Warm and inviting atmosphere. Staff and cook are very friendly . The best VEGAN food in the area ! Very flavorful and well seasoned! Not too much oil .😊 I am spreading the word . You will definitely see more of me .

The food here is absolutely amazing! I will be back with my entire family. Edited: I finally brought my family back. They all loved the food. Such a warm welcoming place. You have to stop by and try it! Chef Salmon is hands down one of the best Jamaican chefs I know. Edited Again: Upstream you have outdone yourself again! My extended family wanted to experience the amazing cuisine I have been bragging about. So instead of all 40 of us taking the trip to the cafe, we ordered from their catering menu and feasted in the comfort of our own home. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered escovitch Fish (Whiting and Snapper), Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas, and Steamed Cabbage! The oxtail! Did I say the oxtail? The oxtail was finger licking good and fell off the bone! We appreciate Chef Garfield Salmon and his Wife Shereen Salmon for their expertise. They left no stone unturned and the Smith family was well pleased and well fed! My family and I visited upstream Café this past Saturday and needless to say, we had an amazing experience. First, we were greeted with the biggest smile you could imagine 😂 Secondly, we were served the most delicious and refreshing pink lemonade called Jo-Jo lemonade, then we couldn’t decide what to get on the menu as everything looked so delicious 😋 We went with snapper fish with veg and spinach rice, jerk chicken veg, and spinach rice, honey barbecue chicken with crispy french fries, freshly fried festivals and Red velvet cake and chocolate cake for dessert 😂😂 Can’t wait to go back to enjoy more delicious food from Upstream Café After eating, laughing and hanging out with our friends, we made our way to the Walk Over Hudson Bridge. Beautiful view and Great place for exercise to burn some of the calories lol.

This is one of Poughkeepsie’s best kept secrets!!! This place has the BEST JAMAICAN FOOD in the Hudson valley! Their food is made fresh and it’s reflected in the taste. I came here one day after my friend raved about them, best decision ever. I ordered the curried goat and it was the best curried goat I have ever had. I came back the following day and ordered the same thing! The service is also great, if you are looking for a nice wholesome family business to support AND get GREAT food, give them a try.

This Carib. restaurant is a must go! The food is wonderful. The service and atmosphere is great. You are greeted with warm smiles and friendliness unlike other Carib. restaurants. The food is not salty and they serve with the right portion size. The home- made drinks are refreshing too.

Wonderful Gourmet Jamaican food!! Quality, Quality, Quality!! Oxtails, chicken stew, and red snapper were our meal of choice for our party of 5. The prior reviews did not disappoint!!! The food matched the ambience and warm hospitality we received. The food is cooked to order which completely makes the difference, instead of keeping it in warmers. The culinary expertise definitely shows up not only in presentation, but absolutely in flavors. Additionally, we tried the sorrel drink, and this is the best I've had. It is so refreshing and a nice compliment to the meal. Grab a few pastries items to go like a fresh croissant or chocolate croissant and cookies for later. We can't wait to come back!!! This restaurant and excellent customer service is exactly what the Hudson Valley needs!!!

My experience coming to this Cafe was amazing since my friend and I entered the door we were greeted by a very nice lady. I had rice and peas with curry chicken and it was great, it wasn’t greasy, and it had flavor, I also had a passion fruit lemonade and it was very refreshing. The entire place is very clean and cozy. I never give a review but I love a great customer service experience and this was the best I I’ve had in my entire life and going to different restaurants.

I have been to this wonderful family owned restaurant several times already and am ashamed to admit this is my first review. Upscale homemade Jamilcan food served in a comfortable clean space. The homemade juices such as sorrel are delicious. Just had the ox-tail dinner and it was finger licking good. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Highly recommend.

Hands down, the best restaurant in Poughkeepsie! Everyone was so kinda and attentive. The food was so flavorful, felt like it was made with love. I had the curry shrimp, it was absolutely delicious! The mac and cheese was seasoned perfectly, they even mixed in some oxtail gravy in there for us! I can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu. The ambiance is warm and cozy, feels like ur family! Will definitely be back!

Such great service and warm + cozy atmosphere. The family that owns the restaurant is so kind and welcoming, and of course the food is amazing! Lots of veggie and vegan options too. Definetely coming back and hoping to snag the cute airbnb they have upstairs too :) becoming friends with the host and chef made my night!

Upstream Cafe catered a luncheon at my daughter's school, and their owners were terrific to work with, from start to finish. Shereen and Chef Garfield Salmon are professional, kind, and clearly talented at what they do, offering a wonderful variety of great dishes. Their Jerk Chicken with Pineapple Salsa, Stir Fried Vegetables, Seared Chicken Breast with the Chef's Specialty Sauce, and Ital Stew were all flavorful and popular dishes, and their vegan selections were especially great to find when planning. Their cafe is also very warm and cozy, their desserts delicious, and the mac n cheese and chickpea roti are my personal favorites. Echoing the praise found in many of the Google reviews, I'd also agree that Upstream Cafe is truly a gem in Poughkeepsie. Thank you!

I kept on hearing from word of mouth, how amazing this place was, so I had to try and boy was I upset, I didn't try it sooner! What a gem! Sooo incredible, top notch cuisine of many options for vegans and meat/seafood lovers. The chef is welcoming of presence and culinary skills! Flavorful food and drinks. A restaurant I will continue to enjoy and support!

Very homey and friendly atmosphere. Taste is authentic, fresh, and delicious. As far as their home made fruit/ veggie juices..the pineapple ginger is AMAZING! (As I'm sure the other ones are as well). Looking forward to my next palette party!

What a lovely Cafe! The staff is very pleasant, the peanut punch is an entire meal that fills me up. Also, as a vegan this spot is a gem on Poughkeepsie's Main Street. Try their oyster mushroom plate but make sure to ask for the turmeric sauce.
