I went last night at 10pm with my husband to take my 2 year old daughter that fell and couldn’t move her arm. We waited about 30 min but since emergency had many sick coughing people, my husband was right outside the hospital’s main glass door with my daughter waiting for me to call when it was time. They called her name I got up and in 5 seconds my husband was already walking in. The nurse asked if it was me I mentioned it was my daughter who was already inside where the nurse could see her and she said she had to call the next person yelling and with an extremely bad attitude. She cut me off, proceeded with the next person and told me to wait again. Not even 30 seconds did she have to wait. Not even a minute passed for her to skip over my daughter. We left. I do not recommend this place. It seems they have workers who are not passionate and definitely DO NOT ENJOY THEIR JOB. I would give it a zero if I could. Zero tolerance for mediocrity.

if I could give 0 or negative stars that would be more accurate. My wife was at saint francis for severe pain in her right side of her back and she was having tremors and shakes for ten or more minutes at a time on and off. UA revealed a raging kidney infection and severe swelling of her kidney. My wife was not seen by ANY licensed MD, only a nurse practitioner. This may be normal practice when you accept dozens more patients than you have resources for, but an MD MUST oversee the patients chart. This was NOT the case at Saint Francis and as a result My wife was left in pain as the strongest medicine an NP can prescribe is not nearly enough for kidney pain! Even worse is the fact my wife was sent home before a culture was done and the infection spread to both kidneys!!! Gross negligence at best, total incompetence more accurate. Anyone giving this place more than one star absolutely must be either a shareholder or a fake bot reviewer. Nobody in their right mind would approve of literally dozens of patients being treated and bedded in the ER waiting room….It’s absolutely unreal what they are getting g away with and it’s pure greed! Maybe some people are judging the hospital on how nice it looks rather than quality of care? I don’t know but this has to be criminal to practice medicine this way.

My mother went to ER and they admitted her overnight. There are no rooms currently and have her laying on a cot in the hallway! If you are going to admit her overnight for monitoring at least make sure she has a comfortable room to sleep in otherwise send her to another Bon secure hospital like St Marys Hospital! Just horrible!!!!!

ZERO STARS. Avoid this place at all costs!! I could write a full review on the awful/nonexistent care my father in law has received while at SFMC one the past few weeks, but the isn't enough time in the day. -Walked through the front doors on Sunday - no security, no visitor check in of any sort. Anyone (with a weapon or intent to harm) can walk through the front doors and up to any patient room they want. Not one single person approached us as we wandered around the patient care areas looking for a room. Unacceptable. -First impression walking in the building - aside from no greeter/security, the noddy was a mess with chairs scattered everywhere from a tree lighting from days ago. Major safety hazard. -Trash cans were overflowing throughout the lobbies and floors were filthy. Coffee pots in the open nursing stations(anyone can walk around them, access patient info and anything sitting around) were sitting empty on the burners just waiting to start a fire. The smell of burning coffee was everywhere. -Medical staff - if you could find one they were very nice and cordial, but try to find you assigned nurse/doctor or anyone willing to do ANYTHING was impossible. I know there are nursing shortages, but it should not take 3 hours to get something done as simple as bringing some water. For a hospital that boasts Magnet Recognition for nursing I expected way better care. Father in law was left laying in his bed for hours without acknowledgment, desperately needed to use the bathroom and nobody came for over two hours (then he had to be cleaned up, rashes from not being clean), urine bags/containers left overflowing(this is a result of almost a days wort of neglect), meals left on a tray at the opposite side of the room when they know he is not capable of getting out of bed to retrieve it. Straight up neglect. Unacceptable. -ZERO effort to help him get better via sitting up in bed, getting out of bed, physical therapy that was promised that never happened. Basically sit there and rot til we discharge you, not we want to all that we can to get you ready to go home. Shameful. SFMC was a model hospital over a decade ago, known for excellent care. Now it is one of the worst hospitals I have ever seen/experienced. Avoid at all costs!!

Seriously? Wait time forever. Been sitting here 2 hours and pretty much everyone has been seen before me. People just keep coming in and going ahead of me. I understand priority and I respect that. But everybody in a 2 hour period? I'm still waiting. Very disappointed in this fancy new hospital. Wish I had gone somewhere else.

