In March 2022, I had an accident with a Circular Saw in which I was transported to St. Als Boise because it is the only "Trauma Center" in the area. The emergency room staff were great, my surgeon was great, but the problem lies with the OR. I had an open fracture because I nearly cut my fingers off (pinky was hanging on with tissue) but I had to wait for 29 hours to have surgery to fix them. My doctor tried numerous times to get me into the OR but was unable to. My surgery was suppose to be an out patient surgery according to my doctor and it only took 1 hour when we finally got in to the OR. But due to having to wait so long for surgery and being on dilaudid for pain that long, they were unable to get my oxygen level under control so I had to spend a second night in the hospital on oxygen to control it. I was continually told that the reason we had to wait so long to get into surgery was because the hospital was short staffed due to terminating the staff for refusing to be vaccinated for covid. Pretty poor excuse of you asked me. What kind of service is this hospital providing? Obviously none. I would never recommend anyone to go to this establishment. Especially if they want good service. Pretty sad state of affairs.

My mom received the worst medical care I’ve ever witnessed here. My mom was transferred from another hospital very ill. We were told she was accepted as a transfer and that all of her records were sent. We were checked in through the ED which was expected. What was not expected is the 2 hour wait before a nurse even came to check on her. And that was after me waiting in the hallway trying to find someone to tell I was concerned. We did not see or talk to a doctor for 6 hours. My mom was suppose to be admitted and hospitalized. Little to our knowledge, they didn’t have any “beds” available for her to be hospitalized. So she stayed in the ED bed for 2 days. They didn’t even start fluids on her until 19 hours after she arrived. Mind you she came in with an IV catheter with the intent of her being hospitalized. The staff was completely overwhelmed. There was very little communication from the doctors about what the plan was. And any plan that was communicated, didn’t even happen. One nurse almost gave my mom the wrong medication. And I am the one that noticed and stopped her. My mom had abdominal surgery a couple days prior, and was suppose to be having another procedure with a GI doctor, this is why she was transferred. Because of this she was suppose to not have any thing to eat or drink and they kept bringing her food??? The morning the procedure was suppose to happen the nurse brought in breakfast and said you can eat your not having a procedure today. And that had not been communicated to her at all until then. She just broke down bawling. Please, if you have a choice do not bring your loved ones here.

My grandpa sadly had a stroke that ultimately took his life. He was transported to St. Al's because of them being the trauma center. My family was VERY disappointed in one of the nurses we had on the end of life floor. Yes, I get there are stupid COVID rules, but we had a family member dying. Sue us for wanting to say our goodbyes to a loved one. The last thing we cared about was a fake virus. This horrible lady (Nurse) came in acting like she was better than everyone else, stood over my dying grandpa and bereded us and lectured us like we were in Kindergarten for having too many people in the room. It was so unprofessional and extremely rude. It has been 6 months since he passed there, and this lady still haunts me. I wish I would have gotten her name because I would really like to tell her how inconsiderate and unprofessional she was that day (I would have told her that day, but we were so emotional already, and it just wasn't the time or place). Maybe you shouldn't work on the end of life floor if you have zero regard or feelings for what is happening in someone's life. Absolutely uncalled for!

If i could give a zero star to the main entrance staff and the courtesy of the support cafeteria staff i would. From the very 1st encounter with the front desk my elderly mother was told that she needed to park her vehicle in a handicap during a snow storm when her scooter is not rated for the snow or water. She was there to bring my father in for eye surgery so he could not see to park the van. They had looked on the website are it still said valet parking was available so they did not make any further arrangements. The front desk lady was extremely rude to my mother during the whole experience. They would never be back to this facility if it wasn't for the doctor doing the surgery. Maybe you should work on your employees a little more with hospitality. If you can avoid this place please do so and go to a real Hospital where they actually care about people and their feelings.

From the intensive care to the Neurological departments the customer service is below par. They do not communicate on what required documents are needed to be seen. They do not help you in a timely manner and personnel working continue to pass you around like it is not their problem. It is easy to walk into any room in the main hospital with out being questioned or stopped by anyone. They lack military support with referrals and coordinating medical care is the worst. Their low rating is well deserved and myself and everyone i know would rather go out if state to be seen.

