What a great service and ambience! The manager was super nice to us and considerate about our time! The server too - witty and professional in the right way. They definitely have experience in catering - such a great chemistry. Plus, the locale is very well decorated with Chinese inspired themes. It brings you back to China! The food was definitely great! Better than many other restaurants in NY that make Sichuan food - this one is legit spicy! Also they have the staple Chinese Qingdao beer. They served our food so fast! I just hope our pickled fish soup was a little less spicy and more sour. The eggplants were amazing!

Delicious, authentic food and amazing service. This was my first experience eating indoors in over two years, and it was lovely. We made a reservation and were greeted by name upon entry. All staff were properly masked and our vaccination cards were checked. My friend is vegan and there were several options. We shared the cold tofu appetizer with celery shoots (scrumptious! See photo), and she had spicy green beans. I enjoyed pork and bamboo shoots, and we tried purple rice. The food was so very reminiscent of my Chinese father's cooking. The staff was attentive - even cleaning the table when we spilled some. Very clean and spacious, lovely decor, with an exceptionally clean bathroom. Truly wonderful experience all around. I believe 美麗 translates to beautiful, and that is exactly what this restaurant is.

Chili, not to confuse with the chain restaurant Chili’s, is an authentic Sichuan restaurant located in midtown Manhattan few blocks from the Empire State Building. Walking through those doors revealed how packed it is inside with vintage and upscale Chinese decor. Believe it or not, we’re already in the 20s but let’s take a step back into the 30s. 1930s. Beautiful vintage chandeliers, wall lights, Chinese ads, decorations, spinning fan ceilings, and friendly staffs are all over the restaurant. William served us this evening with superb hospitality. Our cocktails are eye catching and tasty. Despite being so busy, our food came out in lightning speeds. Even though Chili is both vintage and classic, they also integrated modernness into their dishes. Take a bite and you can tell all the chef cooked with care and heart. Desserts are also amazing retaining all classic flavors with a modern twist. The egg yolk bun bursts with leaky fillings so be careful. Let it cool down a bit before biting into it.

So glad I found another amazing Szechuan place! Everything we got was delicious— the string beans, spicy braised tofu with fish, and Dan Dan noodles. The fish was fresh, as you would expect but unfortunately I’ve come across a lot of times at Chinese restaurants where the fish fillet smelled or tasted not fresh at all. Service was extremely fast. Looking around the restaurant other people had a bunch of other dishes that looked amazing, excited to come back and try them!

Excellent, impeccable food, but servers seem a little checked out. I got there a bit earlier than the rest of my party and looked at the menu. I wanted to order a drink but no one came to check on me for 5 mins until I flagged down a waiter. There was only 1 other table at the restaurant and about 4 wait staff milling around ignoring me. The food, however, is excellent, so I would unequivocally recommend this place. The dumplings in chili oil and dry pot crispy carp were especially wonderful. I'd go back just for those.

This place was such a treat! The wait staff is so friendly and service was amazing. We ordered off the dim sum menu. The pork dumpling in chili oil had the most tasty sauce I probably have ever had with a dish like this. The wonton chili is also amazing with the best flavor. The soup dumplings are delicious. And the scallion cakes are some of the best I've had, so crispy and light. The 1920s vibe of the place was also adorable and just made it so fun to experience. Next time I'm in NYC I will definitely be back and likely multiple times!

I warmly recommend visiting what I believe is the best Chinese restaurant in Manhattan. Finally a place that serves delicious, authentic, traditional and ACTUALLY spicy food and drinks. Everything we ate was amazing (and we really ordered a lot of food), the cumin lamb was rich, hot, and packed with flavor, the fish stew was to die for (best broth I have ever had), she soup dumplings plump and juicy, and the fried rice sheer perfection. The service was impeccable and the restaurant gorgeous, I loved the old Shanghai jazz bar-inspired prints on the wall. Also, it’s the first time that I see 白酒 on the menu of a Chinese restaurant in Manhattan, which adds to the authenticity of the food served. Truly an amazing experience and I can’t wait to go back.

Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. Every single thing we ordered was delicious and so flavorful. I’m very picky about my Sichuan food and Chili exceeded my expectations. Definitely try the scallion beef pancake roll and the golden corn with salted egg yolk! (But really, try everything we ordered **see photos**) Interior is such a vibe. Service is incredible. We are in love. Will definitely come back regularly.

WOW! This place is great and glad we were able to dine here before it blows up. They opened the restaurant only 1 month ago and are still experimenting with the menu (we were given a complimentary plum drink they are experimenting with and also saw another table try a banana pudding dessert) Food (5/5): Food was amazing here. We knew we were in for a treat when the cucumber salad arrived. What looks like unassuming pieces of cucumber were actually coated in a flavorful sauce which were perfect for whetting our appetite. As soon as we were done with the salad appetizer, our main dishes the spicy cumin lamb and chicken came (both spicy, as we ordered). These were delicious! I loved the numbing Szechuan flavors and abundance of spice they used for these dishes. The chicken was supremely crunchy and had a great floral aroma. The lamb was my favorite and was incredibly tender, not at all gamy, and was lightly coated in sauce. Service (5/5): I hope this stays consistent as they get bigger and bigger! We were served by Kinglsey who was awesome. He was very gracious, helped us navigate the menu and made suggestions, and was very attentive and asked if we needed anything throughout the meal. The other waitstaff were also equally courteous and helped us even though they weren't officially waiting on our table. Ambiance (5/5): It's a small shop and narrow, but has plenty of seating and I loved the decor. We were seated across from each other. Will be back here for sure to try the other dishes. Everything looked very good but we only got to try a small portion of the menu.

Wonderful food with an amazing decor. The design of the restaurant brings you back to old time Chinese vibes which is so cool! Pair that together with the awesome food that has authentic taste. It was a wonder dinner here. Remember to book in advance as it was packed on a weekday night!

I'd have to agree with most of the reviews posted here - the best chinese restaurant in manhattan! Visited for the second time and had an amazing experience. I was impressed by the diverse range of dishes they have and how authentic and flavorful they are! Absolutely loved our Fish Stew and Tea Smoked Duck. Good vibes and decor too. Good for groups and shared plates. Reserve in advance if you can because this place gets very busy.

Came here after seeing the chefs playing mahjong in the outdoor patio! It looks like I got transported back into the 80s, love the interior design. The sauce for the spicy wontons were super aromatic, nothing I've ever had before, definitely recommend! Huge portions for the spicy pork with bamboo shoots. Tea smoked duck was aromatic but on the drier side.

Ordered the pork dumplings in chili oil, duck fried rice, bok choy, chungking chicken, and kung pao chicken. Our food came out within 5ish minutes of ordering, super fast and friendly service! It tasted like quality, authentic sichuan. Chungking chicken makes your mouth tingle from the sichuan. Not my favorite since it’s not your traditional spice. Pork dumplings in chili oil were okay. Duck fried rice was a hit! Bok choy was a nice addition to the meal; it’s seasoned with garlic which adds good flavor. Kung Pao chicken was good too. Overall, good food and great service!

It’s always a pleasant place to go to! Decent food, nicely flavored - this time they served a new year menu with fresh new cuisines to test the water. Tried two of them and they were good - they are especially good with processing meat and making it soft and tender. Service quality was good and staff was attentive to each table. The whole decor radiates Chinese/Asian feeling and yet the staff and customers are from all over - food brings us together. 😋

Absolute fire. The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch! Lucky to get a table and have such a wonderful meal. Started with the jellyfish salad and the beef tendon and they did not disappoint! Great flavors! Very nice way to start! Entrees were divine. Beef with green chilis, fish in the red stew and a cabbage hotpot. All had such great flavor profiles and varying levels for spice! Finished off with a wonderful dessert, the red wine soup! I am excited to come back again soon and try their lunch specials too!

Excellent Chinese food and a great price if you catch the lunch special. The duck fried rice was literally the best fried rice I've ever had. The only issue was that my wife has a sensitivity to ginger, and there apparently was ginger in her Kung Pao, even though it wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu. That being said, the only reason she stopped eating it was because of her ginger sensitivity, the flavor was amazing!

