In 2018 I was an active 60 something in Atlanta jogging, trail running, hiking and playing pickleball – outside doing something most everyday when I experienced what I thought was just a muscle strain in my hip. The discomfort progressed to pain when sitting and laying down and a long journey on the medical treadmill. After x-rays, MRIs, physical therapy and multiple steroid injections from 4 different Orthopedists, the pain persisted. We moved to Asheville in early 2020 and lack of activity options during the pandemic led to a brief respite to the problem, but it came back with a vengeance this summer (2022) and the search for relief continued. While awaiting another MRI and looking for options in Asheville, I found Dr. Pinkston’s website and scheduled a consultation. Dr. Pinkston spent a full hour reviewing my medical history, x-rays, talking with me to understand both the problem and my goals as well as a physical examination. He then explained OMT to me and how he could help. After one session, I noticed an improvement in my mobility and level of pain. After two, I stopped taking gabapentin and now with the third, I am slowly increasing my activity level. In addition to the OMT, Dr. Pinkston provided recommendations for exercises and a local physical therapist that could help continue my recovery. If you have been struggling with orthopedic related problems, I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Pinkston. He has helped me more in one month, than multiple specialists have in over 4 years.

An Excellent Experience Highly Recommended! I was quite impressed with my initial (free) consultation. Dr. Pinkston is a board certified physician also trained in non-surgical orthopedic treatments. During our one hour and 40 minute consultation (amazing), he asked me detailed questions and thoroughly explored my mobility issues, and he even performed an ultrasound (no charge) on my shoulder. He was unhurried, genuinely caring and I felt he approached my issues and my treatment plan as an individual. He did not promote a "cookie-cutter" approach which has too often happened in the past with other doctors. He answered all of my questions thoughtfully and to my satisfaction. On my second visit, I experienced my first osteopathic adjustment which was very different from a chiropractor or any other body work I have had. It was gentle and communication was ongoing throughout the process. The proof is in the result: I walked into the office with hip/leg pain and a limp I have had for 8 weeks. When I left, most of my discomfort was gone, as was my limp. It was am amazing experience, and I will continue to see Dr. Pinkston in the future.

If you’ve never experienced hands on osteopathy, you have missed out on a very powerful healing modality. We had 2 decades experience with a 3rd generation, excellent osteopath in Atlanta before moving to Asheville, but we’re unable to find a DO here that was hands on. Yesterday I had my first (but definitely not last) appointment with Dr. James Pinkston, who practices old fashioned osteopathy. In the 19 + years since I got whole back whiplash from being rear ended in my car, that one session provided me with more relief than any other one session from multiple modalities I’ve ever had in those 19 years. I have hope now that my declining condition might be at least somewhat reversed! I highly recommend Dr. Pinkston!

Dr. Pinkston is courteous, professional and thorough. I went in for a consultation, and he explained various alternatives to me in order to improve my condition. He took the time to listen to me and to explain various aspects of my issues. I highly recommend this doctor and I wish more doctors were like him.

As a recent transplant from California to eastern Tennessee, I was thrilled to find Dr. Pinkston and I gladly drove the 83 miles to see him. Our family has used osteopathic manual therapy over the years to heal from physical injuries, illnesses, trauma, and stress. The rigors and stress of moving caused my rheumatoid arthritis to flare after being in complete remission along with pain and stiffness in my neck and upper body. My body completely melted under his manual therapy. As I walked out, I felt a deep calmness and serenity in my physical body. My neck was so loose and free and my breathing was much deeper. Since then I have felt a deep restoration and know that my immune system has been reinvigorated. It is worth every bit of time and money to receive this kind of care and treatment.

I had a wonderful initial consultation with Dr. Pinkston who was very professional, informative, asked me all the right questions, listened well, took his time to locate and assess my joint pains, and offered great options to proceed with treatment. I felt like he was very thorough and really cared about me. His receptionist was friendly, efficient, and helpful as well. I really appreciated the close parking, and level well maintained access with no steps...perfect for those of us with mobility issues. The waiting room was clean and comfortable and I had no wait time to get in.

Dr. Pinkston was very available to answer any and all questions about my upcoming procedure as well as my ongoing care. He and Meg are both knowledgeable and helpful in all ways. The outcome of PRP is still to be determined. After three years and the misdiagnosis of two other Orthopedic Doctors, it has been a relief to have a more current informed diagnosis with what seems a thoughtful way to remedy my issues.

I had a wonderful and uplifting experience here. I was diagnosed with degenerative osteoarthritis at the beginning of the year and for many months was in constant pain and hardly able to be up and walk for more than 5 minutes. I have had physical therapy since May that helped a great deal but I had not been even contemplating a "normal" existence until I had a 3-session treatment with Dr. Pinkston. I now have virtually no pain and last week walked around a mall for over an hour, only resting once for about 5 minutes. All without any help, mechanical or otherwise. He is shy but congenial, patient and explains in great depth. As an addition, he remains aware of your entire body and he suggested a problem that could indicate a very serious condition and because of this I am able (if need be) to have extremely early treatment. It is too early to tell if I will need additional treatments, but already have them booked out to two-months hence in case I do.

