Historical
site.
It
is
named
Mennonite
Beach
because
this
is
the
spot
where
the
Mennonites
of
Spanish
Lookout
crossed
Belize
river
in
1958.
During
the
dry
season
the
river
was
very
low,
and
they
were
able
to
walk
through
the
river
just
holding
their
dry
clothes
over
their
head.
Around
10
families
spent
their
first
night
in
2
small
houses.
For
most
of
them
it
was
their
first
taste
of
the
tropical
jungle.
Lots
of
hard
works
was
needed
to
carve
out
a
home
for
their
families
in
this
new
country.
(At
the
time
still
British
Honduras).
Mennonite
Beach
is
a
open
for
FREE
to
the
public
from
Monday
to
Friday.
On
weekends
and
Public
Holidays
there
is
a
small
entry
fee.
NO
ALCOHOL
is
allowed
on
this
property.
