Cannot speak highly enough about Detours!! I was a little apprehensive, I’d never traveled with an LGBT oriented company before. I didn’t know what to expect, and as a quiet more introverted guy, I’ll admit I was a little worried I wouldn’t have fun or “fit in.” All I can say is this company, and my travel group, took me in, accepted me, on my terms. They gave me the best gift… community, friendship, and memories I’ll cherish forever. It was an incredible experience and I cannot wait to travel with Detours again. Shout out to Brandon, our tour leader… I’ve never seen someone so able to multitask, he had to be an organizer, accountant, leader, counselor, I’m still amazed at how effortlessly he coordinated such an incredible experience for all of us, and I’m so grateful. Clay - leader in training, was also amazing, kind, supportive, and encouraging… thank you!!!

South Africa is a gorgeous gem with plenty to be discovered. Safari, wines, city and countryside adventures with many more! Our native born, Detours guide Darren, went above and beyond not only to educate us on the peoples and cultures but he also kept the fun going with some surprise excursions as well. I would not hesitate to put my trust in him again as a leader of another amazing Detours vacation. He made me feel right at home, comfortable and at ease traveling in a country I have never been before. Can’t wait for my next trip with Detours!

This has been my third trip with DetoursTravel and I cannot say enough good things. First of all the price. I realized what a ripoff the other gay Travel companies are. And Detours does cut corners either, great tours, hotels, city tours and food. It is nice to get off the plane and have everything planned for you. The tour guides are a blast and so are the other travelers. I have done Thailand, Costa Rica, and just now Central Europe. I am looking forward to my next one! 10/10 recommend

South Africa is truly a magical adventure. My main impetus for selecting this trip was the safaris. They exceeded whatever expectations I had. Our trip leader Darren has an encyclopedic knowledge of South Africa matched with an enthusiastic pride and love of his native homeland. His attention to detail made for a smooth and effortless journey for his passengers. My introduction to Africa was a smashing success. While I am ready to go home, I know I will return sometime soon. I also want to give a shout out to Miles on the Detours team who was instrumental in making this such a wonderful trip for me. Bruce

I had always dreamed of visiting South Africa. My dream was realized and surpassed by the Detours experience. Our excellent guide, Darren loves this country and his passion shows. This was my first Detours trip and I will be back for more. I found the tour packed with experiences but I was never overwhelmed. Love, love, loved it!

What an amazing trip. There were so many amazing things to see and all I had to do is tell Darren (our Detours guide) what I wanted and it was that easy. Cape Town was great with the penguins, harbor cruise, African dinner and botanical gardens along with some gay night life. Wine country was so picturesque and Darren knew exactly where to take us. Kruger park was nothing short of stunning. We got to see “the big five animals” along with loads of others. The hotels were great along with their locations. Traveling with a group can have challenges but Darren made it easy. He was so organized and always made sure that we had time to see the sights. As a native South African he has so much knowledge about the country. I can’t say enough about how much fun I had. The sights along with meeting a wonderful group of fellow travels made it extra special. I will be going on additional Detour adventures

This had to be our most favorite vacation ever taken. It was made perfect by the great team of Detours Travel inc! Darren made it seamless with something to do, even when the weather/fog didn't cooperate. You will see us again!

My trip to Costa Rico exceeded my expectations. I pushed my limits riding an ATV, canyoneering, and whitewater rafting. The jungle tours were a lifetime experience that I’ll never forget. The accommodations at each location were exceptional. There are not enough positive things that I can say about my trip leader. He is one in a million. I’d be lucky, no privileged to be assigned to another trip with Brandon. My only suggestions for future trips is to use a different company for the white river rafting. The one used was more focused on promoting their company and selling the pictures, which needed editing than focusing on the rowers. Also, I suggest finding restaurants with different cuisines. Plantains, red beans and rice get monotonous. Over all, it was an incredible vacation that I will recommend to friends. No company does it like Detours!

Personally I mostly loved the contact with the nature in this amazing Country and the variety of activities during our stay. Brandon (team leader) really knows his job, we all felt very lucky to have him.