Beautiful hospital. One of the nicest I have ever seen. That’s where the service ended. I was there for OP procedure. Nurse comes back calls the patient and when asked if family can come back. “No” no introduction, no explanation, no time frame or next steps Just … do you have the paper with the code? 3 hours later I get a call from the nurse to bring the car around. Discharge instructions are 24 hours clear liquids and follow up in 4-6 months. She can’t tell me what grade he is at or if he has to have this again. Only that they fixed 3 spots. $1200 up front on day of procedure plus whatever the insurance pays. The procedure itself was less than 30 minutes and the doctor couldn’t make a 2 minute phone call to update me. Cafeteria was posted as open until 1030, they were closed at 1005. Valet parking too busy to assist. There was a long way to the parking lot and no shuttle assistance. The bathrooms, waiting rooms and hospital appeared clean. Grounds beautiful. Terrible customer service.

I am putting this review out there because I feel that some nurses need to understand their impact good and bad. Unfortunately my family had a bad experience with Steph in the icu. Steph could not provide us with any answers and did not recognize there was an issue with my mother in law who just had a tracheotomy. When we walked in the room we immediately knew there was a problem. My mother in law was swelling like she was having an allergic reaction of some sort. When I asked what was going on they could not tell me and acted as though I was bothering them. We did not get any response until we said you better get someone in here now. Then everyone came in. Unfortunately my mother in law passed. But I could not believe this one nurse who went so far as to throw her hands up in the air. As I stood by while my mother in law was struggling and had passed she then had the audacity to lip to me she was sorry. I really believe that this could have had a better outcome had more attention been paid to my mother in law. I would not recommend this nurse or hospital due to this situation. If you are going to work as a nurse you should be able to understand family questions and get the help they need. I also do not understand how a icu doctor remains on a screen and no ER doctor or icu doctor ever came to the room. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. Absolutely ridiculous that they put her in a room much like being placed in a closet and forgot about her. If someone gets a tracheotomy I would think someone would have been by her side until she recovered but no not here.

I wish I could give them 0 star. I went in today for an outpatient procedure. I checked in at 9 am but didn’t see the doctor until 1 pm. The surgery prep room was so tiny that the nurse could barely fit in the room. It felt like a jail cell. I have anxiety and being stuck to a bed in a tiny room surrounded by walls for hours was very triggering. Plus, they were renovating the building and the noise was so loud I could barely hear nurses talking let alone resting. Overall, very poor, stressful experience. I would never go back to this hospital and I suggest you wouldn’t either if you have a choice

I came into the ER due to a car accident, I was feeling sore and had a major headache due to the impact of the collision. Both the Receptionist and the Registrar were polite, and so was the Nurse who called me into the back. Upon going into the back room, there were three Nurses in total, including the one who had called me back into the room and it was pretty awkward when I was asked to unzip my hoodie so that the one Nurse could feel for any broken bones, hear my breathing, etc. as all of the Nurses were staring at me during the entire process. I had spoken to them regarding my reason for my visit, and they were joking about the issue and asked me how fast I was going even after I had told them that I wasn’t even at fault for the accident. Still wondering what was so funny about me almost losing my life, but I digress. Overall, the one Nurse who was doing my vitals, etc., told me that even though I had hit my head during the accident that I probably only have a concussion and that I needed to take some prescribed medication. He made it seem like it was absolutely no big deal… also, I really just want to know how can someone rule out a concussion when they haven’t even given me a proper check-up, ran any tests, etc. When asking if I could get a CT Scan, he assured me that a CT Scan wouldn’t even show whether or not I had a concussion… which I found interesting, because I had visited this same ER for a head injury prior in July and they gave me a CT Scan. Either way, I could tell that he didn’t feel like doing his job and that he didn’t necessarily care to make sure that I was ok. I was sent home, and I was glad to leave because I just knew that they didn’t want to help me. I will be going to another ER to get the proper CT Scan and X-Ray’s, because I could very well have blood on my brain, or worse and wouldn’t even know until I either get checked at another facility, or if something were to happen to me. They did not exactly hire Saints, and I will not be returning to this ER in the future.

Do not go to this hospital. The ER reception and intake was friendly and considerate. That is where it ends. I was in so much pain they took me right to the back. The ER doctor on call December 25, 2022, around 12 pm was horrible and did not care about taking care of his patients or doing the right thing for their well-being. An IV was placed in my arm after about an hour and I was sent back to the waiting room without even a drip connected to the IV. Even though it was hard to sit up, they refused to give me even a chair, after begging for somewhere even a chair to lay in to help relieve the head pain. I was told they had no where for me. But there were open beds and reclining chairs that clearly looked empty in the ER hallway. They took some patients that came in with minor issues and even treated ahead of others who were more in need. They had no problem allowing others to use the same reclining chairs that I was denied prior. The doctor did not attempt to examine me not once, only a 2 minute conversation. The doctor refused to perform an outpatient procedure that I was sent to the ER to get done because their surgical center was close performed my surgery days before. The doctor sent me home after 4 hours with medication that did not help my pain at all. I ended up going to Johnson Willis hospital the next day to get the procedure done because I was in so much pain and it was still a holiday. Johnson Willis hospital did more for me within 15 minutes of being there compared to 4 hours at St. Francis. Based on how I was treated by the ER doctor and his staff, I will never return to this hospital.

