Dr. Tufano performed a parathyroidectomy on me several weeks ago. It couldn’t have had nicer outcomes. Such a difference between my before and after. I am forever grateful to his talents and to his part in the decision to go through with this procedure. I am no longer dragging around like something still alive that the cat brought in, but have great energy and am very happy about that. Dr. Tufano listens, is easy to talk to and is friendly and simpatico. A really enjoyable presence! Not only were the two consulting sessions I had with Dr. Tufano helpful and preparatory; they gave me a confident sense I was in good, well organized hands and mind. The procedure occurred in the new building of Sarasota Memorial Hospital: clean, spacious, new, well-equipped…the treatment was so efficient and friendly. Great, upbeat team work from beginning to end. A variety of professionals saw to my needs…warm blankets if I was feeling cold, etc. and got me off to the operating room where again I felt I was in good hands and which was a state of the art place.

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at 34weeks pregnant. Dr Tufano was so great about relieving my fears of waiting for surgery until after birth. The day before my surgery Dr Tufano, myself and 2 endocrinologists met to discuss the plan for surgery, as well as go over alternative plans if needed during the actual procedure. Surgery was great and my scar is healing beautifully. Everyone in his office was wonderful as well. Dr Tufano was excellent at explaining everything and I felt cared for by himself and the whole office staff. Highly recommend.

I am from the Cayman Islands, a small island in the Caribbean. I was referred to Dr. Tufano by my local Endocrinologist when my biopsy results came back “suspicious” with a 75% chance it could become cancer, and I was advised that I needed surgery as soon as possible. My initial consultation with Dr. Tufano was done over the phone, after he had reviewed all of the reports received from my Endocrinologist. Dr. Tufano was very pleasant and took the time to discuss the options with me and to answer my questions. I felt comfortable and at ease with him right away. It was determined that I would have a lobectomy and the surgery date was scheduled. I met Dr. Tufano in his office the day before the surgery and he did his own ultra sound and pre-surgery tests, and also explained what I should expect the day of the surgery and timeline for recovery. The surgery went well and I did not experience any pain afterwards, only some tightness in the neck. I had no difficulties swallowing and that evening I ate a banana and yoghurt. I met with Dr. Tufano in his office two days later for post-surgery follow-up and was released to travel back home. We also scheduled a further follow up appointment by phone for the pathology results. The scar started to heal within two weeks and my recovery is going as outlined. I was afraid of any potential damage to the nerves around my vocal cords but I am happy to report that there was none and my voice has not been affected. I am very pleased with the surgery and thank Dr. Tufano for his excellent care. I have only good things to say about Dr. Tufano, his office staff, and the team at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. They were very friendly, kind, helpful and professional, and made me feel comfortable every step of the way – everyone was just wonderful! I had scarless thyroid surgery with Dr. Tufano in December of 2021 and while when he was telling me about the approach I though he was absolutely crazy I am so glad I went with this approach. People are always looking for my scar when they hear I had thyroid surgery and are mind blown when I tell them about the scarless approach. I had an in office radio frequency ablation of a benign nodule on my thyroid. There is no prep, very little discomfort, and I resumed all my activities the next day. The procedure is similar to a biopsy. No scaring. I have over a 70% reduction and still shrinking. It is no longer visible and I feel great. My Medicare and secondary insurance refunded the cost of the procedure. Dr Tufano explains what he is doing during the procedure. I found it very interesting. You can save your thyroid.

Dr. Tufano is a dedicated surgeon specializing in thyroid and parathyroid problems. Before I had my parathyroid surgery, Dr. Tufano tested me extensively to make sure it was the parathyroid gland that was malfunctioning. He explained the risks in my case from previous thyroid surgery and the likelihood of scar tissue. The day of the surgery he re-explained what he was going to do, answered questions my sister posed, and, at my request, said a short prayer. I can’t say enough about this intelligent, kind, and thoughtful surgeon. And his nurse practitioner Michel responded to my texted questions within the same day. What a team! And I can’t leave out my kudos for the office staff…welcoming, efficient, and caring. You could not go wrong in selecting Dr. Ralph Tufano for your procedure.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr Tufano!! I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in December and immediately started my search for a surgeon. Upon meeting Dr Tufano in January I immediately knew he was the surgeon for me! He took his time to explain my medical history, testing, diagnosis and repeated an ultrasound himself. He spent time answering my questions and I felt so at ease. He has amazing bedside manner and you can tell he truly cares for his patients. He performed my surgery in February and I am doing great! Dr Tufano and staff are special people. They must be to put up with a patient like me. We discussed FNA but my growth was on the large side.After canceling two surgeries my fault l met with Dr Tufano again, we discussed Thyroid surgery to save half of my Thyroid. I thank Dr Tufano and staff ( Sarah ) for waiting months for me to have my surgery done. The doctor explained everything in detail and I knew I had the right surgeon for me. Surgery went well and I’m recovering as expected.

