Security always power tripping on people over petty stuff. They have the seating areas barricaded and give you a hassle just to sit down. If you need to wait over night for your train or bus they will just kick you out in the cold while other stations around the country donโ€™t close. Thereโ€™s not even a spot to charge your phone in the waiting area and if you find one around the building they will start harassing you saying you cannot charge your device. Go to Union Station in Los Angeles if you want to be treated like a sub-human๐Ÿ’ฏ

Such a excellent example of Art Deco, Mission Revival, and Streamline Modern style architecture that harks back to a bygone era when rail travel was more than just transportation but an event. Undoubtedly this station has been used as a location for several films, I cant think of any right now, but its well worth arriving early so you can look around before your journey.

Took Amtrak from LA Union Station to Solana Beach in San Diego. It took about 2 hours and was a pleasant trip! You can purchase tickets online, leave your car at Union Station (I believe $8 all day), and board from the platform onto the second floor (first floor is for handicap and other special exceptions). The train has a bathroom (not the cleanest but not terrible and it has bathroom seat covers so that made it all great), a wall charger for the one sitting closest to the wall, WIFI, the chair reclines, foot rest, and a tray table. The train also has an area you can purchase food and drink from if you need it. It's best to arrive about 15-20 min early to be able to claim a good seat on the train. We chose the window seat to view the beautiful ocean after passing Irvine and the rest of the trip to Solana Beach! The train usher who checked our tickets was super cheery and helpful! He was an older gentleman and very well suited for his job! I heard him let some people know where their exit was and let a family know that a person was leaving next stop and that the ocean view was coming up so he would move them to the window seat to see it all! The only part I didn't like was returning on the train from Solana Beach to Union Station at 7pm-ish and there were about 20+ rowdy and drunk people coming from the horse races. I heard cops were downstairs with them so that was good they were being monitored but they initially walked through the second floor trying to find seats. They were insanely loud and some of them stumbled upon the chairs. I know this cannot be prevented as public transportation includes a lot of inevitable variables. Concerning Union Station, they have a random aquarium near the bathrooms and entrance, itโ€™s gotten semi cleaner but still has urine smell when walking through the halls, and there are plenty staff available to help. Still many homeless inside and outside. But the abundance of staff at Union Station shows some order.

This is an iconic place for sure as the hub in downtown LA for transit connections of all kinds trains, light rail, buses, taxis. There is a restaurant and a bar called Traxx which is pretty good but other than that the food is all fast food like Starbucks, Subway, Annie's pretzels. There is a convenience store inside breakfast burritos sandwiches in the like as well. I will say getting to your train or bus is a little confusing sometimes so you have to be very careful to watch all of the signs. For the most part, people in the information booth are helpful. Usually it's not a very busy station like Grand Central station in New York or the Paris Metro. The architecture is iconic for this area and I posted a few pictures of some interesting features as well as a video a man playing the piano.

I enjoyed my first visit to this iconic American station! I arrived on the Surfliner at 9am, transferring to the Coast Starlight for the LONG ride to Seattle. The entire trip was relaxing and very scenic. Union Station itself has gorgeous architecture, as you can see from the photos. It was a slow morning, likely due to COVID. Everyone wore face masks and kept reasonable distance. There was a bit of homeless activity around the exterior as you may expect for LA. Olympic Otter

The building is a old and beautiful, perhaps from colonial times. I really liked the small mexican street that was a few walks away from the station. This part was wonderful to get lost.

Beautiful renovation of tiles and interior. Classic beauty of an era gone by. Love the study in color and graceful architecture. Fun to see in person.

Union Station Los Angeles is an architectural masterpiece. It is a hub for different trains but I arrived there through Amtrak Texas Eagle. The downside of this beautiful place is that the homeless are there too mingling with passengers. They reek of so much smell because they do not shower. There are security folks there though to protect the passengers. The restrooms are nothing to write home about. Very disappointing.

We had not been to Union Station in many years but came up from San Diego for a day trip on Olvera Street. I never paid any attention before on the beautiful architecture inside so here are a few photos for you have never been there.