I noticed there are several one-star reviews for the ER so want to make the distinction our experience was at the Surgical Center. From admission to discharge, everything was seamless. We commented that the hospital felt like a resort (e.g., all the fountains, entrance, lobby area) and the woman at admissions commented that the hospital was purposefully designed to make visitors and patients feel more relaxed. You can tell someone did some human-centered designing for this hospital. For example, they have a patient tracking system so you can monitor progress on a screen. You get a number at admissions to protect privacy and you can see the patient's status on monitors placed throughout the waiting areas. And the waiting area chairs were actually comfortable. (The TVs annoyingly played infomercials the whole time so would recommend some earbuds.) But the most important part was the healthcare staff and the surgery itself -- and both were fantastic. Every doctor, nurse or technician we talked with was kind, compassionate and responsive. Discharge was also easy because there's a dedicated pick-up area in front of the hospital. So for us, a 5-star experience.

My wife started having contractions that were roughly 13 minutes apart so she called up to the hospital to see what the doctor wanted to do mind you we live an hour away from the hospital. My wife talked to doctor Laurel Wallace and was informed that it was pre labor contractions and not to worry about it and you could tell she had an attitude and didn’t want to deal with it. Well contractions started getting worse and closer together so we called back and told them we are coming. Finally made it to the hospital as I’m pulling up to the building my wife’s water broke in the front seat of my car. I ran into the hospital and got nurses to come out and a wheel chair, we rushed her into a room in the ER and within 10 minutes we arrived to the hospital at 7:51pm at 8:00pm our baby boy was born. Besides this incident everything else went smooth and everyone else was amazing to both of us. I came on here to make everyone aware of this doctor and give other woman a heads up!

Great staff, however the general area housing boom outgrew this hospital very quickly. Rooms are not available post surgery, patients stay in post-op recovery overnight and calling the main number, no one answers the phone. Quite stressful for patients, family members and staff.

Recently gave birth at St.Francis and I must say my experience was amazing!!! The entire labor and delivery staff and the recovery floor made my entire experience for me and my husband the best birth experience compared to my first (This is my 2nd child). If we decide to have another child I am DEFINITELY giving birth at st.Francis again!

Not happy. My husband arrived at 2am via ambulatory transport from the ER location. It’s 10:15 AM and we haven’t spoken to a Dr. When I call for the nurse because the IV machine constantly beeps, nobody comes, but when I walk down the hall they are all standing around talking. I really wish we could have gone to JW it is a far superior hospital. The communication at SF is sub-par at best.

My daughter was in the ER . The wait for a CT about 6 hours . 5 hours blood results. Work Staff was friendly. The chairs (0 stars ) in the ER patient room metal fold out chairs . Extremely uncomfortable. Feel like the communication could’ve been way better. The doctor could’ve explain the results but never came back to update us .

I have had my colonoscopy at this Hospital since 2012 and the experience is just Outstanding! Of course the 24hrs of cleaning out your body and not eating is anything but Glamorous, but these folks do everything to make this surgery absolutely painless and welcoming! Today, their entire was just Wonderful from the reception and registration folks to the actual surgery staff who treated me with Golden Gloves! I Must say Thank You to the following: Akinyi, Becky, Frank, Shelby, Dr. Lyons, Dr. Colquhan and Bill...Thank You So Much...You made it as Pleasant as it could possibly be!!

I underwent total knee replacement a week ago. From the pre-op thru discharge and the entire surgery experience I was overwhelmed by the care, kindness, and professionalism of everyone I encountered. Upon admission I was prepped by nurses Vivian and Nicole, who put me at ease when I was understandably nervous. They were kind and concerned about my comfort and well being. The anesthesiologists Dr Paul and Dr Jason were just as caring and supportive. They explained all procedures and gave me opportunities at each step to ask questions. Once in recovery, I was never ignored and always cared for. In my room following recovery I was checked on regularly but not intrusively. After ringing a call button I was always attended to quickly. Even during discharge, paperwork was quick and fully explained. This is my second surgery there. I seldom write reviews but had to share my positive experiences. Thank you to all who helped me while there.

