This place is an absolute scam. An awful business, that is clearly only there to take advantage of tourists. They tried to make us pay $35 USD for two coffees and a small piece of cake. (Which we didn't eat, because the cake tasted like they had sprayed it with some sort of chemical cleaning product.) Before we ordered, we asked if they accepted Argentinian Pesos. They said they did. Then, when we went to pay, the owner just made up his own arbitrary exchange rate on the spot. (Which equated to $35.) We showed him the actual exchange rate on our phones, but he insisted on his completely made up figure. I then offered to pay with a credit card in Uruguayan Pesos, and he told me that they have a $25 minimum for credit cards. (Which they don't mention or advertise anywhere.) As we walked out, we noticed that all of the tables had left desserts that were hardly touched. I really think they sprayed them all with some sort of preservative to keep them looking nice in the display, as it was inedible. Avoid this place at all costs.

SCAM ALERT! This man is a thief. He stole from my husband 2300 Argentine pesos. We are Americans, and came to Uruguay from Buenos Aires (since we are staying in Buenos Aires for vacations) to spend the day and get to know the place. We ended up going to this restaurant bc of the view, and ordered 2 “licuados” (milkshakes) they were 200 uruguayan pesos each. When we asked for the check, he said he didnt accept debit, yet later we found out he had the machine. He said he didnt take debit or credit, didn’t bring us a check, only said that. We were so nervous because this wasnt listed anywhere, and we only had some Argentine pesos. So, we asked him how much it was in ARS and he said 4000! Come to find out after he scammed us with the exchange and to so many more people. We went back like an hour later and confronted him about this and showed him the actual exchange price. He charged us 120 % more!!! When we confronted him , he only said okay , and didnt give us our money back. Horrible first impression of Uruguayans now unfortunately. This never happened to us in Argentina. The place itself is nice but the people are not, and this man is for sure a scammer. Beware

Unos ladrones, a SCAM! I put one star only because you cannot rate 0 star... Worst place i have ever been to, avoid at all cost, everything is organised to scam you. First it is very expensive: 7 usd ( 280 pesos uruguayos) for a black coffee, even in NY you will pay less... Then they told us they only accept credit card with a minimum of 25 usd ( which is not legal) so they asked us to order something more to reach that amount, as 2 coffees is only 14 usd :( Finally after negociating they accepted to do an exception and accept the credit card ( how nice!), But he tried to scam us again in the total ( trying to rob us on the addition, we had to do again 3 times the count with him so that he finally admitted that our count was the good one as he had tried to charge us 4 usd more. Then he added 10% because we paid by credit card ( which was of course not mentionned on the menu he handed us when we ordered, but was mentionned on the menu he presented us at the end, how convenient). At the end we paid 16 usd for 2 coffees :( and the waiter told us we should be happy because he accepted that we pay by card.

Tried to fool us with the exchange rate plus the carrot cake tasted nasty. Would not recommend.

The outside tables are right under a tree, and from there you get a lovely view of Colonia. The waiter who served us was one of the kindest people who ever served me. We had an afternoon snack made of delicious Ginger lemonade, savoury toasts and pies and they were delicious. The prices are more on the expensive side but it was still fair for want we had.

Scam alert. This place only exists to rip off tourists. I paid $8 for hot chocolate that was just lukewarm water with some chocolate syrup squirted in (I watched him make it!) I never saw a menu or prices. I just mentioned that I was looking for hot chocolate when I entered and he was already making it. I never had a chance to see the price. Don't under any circumstances go to this cafe! I promise you will be sorry you did!

Stay away from this cafe. Besides that it is very expensive and for two coffees and a dessert we paid $1000 about 25 euros. The owner is dirty. He took new glasses out of the box without washing them and served the coffees, He took the money with their hands and then made sweets with his dirty hands, he took the mate straw with his hands and the worst one he drank from the cup of a customer after first he had tasted with his mouth. Attention, the store is a sanitary bomb.

Beautiful small coffee place with nice atmosphere and polite staff. You can sit outside and enjoy the vibe of the streets of Barrio Viejo. Not only coffee and hot drinks but also wine is being served. Perfect for a merienda!

Unfortunately we were taken in by the beautiful flowers over the top of the restaurant, but this place would get no stars if possible. Way too expensive, glasses were dirty, wine tasted off and had bits floating in it, and when I said this to the waitress she put her finger in my drink! Honestly we paid just to leave

Super rude treatment by the owner. Treats employees and customers badly. Very, very stupid. Cold coffee and old desserts. The place is beautiful, but not worth the experience at all. Run away from this place!