Really cute inside - old style China. Waiters are dressed the part too! Interesting cocktails and delicious food in a rowdy but classy environment! My only complaint is that even the food marked as spicy isn’t really that spicy 👀 or perhaps. I am too strong… Definitely recommend the crab tofu even though it is actually a Shanghainese specialty.

Went to Chili on a recent trip to NYC. Restaurant was recommended by a family member. It’s a small place & very busy on a Friday night therefore we had to wait half an hour for a table. We were just two people & didn’t order too much food. The vegetarian dumplings were ok but our main dish, suggested by our sweet server turned out to be not so great. It was big pieces of deep fried chicken with too much salt in it. My husband & I could not eat it at all & let our server know about this issue. He was sweet to offer another dish but we declined. He then told us he’ll take it off the bill. Much appreciated. We ate the preserved vegetable fried rice, which was tasty, & left the restaurant disappointed. Next time I’m in NYC, I’ll give chili another go, take a few more people with me & try out different dishes.

I recently visited this beautiful restaurant and was impressed by the amazing food they offer. The flavors were exquisite, and the portion sizes were generous, making it worth the price. However, I recommend making a reservation to avoid a lengthy waiting time. Overall, a delightful dining experience!

One of my favorite Chinese places. The food is great and so are the cocktails. I prefer to order several of the hot and cold appetizers then a few of the mains and share family-style as a table. There really isn’t much at this place you can go wrong with so choose whichever dishes get your attention.

Came here for lunch on a Friday, this place is super cute, old Shanghai decor and everyone also dress in here old Shanghai outfit. But don’t be fooled this is sichuan cuisine. The service is excellent, everyone is very friendly and attention to detail. The food on the other hand was alright, the fish fillet with tofu has so much starch and not spicy at all. The spicy cumin lamb needs a bit more cumin and chilies, it’s more like just a stir fried lamb meat. Mouth watering chicken is not what I remembered it might be their twist but didn’t do great.

Wow this place is phenomenal. Chili kept the original chef from Cafe China and it shows. Every single dish we ordered was a hit. Each item was wonderfully flavored and seasoned. We had the sour fish stew, duck fried rice, eggplant with garlic sauce, and cold sesame noodles. All were delicious, but what especially stood out were the noodles and duck fried rice. I’ll definitely have to be back to try more dishes!

Every dish we ordered was incredible. They also came out staggered and super fast so we got to enjoy 1-2 plates at a time. It was really nice to be able to savor them individually. The scallion pancake beef wrap was perfectly crispy, while not being too oily. The pork dumpling in chili oil was so soft and delicate. The lobster was the most flavorful I’ve had and the spices were so dynamic, while not being overpowering and I was still able to taste the lobster. The spicy chicken was super spicy! The ratio of chicken to crispy breading to sauce was perfect. The menu rated the lobster and spicy chicken as the same spicy levels, but I found the chicken to be twice as spicy. I was using the chili oil to cool my mouth lol. The cocktails were delicious as well- purple rain was my favorite!

The service here is great, especially because when you run low on water, the staff comes to refill you immediately. The food here was just okay. It might have been what I ordered or maybe an off night for the restaurant, but no particular dish seemed to stand out. Many of the dishes were drenched with chili oil and lacked memorable flavors or textures, but maybe that's the point that I didn't quite get while dining here. The decor of the place was nice (darker irl than it seems in the photos), but be prepared to hear what the adjacent tables are saying because the seating is a bit cramped within this location.

I loved the vibe and atmosphere that welcomed us at this restaurant. The staff was welcoming and kind. The food was superb!!! I mean everything was spot on cooked to perfection which was a pleasant experience. Ordered an entree for each person and the portions were so much that we didn't even finish and took to go! So so good!

Came here for a family dinner with my Asian parents. We got two cocktails and was amazed at the bubble one I ordered with the little show they put on. The food was really good Asian parents approved! Our parents loved the fried chili chicken, but it's a bit too spicy for me. The price point is pretty good considering the location is midtown Manhattan. Would definitely recommend and come back again!