The emergency room staff from intake to nurses are rude, and act as if it’s a bother to treat you, help you, or answer any questions. This has happened on multiple occasions, and then there’s the billing dept…. They have no clue what they are doing. They may or may not send out a bill, if they do, there is no breakdown of charges, and without any notice, they will send you to collections without any notice. Even if you miss just one payment. No calls or attempts to get a payment. They don’t care. They don’t try to work with you. They have no problems receiving payments, partial, or payment plan, but miss one date, and it’s sent over to be collected in full. Seems Bon Secours has gotten too big, and lost its humanity. Need to do a major in-house cleaning and start over in my opinion. I’ll go to urgent care next time, or another hospital. Even if it’s further away…..

2023 was a hard year for me. I was hospitalized 4 times all for differiently issues. 3 times we’re at St.Francis. On every occasion I received the highest level of care. But this last time on Dec.28th - 29th was truly astonishing. I was facing a completely unexpected gallbladder removal and was taken to the St. Francis ER. To say it was over crowded would be a gross understatement. There were no beds available in the hospital proper. The ER was swamped with all examination rooms full. They were forced to put reclining chairs and gurneys along every wall where there wasn’t a door. My assignment for the night in the ER was aisle B bed 3. Even with them facing all of this, Not once did I feel ignored or uncared for. The nursing staff was professional, compassionate and very caring. In the aisle there were no call buttons so all I needed to do was raise my hand and with very little time someone came to my aid. When I left in the morning for surgery I found the same level of professionalism and care in the Surgical unit. I was treated with patience and care as they explained everything to expect both durning and after Surgery. I found my entire surgical team to be personable and sensitive to my fears and needs. My recovery room nurse was a dream covering every detail in a pleasant and caring way that I could easily understand. Saint Francis will be my first choice for critical care as long as I live in The Richmond area. I thank each and every medical professional I encountered for their care. Each of you were all a God-send those 24 hours. Sincerely, Carol Gibbs Please forgive my typos!

Always have had a positive experience with this location despite me having Covid and having an attitude. You can tell these people, especially the one male nurse in purple scrubs were meant to be nurses. They go above and beyond and not even 12 hours later and I’m feeling so much better. Thank you guys so much!

My Dad George Brown would like to Thank everyone at Saint Francis Hospital. The service that was provided to my Dad was stellar. A special THANKS to Dr. Monahan who performed the surgery. Dr. Smith anesthetists and his staff letting my Dad know that they were going to keep him safe doing surgery. The wonderful two nurses Cat and Maria that cared for my Dad after the surgery. I have not experienced so many caring people that truly enjoyed what they do. My Dad wanted everyone to know that it did not feel like he was in a Hospital. It felt more like he was at a resort on vacation. Thanks again for everything keep up the amazing work you all do. MY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!❤

Unfortunately, I had to go to the ER the night before Easter due to a miscarriage. The admitting nurse that you first see that checks you in the one with the short hair and the Bob that’s the one I’m talking about here nobody else. After calling me to the back, the nurse spoke with me a doctor immediately came in and spoke with me as well. I don’t know what it was about this lady that she didn’t like about me or what it was I wasn’t rude I was quiet and I felt very shy like a little kid because I was terrified of the fact that I was possibly losing my baby, so that being said, she then asks my fiancé to leave the room after the doctor leaves so she can take blood from me. I proceeded to ask her where is easiest for her because I’ve had a lot of people try to find my tiny veins and it can be quite difficult. I did not mention the fact that I have been stuck over 13 times in one sitting and that’s numerous times that that’s happened to me, so just know I’ve had people who don’t know how to take blood before I’ve had people who do know how to take blood before and this particular admitting nurse is the worst. She didn’t try to find my veins . She shoved the needle in my arm high, then Winced in pain and tear started to form, but I held them back. She looked at me, shoved it in again, and then again, she didn’t take it out. She shoved it deeper and deeper and deeper till I yelped out in pain she wasn’t looking for a vein she was trying to inflict pain on me I guess because she was trying to get off of work because right after she sits me out and says very loudly and bluntly and very rudely that somebody needed to come handle me and take my Blood funny the next nurse that came about took my blood with no problem I didn’t cry I felt no pain, and I definitely did not feel violated the way I felt when she did what she did to me . And right before this nurse took my blood that same nurse with the Bob cut the intake. Nurse was getting off work so now I’m realizing she didn’t even want to deal with me as a patient. If she didn’t want to actually do her job, she shouldn’t be there if she cares so much about getting off work then maybe she should be off permanently with no pay! As somebody who has been through sexual trauma as a child, that is exactly how that lady made me feel. I mean you’re literally sticking something inside of my body the least you could do was actually have some empathy and compassion, but she seem to have zero. She had a lot of hatred. She had a lot of anger, a lot of resentment, but she seemed to be the only problem that night. Everyone else was amazing. The ultrasound tech was the same ultrasound tech I had two months ago when I was pregnant. She was amazing but the intake night nurse has got to go and I will be calling in today to make a formal complaint.