A completely dehumanizing experience. The pain I experienced because no one could successfully insert my IV . I was poked several times even though I tried to insist on a phlebotomist. First on my right arm two veins blown, Finally someone with some experience found a vain on the back of my left hand. Then they had to put another IV in on my right hand. Both IVs Were taped down really Tight. Pain was excruciating the bruising was obvious. No matter how much I complained I was told yeah we know it’s uncomfortable but we can’t take it out. I about came unglued and had to insist and practically demand that they take them out. I got bad attitude and had to tell the nurse that I would appreciate it if she lowered her voice when she talk to me. I was almost in tears saying this in humane and it’s cruel. Finally they took the one in my right swollen and severely bruised hand out. The unprofessionalism and lack of compassion was mind blowing. I hope anyone who can will avoid Saint Al’s.

Over the past few years, I've overall had more good experience at St Al's then negative. When asking the right questions I've received clear answers, staff is friendly. professional, and focused. I've seen one time few years ago when in the ER visiting a guest he too was spoken too positively and clearly while in the ER physical trauma but as soon as they relocated him to another room for an overnight stay he was not well communicated with at all for the rest of his stay. Some staff does however needs to improve on their customer service soft skills.

Hello everyone just wanted to share our experience with this so called hospital my brother has 5 stage kidney he was put in peritoneal about a month ago and has been in pain ever since long story short he went in they took ct scans blood work and etc his pain was 14 he said he a tough guy never seen him like this and they were rude when my sis asked why he in such pain we don’t know we can’t find nothing I just don’t understand he been to same hospital 2 days in a row and that whole staff can’t find nothing . I had my own experience I fell off my bike last year went to nearest emergency and they took X-rays and they found nothing I told them something wasn’t right I was hurting I went the next day to st Luke’s and they took X-rays and told me I had 3 broken ribs I don’t understand what they do there but from the stars they have I will never go back to this hospital again even if my life depended on it. And same for my brother and family. Thank you have a Blessed day.

Don’t go here!! They don’t know what their doing. They misdiagnosed my 13 year old son with a head injury. I asked them to do another CT scan on my second visit in 24 hours because something wasn’t right with him. The doctor looked me in the eye and said no. He’s just fine. Long story short, I brought him to Saint Luke’s and they did emergency surgery for a brain hemorrhage. I hope the worthless doctor reads this review and thinks twice about sending a patient home who’s vomiting after a brain injury. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL AT ALL COST! GO TO SAINT LUKES! I will post the name of doctor who refused CT scan when I get my bill.

Let me ask you a serious question... If you went into the hospital and they dropped you off a gurney, breaking your arm, wouldn't you expect them to fix it?? After all your arm wasn't broken when you got there! Now... in my case it wasn't a gurney or my arm, but same principle! I will leave out a lot of the gory details for the sake of brevity. Here's what happened... I was in and out of the hospital last year with complications leading up to my eventual transplant surgery. Last November (2022) I was transported to Saint Alphonsus and was in a coma for several days. When I arrived I was quickly taken to the ICU, where the Doctor managed to knock out my two front teeth while intubating me!! Not great, but what she did next was even worse! After giving me the Rocky Balboa treatment, she proceeded to be nasty, unapologetic and completely dismissive to my distraught wife and family that were at the hospital. Now let me say, the rest of the staff was amazing, caring and shocked at what happened and how that Doctor acted! After getting out of the hospital my wife called to lodge a complaint about the Doctor and find out what we needed to do to get my teeth fixed. Since we were on our way to Utah, in hopes of a viable transplant donor, we left it at that. We truly believed that when/if I recovered from my transplant the hospital would surely do the right thing! Right? I mean... I went into the hospital with two front teeth! Wrong! We eventually received a letter claiming it was "a possible complication"! What!? I now refer you back to the broken arm scenario from the start of the post. Sure... dropping you off a gurney is "a possible complication", but I'm pretty confident they would fix your arm! We didn't want some huge cash payout... nothing more than the cost of getting my teeth replaced!! That's all!! But after a year we continue to be told it's "Not Their Responsibility"!! I think what disappoints me even more than that Doctor’s actions, is the lack of any responsibility on the part of St. Al's!! **Please Note** In the year and a half before that incident I had been in for treatments twice a week and several other hospital stays. The Medical Imaging team, the nurses on the second floor and the registration team are incredible and became like second family through my journey!

