Absolutely stunning place, beautiful house, lovely garden's. We saw some of the local dear too. Would definitely recommend. We had a national trust membership so we didn't have to pay to get in or in the gardens. Definitely going to go back and take a picnic next time. There is a gift shop and cafe which serves tea coffee etc

Great parks with wild deer wandering free. The gardens are well maintained and fully accessible. We didn't go round the house this time but will next visit. There's plenty of places to eat and drink with lots of sitting areas outside and in. Recommended for all ages and families for a day out. I'm looking forward to going back at Christmas.

Lovely place to chill and relax, get away from 'it all', been quiet often over the years, gardens so peaceful, house is amazing. Don't always see the Dears (depends on weather I think) but when it's nice, they come really close. Nice cafe too. Yes, wheelchair friendly. NT People so nice.

Get to this place early, as it can get quite busy, especially on sunny weekends - and also the fairly expensive entry fee (£8.00 for a Non Member Adult at January 2022) means that you won't get to enjoy this place properly if you arrive late. At the time of visiting, the House was closed for maintenance, and only the Deer Park & Garden were open - lovely places for a stroll, with the opportunity to meet the resident Fallow Deer (don't feed them, please). A large shop with lovely refreshments on offer make this a nice family day out - but it would be significantly better if you could visit the House too (a higher entrance fee would apply - but would be worth it).

Wow our first year at the Christmas lights after missing out last this was a must for us. Amazing walk through the park in the darkness with festive lights all around the music of various types to get us in the festive spirit. Didn't spend the £2 for single marshmallow will take our own next time but plenty of little festive shops and rides to spend if you want too, was happy with just the walk and talk around the trek, defo gets you in the spirit £75 for a family of 4 (3 adult and 1 child) but it's Christmas. Loved it

A house and grounds steeped in history. A nice flat walk around the perimeter of the deer park, recently relaid around parts to make it easier and less muddy in rainy weather. The house and gardens are well maintained and good to look around. Well worth a visit.

Lovely, well managed parkland with nice wide, even pathways. Very picturesque walk with the dogs, and it was great to see all the deer wondering around and be able to get quite close to them. Went early morning on a Sunday, and was pretty quiet, but was getting very busy by the time we left around 12:30.

Went to see the Winter gardens. Little too early as all the snowdrops weren't out just yet. Even so if you're looking for inspiration for winter garden plants there's so many different varieties to see. Lovely food in the cafe for lunch so had to go back for coffee and cake in the afternoon. Well worth the walk around the deer park too.

Lovely place to walk around. The gardens were fantastic, especially with all the Christmas bits to see. Would have been better to see it lit up but we attended during the day. The deer park was lovely to walk around too.

Enjoyed our visit here very much. The house is amazing and the staff are friendly & very informative. Lots of safe parking spaces. Lovely gardens and parkland to walk around. It was great seeing the deer who are very tame and placid wandering around the park.

Large grounds, massive mansion and lots of deer! The visitors centre is huge, clean one of the best in the whole national trust estate. They serve Snugburys ice cream which is a massive win! The gardens are beautiful with a massive variety of flowers. The "flower of the week" is one to look out for. Easily accessible from the M6.

A truly wonderful day, the sunshine helped. This was my first visit to a National Trust destination where I saw deer roaming amongst the trees and were next to people. I got my steps in on this visit with around 5 staircases in the house, which was a great step into the past as all the houses are. The staff were all friendly and helpful, this all adds to make a visit a visit really great or awesome. They had a large gift shop and had lots of flowers and plants ready to enhance your garden. If you haven't been a member or not, then get yourself there exercise fresh air truly a great benefit to your health. The ice cream was delicious to something you should try.

Dunham Massey, what a fantastic place. The house is amazing, starting off around the old dairy and laundry then through to the kitchen area and butlers quarters, there is a great atmosphere around these areas very nostalgic. Then up through the house where you will find some beautiful rooms and collections. There is also the garden area which is a wonderful place to explore, so many places to find some fantastic plants, trees and flowers. As well as the gardens there is a beautiful deer park where you to can walk through and experience the deer roaming free and often walking up and feeding right next to you, All the staff and volunteers were very friendly and helpful, and a special mention to Mike Allen for his very knowledgeable tour around the gardens. Highly recommend this beautiful place for a fantastic day out. Will definitely visit again.

