends With You. But When I Did Leave, I Had Three Vehicles Following Me, As In Civilians. So, If You're Into Not Feeling Safe w/ No Fish Bitin', Go For It. I Wouldn't Advise It Though.

Lovely park with tons of pavilion and parking areas, restrooms, SHADE, and the main draw - a 2 mile paved walking trail with a convenient 1 mile loop built in. The trail is almost completely in shade, at least during the morning I was there. That alone is pure awesomeness in Florida. Pretty wilderness spots and lots of waterfronts. As always, Pinellas County offers VERY high quality parks. Thank you to the workers who make it happen.

Love, love, love this park! It is on Lake Seminole so there are plenty of boats, jet ski activities. Lots of beautiful trails and very serene. You can choose the one mile or the two mile trail. It is a HUGE park (250 acres) and one of the BEST in Pinellas Park. My dog and I have a great time walking the paths, with plenty of benches, a gazebo, an old fashioned bench swing and lots of nature sounds along the way.

We have had Jungle Prada on our to do list for several years. Yesterday, we finally did it! The tour was really wonderful. David is a fountain of knowledge about the early history of Florida, the explorers who came here and, of course, the Tocobaga Indians. The grounds are very tropical and beautiful. Peacocks, peacocks, peacocks!!! There are so many. If you are lucky they will display their gorgeous feathers to attract the peahens. We highly recommend this as a must do! Thank you, David, for a lovely afternoon.

I went to this place with a friend to check out some local Florida history and I was very impressed by the grounds and the tour guide David was fantastic! He has an obvious passion for the topic of St Pete history which was evident in the way he told our group captivating stories. One of the women that worked their (I believe she was related to David) was tearing up as she talked about what the place meant to her. I recommend checking out Discover Florida Tours for a taste of history.

I stumbled upon Discover Florida Tours in Oct 2017 as I was driving thru Pasadena & the Jungle area and noticed signs for this new and burgeoning career path for David Anderson. David was just closing up the property after completing that day’s tours and he was so gracious and endearingly friendly. We briefly chatted about my plans to sign up for a future tour when he suggested I purchase a Groupon and save money!! For a business owner to actually be looking out for my savings seemed uncommonly genuine and refreshing! Two weeks later was my first tour. I enjoyed it so much that I've been back probably 8-9 times. I typically bring one or two friends that share a passion for Florida/St Pete History; a love of gardening & plants or merely enchantment with the outdoors and natural beauty and wildlife. Each of these three topics is amply available in the 90 minute slow paced walking tour, unveiled through a medley of wonderful stories, personal anecdotes and historical photos. Immersed and entwined below the canopy of live oaks and a myriad of other trees and vines, David is a natural story teller and steward of this magical, timeless oasis of beauty that he grew up in… a beauty second only to the magnificent peacocks that criss cross the brick road and winding paths while frequently strutting and flashing their glimmering plumage. Every guest that I’ve taken has been more than delighted! This weekend I invited my entire street of neighbors... all 10 of us easily escaped the restraints of time and the rumble of ParK Street traffic as David guided us thru the last 5 centuries of remarkable explorers and amusing St Pete timeless personalities that have all left their indelible mark on our wonderful city . Today the peacocks were out in full brilliant color, more than on any tour so far! The pittance charged for this colorful and most memorable experience makes this one of the most affordable and wonderful experiences you can enjoy here. I am confident David will educate, entertain and enchant you and your family or friends with zest, charm and amazing information!. You won't be disappointed!!!! ~StuART

A wonderful way to learn about local history and plant life. Not to mention the beautiful peacocks that roam the property. David is a great guide and goes the extra mile to answer all questions. I highly recommend a visit to this place.