Union station is iconic and beautiful in its art deco style. The murals, fountains, tiled floors, arch east openingsโ€ฆ The beauty it was in its day still is there today! Right now itโ€™s decorated for Christmas with huge trees, wreaths. Even the seats are beautiful to look at and sit in.

This is where you get on/off the LAX FlyAway shuttle. Easy connection to the metro. But even if you're not here for transportation, it's worth a visit! It feels more like a unique blend of a Spanish hacienda and an art deco/streamline moderne mansion rather than a train station. Both the exterior and interior are impressive and photogenic.

there are orange trees in the yard not regular oranges Mandarin oranges. Olivera park is nearby and they have real authentic Mexican cuisine for sale at outdoor venues. souvenir shops sell sequoia tree seed packets for $3.00 great gift option. Union Station is also where Flixbus goes to Las Vegas and up to UCLA or UCSD or UC Berkeley. Barstow is on the way too. I like the mini mart at Union Station. You can catch the commuter trains to Pomona and beyond and numerous places in So Cal. Amtrak station here. Bathrooms are cleaner now. This is also an LA subway station. silver streak is here going to Pomona. Chaka Khan's music video Through the Fire filmed here at Union Station Los Angeles LA

EXACT CHANGE ONLY!!!! none of the machines have change. You will receive a voucher for the teller WHO ISN'T THERE ON WEEKENDS OR AFTER BUSINESS HOURS. Nobody is helpful. The restrooms are filthy, and everything you touch will be sticky. The lobby / sitting / waiting area is BARRICADED, so wear your ticket on a lanyard if possible.

Such beautiful architecture that has been lovingly restored. They're still working on areas but worth traveling through and checking it out. The usual amount of unhoused and mentally unstable people but plenty of security to feel safe if traveling alone.

It's a train station. The architecture inside is pretty cool to look at. There aren't a lot of options for food here but it's convenient enough when you're waiting to catch a train. This place is fine. As a functional train station, it gets the job done.

Main bus and train station. Walking distance from downtown LA. Waiting areas and restrooms on site. They have a few stores and a direct bus line to the airport.

So, after a two day trip from Arizona, on Amtrak, I was looking forward to arriving at the lax union station, Thinking it would be big enough for me to grab a bite, get sum fresh water bottles for myself and my service animal, I was stunned to find out that there wasn't a single water fountain in that huge station to get a drink of water... The baggage claim attendants were rude, unfriendly, and even abrasive. I am a handicapped female with a walker, who was traveling alone, besides my small service animal, and not one attendant or service rep even offered to help me transport my luggage to the Amtrak bus area. The service attendants from the train into the station dropped me and my little dog inside the station with my luggage and just lef.. Didn't inform me of where my gate was, and manhandled my luggage so roughly that several items inside my suitcase were broken. When I tried to ask for directions. The attendant I approached was very unfriendly and looked like he hated his job and everyone inside the station. I was utterly appalled at the blatant disregard for a handicapped individual traveling alone. Now as for the conductor of the train and the staff on the actual Amtrak was quite the opposite. They were friendly helpful and made an already long and tiring trip very acceptable and as comfortable as could be. I love Amtrak.. They are always friendly and do their best to provide excellent customer service for their passengers. I was truly shocked at the horrible treatment I received at lax union station

If you get here in the early AM there is NOTHING around the station. Everything is closed and there is a high number of homeless people. The station appears safe. I walked around at 7:30 AM and felt safe. NOTHING happened to me and no one approached me. So, again it's safe. The closest cafe is a 10 minute walk. Its just a tiny tie_nee bit spooky. :)

Every employee there was there to help. Doing their best to accommodate people all around including myself. Except for one woman. Her name is Kim. Up in the lounge area. She was rude and abrasive for no reason. No help. Almost ruined the whole trip. I hope she finds her happiness because that night she damn near ruined mine. Horrible person.

In about an hour from OC, youโ€™ll reach Union Station in L.A. Union Station East (cheaper day parking) ๐Ÿ“ 811 N Vignes St, Los Angeles, CA 90012 * Take Metrolink to the Hollywood Pantages Theatre * Tip: purchase a physical or digital TAP card before boarding * Youโ€™ll take the B Line (Red). Itโ€™s about 24 minutes * Get off Hollywood/ Vine * When you walk out of the station, the Pantages Theatre is across the street. Lots of nice wall decor. In the main area, the architecture is beautiful.