I had a great experience with Dr Tufano. In January of this year I met with Dr Tufano to discuss the partial removal of my thyroid. Dr Tufano made a very nerve wracking experience easier to go through. He was able to perform the surgery through a technique he developed enabling him to perform the surgery and the patient having no scar on the neck afterwards.The recovery time was quick and I’m really fortunate the endocrinologist recommended Dr Tufano. I recently had the procedure done for a partial thyroidectomy, due to cancer cells being present. My procedure was done by Dr. Tufano at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The process and procedure was quick and efficient - same day discharge. I greatly appreciate the attentiveness and kindness of Dr. Tufano and his staff. My procedure was completed so that I would end up with no visible scar - a less common procedure than the usual removal of the thyroid. Dr. Tufano was very thorough in explaining how the procedure would be done and answering all the questions that I had. I had such fantastic experience with Dr. Tufano and his team. When I found out that I had thyroid cancer and needed surgery, I did my own research and was very pleased to find Dr. Tufano in Sarasota, but was waiting to speak to my endocrinologist for her recommendation. To my delight, she recommended him 100%. He made a very nerve racking experience so much easier. At our initial consultation, he took the time to explain all of my options and what all of the procedures would involve, as well as what was currently going on with my thyroid and nodules. After reading his surgeon's report I was astonished. The delicate surgical precision that was required to carefully remove so many components was impressive. I am 7 weeks post surgery and my healing has gone very well, my scar is barely visible and my numbers are indicating that all of the cancer was removed. I had an amazing experience with this group from start to end, everyone from Dr Tufano, his NP, Dr Herlec, the nurses, and the office staff were very welcoming, nice, helpful, attentive and educational about everything. I really can’t say enough great things about this group!!! They truly listened to any concerns and fears I had, gave me multiple options, and made everything about the process easy and made sure I was comfortable with my decisions. This is the best doctor experience ive had in a a long time. From the office staff to Dr. Tufano himself. They were very efficient in getting me into surgery and getting the job done right the first time. I found out I had cancer and was recommended to this doctor by my endocrinologist, the way she explained how great he was gave me confidence on my decision to go there of my thyroid surgery. Next I was greeted by his staff and met him for the in person consultation where everything was explained fully. Once I made my decision to move forward with the surgery, they were able to get me scheduled and do the surgery. Its now.a month later and I am not having any problems. Dr. Tufano is WONDERFUL! For several years I was suffering with thyroid issues, and saw a different surgeon a year before, that simply dismissed my concerns about having my thyroid removed due to the cists on it and the awful effects it was having on my health. His solution was to just “ keep an eye on it “ but actually do NOTHING to take care of the issue. A year of suffering later, Dr. Tufano saw me and immediately agreed to help me by taking my thyroid out. He did an excellent job with the surgery, leaving minimal scarring. He and his staff were highly caring and professional throughout my entire procedure. I’ve seen many Dr’s over the years for various medical reasons, but I’ve never had such a great experience with any other Dr. as I did with Dr. Tufano.

For quite a long time, I felt absolutely lousy. I had no energy, everything hurt and I didn't want to participate in much of anything. My primary doctor suggested that I might be depressed. (That always seems to be their diagnosis when they cannot find the reason for symptoms!) It was then suggested to me to seek time with an endocrinologist. It was discovered that I had hyperparathyroid disease. I consulted with Dr. Tufano shortly afterwards - - he was highly recommended as the VERY BEST in Sarasota! I met Dr Tufano while he was at Johns Hopkins where my endocrinologist is. We had a surgical consult in 2020 for a possible 2nd thyroid surgery and he was very hands on (did ultrasound), caring and took the time to answer all our questions. Fast forward 2 years and it came time for me to have a second thyroid surgery and we looked no further than Dr Tufano. We had a video call with him prior to surgery to go over his expectations for surgery (central neck re-section and left neck dissection due to Medullary Thyroid Cancer) and he impressed us by remembering the initial consult 2 years prior! The hospital staff took great care of me before, during and after surgery.