If you are national trust members, then Dunham Massey is free to enter, as are the gardens and house. However, you can park outside the grounds and walk in for free. Cost of entry is £8.50 per adult or £4.25 per child. The gardens, which are worth while entering, cost around £3.50. Unfortunately, the house was closed when I went in mid-December. There are several restaurants located within the grounds serving a variety of sandwiches and hot snacks. The toilets are also located in the same area, near the main entrance and house, but the majority of Dunham Massey consists of parkland walks where no toilets are to be found. The park offers easy walking trails on well maintained paths. There is a deer sanctuary in Dunham Massey, consisting of around 150 deer, although in these particular areas, one must stick to the path. The walks are pleasant and picturesque with several small lakes dotted around here and there. In all, a visit to the park is well worth the money.

Absolutely beautiful grounds, well kept and a pleasure to walk about! A hall to visit (we didn't, we were too hungry to stay longer!), gardens and beautiful old trees! Stairs and ramps and accessible for everyone. Great to take the bike, kick a ball, play badminton. Dogs are allowed on the lead. A magnificent 500 yo oak tree and deer to observe quite closely (not encouraged to feed or approach the wild life there!). This is a National Trust attraction and please be aware it costs per person to entry and park, not by car. They have ample car park. We paid £20 for 2 adults and a child to enter (I think it was £8 per adult and they had a deal for a family I think?! We knew there were some cafe/restaurants and planned to eat there, only to find out one closes at 3 and the other even though closed at 5 they stopped serving hot food at 3 as well. What was left was a poor selection of ridiculously overpriced sandwiches and hot pasties served by people who didn't want to be there either. £2.25 for HALF a sandwich (kid's sandwich they said!) Two thin slices of bread with one thin slice of ham inside OR a thin slice of cheese. Wrapped in plastic with an attractive label as if they were some gourmet treats! £5.25 for a Cornish pasty and £2.75 for a TINY square of flapjack. We were hungry so we didn't pay attention to the cakes, but they were quite a few on display. Being so hungry and not really having a reasonable and decently priced choice ruined the end of the day and filtered everything through "OMG we drove an hour and paid £20 to come walk in a park and eat overpriced pasties!" We did our best to appreciate it's in support of the National Trust and they do a splendid conservation and management job across the UK. My 11yo entertained himself making a YouTube video about his over priced flapjack for fun and we used the experience to count our blessings when we walk in Moses Gate and have the most amazing meal in Henighans! Also we had some interesting conversations about what dictates good value for money, the experience served its purpose (even though not the one to feed us properly). I'm writing to let people know, so they have a chance to prepare better than we did. A beautiful place to visit overall. I can't take an extra star off for our bad planning, but 1 star still stays off for the disappointing restaurant experience.

Always a pleasure to walk here, whether it be just a few kilometers, a picnic, a walk to the Swan with Two Nicks or with Archie, my Golden Retriever. Please keep all dogs leashed and under control. So many times I've seen them escape, leash in tow, chasing the deer. Dunham Massey has changed over the years, since I started coming as a small boy, born back in 1975. All the paths that are there now haven't always been there and the deers were more plentiful. It wasn't uncommon to wander off the desire lines and find a deer skull or bones of some description. A desire line is an unplanned route or path (such as one worn into a grassy surface by repeated foot traffic) that is used by pedestrians in preference to or in the absence of a designated alternative (such as a paved pathway)

Lovely day out at Dunham Massey. What a fabulous place this is; can't believe we haven't explored here sooner. A lovely amble around the deer park, and the deer were so tame, we were just a few yards from them. Gardens are stunning. House is magnificent, and the staff were proactively informative about each room, and very approachable and friendly. Lovely shop and cafe ... pasties recommended. Will definitely return.

The bus routes are not the best to get to this place, so I'd not recommend the public transport to travel here. The parking lot is huge, the park itself also huge. The visitors house offers handmade beauty, clothing, homeware and food goods. The park consists of 3 parts, house, park and garden. You can buy tickets to any or all together. The fallow deer were not afraid of us, and the guests treated them with respect too. Seen at least 50 squirrels too. The gardens are well kept and beautiful. Early June must be the perfect time to visit as the rose garden will be in full bloom in few weeks. Will visit again and would recommend.

Haven't been for years so decided to have a day out with the family. We didn't go into the house but we did explore the grounds and they are stunning. Such an amazing and well looked after site with lots of wildlife around to see. Definitely worth a visit

Fantastic display of lights! The duo were skeptical about doing this trail 😅, But it was well worth it eventually. So magical and calming. The different Christmas songs and lights displays on land and water were all brilliant! The kids indulged in couple of rides at the end, there wasn’t much but that’s not the main attraction so it’s ok. Our only lessons learnt was our foot wear, it was quite wet/muddy on parts of the trail as expected really, asides that, we were happy! Christmas @ Dunham Massey 👍🏾

Went for the Christmas lights walk. Can't plan the weather but it did mean it was likely a little quieter than it normally would be. Lots of food and drink options to start and also in the way round. The fire lamps was a nice warm favourite spot for quite a few people!