The staff is great and awesome place to work. However they just changed food companies and the new food they’re serving now is god awful. All other coworkers who came from different bon secours facilities used to rave about how good the food was at this location when they’d come for training.

Arrived at the ER earlier today. The ER was busy. The nurses were all wonderful! They all treated my handicapped adult daughter with dignity and kindness. They were very helpful and courteous to us all. The doctor listened to our concerns and worked with us!

DONT GO HERE! The worst hospital ever. I recently visited the ER and unfortunately had a terrible experience. Upon arrival, I was extremely sick and weak, and despite this, I was placed in a chair in the ER hallway and left forgotten. I sat there for quite some time before I decided to leave and go to a new hospital. It wasn't until I disclosed my intentions to leave that a doctor finally came to see me. While receiving my IV, another nurse came and moved me back to the waiting room. I can't comprehend how a hospital's first priority isn't the comfort and care of their sick patients. I highly recommend going elsewhere for your medical needs. St. Mary's is a much better option.

Took my mother for excruciating sciatic pain. The ER wait room wasn't typical - looked more like an office visit (nice!). Although the wait to see a doctor was long [got there @ 10 pm, left at 3 am], the registration and triage intake personnel were very helpful and attentive. Once she was called to the back, her x-rays and doctor examination was very thorough and quick. I think it was just coincidence that the ER was soo busy that night because the staffers even kept commenting on how that night was unusually busy. I would come back here FIRST if I had an option!

I was in the ER for nearly eight hours before I was seen for a debilitating back injury. They gave me crutches, one Valium, sent me home, and charged me over 800 dollars. The second time I went here, I took my son in for a concussion. We were there nearly five hours, including over an hour wait just waiting for discharge instructions that I had to ask for multiple times. The person who brought them to us said we’d been forgotten about. This is the worst ER I have ever seen, and I worked in EMS for almost two decades.

I spent 3 days in ICU and 6 days on the fifth floor. I was treated with dignity at all times even in my lowest point (bed pan). All the nurses I came in contact with were caring and willing to answer my questions. The doctors were honest with me about my treatment. I couldn't have asked for better treatment.

I go to this hospital for all of my stays. I never have an issue with the staff. Most of the time it’s a doctor that will come off rude but- this time it was a female nurse. I wish I wasn’t blacked out, I would have gotten her name. I came into the emergency room severely dehydrated and blacked out from alcohol - she kept joking to the staff about how I had one too many white claws. Literally she was laughing at me… while I was puking, I couldn’t see around me and I could barely talk. She was being extremely unprofessional and made me super uncomfortable and upset. I started crying because I couldn’t communicate how I was feeling. She kept asking me “ why are you crying???” Repeating it, like still teasing me with this tone. Whoever that nurse was, get out of the hospital because that job isn’t for you. All of the other nurses took me seriously and helped me, and the toxicologist Aron I think his name was.. he was a great guy! He made me smile before I left. Which is nice because not many people smile when they go to the hospital.

First time coming to this emergency room, and regardless of the pain I will feeling they did everything in their power to make me comfortable. I had no wait time. They took me in immediately and treated me with the best care. Hospital was clean. All employees from the front desk, to nurses, to the physicians were excellent and provided me with the best care possible. Thank you St Francis and all their employees!

I had to go to the E.R with severe back pain. Being 33 weeks pregnant I didn’t know what to expect. First time being at the hospital I’ll deliver at, and I had the best experience the moment I walked in. From being checked in, getting my vitals done.. then while I was up in labor and a delivery. The nurses were the best, and the doctor was so tentative and explained everything to me. He took his time and spent time with me. Turns out it was kidney stones which I have never had before. So to Dr. Thompson and his angel of nurses and everyone that I came in contact with.. thank you for providing me the best I have ever had at a hospital. I am so glad I will be delivering my baby at this hospital.
