Magnificent Tudor Mansion, recently restored to display the history of the families and landscape transformation around it. The visiting path is modernly designed, and involving, especially for the youngest, with living guided tours, costumes dressing and practical experiences. Personnel very welcoming and helpful, seems genuinely dedicated to his duty. Ample gardens where to relax and enjoy food and drink from the cafe. Nice visitor shop. Entrance is free, but the place surely deserve a generous donation!

Fabulous Tudor hall in the middle of Salford. Very interesting interior and lovely gardens. Lots of information given here by staff and info boards. Nice little cafe and it's free to visit. Well worth spending some time here.

Really enjoyed visiting Ordsall Hall. We paid for the guided tour and it was very informative. Building is beautifully restored and the gardens were nice too. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because on the website they said they only have a coin parking meter (that doesn't give change). We went through the hassle of getting the exact change needed and turns out there was a park and pay app available. So I'm confused at why they didn't write that on their website, since that would have made things a lot easier for us if we'd known.

A great cheap day out. (Free if you walk there!) Having lived next to Ordsall for a number of years, I felt the need to check it out. Between modern residential streets, Ordsall Hall sits with beautiful architecture and well kept gardens. The staff are really friendly and there are a number of interactive elements for kids. We walked around the whole building in around half an hour. But we could have taken it even slower. With a rich history and some great stuff on display, I highly recommend you check it out.

We really enjoyed our visit here. The hall had a lot of history & ghost stories. The staff were great, and knew every question I asked about the hall. There is a lovely cafe with cakes & well made drinks. It is free but donations would be welcome.

Fascinating multi-century home and gardens, originating from the eleven hundreds, but concentrating on the Tudor era. Knowledgeable staff with interesting insights and humorous anecdotes. A great morning or afternoons activity, five minutes walk from Exchange Quay Metrolink Station. The fact that this place exists in such an urban area, I think is a minor miracle. Free entry - please be generous with a donation.

One of the visitors was talking to a member of staff how said she was total sceptic! Till she had voices talking to her and seeing stuff moving 😳. All in 2 minutes away from City Centre Manchester

As a tourist for the first time in Britain I have to admit my ignorance on British history. My main focus has been on Victorian Gothic, since it is a direct link to the history of my own country. Britain has a long standing relationship with Portugal and culture tends to be shared by these links and parts of history linked. But the Tudor period is not one of these. Portugal and Britain where very different during this period so I was immensely happy on the good starter on Tudor period life and society I got here. I will recommend it strongly.

Lovely old building that is in stark contrast to the modern city buildings that have built up on its doorstep. We had a guided tour and the guide was very friendly, passionate and knowledgeable about the building and its history. We had already done a fair bit of research before visiting so she was able to tell us some of the lesser known history. We have visited many, many old buildings but had never been able to access the attics; however, here you are able to go up and see how the walls and roof were made. There is even signs of graffiti that were scrawled on the walls in the 16yh century when people were hiding there up in the attic. We will definitely be back. They have their own on-site parking that is a reasonably pay and display price.

As a free to visit historical house it was a good find and broke up our last day in Manchester. It isn’t a particularly big venue and you won’t be blown away but it’s historical attributes but it’s a nice visit and has great historical architecture. It won’t take too long to go around the space. We were there for 20 minutes

Fantastic day out. The hall is free and the parking is 5.50 for up to 6 hours. I took my 7 year old to see an outdoor theatre production of Hercules, it was amazing, we are definitely going to go and see an outdoor production there again. Great value for money. Having never been there before, I was really suprised at what we found. The staff who work there are friendly and very informative. The hall itself was great to look around with lots of trying on armour and traditional tudor dress. Outside the grounds are very well kept and we met a gardener who was really helpful with advice on growing sweetcorn and other veg. The cafe and gift shop are reasonably priced. They take card :) The toilets are plentiful and very clean. A great place to go and have a picnic weather (depending) there is also outdoor seating on a terrace,we took our own folding chairs. Fantastic gem of a place . A great day out!(

My wife and I visited today and had a great time. There's a lot of history to be had, beautiful gardens, a small cafe and gift shop, as well as being easy to get to (a short walk from Exchange Quay tram stop). Steve was really friendly and very knowledgeable.

visited sunday 17/10/2020. first visit for many years. I used to live there with my mother and father when dad was the caretaker ( mid 1970's). who the hell authorised a 21st century date stone to deface a beautiful 17th century building? I like it to a "go faster stripe" on an old car. Not a good look! I am sure it will confuse the visitors (especially the kids). Was this ever discussed with the public before the decision to deface the building. I am thinking not. Ah well, the damage has been done and will probably never be undone. A shame to see the old girl marred.