The Christmas lights were fantastic. Well worth the visit for little ones. As you can imagine, the drinks and food are pricey. Overall, great night out, will organised and courteous staff.

Dunham is very local to me and one of my favourite places. It has everything I need. A lovely walk, it's a deer park, it has a great cafe and a shop with all sorts of lovely things. There's even a little outside area selling a nice selection of plants. If you are not a member, the car parks are a little pricey but it's well worth the money. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Andrew W. 3 years ago on Google
Great place to take the family out walking during lockdown. Has a grand house (currently closes) and at least 5 different walking trails which take you around the estate. If you're lucky you will also see deer roaming free. There is a large car park with disabled parking, an indoor cafe serving take away and a van serving drinks and snacks. During busier days there is also a pizza van creating a selection of fresh to order pizzas.

  • 5/5 Olly P. 3 years ago on Google
Great place, we went when they had the light being turned on at Christmas. They had a nice wide path all the way around their complex allowing for an enjoyable but safe walk around. The little shops or huts selling food has perspex screens protecting the employees and the customers which was good. Would go again as the lights were amazing. Children would love it. There are plenty of parking spaces so no need to worry about where you leave the car. Toilets were nice for a national trust place. Go and see for yourself and have fun! 5/5

  • 5/5 Colin R. 3 years ago on Google
What an amazing place for a nice walk with beautiful scenery, time to chill & unwind whilst watching the deer roam freely. The facilities are great too and plenty to choose from when eating & drinking, I'm very lucky to have this National Park on my doorstep and hence why I'm a member. Lastly the Christmas lights walk through they do are absolutely awesome and really gets you in the mood for Christmas 🎄.

  • 5/5 Hayley F. 3 years ago on Google
So much to explore with little kids. The cafe was a life saver (they serve coffee). The ice cream parlour is closed due to Covid but they still serve ice lollies at least. You can easily spend a good couple of hours there, take a picnic!x

Went to the Xmas Lights show there, Very well organized, plenty of Security/Park Staff to help. Hired a Mobility Scooter (free to hire) which was like everything there, High Quality. Quite a walk to the start of the light show trail but was very good.Lots of loo's and food stands before and whilst on trail (all take card only) Amazing displays with Real Santa 🎅 at the end and then light tunnel. Definitely recommend. Lightopia at Heaton Park was better for kids last year but is not the same this year, Dunham Massey is Def better.. 👌👍🎄🎅 Also it is all outdoors so definitely wrap up Warm ❄️🌨️

Great house and walking with deer in the gardens, what more could you want.. Well important to check which parts of the house are open on the day you go but the characters who dress up are excellent and knowledgeable. The only other issue is the restaurants, both very busy difficult to just get a coffee, maybe need a pop up like other NT sites

  • 5/5 Daena G. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely stunning grounds and amazing scenery. The house was beautifully laid out and my partner and I were keen to see more. Their "Hospital during the war" displays were really thought out, told a great story and really connected you to the people that lived in the House at the time. Really impressed. Plus the deer were out, the squirrels were running amok and there were birds and bees out everywhere. The Cafe and shop had a good lunch selection of hot and cold food (including ice-cream). A great day out for the whole family.

Got entry as part of the national trust. Well worth a visit. Deer are not scared of people, but would still be careful near them. House was set out well with good information and the "guides" where very informative. (Have missed this in other National teust places recently, nice to see the volunteers back). Cafe was very nice and staff were all very friendly.

Spent a good few hours enjoying the parkland, house and cafes. Beautiful rose beds and other cultivated gardens. Lots of mature trees and walks. Numerous deer that you can get very close to. National trust know how to offer the public an informative and relaxing day out.

A pleasant walk around the park watching the deer, a stroll around the formal gardens and a visit to the house for some history. Add a cup of tea in the nice new cafe terrace, and you have a nice 3 hours or so.

Highly recommended. So much nature to see on your walks. The house garden, prize winning Winter Garden, always have something new with each season. October for me brings a new perspective in the Rose Garden, stop and look closer at the roses as the growing season ends. Roses are not just for summer.

A lovely autumnal walk through the grounds. We saw deer, squirrels , nuthatch , jay, jackdaws and parakeets?! All the usual high quality & tempting National Trust merchandise in the shop. Some tasty coffee & chocolate brownies enjoyed. Enjoyable afternoon.