Just got back from the Detours South Africa trip. One word. EPIC! This was my first Detours trip and I think the biggest accolade I can give is that I booked my 2nd Detours trip while still on this one. I can't imagine a better experience. The sites, the safari, the sharks, the penguins, the wine tasting, the views, the gardens, the meals, the clubs, the happy hour gabfests, the newly minted friendships, the logistics, the shops, and so much more. And all that with me taking 2 "days off" to chill at the pool. Our group of guys were the best, but one person deserves more credit than I can adequately give and that's our fearless leader, Darren a.k.a. "Daddy D." He was stellar and 5 stars all the way. His knowledge of South Africa is unparalleled and he made it an unforgettable experience. Protect him at all costs! Until next time, cheers!

Detours makes it feel like you’re traveling with friends. Always attentive, professional and open to suggestions about travel ideas during the tour. It is truly the perfect mix between spontaneity and planned travel which is rare to find with a gay travel company. Dan was amazing as our tour leader and Hend their local Egyptian guide is simply the best tour guide I’ve ever traveled with hands down. Hend (Egypt guide) was profesional, organized and assertive when needed in a very male, corrupt government and travel ministry. I recommend Detours Egypt’s trip to anyone who was ever curios but apprehensive about their safety in Egypt but wanted to experience the wonders of the world.

We recently traveled with Detours to Greece. From the moment we began our initial inquiry to the time we returned home from our trip, Detours guided us each step of the way. We especially love that Detours planned everything, but developed the itinerary so that we didn’t feel pressured for time and allowed us to break away and do our own thing if we wanted to. And the trip is an incredible value! We also love the small groups size. Our trip guide, Miles, truly went out of his way to make sure that any needs were met, and was always available to answer questions and provide advice. When storms in the U.S. prevented us from returning from Greece for two days, Miles was right there to make sure we had accommodations during our delay. We loved our trip so much that we booked another trip to Egypt this summer. The recent pandemic derailed our trip, but they allowed us to rebook another trip, so we’ll be traveling with Detours to Portugal and Morocco soon! I recommend Detours Travel without reservation.

What an amazing adventure in Spain! This was my first group travel experience, and I’m so glad that I chose to do it with Detours. I appreciated the great communication before the trip and the thoughtful approach to each place we visited. I was a bit apprehensive about their flexible travel concept, but after experiencing it I’m hooked! Our trip leader turned an interesting looking itinerary into something that was beyond expectations. He was full of suggestions on activities that we could do as a group or individually, and the meals that we shared together were fantastic. I was able to experience Spain with the company of new friends, and with a great group leader that made it feel like we were traveling with a local. This was truly one of the best travel experiences I’ve had. I’m looking forward to my next adventure with the Detours team!

Our 12 day trip to Greece was outstanding. Detours far exceeded my expectations. Rather than simply traveling to a new place, we experienced an amazing adventure filled with gorgeous locations, incredible photos, unforgettable activities, fun travel companions, while providing inspiration for personal reflection and rejuvenation. It is far one of the most favorite and memorable vacations – to put in in a Greek context – it was an epic odyssey! First, I loved the Greece itinerary – it offered a multi-layered and comprehensive travel experience. Culture and history were the highlight of Athens. Authentic Greece with great outdoor activities in Milos. Breathtaking views and photo ops in Santorini. Beaches, Bars and Shopping in Mykonos. At all destinations there was great food, friendly people and fond memories. Second, I have traveled on groups tours, with family and friends and set up my own travel plans. Detours does it the best! Some of the aspects that receive top marks include:  + Laid back approach – there is an itinerary of destinations – but what you do each day is up to you and the group. This is an ideal approach for me in travel. I want to have lots of options for things to do, but decide in a more spontaneous way how I wish to spend each day. BRAVO for this philosophy and execution.  + Affordability – the value vs cost was exceptional. If I had planned this trip on my own, it would have been double the price. Great accommodations and food at reasonable prices.  + Attention to detail – the transportation coordination of drivers and ferries was impeccable. Really knowing the interests of gay travelers was a big plus.  + Customized service – Any needs we had were met with a warm smile and a great solution. Finally, our trip leader Shane was brilliant and made this trip a once in a lifetime adventure. His smile, outgoing personality, sense of adventure coordination and personal support was excellent. He was so inclusive and build a strong rapport with each traveler and created an environment for people to experience things together or supported them if they chose activities outside of the group. His presence added so much value to me (encouraging to try things I usually wouldn’t do) and taking extra steps to ensure my husband (who has some physical limitations) was safe and felt supported. We rate Detours Travel an A+! We absolutely will recommend your company to friends. And we will book another Detours adventure (especially any led by Shane)! David Pease Portland, Maine

Had such a wonderful time with Detours. The trip was in Costa Rica, and i felt safe. Everything was mapped out for me and I barely had to think! Only left one thing to do: relax! Would definitely travel with this company again.