I have had so many different bad experiences at this hospital and location of this hospital. The emergency staff are all very unprofessional and disrespectful and also rude! This morning 04.03.23 at approximately 8 am I took my daughter in for a visit! I overheard all staff laughing at a woman who had a language barrier, I also heard them call her stupid as she left the back area of the ER. I am concerned about this hospital and it’s employees! Please someone get this hospital employees professional training! I believe this place should have a thorough inspection. I also experienced sitting in a nasty area which still had blood and other items left behind and not cleaned. Please help this hospital!

A family member was just in this hospital for a viral infection in his lungs. (The first week of April 2023) He is a 70 year old veteran whom is fairly active. He rides a motorcycle all summer, even last summer. The staff waited until family went home, then asked him " Do you want to try to fight this or would you rather GO COMPFORTABLY?" Really??!! I was not aware assisted suicide was acceptable here in Idaho. Not only did they do this but all the staff spoke "death over him" by treating him like there was not any hope of him pulling through. Thanks to his loving family he is now home and doing much better. Do NOT trust this hospital with your loved ones!!! One other complaint is that our loved one at his worst moments, he was not checked on frequently and he was left to clean up his own bodily fluids when he got sick. Sadly he had to unclog his own sink to clean his own mess while on breathing assistance!!

I had my third heart related surgery at Saint Alphonsus on June 12th, and was there through June 18th. I can't express in words of how the entire staff took care of me and treated me like gold. From my surgery prep, and all the days of recovery afterwards, I had hospital staff around the clock checking on me. All of them were very friendly and polite, and treated me with kindness and respect. The personnel in ICU were awesome, and it was a pleasure to speak with them and thank them for their dedication to their jobs. Several of them were pulling double shifts because of being short handed, but other than being a little tired, they didn't complain. Their supervisors should be very proud of them all for their professionalism and their representation of Saint Alphonsus Hospital. I applaud the entire staff in CCU and ICU and thank you for your kindness and assistance in my recovery. Respectfully, Jim Warren

I had a hiatal hernia surgery and the entire experience was outstanding! Surgeon Doctor Reising and PA Troy were exceptional. Check in staff were courteous and helpful, Erin in prep was friendly and efficient, I was asleep before the team entered the operating room, so didn't see any of them. At recovery came out with severe pain and breathing difficulty because my lung had collapsed to move my stomach back where it belonged and a veritable beehive swirled around me to bring relief and a tube was inserted to relieve the problem, then off to a room for observation where David and Susan, then Adrienne, then Eric and Liya provided friendly and courteous care for my comfort. I couldn't even choose which one did more - every stage was exceptional and I experienced grace and excellent handling through the entire process. I am home where I slept well, breathing well (using a mechanism to keep things moving forward and it is helpful and I'm breathing well) and am having merely mild body pain throughout my torso which is exceptional after all the pulling, mending and cutting done inside me, and haven't taken any of the pain medication I was given and walking and moving around just fine. My appreciation cannot be overstated and I feel blessed for the experience, which I do not intend to repeat. My wife Susan was with me the entire time and is equally grateful and thankful for the care and courteous i was given.

This is my hospital of choice for so many reasons. I've had several procedures done and given birth (all natural) here. Exceptional staff! Billing was slow in some cases, but always thorough. I also love the different practices that associate with St. Alphonsus. I've only encountered excellence. Five stars!

I’ve had surgeries in multiple hospitals unfortunately, so I’ve been able to see differences in quality of care. St Al’s is the worst! Waited 4 hours for surgery after I arrive at time they stated. After surgery woke up in large room with over 15 patients, no walls no curtains, inexperienced staff had spine surgery they rushed me to get dressed with no help, wheeled me downstairs for pick up when my ride wasn’t even there yet, nurse took chair away from me and I was left standing by my self right after spinal surgery!? Nurse was very rude and uncaring, after two lamenectomy surgeries I had no improvement, wasted my time, moneys and suffered with no results. I will never go back! The best hospital in Boise is TREASURE VALLEY HOSPITAL!, after this last surgery there I’m finally pain free !

The nurses are always great and we are always treated with respect by THEM. However, Dr. Hammerstedt, made both my husband and myself feel like a burden. She brought up how maybe we need to save up money to go see a specialist. Basically we felt like our financial situation was used against us. We stated we don't have insurance right now and she brought up how the ER is probably another bill adding up. We were not checked on hardly after one of our nurses went home which honestly if we were routinely checked on and talked to like human beings it wouldnt have been as aggravating . My husband has chronic illnesses and keeps getting gaslit and brushed off.