We had a great day out here, it's nice to see the animals just wondering around doing what they do rather than in cages. National trust does a great job looking after the animals and plants at their properties as well as preserving local history.

  • 4/5 Greg H. 2 years ago on Google
A nice area to walk around with your dog. Not as big as Tatton Park, but then pricing is more expensive being based on a per person charge rather than per car. You do get access to the house and gardens for that though. House was closed for winter, and couldn't take the dogs in even if it was open. Took us about 2 hours to walk the grounds and gardens. Would return.

  • 5/5 Beverley D. 2 years ago on Google

I saw only one deer, it’s not well connected at all. I spent an hour waiting for an Uber, I ended up walking around 20 min to the bus stop, the bus didn’t show up. It was a bad experience as a tourist, however the place was nice.

We went for the Christmas lights. Stalls are priced really high which, given the price of admission, is a bit of a mick take. Kids were happy to meet Father Christmas and he was pretty good but aside from that it was just an over subscribed walk in the woods.

  • 5/5 Andrew M. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely park and a great walk. Was there most of the day and still didn't manage to do most of the park. Stunning views and wildlife, shame people can't learn to respect the space the animals deserve. If you do visit, please keep your distance from the deer and respect their space.

  • 4/5 Rebecca B. 2 years ago on Google
Very busy here, the queue for the cafe was snaking outside. The walk around the grounds are beautiful. The deer are very calm and tame, my 2 little ones loved being able to be so close to them. There were lots of different spaces to enjoy with different things to see and read about.

Georgian house set in formal gardens and parkland. Sadly the house in not open when we went but the gardens and parkland are beautiful. You walk from the carpark into the shopping/cafe/facilities. Then you can walk through into the park, gardens and house etc. We walked round the park to the pond where there are ducks, geese and swan. Through a gate where you can see the deer and even a few squirrels, plus bird life. Then back for something to eat in the lovely Stable restaurant. Which is very clean, it is up stairs but has a lift. With full tummies we walked around the gardens and saw the Christmas displays. Sadly the lights were not on but I can imagine it is magical when they are. They have the "Heart Arch Walk", "Triangulate" and "Snowflake Alley" amongst others. A must see. A beautiful place and one we will be coming back to.

The Christmas Light Show was amazing, perfect for all the family. So many different ‘scenes’ to experience with plenty of sights and sounds for all the family. Lovely range of food and drink, dotted around the place. Well well worth the visit.

Had a lovely morning here. There's plenty of parking with lot's of disabled bays. There's a new looking visitor centre with a good cafe, shop and toilets. The gardens are quite large with a great variety of plants and features. Gardens didn't look thire best due to the light trail and being winter.

Absolutely brilliant, I would definitely recommend going for the Christmas light show. It's not just for kids but adults too. You have a couple of rides on the way in for kids then in to a Xmas Market for some food and drinks before entering the walk. You can also get drinks and snacks on the way round and roast some marshmallows on the open fires.

How can you not give this place 5 stars!? What a beautiful Hall in magnificent surroundings. The people who care for this place also can tell you so much about it as their love for the place very clear when doing so. The Christmas light show is really lovely. Some people complain about this and that but in the end it’s what you make it. The deer are the icing on the cake. But please do not try to go near them they are wild animals and although they might seem tame you have to take that they are wild animals on board!

Came for the light walk in December and it was better than I expected! Really well thought out and easy to get round. The marshmallow stand halfway round was really fun and a nice warm break at that time of year. We will be coming back to Dunham soon to have a walk round in the day, I hadn't been for a long time prior to the lights but remember it being lovely 😊

We arrived early afternoon, so we limited ourselves to the house and surroundings. Helpful attendants as always, is a plus. Also, around the house were seats clearly marked 'Feel free to sit here...', this was a major plus for us and for any disabled or elderly people. 5 Stars for that!

Wonderful deer park, thoughtful formal gardens and a decent cafe. Also, a great starting point for walks along the Bridgewater Canal. National Trust members get free access as part of their membership. Entrance to car park is per person not per car, so be warned!

First ever visit to Dunham Massey to see Christmas lights. Amazing experience and staff extremely friendly. Loved toasting marshmallows and the picture show on the house was brilliant. We decided to return the following day to find the deer and have a walk around. Really disappointed at being charged per person for parking!!

