Hiked into it from the Appalachian Trail during a particularly hot day. There's a lower room devoted to hikers. Enjoyed a cold drink from the refrigerator, on a donation basis. The room proved relatively cool. Remained awhile to refresh. Noted ample bunk space. Regard this as a good stop for a thru hiker. Good place to refill water.

Love this trail. There is an overlook that is very close to parking. It’s a beautiful place to stop with the family. You can also camp here. If you are an avid hiker like me, then you can get your legs and heart pumping with a long distance hike. This trail goes as far as Harper’s ferry. Parking is best off route 7.

Bear Den is the best hostel I have seen on the AT so far. Very clean in all bunk rooms. A lot of nice camp site as well. I enjoy my private room with my own bathroom for just $60! They just upgraded the heating system with very good hot water as well. After a long exhausting hike on the roller coaster, this is the best relaxing place to spend the night. The caretaker Glen is a very helpful and friendly host who made me feel like I am back home! Highly recommend this place to anyone!!

A beautiful get away from Virginia, we wanted to go for sunset point and found this beautiful location - Bears Den. We didn’t do camping nor booked a BNB. But there is an option to do that. There are couple of trails around and a sunset point which you can really enjoy, we didn’t get chance to go at the sunset point as it started pouring heavily. Next time we are definitely going to do that trail hike and look at the sunset.

We did not stay at the lodge, however, now we know that it is there we would like to book a stay. This is a great place to access the Appalachian Trail. The is a great overlook area about 1/2 mile into the woods.

So it was hard to find the parking lot for this place cause there’s no signage. It’s on the right side of the road right next to the highway. You know you’ve gone too far if you’ve reached the brewery on the left, but someone there was able to direct me to the trailhead. It’s about a 20 minute hike uphill and it can be quite rocky! But the view was gorgeous. And you can continue on after the lookout if you want. This hike intersects with the Appalachian Trail.

We camped on the grounds instead of staying inside. They know you by name, leave you with a bucket of firewood under your table, you have access to the showers and they have some fun little trails. The dogs enjoyed exploring them.

Never stayed in the cabin, only ever hit the trails. The overlook is alright. It is part of the Appalachian trail, so if you ever decided to take a year-long break from life and wanted to spend it in nature, you absolutely can. If you go across 695, it continues to Raven Rock. Now that overlook is amazing, overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains

Don’t miss the entrance! There is a small sign (see picture) on the right, if you arrived from route 7 to rt 601. Some lovely, easy hiking options. Many trails meet / cross here (AT + 2-3 others). I gave it 4 stars because the trails from this starting point are generally out and back versus loops. We hiked down the mountain (don’t miss the viewpoint!) then walked back up along route 601. There is no shoulder and drivers aren’t super considerate, so be careful if you do this!! Nonetheless a nice walk in the woods. The fall would be gorgeous here.

Great place to stop for a night when hiking the trail. Warm showers, plenty of beds, and room to relax and recover.

Easy hiking for kids & whole family. Its short and sweet hike. You will have a beautiful view from Bear’s Den. You can ramble on rocks but be careful. Parking is easy too. It might get busier on Weekend. You will meet through hikers.

Great campground. It’s super affordable and only an hour from DC so it makes for an easy weekend getaway. The lookout provides a beautiful view. The campground was quiet. We car camped but it’s located right on the AT so there were lots of Backpackers stopping for the evening. Glen was very friendly and super helpful. Wood is available onsite. Also a major benefit is the awesome Bear Chase Brewery located right across the street.

What a great way to view the valley. Hiking trail is clean and well maintained. Definitely worth the hike up. A good place to even take kids if you are watchful and not too worried about bumps and bruises. Parking is $3, but for a good cause so definitely don't skip out on it being that it's basically on the honor system.

We camped there and it was awesome. The man who runs it is great. You need reservations to camp.

Wow! I was so impressed when I got here. I'm actually just tent camping not using the hostel but the tent sites are amazing. And let's just talk about the whole place being so beautiful. I most definitely would give 100 stars if I could. If you get a chance stay here you will not regret it!!

The experience I had was what I needed. I was able to put my elecronics away and listen to what nature had to say. The deers was running free. The trails was incredible. It was safe and clean. The host, hikers and others that stayed in the B and B was so nice and easy to chat with. I would totally tell everyone this is the place to visit. The 8 days I camped out was very reasonable.

If you're out here in Northern VA looking for a great view, this is amazing. I came here on Mother's Day and was happy to see other fellow hikers. A great hike to relieve the stress of the work week. We parked by the campground which is a small lot, you can do your own google search for road names, and stayed on course to be brought out to a bigger lot. Rocks can be slick, it's muddy out there, we had small back pack. Loved this view. You have to see it yourself to believe it 🤗 my pics are random stuff I liked, I won't ruin the "view" for you. Worth the drive. Go see it 🌿

Went at its coldest that we've been camping and needed to get away from the city to explore the Appalachian Trail with my service dog Cesar to work on his longevity and senses to one day become a search and rescue dog. Glen and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club were all very welcoming and resourceful and looking for many more trips here.

This is right off the AT, look for the sign for Bear’s Den near the overlook. We are beginner backpackers and this was the perfect place to wind down after a very long day on the rollercoaster. The owner is super hospitable and there are board games here. You get dinner, dessert, bed, shower, and breakfast for $40.

Looks like a great place for tent camping, parking is easy enough, and it's located on entrance to the Appalachian Trail. Nice outhouse style restrooms, at the campground are some installations to keep your wood dry and the outdoor cooking fun... I don't know if water if available to campers. To those staying at the lodge it must be amazing.

Tonight is our 3rd night at Bears Den Hostel. It's hard to find words for how much I've enjoyed this spot. It's breathtakingly beautiful (who doesn't love a castle in the forest?). Every corner is impeccably well thought out. The lush lawn, the flowers & garden, multiple areas for a fire with clean benches, a covered picnic area, clean bunk room & bathroom. Inside the lodge is beautiful & has magazines, a piano, chess, cards, ample dining space & indoor plants all around. And, the host is perfect! I'm sure we'll be back. Thank you for everything!

Stopped here for a break off the Appalachian trail. Great spot to take a zero day. The view is magical. It has a hostel for hikers and also has private rooms. The bunk house is very clean and spacious.

An amazing property, looks like a castle. Current prices $25 a night for a bunk is an incredible deal, includes breakfast ! Staff is welcoming and friendly. Right off the Appalachian trail. Very clean and comfortable.

Actually came here just for the hiking if their trails. Well designated and even though it is was a pretty steep climb in some places, either by nature( stones and roots) or man made, the trek up and down the mountain was easier than expected. Loved the view .. see photos

I haven't stayed at the campgrounds, but there is always someone camping there. It is just such a beautiful view from the rocks. There are breweries and wineries in close driving distance. Great to go to AFTER you take in the view from the rocks. Not safe if you are under the influence.

A great spot to watch the sunset! I love to take my parents who are older here because the hike is fairly short to the rocky area where you can sit and watch the sunset. Highly recommend

FANTASTIC! Staff was VERY friendly and accomodating. Great place to explore inside and out. Every bed had fresh sheets and pillow cases. PLUS a whole pizza, pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, shower, bed, laundry AND pancakes and coffee for breakfast, all for the whopping price if $35. It was a welcomed stop on an unusually cold couple days. 👏👏👏
