Big Red Tent is Perfect for a weekend Gateway near Mumbai. Location: This place is located at about 1.5 hrs drive from Mumbai. Its just 4 Km away from Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Panvel. Its preferred if you go by your car, but incase if you don’t want to then you can also commute by Train. All you have to do is to travel to Panvel by a local train (Harbour Line). Once you step out from the station you will find lot of auto rickshaws who will drop you at location. You have ask for Kalhe Gaon and set β€œThe Big Red Tent, Karnala” on GPS or ask β€œZaki farms” for guidance once you reach Kalhe Gaon. They charge approx. Rs. 250. On your way to the site you can take the number of the driver and convince him to pick you next day. Cost: Approx. Rs. 4500/- for two Persons. About the Place: Big Red teant, Karnala is a lush greener and manicured location flanked by palm trees. The lush green lawn surrounded by Palm trees is just perfect for kids. Kids along with family can have a good time playing cricket, football, etc. They do have activities like trekking, star gazing, bonfire, boating, kayaking lined up for the campers. This camping site turns out to be a silent camping site in the night so that you can spend good time with your family and friends. According to season their food menu changes, for Summer they have come up with fresh fruit season where in they serve fresh fruits, mocktails and fruit infused water to restore energy levels. Our Experience: We reached around 4.30pm. We were greeted by Mr. Zaid who hosts the camping experience at Big red tent, Karnala. We were quickly offered mocktails and guided us towards our tent. We were soon engrossed sitting there on the greenlawn, relaxing & enjoying the beauty of the place. Refreshments like tea, coffee, biscuits, fresh fruits ( muskmelon, watermelon, oranges & grapes) , fresh fruit infused water was served. We took a walk around the camping area for quite sometime and figured out that they are coming up with bamboo machan, tree house machans which were under construction. We just can't wait to visit that place again to experience the luxurious camping experience with the new houses. Later along with fellow camping people we played football, frisbees, jenga etc.It was fun to play along with small kids. We literally forgot about all the stress we had. We also went for night trek post which we had dinner. It was amazing experience to do a night trek. It was for around 20-30mins. Stars shining brightly in the dark sky was a sight to look for. The time we went back dinner was almost ready. We started with barbeque. They also made Jain food. So all those who are Jain you need not worry. They had potato, onion, babycorn, bell pepper, Cottage cheese, tomatoes & mushrooms for barbeque. It was truly delicious with no food colors added to the barbeque & served along with delicious chutney. After that we had Simple, basic daal rice which was just delicious. Their food was worth visiting for. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. (Alcohol is not served there, but you can carry for yourself). After that there was a bonfire. We wished we had a guitarist amongst us to enjoy the bonfire. Then you retire to bed in your tent. Usually two people are there in each tent. The best part about the camping was that there was not a single mosquito to trouble you, which came as a surprise to us. Next day morning we woke up by 7.30 am. The lawn was totally wet due to dew drops. It was so relaxing to walk on the green lawn. Breakfast was served at 8.30 which consist of bread butter, bread jam, poha (also in Jain), Marie & Parle g biscuits, tea & coffee. We took maggi from our home & requested them to make for us which they did. Overall the breakfast was really good. After that one can go for kayaking & boating which is just 10mins away from the camping ground. ( You have to pay for it as it is not included in the package). You can also visit Karnala bird sanctuary early in the morning. (Do not go after 10pm).We left our camping around 11pm with lovely memories to cherish forever.

Big Rent Tent Karnala Great Experience , especially when going with friends & family. Reviews & Ratings.... Amenities - (5) - Great place with nice arrangements, Good spacious parking space, Pakka Toilet & Shower room, Kitchen access if you wanna try cooking, Gated & Safe property with pet dogs at security Accessibility - (4) - Easy to access the location, very close to Karnala Bird Sanctuary, Just less than 1 km off Mumbai Goa Highway. For people who doesnt have their own vehicle can come to Panvel station via local trains from Mumbai and from outside Panvel station they can book a tumtum or private taxi. (Only beneficial if you are a group or else if you are couple or 2-3 people then its recommended to come through your vehicle/bike) Food - (3) - The barbeque arrangement was good but it really didn't impressed me as the barbeque marination was not that good. Dinner was very basic as it only has Dal Rice with Achaar (They can work on adding atleast one type of sabzi & papad or raita to add to the dinner). Breakfast was sufficiently good but if you are a Chaai lover then don't expect the chaai will impress you. You will have to work & adjust on chaai. Other thing is that if you are gonna be boozing, better take sufficient dry snacks with you coz there is limited accesibility to get snacks arrangements locally. Price - (2) - Had been to this place twice, but just because of other factors and not because of price. The price seemed over-price to me as the concept of perhead price of INR 2,100 seemed not justified to me. On top of that, if you are thinking to visit this place in group, don't expect a group package or group concession. (This was disappointing to me as first time I visited with my wife but second time I took my gang of 12 and was expecting to get a package deal but failed to get it). However, in the name of concession just got INR 100 per head concession. Corporate Discount or Group discount is a disappointment I felt

Pros- - Very family oriented site. - Large lawn so you can find your quiet corner yet still be in range of essential services. - Bathrooms are clean, no hot water of course. - The night trek is great to work off the sins of the barbecue session! Our guide was outstanding. - Fans were set up in the tents, it was a hot November. - LOTS of dew in the morning, very beautiful and photogenic. - Lighting is thoughtfully done on the periphery of the site. - Quite close for Mumbaikars. Cons- - Staff are generally slow, setup was done at their own pace, any reminders are just ignored. - Bonfire was promised but never delivered, dinner was late, breakfast was late. - Kitchen area is noisy as Saki Naka / Nal Stop with staff busy arguing and banging dishes around - pitch your tent FAAAR away from this side :) - Wiring for the fans was dangerous as not grounded properly, I got a shock from the socket. - None of the tents were pegged down (I used my own which was properly done). Risky if there's heavy wind overnight. The owner is very helpful, but the service team needs to get some basic training to make this a top notch campground.

Big Red Tent (Karnala) is a great camping site and even very safe for little ones. My kid (3yrs) had a wonderful time and he enjoyed a lot. Dinner (Barbeque and Dal Rice) was good, breakfast was ok type. Tents were very good, enjoyed bonfire as well. Host Zaid was very good along with his support staff Viju, night walk to nearest table top to see stars was a good experience. Overall a recommended camping site.

So we were here this weekend. We had checked in by 5 in the evening to avoid heat. The tents were pitched and we got the shady location which was abless for us. There as we entered we had tea and biscuits. Then we did rest, went towards the river side to chill and were chilling in the benches in fromt of out tents. They also had punching bags kinda things and the swing. Also they have charging plugs to charge your phones, so we were watching movies though. Dinner time we had bbq dinner with potato, panner and mushroom bbq sticks along with dal rice and salad. Evening was a pretty chill. Also to mention washrooms and bathrooms were clean. Secondly they also gave us fan for night sleep as it was too humid there. In the morning they have activities like forest walk and kayaking but we woke up late so we couldnt. We had breakfast around by 8:30-9. We had poha, bhurji and bread butter jam. After that we did bath and checked out since heat. To be honest this was my first camping and i like it. But i will come back in some cool weather out there.