Only thing good about this place are the few doctors I’ve had which are genuinely great human beings. But, their system got hacked and patient accounts/ information got released. Patients would get letters in the mail regarding a “security breach”. I was one of the extremely unlucky ones. My identity got stolen (drivers license/ social/ iCloud account/ college account/ etc). My bank accounts got drained completely and this company is doing NOTHING to help me. No reimbursement. No kindness or empathy. Patient relations is zero help. I’ve submitted many concerns regarding this and their response “we feel we have done everything we can to help”. I lost all hope in this company and the so called patient rights that each one of us get. I highly recommend to avoid this healthcare system completely. It’s a business 1st before it’s a hospital. They are also illegally asking patients BEFORE surgery, at check in, to pay for their surgery expenses in full. No payment plans or anything. It is illegal to have a patient pay for services not rendered. They get away with far too much.

Wanted to take the time and share how much I appreciated the staff at St Al’s Boise while they were caring for my Dad. I am finding that our elderly are so undervalued in general but not here! Thank you to Dr Peterson for seeing my Dad everyday and listening to him. Dr Donaldson and his wonderful PA you both are amazing and deserve all the praises. To our nurses all I can say is WOW! Sam, Claudia, Abigail, Braxton, Alma, Becky (telemetry) and Samantha (3rd floor). You are all amazing and are very valued! Special shout out to the best CNA’s as well! Layla and Rachel you two give the sweetest care ever. Thank you again to everyone that took the time to care for my Dad LeRoy.

10 put of 10 do not recommend this hospital. My husband was in an accident and had to be transfered from St lukes to Saint Alphonsus since St lukes is not adult trauma certified . Ok, no biggie. Long story short unless your a trauma adult and have literally no choice don't go to st als. If you are a trauma adult bring an adult. We had nurses tell us they purposely wait 30 minutes after you push the call button so they can come see what you need because they want you to hate being in the hospital so you will go home sooner. Despite them also refusing to giving you medicine at schedule times or just anything at all. We had that happen a lot before and after surgery . We brought the nurses food and gifts and they treated my husband better but only when I was there. I had to leave and they would leave him alone and ignore his call button the entire time I was home to shower and change .

My Uncle just spent 12 days in the Cardiac ICU at this hospital. He went in after having an aortic aneurysm, and they took really good care of him. They did all they could but unfortunately he passed away. On behalf of my whole family we want to thank his care team. His Nurses were amazing, Trevor I just adore. Thank you all for comforting us and taking the time to talk to us. Thank you for talking to him and being so gentle. Thank you to his doctors and the people that did his dialysis. What you did for him and our family means the world to us. Thank you to the Chaplain who came after to comfort us and give us direction. We really appreciate you all. I hope to never go through this again, but if it ever comes to it I'll definitely come to this hospital.

We're currently on a few day stay in the Maternity Center, with my 7 month old boy who is sick with hMPV. All of the nurses and doctors have been extremely kind and accommodating. The doctors have been wonderful at talking us through everything & explaining any questions we have in great detail. Staying in a hospital with your kid who doesn't feel well is miserable, but the staff truly makes all the difference!

Every single time I've come here (3 times a week for the past 6 months) every single person I encounter is professional, kind, knowledgeable, and seems to truly care about their patients. I've had so many blood draws, every time I walk in (S2 entrance) the people at the counter are as friendly as can be, the lab staff go above and beyond, and despite my intense fear of needles the phlebotomists always have such a gentle touch and hold a great conversation that keeps my mind off of the needle in my arm. I've been here while it's busy and not, even during a huge rush of patients the staff always take the time to answer questions and make sure everything is good before moving onto the next patients. Maternal fetal medicine (building W4) Has wonderful folks at the front desk, wonderful nurses, and amazing doctors. There's only one gentleman who works there as far as my visits have gone and he is Absolutely amazing! The only staff member I've not had such a great visit with was Dr palmquist who will fat shame pregnant patients and make them cry among many other things (not just my experience with her either, but in lots of her reviews online too, but she's just one bad apple in the barrel so don't fear the whole place over one doctor) The building W3 has all amazing staff that I've seen so far too. Dr Francis Harris is an angel, she's very knowledgeable, kind, and will tell it like it is! I've had a few visits with other doctors on staff too and they have all been so wonderful. My only complaints about this part of the hospital is a couple of the people who check in folks for appointments can be abit aloof at times, but 8/10 times they are ontop of everything and do a great job. I understand that the mask mandates and visitor restrictions from covid can be annoying at best, but it's not the hospital creating these rules, they just have to follow them. Overall, nobody comes to a hospital for a good time. I've encountered so many doctors, nurses, and other staff members that have made every visit here a good one for me. I hope that the reviews of this hospital go up because I firmly believe it deserves more that 2 stars overall.