I purchased this Discover Florida Tour as a gift & I wasn't sure what to expect. David, our guide, was incredibly passionate & knowledgeable about the history of the area. I have lived in St Petersburg most of my life & had no idea the Jungle Prada area was so rich historically. The tour was very informative and it's definitely nice to know more about the area we live in. The grounds were beautiful & we loved seeing the peacocks. They are obviously well-cared for & cherished there. I would definitely recommend this tour. It's worth far more than the fair price of admission. Thank you & your family for preserving the area & being so passionate about sharing this gem with & educating the public.

This is a hidden gem of a site where you will hear a great story. The family that own the property are caretakers to a bit of history and cultural heritage. The tour guide, David, grew up on this site and has far more to tell about than he can possibly fit into the allotted tour time. Not only is this one of the better preserved Indian mounts in the area AND the site of a fascinating part of the history of Florida and the New World, but also a walk through lovely gardens with LOTS of peacocks and a great bit of history of the area. This tour is well worth an hour and a half out of your day for a humble, unique learning opportunity.

Excellent tour yesterday! David is extremely knowledgeable about the history, flora and fauna of the site, and his enthusiasm is infectious. My husband and I are new residents of the area and learned so much. The peacocks were pretty amazing, too. Highly recommend this tour!

  • 5/5 J A. 3 years ago on Google
David is delightful. He has family history in the area and at the site making the tour and information even more authentic, unique and special. Any tour is only as good as its guide. I'm beyond impressed with David's research and historical knowledge. He ran out of time but would gladly tell you more if you ask. I could listen to him for hours! I'm a big fan of history and the tremendous need to preserve it. He and his family are doing exactly that. Most people would sell this highly valuable land for profit instead of saving it for us to see and learn about a culture that was here 1000 years ago. You will not be bored and the value is insane!!! Don't walk run! I've done this twice in 3 years and will bring family and friends here anytime I can.

I lived in Tampa/St. Petersburg for 10 years and had heard of things mentioned on the tour (John's Pass, Pass-a-Grille, etc) but never knew the history behind them. I expected a peaceful tour and peacocks, and I did get both. I did not expect the endless amount of interesting historical facts. The tour guide was wonderful, and was obviously passionate about everything he was teaching us. I left this tour with tons of new information that I have been thinking about ever since. I honestly look at the neighborhoods I grew up in differently knowing the rich history that occurred right where I was raised. I highly recommend this tour to anyone.

I went with my family of six yesterday and we all agree that this was the highlight of our vacation. There is so much history of the property and area, and David is a serious talented storyteller who has done his research! My kids range from 3-16, and we were all captivated by David's every word. I learned so much, but with so much information presented, would have to do this tour multiple times if I lived in the area in order to soak it all in. Aside from the intersting history, the beauty and peacefulness of the property alone were worth the price of admission. I highly recommend this tour to all locals and tourists anywhere in the Tampa area!

We had a few hours left before our flight home and decided to book this tour on a whim. David greeted us at the gate and welcomed us to wander the gardens and museum before the tour began. There were peacocks, peahen and peafowl ;) walking all around the grounds and everything was beautiful and well kept. The entire tour was jam packed full of fascinating information. David was pulling out knowledge that obviously took a lot of extensive research and dedication to obtain, yet delivered it all in an engaging and entertaining way. It really was a wonderful time. There was a clean bathroom on site and refreshments available for purchase. You really do feel like this tour is a labor of love. I am so happy we did it. Thank you, David!

Today I went on a tour at Discover Florida Tours. If you are familiar with the area, you've probably driven past the giant white sign that indicates that Narvaez (who led a very interesting expedition through Florida and lived an extremely interesting life before and after...look him up) landed there in the 1500's. The site was all home to the Tocobaga native Floridians who built the shell mounds on the land. The Anderson family has worked to preserve the mound. David who gave me the tour, is continuing their family mission to preserve and educate . I know most people will find it something they can stop over, but people, I'm telling you to fo to one of their tours. It was only $12, was about 75 minutes, not a lot of walking at all..actually it was minimal in comparison to any other tour). But it was so interesting to not only learn about the Tocobaga and Spanish arrival here, but about local history of the development of the city. It's not a huge area, but it is an important area to preserve. Visiting helps keep things going for them. They also have other events like meditation, yoga, drum circles. David does other local historical talks in the area. He js knowledgeable about not just the family land, but other important historical spots in the county and Florida. You can even rent out a space outside for events like weddings or birthdays, etc. It was not too hot, but because it's a little jungle-y bug spray is needed. Check it our people!! Oh and David is a horticulturist and like an expert on native plants. There are also a bunch 🦚 if you enjoy those types of wild animals.