Absolutely brilliant. A trip back in time surrounded by businesses and houses. Seems out of place but is an oasis. An incredibly old building with so much history. Great for adults and children in fact heaps of things for children to do. Cafe for snacks but not main meals. Gift shop. Nice gardens. The people hear are doing a great job looking after the place. There is a carpark in the grounds with disabled spaces. We stayed for 3hrs and it cost us£2.50. This is well worth a visit.

Loved it, awesome place, well worth a visit if you are in the area. It is free entry, has a cafe, toilets and parking. The staff were all happy, friendly, helpful and informative. I watched an interesting video in the museum about the history of the house and the area, which was well worth a watch as it was very interesting. Nice gardens surrounding the house. I had a cuppa and some cake in the cafe after, which was a nice end to my visit.

This place feels like such a gem. It’s so unexpected to see such a historic building right in the middle of modern housing. It probably takes about an hour to visit and look around everything but you could spend longer trying hats and helmets on and taking pictures at the dining table. Very helpful and friendly staff too

  • 5/5 joanne w. 9 months ago on Google
Lovely place, greeted by a very nice friendly lady on entering. Who told us about the place and even took us up in the lift as my husband has a bad back. We watched the video first called tapestry of time which gives you all the information on the hall then we looked around the place, stopping for a cup of tea in the cafe all staff were really nice & couldn't do enough for you, we would recommend this place, if you have small children there are hands on things to do, admission is free, but there is a donation box if you would like to put something in it. Will be returning in the future.

Beautiful and peaceful place. It's actually a kind of museum and also they recreated some history scenes. Overall a beautiful place to visit

  • 3/5 debbie g. 2 years ago on Google
I was a bit disappointed to be honest. Not a lot to see and a lot of places in the hall were cordoned off. I think because it is in the middle of a housing/industrial estate put me off from the start. On the plus side, it's spotlessly clean and there is a video you can watch on the history. The kitchen was good, loved the pig! The gardens are very nice too

A hidden gem in the middle of Salford! Lots of interesting, historical information provided to look at, read and watch short video clips. You can arrive on the day, no need to pre book. It's located in a beautiful location and is a well-kept tranquil place. Good car park facilities. A lovely little shop and café. Beautiful well-maintained gardens. All staff were pleasant, friendly and very informative with their knowledge of the place. A fun day for all ages. Ps view the picture, the ghost is real!

Fascinating place to find in the middle of Salford. Friendly staff very helpful, shame the cafe doesn't do more food but it was a decent cup of coffee! Free entry though the car park is pay and display. Full marks Salford Council for saving the place from wing developed. Plus, it's one of very few attractions in Manchester open on a Monday!

This is a must visit. The staff here are amazing at explaining the history of the place. There are guided tours, kids crafts during the holidays/weekends. I have always loved that kids can explore here and there is lots for them to do which is hands on (trying on clothes etc). They also love a good run around in the gardens.

Waay too underrated! The whole story gave me goosebumps throughout the castle! U cannot go there and tell me it wasn’t worth it! There was amazing staff that u could literally talk to for hours! A lovely lady told us the whole story of that mansion. Even the scary but heartbreaking ghost story (lady in white). Anyways, just the little artifacts and the architecture is worth seeing! So if you’re thinking of visiting, you should definitely go there! There’s even a huge garden surrounding the place!

If you visit the hall now...it does still look a little odd in its surroundings...with an industrial estate and council flats and houses around it...but it is buoyed by the more modern and cosmopolitan Quays area. However...in the mid 80s when we visited from school...it was even more bizarre to see such a beautiful building (newlyish refurbished) in such a dingy and depressing location. Times change though and it is now sort of fitting in its locale. Well worth a visit and a five minute walk from the tram stop...limited opening hours however so definitely plan ahead.

I grew up and went to school not 200 yards away from here. I played in the park but was unaware ot the existence of this building. I came here on this visit with a group of U3A photographers. A wet day. But interesting. A great building, both inside and out. Interesting things in the gardens. A good day out.

Ordsall hall I have heard of before but never been. I was truly surprised at the gardens and the structure of the hall. We were fortunate to go on a working day it was so quiet. Which meant we had a personal guide to show us around the halls various rooms. Most enjoyable. A special thanks to the guide.
