This food was excellent. My wife is gluten intolerant and we were super excited to hear that only 2 items on the menu (teque tots, and number 20) not gluten free. The flavors are amazing we had the arepas and empenadas. I love the shredded beef. The beans and rice were great add. We told them we would be back and try the plantains next time. Note, on Saturdays, they shut down around 3pm to prep for post 5pm dinner crowd. We arrived for late lunch. The Barley pod area has quite a bit of seating and many outdoor tables with awning or umbrella covering. Overall about 10 food carts here with small indoor beer hall. Public restroom here as well.

Love this place! The food is delicious, and fairly priced, with nice, filling portions. My picky eaters love the arepas and tostones!

It was really good food , had a few of the dishes, and tasted very good , The menu is very interactive and detailed with pictures that show details in the food that are accurate with the real plate , interactio when ordering is great you can add sauces and extras in the plate all in the screen and see prices , service was great ,location has parking and other options to eat and plenty to sit down .. a 5 straight.

La Areapa is a great Venezuelan place that I recommend especially for the Flautas, the best items by far on their menu in my opinion. The prices are a bit steep in my opinion, I feel things could be around a $1 cheaper but the food taste great and I recommend for dinner or lunch.

I visited this pod with my wife, and we each shared items from different carts. Being the smart one in the family, my wife chose La Arepa, and went with their Shredded Chicken Arepa as her choice. The wait for her food turned out to be much shorter than the expected few minutes, as a fresh Arepa happened to be immediately available. This meant that I ended up trying to grab more than my share as the other order from a different cart took a bit longer to materialize. This allowed me to appreciate the flavor, and, for me, the wonderful combination of textures in La Arepa's cooking. Between the arepa itself, the chicken, and the cheese (Cotija?) that came on top, every bite told a lovely and varied story. I'm very much looking forward to exploring more of their menu.

Empanadas were cooked perfectly and huge! The chicken one was alright but the fish one was great. The Pabellón Arepa was lovely. The shredded beef was juicy and flavorful and each flavor complemented one another well. It was stuffed too! I only wish that it had come with a little salsa on it or on the side. I felt like that's what it was missing. The person running the cart was super sweet and friendly.

Great food, personable staff and fun atmosphere. Only downside is that it was a little bit slow...but the quality of the food indicates that it was handmade right there on the spot. So patience really pays off with a delicious meal. Vegetarian friendly.

So incredibly delicious!! I love coming here! The number 4 is my favorite but today I tried the 1 with cheese and avocado and it was amazing. Can not recommend enough.

Had my first ever Arepa at this gem of a spot in Portland and it was AMAZING. For first timers, I suggest trying their classic shredded beef arepa. We got the guasacaca sauce and cotija cheese. I must say, prepare to have cotija cheese beard crumbs on your face. haha Jose was super friendly and taught us some Venezuelan lingo- will definitely be back and will recommend to our friends!

This was my first time trying a Venezuelan arepa. It was really good! It reminded me of tamales.

Having a moment. This place is amazing. The patacon (with beef) blew my mind. The tostones are also mind blowing. Try the sauces! And almost everything is gluten-free! We are coming back ASAP.

I have had arepas at several places in Portland, and La Arepas' are my favorite. They have the best filling-to-breading ratio, in my opinion, and the breading itself is light, which really allows all of the ingredients to shine. For those who are unfamiliar, arepas are a traditional Venezuelan street food, that consist of a flat, round, bread-like patty that is made of grilled or deep-fried (and naturally gluten-free) cornmeal, which is then filled with meat, cheese or vegetables. So this is a great spot for gluten-free diets, and also has vegetarian or vegan options. Pictured, is the Shredded Chicken Arepa, with added avocado. It features mildly spicy, slow-cooked, shredded chicken, that is seasoned with onion, garlic, sweet pepper, and paprika. It was served with a mild white sauce, which I believe was a cilantro garlic nata (I should have asked). I have also had their Shredded Beef arepa, which I think is still my favorite (it is a bit spicier). There is a picture of it, from a couple of years ago, on my Instagram, I believe taken at the Foster location. La Arepa currently has three locations (including a new commercial kitchen, for deliveries!), but I did see something online about one or more of the locations moving to a different place in Portland, in early November, so keep an eye out for that. If you like my photograph, feel free to follow my foodie Instagram: jonathan.grubb, for more (casual, and almost exclusively small / local) greater-Portland-area foodventures!

An interesting food experience. Venezuelan. I've had a wonderfully flavorful chicken sandwich with plantains for the bun