My husband and I had a fantastic time on the Jungle Prada Tour. We were fortunate to see one of the peacocks fan his tail to show off for the peahens. Then we learned about the early Native American inhabitants of the area which was followed by the Spaniards. The grounds of the area was very native to the area. David was an amazing guide who was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

This is my 3rd time for the tour and enjoyed the educational info of the Tocobaga Indian Village, the Seminole ancestors who once lived on this site. Thank you to David Anderson for your insight of knowledge about this sacred Indian mound on your property that your family has owned and cared for 82 years and counting.

David is a delightful storyteller. A wonderful way to learn some local history - from who is John of John's Pass to what is the treasure of Treasure Island. Plus learn about the economic ups & downs, what shell mounds are all about, where's the jungle in Jungle Prada, and more. Truly a hidden gem tour. And yes, you will see peacocks!

David was our tour guide. He was a wealth of information. The Prada Jungle is such a treasure. I can't wait to take our guests there. They have a great selection of plants for sale and a great gift shop so bring extra money, Don't miss walking out on the nearby pier and lunch at the Jungle Prada Tavern, delicious!

Took my friends from England on this exceptional, fascinating, engaging, historical, informative tour guided by David, not only does he give you a wonderful presentation about history, humankind, geology, arrival of Panfilo de Narvaez etc, he is a master of botany and plant expert. We were leaving grateful to have been part of a phantastic experience . Peocock displays were added bonus and mindblowingly beautiful.

I highly recommend the tour to anyone interested in a nice tour where the walking is manageable. Make sure to book your reservation online to secure your spot. The tour and overall experience of the historic Indian site was a GREAT find for me. David is educated, well experienced, professional, and a pleasure listening to during his walking tour of the site and history of the area. I enjoyed how well he diversifies the tour into different aspects of history. He even touches on how John's pass and Pass a Grille earned it's name.

This was an exceptional tour full of Floridian history, Native American history, plant information and plenty of peacocks to photograph. Our tour guide/owner David is full of extremely interesting information and even my 6 and 9 year old were engaged and quiet the whole tour which rarely happens. I told my father in law, this is a tour I could have taken multiple times because it had so much information and history to learn. Unfortunately we are from out of state, so that probably can’t happen. However, this is probably one our favorite things we did while visiting Florida. Thank you again for an exceptional tour!! We wish you and your family the best of blessings! -Nicole, Preston and Olivia

David was a wonderful guide & very knowledgeable about the history of property & early days of St. Pete, native people, plants & shells. The property is lovely, interesting & the peacocks were amazing! I would highly recommend this the long-time residents & visitors!

David’s tour of Jungle Prada Site Complex was very informative, it really is like a historical tour with a lot of fascinating info about the Tocobaga. The site is small but well maintained and lush and well shaded. Did I mention peacocks?

A fascinating experience if you're interested in local history, Native American history, Florida history, archeology or botany. David also throws in some pirate lore and, of course, there are peacocks. Despite taking the tour during a heat wave the 90 minutes flew by. Highly recommended!

So fascinating and informative! David does a great job of sharing the wealth of knowledge he has of the site and history! One of the hidden gems in our neighborhood, don’t miss it. March is a great time to visit as its mating season and displays of the peacocks are phenomenal. β™₯️

This is a quirky/unpolished little place but is well worth checking out. The presentation of the local history of Jungle Prada and the surrounding area is well done and amusing. It’s like a family decided to have a historical park in their yard.
