Good hostel, but a few improvements. Great location and social spaces and excellent value for money. Stayed here for a couple of nights in a private room. Hostel is very central, located less than 5 minutes away from the Plaza Mayor. Value for money is excellent and the hostel had some great social spaces, namely the rooftop bar and the lobby bar. Room was clean but a little shabby. Paint was peeling off the walls, the floor was heavily scuffed and the curtains very worn. It was serviceable and acceptable but could definitely do with some cheap improvements (lick of paint, floor clean, new curtains) to enhance it. Service was on the whole okay. Staff were friendly however didn’t go out of their way. For example, one day when I asked the bar if they sold bottled water, I had the response ‘Just drink the tap water’ which I found a bit abrupt. Them not selling it wasn’t an issue, however they could have made a recommendation. Overall, it was a good find and excellent value and location so would stay again if in Madrid. Thank you!

Honestly forgot we were staying in a hostel, it was so nice. My friend and I had a double room with an en suite bathroom. The location is super central to major site and honestly most other things are about a 20 minute walk at most. The room was very clean, well furnished, and we felt very safe. Plus, the rooftop bar is so cool. Thank you to the amazing staff too!

A fantastic hostel! We had booked a 4 person dorm for the two of us, but when we arrived they upgraded us to a private 2 bed room at no extra cost. The beds were super clean and comfortable, and the shower was amazing. We didn’t have the breakfast but we walked past it every day and it smelled super good.

This is a very amazing hostel. It's right in the centre with everything in Madrid walkable. It's just next to the plaza mayor. The rooms are very nice and clean. The beds are big enough. They have a common area in the basement which they call a cave as it is in cave form. Rooftop has a very nice restaurant. They also have a self laundry service. The staff is very helpful. This hostel is the right mix of the professional and social hostel. The only negative is the shower door in the dorm room is very illogical. It opens inside the shower area and needs the whole area to open and close. So practically it is not possible to close it when taking shower which ultimately leads to water going outside the shower area and making the whole bathroom wet.

I stayed in Sept 2022. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was nice and everyone had a good vibe. It was my first time ever in a hostel and I felt comfortable! Just expect the elevator would be slow and you might want to take the stairs instead of waiting.

Very clean rooms and beds are comfortable. Staff are very friendly and there’s someone on the help desk if you need anything. They have breakfast but we didn’t opt for it. The location is great, all the tourists attractions is very close to the hostel so much say location is great. The only drawback was there are no windows.

Definitely work a visit if you’re staying in town, right next to the square and also Mercado de San Miguel (definitely visit this place) also it super easy to get around from here, the metro isn’t far and the main bus and train stations are within 20 min walk. The rooftop terrace has a cool vibe and the drinks are reasonably priced.

I stayed there for 6 days Best decision ever. The staff is just great!!!! Always helpful and full of patients. The rooms are really nice. The beds are clean and the lockers are big enough. The kitchen is clean. I think that there could be more thought of the common areas. Ive met some solo travelers like me and we all missed some chances to communicate. I think there should be more music on the roof top and some atmosphere 😉

This hostel is saved by its incredible staff and its excellent beds. This is the only hostel I've ever stayed at that provides you with two pillows. A small touch, but it makes all the difference. The bar on the roof is incredible too, but it is not traveller-friendly (price-wise). It would be awesome if there was a separate bar area (not the lobby) that served basic drinks at fair prices for guests - this would also make it easier to socialise. The free sangria was a bit ridiculous some nights. One bottle of wine between 12+ people is not ideal. Overall, excellent hostel, but could be drastically improved on the social front.

It's alright. I had a 4 bed bedroom and would often hit my head on the ceiling when climbing into the top bunk because there were an extrusion. Beautiful rooftop, decent bathrooms, and the rooms were fine except it was pretty noisy sometimes. Would not recommend the breakfast, simply not worth it. It is a buffet, but it does not really have much. Would go here again simply because I met some cool people here.

So this was my first time EVER staying in a hostel and I have to say, Wow! This hostel is in a prime location in the middle of Madrid! You can go on any direction and you will be surrounded with anything you might need! Bars, cafes, restaurants, shopping centres.... Everything is within walking distance. The hostel itself is amazing! The staff were super friendly and very easy to deal with! The Hat has a nice rooftop patio where you can eat and drink for a great price! There are a lot of other amenities they offer (like a kitchen where you can cook your own food if you would like to, bar hopping trips to see all the different bars in the area, and supplies you with irons, bottle opener, cups, etc.). The one negative thing I have to say about the facility is that the beds were a bit uncomfortable (felt springs while laying on it) (*note to management* I would recommend to upgrade your beds to be a little more comfortable with a thicker cushion). Regardless of that, I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here! Thank you to the staff for the great Hospitality, and amazing first time experience in a hostel. I look forward to visiting again in the future!

Beautiful and really modern hostel! Great location right in the city close to bars, restaurant, metro etc. the people who worked there were really nice, everything was really clean and modern! They have a great terrace you can sit on all day - in the evening (I think just on the weekend) they have a great bar oben up there for food and nice drinks. They offer also a great breakfast buffet on the terrace every morning for just 6€! They offer every morning a free walking tour and every evening a free sangria workshop with sangria included! I loved everything! Great people stayed in the hostel and I am happy that it was not an party party hostel. I will recommend it and I will definitely come back!! Thank you

I had a great time staying here. The hostel was large, clean, and had nice common areas. However, one big disadvantage for me was the kitchen. In my opinion, you should be able to cook in a hostel. This hostel only had fridges, a sink and a microwave/oven. I think there should also be a stove, pots and pans, et cetera, because the whole point of hostels is saving money. The people working there were very nice!