Arrived at the Union station after a long bus ride from Texas. (Bus driver got lost) It has changed quite a bit. Looks very nice compared to the last time I was here. (20 yrs ago) Very helpful employees. Took 3 trains home. Line A, E, and K. $3.50 that is all it cost. Forget Uber, or Lyft. I might take the train again just to ride it. Peace.

Nice art deco, but there is a high incidence rate of confrontations with those suffering from homelessness or mental illness. Otherwise, it's got good grubbing options. I wish there was more outdoor space, but the area around the fountain near the Amtrak bus zone has a good grounding vibe to help soothe some travel stress.

Nowhere to sit!!! I was there hours early in order to get on the dodger express quicker so I stood for the most part. I got tired and decided to sit near a table, only to quickly been told that I need to buy something from the restaurant in order to sit. I said no thanks to that and found an area where people were sitting but the security guard said I need a ticket in order to sit there. My last attempt to sit was when I sat on the floor and waited for the bus to come. After 10 minutes of this I get confronted by security saying I canโ€™t sit there. WHERE AM I SUPPOSE TO SIT?!!!

Union station is not a problem but Metro is. They create policies that endanger the public in the preference of saving a few seconds and all the while they take billions in public tax payer money for themselves. This is all in the interest of themselves and without care/concern for their riders. The Metro ambassadors have got to be the most worthless people of all, absolutely worthless. Completely incompetent. Tax-payer money wasted to pay them. Fraud perpetrated upon the public.

"Disgusting display of humanity" I road a corrupt buss line all the way across the country. I was on and off busses for 5 days. When I got to Union station. I went into the bathroom to freshen up. A security guard who grew up only wanting to be just that, fallows me into the bathroom and harassed about trying to take care of my hygiene. This man went out of his way to make my day worse. That's considered a "Disgusting display of humanity" it also makes that security tough guy, "A traitor to the descendants of Adam". Boged

Union Station is absolutely horrific. The bathrooms are filthy and unusable. The entire area near the bus plaza smells. If you have the option of transportation that avoids this place, I would encourage it. The only pleasant seating area does not permit you to enter if you happen to be here for Greyhound or FlixBus.

I regularly take the train as it's much faster and more efficient than driving. The station itself is not bad as with any bus or train depot it has its fair share of transients but they also have ample security so if you can get by the smell of some of the patrons you should be alright.

  • 3/5 Arturo R. 1 year ago on Google
It's a great local main travel hub. Ubers, taxis, buses (local and long distance), and trains, it's a great place to catch public transportation. If you are going a professional game (Dodgers, etc...) Metro does make it easy to get there and back ($8 parking). The downside, main reason for 3 star, is the transient (homeless) traffic, but for a major big city, it has gotten a bit better (depending when you go).

Beautiful building. Easy to find, located right off frwy. Was very clean, and well lit. Parking was convenient and available even a few days before Xmas! had a nice lounge, friendly bartender. On sight security and lots of employees available to assist. Train arrived on time and we got in and out without any problems. Good experience here. โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜† They really cleaned this area up. Felt very safe

It's always a pleasure visiting Union station. It's like a nostalgic walk through history. I've always entered on the front side of the street which I think is Alameda street. This time I entered from the south side and it was quite a surprise. I didn't know it had been upgraded like that. This beautiful works of art, fountains, and the aquarium really blew me away. I would really love to go on a tour through that station one of these days. Definitely one of America's hidden jewels. As always there is a small problem with homeless people and some mentally ill. I realize that's hard to combat in a public place like that. But they have plenty of security and the service personnel are really on task. Navigating and directions were breeze.

A very cheap, good timed and cool way to move among Los Angeles. From the airport you can get there via Flyaway bus ($9.75) and then you pay about $2 for the Metrolink card and $1.75 per one way trip. I enjoyed it so much.

๐Ÿ‘ Interesting station with many helpful transit connections and regular service! Make connections to the Orange Line Busway, Amtrak and or Metrolink here. Can feel extremely desolate and creepy at off-peak hours especially in the evening. Lighting is poor at night but there is a security guard station...
