We
had
been
starving
for
live
performance
all
through
the
days
of
COVID,
so
we
were
pleased
to
see
that
the
Pensacola
Opera
was
staging
The
Elixir
of
Love
when
we
were
traveling
to
Pensacola.
It
was
the
company's
artists
in
residence
opera,
staged
at
their
facilities,
social
distanced,
etc.
We
didn't
know
what
to
expect
and
we
were
shockingly
impressed.
They
adapted
the
Donizetti
work,
setting
it
in
a
'50s
high
school
and
creating
English
dialog.
They
left
the
arias
alone.
In
any
case,
it
all
worked.
It
was
funny,
the
story
fit
well,
the
young
singers
were
EXCELLENT,
and
they
were
great
actors
as
well...which
was
very
important
considering
the
intimate
setting.
Kameron
Lopreore's
Una
Furtiva
Lagrima
was
delivered
with
extraordinary
passion
and
musicality.
Thanks
Pensacola
Opera
for
being
such
a
bright
spot
in
these
dreary
COVID
lockdown
days...and
thanks
to
Florida
for
giving
artists
and
businesses
some
ability
to
carry
on.
