What a beautiful walk! On a sunny day you can see right across the ocean and the mansions are incredible. There are lots of boards along the way to tell you what you’re looking at but even if you aren’t interested in the history it’s a beautiful place. There is free parking at The Breakers even if you don’t go in the house. There are no eateries along the walk though so be sure to take drinks and snacks with you. There are some toilets along the way but not many.

Great place to come for a nice walk. The sights are beautiful, the breeze from the bay is nice, even on a humid day. If you're not one for a lot of people, go early! It starts getting busy on the walkways around 10am We got there about 8:30am on a Sunday, and there were minimal people until around 9:30 / 10am. The mansions are incredible to see. You can stop at the cafe at the beginning or end of the cliff walk, depending on where you start. You'll need to pay for parking during the peak season, which is May through October. The walk is roughly 3.5 miles one way and about 2/3 of the walk is in easy walking condition, about 1/3 is a little rougher conditions. Good shoes should be worn. The entire walk to the end and back will take around 2 and a half hours or so.

I walked from breakers to the north end of cliff walk. Its about 1.2 miles one way. Its beautiful. The view of Atlantic ocean is amazing. There are several points where you could get down and also several points to take photos. Make sure to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes.

The view is absolutely beautiful in sunny days! Waves, coastlines, seagulls, …, the nature comes so vividly alive here. Be sure to wear a pair of comfortable shoes since there are some pretty rough spots (on the rocks). Also, if coming at a windy day, it’s better to bring a jacket since the wind at some spot could be really strong even in sunny days. All in all, absolutely enjoyable!

Gorgeous. I forgot how beautiful it was. Next time I travel home I need to bring my kids here. It's 7 miles round trip (out and back). We parked at the beach. Small detour, but not a big deal.

This was one of the most amazing trail I have ever gone to. Literally, every 1 minute walk, we encounter a new magnificent view of the ocean, rocks on the way, places, etc. there was a beach less than 5 minutes walk from the trail. We took the walk at 7:00 pm and we reached the end at about 9:00 pm. Yes, it will take more time if you stay longer to take photos or watch the ocean. After about half an hour walk, we reached a restroom. There was water tap as well. We saw people fishing on the way down to the trail. If you want to be surprised for each scene, I highly recommend this place. You can find the proof from my photos.

Go at the golden hour. When the skies are blue with some scattering of clouds the shore is just amazing. I didn't get to do the whole walk... Think I got as far as maybe 2 miles. It wasn't too busy when I went but I can imagine how packed it can be during warmer days. The hike itself is purely paved trails... Not really a dirt road or sandy beaches. Still worth a visit when in Newport, RI

Beautiful views have your camera ready. If you are looking for something peaceful this is it. If you have young kids that like to explore on their on keep them near you for their safety. Fences and rails are in place for safety.

Our visit to the Cliff Walk during our short trip to Newport, Rhode Island, was a true gem. Though relatively short, spanning about 2 miles round trip, it gifted us with spectacular ocean views and the invigorating scent of the sea that truly refreshed the soul. During our walk, we stumbled upon Salve Regina University, established in 1934 by the Sisters of Mercy, adding a touch of historical charm to our journey. While parts of the trail were rocky and provided a bit of a challenge to some of the friends, the rest was pleasantly paved, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors. Overall, the Cliff Walk proved to be one of the highlights of our visit to the Newport Beach area, offering a wonderful blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. It was indeed an enjoyable stroll.

I did the cliff walk on my first day in Newport. The entrance starts on Memorial Boulevard and ends on Bellevue. The whole walk one way can take up to 2-1/2 to 3 hours, depending on your pace and how well you can walk on the more rocky areas. When you start the hike, the area is mostly paved, which makes it an easy stroll, but then the area gets a bit rocky, and if you are a novice when it comes to these kind of walks, then it gets a bit scary. You get beautiful views of the water and the surrounding areas, including major points of interest. If going on a hotter day, then I recommend bringing a bottle of water, but I didn't notice any restrooms. Also, wear comfortable sneakers. Do not wear anything with a heal as you can end up stuck or trip easily. I really enjoyed doing this hike, and I recommend anyone who loves doing outdoorsy things like this to definitely give it a try.

First time on the cliff walk and it was really great experience. Even though it was really nice day out there wasn’t too many people because I wouldn’t kind of late, definitely cold in the shadows for me. Will definitely come back here as they’ve made a detour towards the middle and we didn’t get to see it all. Judging by the pictures of those posted the best parts are further along!