No wonder why the hospital carries 2.6 stars. I no longer live in the area but I wanted to share a personal experience with the emergency department of the hospital and hopefully people who look like me would know what to do in similar situations. It was mid-November of 2021 a couple weeks after my son was born. We went back for a follow up appointment and his doctor suggested that we check in him to the emergency department because he didn’t GAIN enough weight for his age. After examination, they told us that he needs a surgery for “Meningitis”. Well, we trusted them with our new born son and said do what you can to help him. Remember, we are “BLACK” parents. We were asked to stay outside during the surgery and we were by the door heard our son cry for a while. The doctor came out and told us he was UNSUCCESSFUL the first time, the second time and finally he said that we need to stay at the hospital until he finds help the next day. And the time was during Covid-19. Most cases at the emergency was Covid-related. At that, we decided to go home and return the next day. That was when the situation gotten worse. The doctor who performed a failed surgery told us that, if we had to go home the baby may die. I remember what I told, “God gave us the baby if He decides to take him nobody will stop Him.” That was a warning for us. The next day, we went to St. Luke’s instead. To learn that after all, our son didn’t need a surgery for anything. He was healthy. Just didn’t gain weight as fast as the expectation. However, he was sick from contamination during the unsuccessful surgery and we were admitted to the hospital at the St. Luke’s for a week or so. Now, I will try to figure it all out what the plan was but if you’re a black or brown family, be careful with your kids used by hospital perhaps for educational purposes.

The ER staff went above and beyond...moving quickly to treat me for a TIA! The RRT was excellent. Jaime, ED RN, was competent, knowledgeable and really cared about her patients. Even as a busy Saturday night began she did not put me on the back burner! Thank you Jaimie. Dr. Woodbridge, ED doc and Dr. Franklyn, hospitality, both explained my options and what would happen next. No pressure, no making me feel bed with either choice. Thank you! I was a patient on 3South. Mikail and Lauren were amazing. Came to check on me throughout the night. They were not intrusive, rather caring. Eric from RT was gentle,.caring and non pushy with my CPAP that I needed. If I could teach all medical professionals to be half as goodas these employees..I believe our hospitals would be better places. Thank you St. Al's and your amazing staff

First off, I would rate them a 5 but I believe we all have room for improvement. With that said, I was in their care for 4 days after major abdominal surgery. They did an awesome job, trying hard to let me sleep at night even when they were required to check my vitals ever two hours. Shift changes were smooth and they communicated issues. They were very short handed one night, and because of their communication to me of the situation I was aware as to a bit longer call response time and adjusted accordingly.. I very much appreciated all their care.

On January 16th 2022 I was admitted to Saint Alphonsus hospital. I was diagnosed with liver failure with little to no chance of recovery. The medical staff, including the absolutely wonderful RNs in ICU did everything they could to make my end of life experience as comfortable as humanly possible. Miraculously I recovered enough to return to San Diego to be with my family. My current medical team initially have me a month at best to live. Now 14 months later my hepatic autoimmune disease is under control. I have had no paracentesis procedures for over a year. I'm at a healthy weight my labs are where they should be etc..Bottom line, my physicians here in San Diego all give credit to the ICU medical team at Saint Alphonsus hospital without their initial care I wouldn't be alive today

Had a ton of issues with aetrial flutter and fib. Went through two oblations and a mini maze surgery and the heart group at St Al's were awesome. Last surgery was in December and no issues since then. Huge thank you to Dr Mark Parent and Kim Telfer, Dr Margot Vloka and Anna Hoskins and Dr Ben Taylor who did the last mini maze surgery that sealed the deal. This team was awesome and after spending 7 days in the hospital in Phoenix I can tell you this group is way way better than the care I previously had. I wish there were 10 stars I could give them!!!!
