Small art museum free to the public. Bottom floor contains mostly traditional art, with many by the famous Uruguayan painter Blanes. Top floor is modern art, which is not my style, but to each their own.

Beautiful sculpture garden with a cafe right out front of the building. The collection ranges from sculptures, to paintings and video installations. Each section of the museum was incredibly well curated with themes and media. Great mix of classic works and contemporary. I noticed a new exhibition was being installed when I visited and that tells me they rotate their exhibitions greatly leaving the visitor/ viewer with something new to come back and experience. Highly recommended on a nice day and even a rainy one . :)

Luckily it's free, hands down the least interesting art museum I've been to after visiting them in dozens of different countries. Genuinely shocked this is a national gallery of any sort. There's a handful of art that is mildly interesting but most is extremely repetitive and just bad. There's honestly about 4 or 5 pieces of work that are worth looking at. The majority is very simplistic and not interesting. Think literally about 30 or 40 different arrangements of basic shapes placed side by side each other as if they're monumental works of art worthy of being regarded as a grand collection. One or two of these would surely be sufficient but the museum (and country?) apparently lacks anything else worthy of being hung in their national gallery. Only giving 2 stars since it's free and there were 2 pieces of work I genuinely enjoyed looking at, and a few others that were okay.

This is one of the most important museums in the country. It has some iconic pieces of Uruguayan art, like Carlotta and Cuneo works. It is not the most impressive museum ever. It is publicly underfunded. The exhibits are small. But it's always free!

Don’t miss this best collection of contemporary art in Uruguay. The museum is free and you can get a good feel of it in 15 to 20 minutes. It might look closed at first so check the door.

Nice museum in Montevideo. Located in Parque Rodó, near downtown Montevideo, the museum presents a permanent show of national artists and itinerant shows of both national and international high level artists. The gardens in the front yard landscape are also a must... It worth a visit. And it is absolutely gratis.

Great museum with free access. Love Carlos Federico Saez - see his pictures. Uruguayan artist died in 1901 at the age of 23 years old.

Cool but not very impressive. The coffee, in front, is a beatiful place to visit :) ☕️

Unfriendly staff. For whatever reason, it is prohibited to charge a mobile device. In my case, I was running low and just wanted to charge my camera for 2 minutes. Not possible. In general, the exhibition was nice though.

Small but beautiful collection of Uruguayan artists. Entry is free. You can find great art books in their shop at fair prices.

Very good collection of male Uruguayan artists. Huge disappointment that only the male perspective is represented here.

Not a bad place. Nice staff, but not to much to see.

Two floors of museum. Most are from argentina painters. Liked a few and worth it if nothing else to do

Very small museum with some cool art. Nothing special but it’s free.

Good museum, interesting collection, national artists, modern art. Very nice modern building, next to Parque Rodo. Many of the collection's works with 3-D replicas of key works for visually impaired people. But not very open to children, first situation in Urugay, being approached for child leaning on a seat, because obviously only sitting was allowed. Otherwise definitely worth a visit.