I began seeing Dr. Pinkston in June 2023 for spinal stenois. He has done more for me in the past months, than any medical doctor has, since being diagnosed with spinal stenois in 2017. He thoroughly explained my lumbar MRIs, which no doctor has ever done. Even spine specialists who ordered the MRIs, never explained the results in detail and the only solutions offered were pain pills and surgery. The relief I receive from the osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is immediate and is currently lasting for a week and in some instances longer. I have recently added medical accupunture and this has greatly helped suppress my appetite which has allowed me to lose some weight and has helped with anxiety. Dr. Pinkston is truly genuine with an awesome personality and it shows in his work. He is professional, compassionate, enthusiastic and greatly knowledgeable about his work and in helping me get the relief from pain to live my life to the fullest! Dr. Pinkston is the real deal! The office is extremely clean and Meg at the front desk is friendly and great to work with! I am very pleased with Asheville Non-Surgical Orthopedics!!

I had the opportunity to see Dr Pnkston this week and I am so glad I did! I recently had a bad accident a fall from a tall laddar. I fell over 15’ and really wanted to get confirmation from a professional. I knew the best person would be an Osteopthic Orthopedic. I chose Dr Pinkston who evaluated my injury and the visit went well. Dr Pinkston took his time and had a great bedside manner putting me at ease and taking the fear out of the visit. I highly recommend Dr Pinkston to anyone who is looking for a less invasive way to approach therapy. The practice employs manipulation and they take their time.

I was referred to Asheville Non-Surgical Orthopedics by my chiropractor for pain in lower back that was not resolving. Dr. Pinkston did a thorough examination and spent time asking questions and listening to my concerns. Suggested different options for my treatment. I have had considerable relief with the osteopathic treatment he has provided. Very caring and helpful.

I have had a wonderful experience with Dr Pinkston! He really listens, and you will have his undivided attention for your appointment. This is not a quick, 10 minute in and out treatment - he really is focused on whatever your problem may be, how to relieve your symptoms and things you can do to keep your symptoms from returning. I highly recommend him - I'm so glad that my husband and I found him!

Dr. Pinkston took plenty of time to evaluate and explain my situation and offered several different options, none of which included surgery! I am delighted to recommend both him and his assistant, Meg, who helpfully gave me good directions to their office.

I highly recommend Asheville Non-Surgical Orthopedics. Dr. Pinkston is a rare gem among doctors. Not only is he very knowledgable, he also took time to listen and explain everything to me thoroughly and answer all of my questions. I really appreciate this because oftentimes I feel that doctors will dumb down information unnecessarily or not be transparent about their thought process because they feel that you won't understand them or need to know. Dr. Pinkston treats me like an equal and you can tell that he very much cares about my feelings and intuition I have about my own body and pain. It was easy to trust him. I received a hydrodissection procedure for my chronic neck pain, which I've been dealing with for 4 years following a weightlifting injury. I was definitely feeling nervous about having an injection go into my neck, but Dr. Pinkston and Meg made me feel at ease and it was not painful at all. So far the procedure has been a huge success. Not only has my pain been greatly reduced, but I didn't even realize until it was gone how much tension I had been carrying in my neck and shoulders, which is now also greatly relieved. It feels like a miracle. I also appreciate how much care they have taken in the follow up and how easy it has been to get ahold of the doctor and Meg. I feel very fortunate to have found them! **Update! It’s been 3 months since the procedure and I’m happy to report that I have had a complete resolution of my pain!! With only one treatment! I’ve been able to start strength training again and doing all activities with no pain. I am so incredibly grateful for Dr. Pinkston! This is truly miraculous given how much pain and discomfort I had been experiencing for so long and how inhibiting it was for me!! I feel blessed to have found Asheville NSO and will forever be grateful and recommend everyone I know to them.

I had non-healing fractures of my ribs following a fall. The insurance wouldn't pay for a bone stimulator and surgery is not something I wanted to consider unless I had to. Dr. Pinkston suggested we do PRP injection. I'm delighted to say that after many months of pain and limited mobility, I am beginning to get my activity level back up and able to many things I had difficulty with before. I highly recommend Dr. Pinkston and his crew and I will be returning to address some other chronic orthopedic issues.

Dr. Pinkston was very helpful with treating my injury. I was up and ready to go perform that same day! He answered all of my questions in detail and showed great knowledge in his field. Highly recommend!

