Beautiful forest providing a breathtaking drive during fall. Definitely stop by the lakes to take in some idyllic scenes. We got lucky and caught a rainbow over the forest, which is one of the most breathtaking experiences of my life.

SPECIFICALLY the Scarce O Fat and High King Trails. Has a great overlook peak WITH A BENCH😜Usually several hikers and runners on the trail, depending on the day. But still has a good "self reflecting feel" to it. Some challenging places that will "test your mettle" and see what you're made of. I typically do NOT start with the High King entrance because it is too rugged and steep to start out with! I need something more gradual😊🍂🍁Most of the beautiful leaves were blown away with the wind yesterday. Some of these pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago! While the leaves were still attached to the trees! It was def MUCH harder to navigate the trail today. Parking is good with at least 3 different spots close to the trails. I was asked if i feel safe on this trail. Absolutely!❤️ Happy hiking y'all🎵🎶👩‍🦯👣

A good place to hike if you’re in the area. We did the trail right by the road that leads to the park office. The trail wasn’t too challenging and was tread heavily, making it easy to see where we were going without getting lost. It was a quiet, pleasant walk overall. Afterward, we took a walk down by the lake. The water was as still as a mirror’s surface and peaceful. We then drove down to the nearby dam and checked out that area. There were other trails nearby, but we didn’t end up hiking them. This seems to be a more camping-focused park, so we didn’t find as much to do here as we did at Brown County State Park. Admission was free, however, so the price was right.

First time visit, loved the primitive camping. I stayed on site 23, nice big site and plenty of trees. No one close. Trails were great, hiked the Lake trail and the Scare O Fat loop, 10 miles in all. Definitely will be returning.

This park exceeded my expectations the first time and continues to do so. There are many trails, activities and camping. I prefer hiking the north end where you can see a lot of trees being worked on by beavers as well as beautiful stands of pine with pine needles covering the trail. Other hiking portions on the west side offer great views of the lake. The east side is a little more tricky with nice boardwalks but the road can be busy. Portions of the south and Scarce ‘O Fat trail can be hard to follow. If you drive your vehicle to park near the spillway, please be mindful of the creek crossing and/or high water. I’ve had to pull people out once when they got stuck. I hate to say this, but watch for snakes in the boggy areas. It’s their home but I did run into an aggressive one once out of the 5 times I’ve been (see last pic).

Nice trails. Gets a bit muddy in the spring. There is boating, places for picnics, and some trails. Bird area as well. A few times I have spotted an eagle.

The lake trail is beautiful. It is a moderate trail with many places to view the lake. Be prepared for elevation changes, rocks, tree roots, and some muddy places if it has rained recently. There are several places where you cross creek beds. They were dry when we went.

This place is gorgeous. The only issue I have is that there is you have to pay to swim at the pool. I would of loved to be able to sit at the base of the lake and let my dogs get wet with me.

Great place, no entrance fee as it's a state Forrest. Lots of good campsites with tables and fire pits that are clean. Bathrooms available. Really good for car camping. Some decent trails and fun exploring. Much quieter than the state park campgrounds.

Beautiful area. I'm glad this space is here and not developed. The forest is very diverse and the network of trails makes it easy to access the rich natural resources here. Campgrounds seem well kept and the roads are really well maintained

This is a fall favorite location for some pretty views of the lake and walking through wooded areas. I’ve also run of a few of the October Dino series trail races here and though tough to run, they’ve been so beautiful! The park is dog friendly and trails can be a bit narrow through the trees at places.

Located near other parks in the area like Brown County and McCormick Creek, this park stands out with its unique natural surroundings. The variety of flowers here is particularly impressive, with a range of colorful and special blooms that make this park truly unique. I've included some photos of the wildflowers for reference. The shortest trail around the lake is about 4 miles, but while walking around it, you may not have many views of the lake. However, longer trails are available for horseback riding and biking enthusiasts.

We hiked the yellowwood lake trail. The hiked turned out to be closer to 5 miles. Nice scenery, and the women we talked to at the office was delightful. Macy, the office pup was very friendly. We now know to bring an old pie tin so we can obtain a free same day permit and pan for some gold!

This is by far my favorite place! If you get a chance please rent a kayak, paddle boat or row boat and row out into the middle of the lake. Be sure to row out as early as possible so you can feel how majestic it is when the dew is rising off the water.