I researched gay travel groups and Detours just grabbed my attention. I went to Greece with Miles in 2019 and had a wonderful experience and as I have told everyone it gave me a passion for traveling. I just completed my second trip with Detours with Shane leading the group and again had a wonderful time. The hotels are exceptional and the places we ate at were wonderful! Detours was on top of every detail including the vans picking us up on time to every detail thought of. Everything went smoothly. I enjoyed immensely meeting people from all over the country to the world and have enduring friendships! Miles and Shane couldn't have been nicer. Their friendly and always happy attitudes were contagious! A great testament to how much I've enjoyed traveling with them is that I have 3 more trips scheduled. I highly recommend Detours!! Sincerely, Kelly Duvall, Woodward Oklahoma

We just completed a trip to Greece in September 2021. The trip was amazing and Detours made it very easy. Shane was our trip leader and he left no stone unturned. He was always five steps ahead of the gang. Some people in our group like more of the history stuff and others like the beach. He had multiple itinerary options throughout the day to please all involved. We felt very comfortable traveling to Greece during Covid. Everyone in our group was vaccinated and the authorities checked VAX cards on all the different islands and Athens. Thanks for such a great trip. We are looking forward to the next adventure with Detours.

Croatia? What's in Croatia? This was the question I constantly got when friends heard of my vacation plans. I must confess I didn't know what to expect myself. I was pleasantly surprised at every turn. With the usual aplomb, Detours took us to amazing locations with spectacular views and incredible food. This country is definitely a must see!

I just returned from my 2nd trip with Detours and had an amazing adventure all throughout Peru in Oct. 2021. My first trip was South Africa in Jan. 2020. Both trips have been amazing - I love the open format of many things being included in the trip and a lot of optional "add-ons" to experience or just take the day and chill! I have done as many add-ons as possible and have never been let down! I've now experienced trips with Dan, Kyle and Miles and all of them have been fun, adventurous, kind and make everyone feel welcome! Now I have about 30 friends around the world and memories for a lifetime; thanks to traveling with Detours! 🥰

I just got home from the Detours trip to Egypt and it was phenomenal. Of the 9 people on the trip, 8 of us had traveled with them multiple times before. You know they are doing things right when people keep going with them on adventures! And the one who had never used them before and I are planning to do South Africa together with Detours in 2022. On every trip, the hotels have met or exceeded expections: the kind of places I would book for myself. (grammar check, please. 🙄) The tour guides are peeps you would hang out with if they lived in your city. And I have met someone each time that I still maintain contact with. So, overall the Detours experience is great! The Egypt trip specifically... Arriving / departing Cairo could be a daunting experience, but Detours arranges transport so you have someone to ease your way through the entire process (getting visa and clearing customs). Then, be prepared to be amazed for the next several days! Explore your world. 😁

On day one when I heard that this is Detour’s inaugural trip to Portugal and Morocco, I was very excited. Meeting Shane and Brandon on this inaugural trip as tour leads was also a first for me having two detour leads on the trip. I was able to ask questions and get assistance with anything relatively quickly. Both Brandon and Shane are definitely high energy and very positive individuals. They went well beyond their duties as tour guide and probably spent more personal time with us than necessary, which in hind sight having two tour leads is a big bonus especially on an inaugural trip. Both are extremely responsive and has their own complementary style to each other. They work well together. Was it.a perfect trip, no but It was an incredible experience. And also a first for me, from day one, everyone on the trip was very nice and was bonding very quick. We didn’t have any high maintenance individual so it was very very refreshing and we quickly became a family. Is there certain activities that could be retailored, definitely. Asfor the people I just travelled with including Brandon and Shane, I wouldn’t change anyone of them at all. Looking forward to my next adventure with detour.