We love Dunham Massey for a family day out, beautiful grounds to go deer spotting, then gorgeous gardens that change throughout the year so different each time we go, we also had the privilege of going in the house, seeing where there was a hospital set up during the world war, full of history. Plenty of parking would recommend.

Lovely day out. Great for walking and jogging around. Prices, pay per person now, not per car. Price includes Deer park and the gardens and parking, to visit the house you have to pay extra. Cafe and restaurant and Ice cream parlour, lovely clean toilets.

A fabulous walk as usual. I love how the deers are beautifully free roaming around and enjoying nature and we can experience this with them right next to us.

This was a great place to spend time with our dog until we could visit family who were working. The deer park was great and it was good to be able to go in the gardens after 12pm. There are many varied spaces throughout the whole park and gardens and some fresh running water near the mill. Food and facilities are also of a good standard.

We had a great day out with our Children. We took a picnic but there is a cafe serving food and drinks. We did not have time to walk around all of the paths but we had fun playing in the trees. Did not see any deer this time but have done previously. Dog friendly

Have been visiting place in different seasons, this time has been blown away with the Lights Display! Absolutely amazing! Truly enjoyed! Displays are spectacular, great choice of music, well guided throughout. Well organised food stalls and facilities for eating outside. Parking available, though not for free. Highly recommended!

My 11 year old loved his time here. Park is beautiful and you can see deer everywhere. There was guided tour for free at the start of the garden. Tour started at around 11:30 I guess and guide had so much knowledge about the park and it's building. I am sure all kids are going to love the park and it's nice day out. Cafe had few options to eat. We had lovely tea and pasty.

Visited on a weekend, quite busy as very popular place with plenty to see. Beautiful gardens to take a leisurely stroll and see some gorgeous views. House itself is well maintained and volunteers are very friendly - consistent with all National Trust venues. Huge grounds to explore, would take a good few hours to see it all. Restaurant, shop and restroom facilities. Free parking.

Absolutely fantastic family time Wish I had known about this brilliant place before! Beautiful from the second you enter, every bit of it was beautiful. We were lucky to go on a lovely sunny day but I suspect it’s just as nice on other days The gardens and the flowers within are stunning Deers come up close The architecture is stunning Visitors were very respectful and staff very courteous and helpful also The entry fee is very fair also, would love to visit again soon

We wished we had more time to spend here! We arrived just as a tour of the park was starting so we joined in. The guide was very knowledgeable about the house and grounds and shared lots of information about the deer in the park. We will definitely visit again as we ran out of time to see the house and formal gardens.

Beautiful gardens and great walks which are suitable for all ages and abilities! Nice cafe and ice-cream truck. Clean toilets and knowledgeable volunteers scattered around the park

Fantastic hall with large gardens surrounding it. Can't believe I haven't been considering I've lived close by for over 30 years. The guides are excellent and very well informed, they also managed to handle my very inquisitive children well!

Most complete / original Georgian house that I've been to. Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Grounds / gardens are also great. You could spend quite a while walking all of the property. Staff on site with some interesting bits of history. The visitor centre has a shop, toilets, cafe, and small garden centre.

The deer park at Dunham Massey is fantastic for kids. They roam free and there are a few volunteers dotted around to ensure people don't get too close so it's very safe. The gardens are lovely for a little walk around, play for the kids or sit on one of the benches. There was also a little musical play area when we visited yesterday. Both my children loved it- they are 1 and 4. We had a look around the house which was really good. My 4 year old even enjoyed it! We ate at the café too. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. We finished the day off with some ice cream which I can also highly recommend 😊

Excellent visit. The deer park is wonderful. Vey nice cafes and restaurants. Beautiful kept gardens. The history of the house was very interesting and as usual The National Trust has restored the rooms very well and you get a great insight of life there over the different eras.

Lovely place to visit. Lots of walking and it was wonderful having the Deer just roam past as we were walking round. Small outdoor area for kids to play on but there are plenty of logs/tree stacked for kids to climb on. Great also for a walk with dogs. Staff were absolutely lovely and really helpful.

Lovely park to wander round, enjoying the woodlands and looking out for the deer and rabbits. Great for families with wide open spaces, good pathways for prams and wheelchairs. Accessible cafe, though a little pricey and long queues at certain times, with a range of cakes and treats as well as sandwiches, pasties and baked potatoes. NT shop and garden plants to browse. If you choose, you can pay to go into the formal garden or the house and watermill, but there's plenty to see without. All in all, a great day out in dry weather.

Big gardens to explore, lots to see. Then if your still not tired go a walk around the parklands & see the dears, but remember they are wild animals but there are loss. I would go back, think it would look pretty in the snow