Had a lunch with my friend. Everyone was super friendly, helpful and extremely kind. The order came fast and the ambience was great. It was lively, yet was able to have a private moment to catch up with my friend. We ordered a few dishes to share and everything was delicious.

The food was amazing - I don’t usually like lamb but loved their lamb. It’s also affordable. The atmosphere is lovely. Chill yet vibrant.

An amazing spot for a friendly hang out, a family gathering or celebrating a 20th birthday. Reservations for a party of 6 was quickly accommodated and the service was prestige. Waitstaff made sure your glass was never empty, plates were changed between each course and the hostess was pleasant to work with. The food was made to perfection: the cucumber salad is a must have with every meal, the tofu with celery shoots was truly savory, the scallion pancakes were crispy to perfection, the star was the poached Okra which had the perfect amount of spice and freshness to complement the entrees. The entrees: we ordered the fried rice with duck, spare ribs and the fish blossom. The food was delicious and overall cuisine was unique in its own way. I have never tried Sichuan food before and my company left CHILI truly impressed with the cuisine and all the flavor profiles displayed in each dish. This place is a def go to… btw… their cocktails and desserts are a must try…

CHILI might be one of my favorite restaurants in the city after my dining experience. The food was excellent, the service was great, and the ambiance was awesome inside; I loved the energy. I went with a group on a Saturday night. For our starters, we ordered the Mr and Mrs Smith, the Mung Bean Jelly, and the Beef Pancake Wrap. For our mains, we ordered the Truffle Beef Tenderloin, Spicy Cumin Lamb, Braised Fish Fillet w/ fish Blossom, and the Ma Po Tofu. We ordered the Rice Wine Soup as our dessert - you will not be disappointed :) Amazing dining experience! I will certainly be back in the future!

food was soooo good and the service was amazing. water glass was never empty and someone was constantly coming by and replacing our napkins with fresh ones. place was cozy and had nice lighting. cocktails were cute and tasty - get the purple rain for sure! the cold sesame noodles were great - someone comes by and mixes them tableside for you! the vegetable potstickers were delicious, i usually hate veggie dumplings but i couldn't stop eating these. scallion pancakes were great (crispy but not too oily - was perfection), and the salted egg yolk bun was a delight but the bun to filling ratio could be improved - too much bun, not enough filling. crispy coconut milk was unique but can't say i would order it again, was a little too heavy/oily for me.

So glad we finally enjoyed a meal here! A casual neighborhood restaurant (we were promptly seated without a reservation). Great service, reasonable prices and excellent food. I suggest trying several dishes as there are many unique options. (The spicy wontons were amazing!)

MUST HAVE! superb Sichuan food. The service was next level, if a move was made, they reacted accordingly. The drinks were great as well! The food was amazing and very quick and they were very transparent about everything - let’s say if something may not be available instantly, they were very transparent about it. The portions were large for entrees - one could feed two people. Happy to have chosen this restaurant for the chinese meal of the weekend i was looking for. Fair prices too ,will definitely return here!

Always on point and excellent quality consistent!! If you are looking for a good meal in NY and don’t mind the spice, definitely Chili is the place to be! Must try is the beef with pickled chili and soft shell crab, don’t forget to order a side of white rice you’ll need it! Must make a reservation if parties larger than 2. 2 people can get away with walk-ins and be seated in 15-20 mins.

Overall rating: 4.8 I have been wanting to go here since they open & so glad I finally did! Coming from Brooklyn, it’s a bit out of the way but so worth it 🤤 Note: price range $30-$50 is only without alcohol haha We tried around 6 and they quoted us at a wait time of 30-40 min. But it was really 10-15min. The host mentioned off peak hours are from 2-5 which makes sense. My friend and I had the green beans, sesame cold noodles & dumplings in chili oil. Love the green beans & cold noodles. Dumplings were just pork dumplings in chili oil & overhyped. Nothing special if you’re already a regular to Trader Joe’s chili oil. The showcase of the night was the rice wine dessert. Very unique having never had it before and the smoke was definitely worth the full experience. Friendly staff and quick service. Highly recommend & will be coming back to try other dishes.