The Cliff Walk has the unique combination of ocean views with views of various Mansions along the way, including the Breakers, and a very cool outcrop for a beautiful gazebo. Deciding where to start/park wasn’t particularly obvious, so we had to park a couple times until we found our way on foot to the apparent “entrance”. A good portion of it was paved and fairly easy to navigate, until you get to the “end” where it dumps you into the rocks. Pretty fun…. Probably goes without saying…. But…. Lots of beautiful views!

Beautiful walk, it is a very long walk if you do the entire thing but definitely worth it. Loved seeing the ocean and cliffs.

Beautiful walk if you are in Newport Rhode Island. Some nice bathrooms on the walk if you need a break. Takes a couple of hours.

Incredible experience walking along the entire path. The QR codes along the way provide a neat little history about the properties and grounds. The entire area is pretty well manicured and clean. Terrain varies from paved, to gravel, to rocky at times. Definitely wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes. Views are amazing the whole walk. Plan on at least an hour to complete the trail one way.

Super cool trail and experience. We visited the Cliff walk on a chilly, breezy day. It was nice because the walk was very quiet due to the weather conditions. We started at the southwest end of the trail, which is more difficult as some of the pathways are boulders near the water. Overall great trail where you can see spectacular views of the water and the mansions along the way are very historic. Highly recommend! One of the coolest walks we’ve been on.

The view along the Cliff Walk is spectacular! My husband and I, 68-69years old, had no difficulty with the southern portion from The Breakers to Bailey's Beach. There were a few areas of walking on top of large boulders and across mid sized rocks, but they are doable if you have good balance. This lower portion takes more energy but has less foot traffic and is peaceful and quiet. We did the upper portion from 40 steps to Easton's Beach also, a couple days later. It has great views, too, and the walkway is paved the entire way.

What a unique and beautiful place to walk. It's wonderful that the city has maintained and kept this open for centuries now. I really enjoyed spending some time walking on it even as the terrain switches to the more difficult area. Worth the time to explore to catch some views of the ocean and the mansions in the area.

It’s an okay walk. It’s about 2 miles from end to end but not all of it is paved and those parts require a bit of agility to get through. So not for people who shuffle their feet or can’t jump. But most of it from the north entrance is an easy walk. There isn’t any cover so dress for the weather because there aren’t many places to exit the trail. Hard to get parking in Newport during the busy season. So can’t recommend a place to park. I guess it’s an okay place for a date because there isn’t much to trip on while your walking and talking or any amazing scenery to distract from a good conversation. We actually caught the tail end of a proposal at one of the view points. Maybe that’s where they had their first date and that could be you!

This is a beautiful, one of a kind trail. There are easy, moderate and hard parts. See the photo of the trail map to determine which parts are easy vs hard. As of right now, April 2023, pert of the trail is closed in front of Salve Regina University. There is a detour around that doesn’t take long. You can start at one end of the trail or in the middle, but you have to go back and forth unless you have someone pick you up (it’s not a loop). There are parts, the east part, where a stroller would be ok but not beyond the east section as it’s rocks and not a paved trail. Parking is free off season at the trail street entrances and at the first beach lot (one end of the trail). In the warmer months you have to pay to park and it’s harder to find spots.

The cliff walk is a great place to get exercise and enjoy some beautiful views of the mansions and rocky terrain along the shoreline. The views of some mansions are obstructed with fences and vegetation. Beware of the poison ivy it is very abundant in Rhode Island especially along this walking trail. Otherwise the trail is well kept. The trail does have some areas where you must walk across rocks to proceed further along the trail and there is only one restroom along the path and it’s usually very busy and a long wait during peak times and holidays. Currently there is also a section that is under repair so a small detour around it is necessary. Enjoy the walk!

This is a unique kind of trail, wherein you have the magnificent ocean on side and beautiful mansions on the other. Started this trail from the Memorial Blvd. We started off at 10 AM and were back by 12PM.. Although most part of the trail is paved and is stroller friendly, it's better to wear your baby using a carrier rather than to take a stroller. The trail is narrow in certain regions and could create a nuisance to others. Plenty of free parking by Cliff Ave right across the trail.

Beautiful shoreline walk. Parts are more like boulder hiking. We wore athletic shoes but honestly hiking boots with ankle support would have been best on the rocks. Beautiful views, about 7miles roundtrip! We parked at the Narragansett Ave Waterfront Public Access Point $5 for 4hrs.

Good walk with great nature views. There was some construction going on so had to do a detour but allowed us to see more of St. Regina University. The mansions it goes by are not very visible in summer as they mostly have large hedges in front of their fences so not the best way to see the houses along the coast if that’s what you’re going for in the summertime. Pictured is university building which you can see from the trail this and a few others. Not a lot of shaded areas so is a bit hot. Great views though of the water and cliffs - gives a vibe of a smaller coast of wales or Ireland.
