So many things to love about Plus One! Convenience - I can take class while my son takes class. High standards - leadership and instructors take the responsibility of training people very seriously. You really need to earn your belts and stripes by learning the form you are studying. We especially love that the children they are taught they have to exhibit personal excellence at home as well as at school in order to advance in their martial art. Most importantly, though, the leadership and instructors develop and promote community. Everyone is kind and respectful. When our son sprained his ankle, he attended class to sit on the bench and watch to prepare for his test, and Sensei Travis moved the whole class next to the bench so our son could be included and train from there.

I am having a fantastic time learning BJJ at Plus One. I didn't have any martial arts background, but everyone is so welcoming and helpful. Every question I've had has been quickly and thoroughly answered, by the instructors and by the experienced practitioners, who are eager to see me succeed. Classes are challenging and rewarding, and I'm constantly learning (and getting a great workout, AND having a ton of fun). The environment is very friendly and completely respectful, so even as a female newbie I don't feel intimidated or uncomfortable. The women-only class is also great opportunity, not only for the technique taught and smaller class size, but also for those who may be unsure about training with men. I look forward to every class, and I'm very glad to have joined this community!

Many martial arts styles. Talented instructors. Large, well kept facility. Always open (even in bad winter weather). My son and I have switched from a month-to-month contract to a long term contract based on the good experience we have had so far

10/10 Plus One is hands down, the best gym in the area. Ive been training here for just under a year but I’ve trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at other places and they don’t come close to the quality program, facility, or community that Plus One has. Darin, the owner cares deeply about his gym and his people; This is reflected in what he and his team deliver! I believe there are a couple things that make Plus One Stand Out. 1. PRICE - The gym is totally affordable and there is a single membership fee. With that fee you get access to the wide variety of martial arts classes, all which have top notch instructors. Additionally, you get access to the gym / weight room, open mats, and showers! Side Note: Everything is always clean! 2. COMMUNITY - As a woman, training martial arts and be intimidating at best and dangerous at worst. The instructors reinforce respect and safety no matter who you are working with. Additionally, there is a friendly feel on the mats yet there is plenty of opportunity for competition and challenges. Overall, I am SO happy to be a member at Plus One and highly recommend the gym for anyone interested!

Y'all... This gym made me fall in love with martial arts. I wanted a fun way to workout so I tried their Muay Thai Kickboxing class, but I ended up doing all their other classes as well and learned so much. After three months of training I left with the confidence of knowing how to handle myself, as a woman, in a variety of situations. I became mentally and physically strong. The owner, the employees, and just everybody there is just so kind and welcoming and warm and it felt like I became a part of a family. If you don't choose this gym you're missing out lol. Has a great learning atmosphere with driven and kind people. There’s so many different martial arts you can do there too. I just started a month ago and have learned so much due to the instructors and people who are a higher level than me that want to help.

Plus One Defense is a world class martial gym. I've had the pleasure to pick up Jiu-Jitsu this summer and they made me fall in love with it. Im moving this fall and I am sad I have to leave this gym.These are the reasons I'm sad to leave, first off Darin and his team are awesome they have created an environment that makes you want to keep coming back, the facility is amazing with three different matt areas, a boxing ring, a cage and a whole weight lifting area, the amount of different martial arts styles they teach is insane as well as how many different classes they offer. If you are looking for a place to train, get in shape, pickup a new activity Plus One Defense is the place to go.

I train in Florida and was vacationing in CT. The people at this gym welcomed me with open arms and gave me a spot to train when I was out of town. The level of instruction here is fantastic and such a great family atmosphere I’ll definitely be stopping back in when I come back to CT for vacation… Thank you again!

Been going to this gym for about 5-6 years now. There’s been a few changes with the coaches but it’s still a great place to learn, train and grow. Learning even more now in Muay Thai, especially with Alberto and in BJJ with Nelson. 10/10.

Darin runs an amazing gym and he only employs trainers of the highest caliber. I've trained beginner-level Muay Thai here with three different instructors due to my shifting work schedule. Each instructor was friendly, accommodating, highly talented, and made you feel like a part of the family. I highly recommend subscribing to Plus One's newsletter if you are interested in getting your CT firearms permits. Darin's NRA course on firearms safety is comprehensive, great value, and fun. Seats at these classes are limited, but their newsletter will give ample warning before they start reserving spots.

Had my first class here today and will definitely be coming back for more classes. Great clean facility and great instructors, felt welcome as a beginner. Also they have a great weight room with everything you need for a good lift. Nice quality.

Awesome BJJ facility! I dropped in for a class with a friend / current member when visiting the area from out of state. Excellent and respectful training partners and instructors (something I'm quite critical of as a female grappler), clean and spacious facilities, and positive / welcoming overall environment! Can't wait to go back :)

What an excellent gym! My coworker and I were visiting the area for a work trip and we asked the owner to drop in for the morning class and everyone was incredible. The people were very friendly, and welcoming. The professor leading the class gave great instruction and even gave some additional details later on. As a woman who travels a lot for work, it is always refreshing to find a female friendly gym that is so welcoming and knowledgeable.

Plus One is a fantastic dojo with awesome, caring instructors. I trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu there for a couple years (before moving out of the area). Darin, Marlene, and the other instructors create a safe environment, and make their classes challenging, fun, and engaging. The dojo is cleaned thoroughly and often. Hygiene is emphasized regularly. Becoming a member gives you unlimited access to a very full schedule of classes, across many different styles of martial arts. There is a women’s-only BJJ class, in addition to the regular BJJ classes. As a woman, I felt very safe and respected there, even though I was sometimes the only female in class. The youth classes have amazing instructors too. Thanks Plus One! I will miss you all!

This is one of the best martial arts schools I have been too. They offer a lot of different styles, which you can take any or all of them. Most schools are limited in either style offered or limit how many classes a student can take. Not at Plus One. You can take as many classes/styles as you want. The staff and instructors are outstanding, as are the students. Its a very welcoming environment. I highly recommend it.