My partner and I recently got back from the 12 Days in Peru trip. This was our first Detours trip, but it definitely won't be our last. We had an amazing time. I expected an interesting trip based on the itinerary, but I had no idea that the food would be this good. The restaurants were amazing! I also didn't expect the accommodations to be this fabulous. All of our hotels were really spectacular. The group activities (riding all-terrain vehicles, dune buggy ride and sand boarding, boat ride in Paracas) were a blast, and the trip provides plenty of free time to pursue individual interests. Everyone on the trip was super nice. No drama at all. I made some nice friends, some of whom I'll definitely keep in touch with. I can't wait for the next trip.

I rarely write reviews but I simply had to write one for Detours after returning from their Italy trip. Honestly, the way I found Detours is that I searched for “Gay tour Italy”. And while there were a number of tour groups offering trips to Italy, Detours had a trip that was closest to the dates I wanted to travel. So I booked the trip and hoped for the best! But I didn’t need to worry, and you won’t need to worry either if you book with them. My trip leaders ended up being Miles & Ollie and they were both knowledgeable, professional, helpful, friendly, entertaining, and adorable. They thought of every detail and even included some surprises along the way. I met some great people and made memories that will last a lifetime. I was genuinely sad when it was over. This trip actually meant a lot to me and thanks to Detours, it was everything I had hoped for and more. I can’t imagine booking with anyone else in the future. Now I just need to decide where to go next!

Just completed Detour’s South Africa trip. This was my fourth trip with Detours and each one has been fantastic . Our trip leader Darren was very well organized and knowledgeable about South Africa and made everyone feel welcome and included. Would highly recommend Detours Travel.

We just completed our fourth Detours trip (to South Africa), and each trip has gotten better and better. Darren was a great group leader making sure everyone’s activities were taken care of. I very much enjoyed his narratives; they were very informative and thorough, and showed his love and knowledge and understanding of the country of his birth. Everything was great, accommodations, activities, places we went to. Great job again!

Tim and I had an amazing time on our Detours trip to Costa Rica. This was our first time on an all-male trip, so we did not know what to expect. We have already registered for our second trip with Detours, so you know where this review is going. Everything leading up to the trip was handled with professionalism and ease by Detours. That same vibe continued once the trip started. Brandon, our trip leader, was high-energy, fun, kind, inclusive, organized, connected, and on top of his game. He did not miss a beat, all details were attended to, and he made the trip enjoyable for all. Clay was equally kind and fun, and we look forward to one of his guided trips in the future. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. We loved the variety of our locations (the beach, the mountains, the hot springs / Volcano). A little bit of everything was perfect. We participated in so many unforgettable activities (ziplining, Tarzan swing, ATV, white-water rafting, canyoneering, sunset cruises, beaches, waterfalls, pool parties, park tours, . . . ) that filled our days and brought us even closer to the group of guys we traveled with. The beauty is you get to choose your own adventure. Do it all, or do nothing, no pressure. If that is not enough, you get to experience it all with a diverse group of men from across the globe. The friendships and connections we made were easy even for introverts and heightened our positive experiences. We hope to continue these friendships in our future travels. If you are on the fence, get off. A Detours experience is worth it. Enjoy your trip! Tim & Patrick, Elkhart Lake, WI.

I was initially hesitant to join a group of strangers for 11 days in Costa Rica, but I also knew I wasn’t going to take this trip any other way. I am so glad I did. This was one of my best vacations ever. It didn’t hurt that I absolutely loved Costa Rica. Brandon, Clay, and the Detours team did a great job of planning, organizing, and guiding this trip. The only things that didn’t work smoothly were things out if their control, like the bus nit showing up. Brandon and Clay were really engaged and inclusive. It was fun to watch them work their way around the group, really interacting, and seeming genuine about it. The scheduling was great. Plenty to do while not seeming rushed. I also appreciated that we were encouraged to participate in the activities, yet we were never pressured. Consequently, I really enjoyed every activity I engaged in. The lodging was great, the organized meals were good, the casual social interactions were fun. I would be hesitant to sign up for a trip with longer bus rides, but under 4 hours on travel days was fine. The small group size was really ideal. Small enough to really get a sense of my travel companions and to make some new friends from new places. I am considering future trips with Detours, and I intend to recommend this group readily. Thanks for a great trip. Steve McKay Just east of the middle of nowhere, Iowa, USA

Exceptional! I never write reviews but this company and the group guide Darren exceeded my expectations in every area on my recent trip to South Africa... from the price to the adventures included. There was no stone unturned. If you are looking to close your eyes and be taken care of from a to z ..Detours is the place for you..