I was very impressed with Dr. Pinkston and his practice. He took great care to make sure we were well-informed of procedures and has a very calm and soothing manner. We experienced watching an ultrasound on the knee and seeing the internal injuries and his suggestions for treatment, he took time with explaining and demonstrating manipulation of neck and shoulder muscles for pain that prevented full rotation of the head, and he placed tiny acupuncture tabs (an exciting new form of acupuncture not using the long needles) in the ear for locations of pain in the body and even for anxiety, and I just completed my week of wearing these and certainly noticed a lower anxiety level! Dr. Pinkston has my recommendation and best wishes for his practice in the years to come!

Dr. Pinkston is great! He is a smart and well educated young man. He reduced my neck pain significantly with Osteopathic Manipulation Treatment. After my first treatment I got hooked. I am now seeing him every week for treatment and I have never felt better. THANK YOU!

I appreciate Dr Pinkston taking the time to do an ultrasound on my achilles to show me the damage that has been done. He also did a great job of explaining all the options of treatments in layman terms. Although I did choose to go have surgery mainly because of insurance purposes, in the furture I would seriously consider using Dr Pinkston to avoid the negative setbacks that go along with surgery. His assistant Meg is awesome taking care of any logistics in a personal, timely manner.

I received bone marrow/mesenchymal stem cell treatment on both of my knees, and it's been quite amazing. For several weeks after, I experienced the sensation similar to the feeling the day after a leg workout, and I felt my the tissues around my knees getting stronger. Dr. Pinkston was excellent, and I'm looking to get the bone marrow treatment in my shoulders next! I highly recommend this procedure and Asheville Non-Surgical Orthopedics.

Dr. Pinkston is a great osteopath and the two treatments I’ve had with him provided significant relief from my symptoms. He takes the time to explain everything that he is doing thoroughly, as well as provide useful information for techniques to practice at home. Meg, who handles the front desk, is so kind, friendly, and flexible with scheduling. Highly recommend!

Dr. Pinkstin is a true healer. He is well learned, professional and considerate. He has several different modalities. Because of this he can address many root problems anyone may be experiencing. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is frustrated with their current car.

The initial consultation I had with Dr. Pinkston was extremely informative, thorough, and helpful. He definitely has the desire to help people and listen to their concerns, so I really appreciated that. Meg was also fantastic with patient communication. She made scheduling and even rescheduling (when needed) very easy.

Dr Pinkston is simply wonderful. Wish more doctors were like him. He really listens which is healing in and of itself. He is patient gentle and knowledgeable. I have an issue with my right hand being colder than my left hand and now my pinkie finger on my right hand is getting colder than the rest of my hand. Dr Pinkston gave me some ideas of how to self treat and told me what he could do to help. So I plan to see him and get a treatment as well as working on treating myself. What I also love about Dr Pinkston is that he does not pressure you into getting treatments from him but tries to understand your financial situation and help you to do what works best for you. I look forward to experiencing a Orthopedic treatment from him.

I enjoyed every part of my experience visiting Asheville Non-Surgical. The staff was professional, the office was clean and comfortable, and Dr. Pinkston's care was top-notch! I went into see Dr. Pinkston for chronic back pain, and while he very ably and very gently adjusted my back and was able to alleviate my pain, his goal, unlike many, was not to get me in weekly, but rather to get me fit and to a place where I no longer needed his help. Since going to Asheville Non-Surgical, the chronic pain that originally brought me to their door is gone, and I am on a path to better strength, over all fitness, and a better, more agile life.

I made an appointment for my visiting sister-in-law after reading the outstanding reviews about Dr. Pinkston. She has had terrible, daily pain in her lower body for a few years and no one has been able to pinpoint the problem or provide non-surgical options. Dr. Pinkston spent about 90 minutes listening, evaluating, making suggestions and establishing a plan. He is caring, a wonderful listener, kind, takes time to evaluate and explain what the possible causes are and offered several different short and long-term options: none of which included surgery or pain-killing meds. Most of all he offered hope and a future without pain. Unfortunately, she will have to seek help in PA but he immediately provided references and resources and offered to assist her in any way possible without in-person visits. We both agree it was one of the best experiences we've ever had with a medical professional. Meg deserves cheers too!

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Pinkston and was very impressed by his manner, his thoroughness, his patience and his kindness. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and throughout the visit, I knew immediately that this practice holds a great potential of improvement and healing. I've yet to schedule my next appointment, but wanted to share my first impression from my first visit!!!! Dr. Pinkston and Meg are both aMAZing!!!!!

Not your typical orthopedist visit. Asheville Non-Surgical Orthopedics was able to fit me in for a same day appointment. I suffered an acute neck injury which would have prevented me from providing care to my own patients for the rest of the week. I have many years of experience with allopathic orthopedics, who offer little to no advice on healing (more importantly preventing) neck injuries. Dr. Pinkston took his time to listen and pin-point my area of concern. My free consultation included osteopathic manipulation therapy. My neck mobility was instantly improved and my pain had decreased. I left the office feeling relieved that I have a plan to prevent this injury from occurring again, and a doctor to help me if it does!