🚨 This review is only for the rooftop bar 🚨 Food and drinks were overpriced but that would have been fine if the service wouldn’t have been absolutely abysmal. Our server had a horrible attitude and just gave us condescending looks when my friend asked for a quesadilla without mayonnaise. And it wasn’t even a language barrier because I translated everything to Spanish for her. He was just highly impatient and it seemed like every question we asked him was a huge burden. We felt extremely uncomfortable especially when we asked him if we could each pay for what we ordered and he just sighed and rolled his eyes before he told us to just pay one for all and then when we refused he exasperatingly went to ask his colleague for help with a calculator.

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. The beds are comfortable, they give you two pillows and the blanket is larger than a usual one. The room is big enough for everyone to have enough space for their luggage and to move around, the lockers are big and the air doesn’t get stuffy. There’s a full bathroom in the room but there are also more bathrooms on the hallway. Everything is kept very clean. The staff is super friendly and ready to help you with whatever you need. We really enjoyed our stay and would come again.

Great hostel. A bit of a chiller vibe but they still organize events like a sangria workshop where you can socialize and go out if you want. Steven at the front desk was great, friendly and attentive and gave me some good recommendations to eat. If I find myself in Madrid again I would not hesitate to stay here.

Was recommended to us as a nice terrace to have a beer and enjoy the view... service was rather slow... we were put into a corner although there was plenty of space available and no view unless you get one of the very few spots at the end of the terrace... quite pricey for what it was....

Can’t beat location in Madrid. Close to absolutely everything. Got a free upgrade which was unexpected and made the stay even better. Rooms are spacious but bathrooms could have a better layout. Staff are the best and will help you with whatever you need. Best hostel in Madrid!

One of the best hostel experiences I had! The location is amazing, common areas are cool, but mostly the stuff was amazingly friendly and helpful with everything. The bed was really comfortable and everything seemed clean. Much recommended🙏🏻

Great stay! Noisy, but that was expected. We didn't stay long enough to experience all the amenities, can see how this would be great for a longer stay especially for younger travelers. 6€ breakfast was great and very nice staff. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect location, central and close to everything. Walked everywhere from the hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and tipo buffet (€6). They kept our bags in a locked room before check-in and after check-out. WiFi works perfectly. They also have a cool terrace with a bar. We received a free beer after checking-in. Definitely recommended! Thanks guys!

This is a great hostel the location is fantastic located right in the center of Madrid. All the attractions are fairly close by for example the Royal Palace was only 10-15 min walk away. The room I stayed in was good as well. it was quite spacious and the bed was comfortable. And the staff was friendly. One of the best hostels I have stayed in and I would definitely recommend the hostel if you are looking for a cheap hostel to stay in for a few nights.

Me and my friends stayed in this amazing hostel/hotel for 2 full days and have been extremely happy. We were a group of 7 people and ended up taking the entire dorm of 8 people. We were provided a seperate washroom which was super clean. The staff were very respectful, helpful, polite and understanding. I recall the names of 2 staff who were amazing and their names are Alma and Steven. The location of this place is perfect and would rate a 10/10 for location. They also have a tour every day where they teach you how to make "Sangria" and then take you to 3 local pubs(one free shot every pub) that you would enjoy. Furthermore, you can leave your luggage over here even if you have checked out of the hostel for free. Definately coming back to this exact same place if we ever plan to visit Madrid again.

My stay at the hat was nearly perfect! I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm, and the room was super nice. The in-room bathroom and shower were very clean and there were additional bathrooms and showers in the hallway. The rooftop bar was great and the lobby also had a lot of seating to hang out in. The front desk was kind and helpful. They do not provide towels, so be sure to bring your own or be prepared to rent one.

Stayed here April 2023. Arrived super early from overnight bus - the staffer on duty was amazing, let me have a shower, get breakfast and store my luggage so I could head out before checking in later. Nice common area, good breakfast. One of the better hostels out there for sure.

One of my favorite places to stay in Madrid! Excellent location, welcoming staff, and great amenities! Catered towards a young / mid-aged remote workers or party crowd. They host free Sangria night daily from 9-10pm and pub crawls. My only complaint is that I’ve been woken up several times in the middle of the night by people returning from partying. But otherwise my stay has been excellent!

  • 5/5 Rachel A. 5 months ago on Google
I loved this hostel. Was traveling with my friend and the staff was so nice. I dropped glass in the middle of the night and they came to clean it immediately. They also have several activities such as bar crawls for guests. Would recommend.

The Hat was fantastic! So clean, comfortable, fun, and great guests. One of the best upsides was it's location; it felt like I was in the heart of Madrid and could be anywhere in a few minutes. The breakfast was great. And best of all, the staff was amazing!! They were so hospitable and kind, and made my stay special.

This hostel was incredible. We got the 6 person private room. Comfy beds, clean room, shower etc. We needed up using the shared bathrooms and even those were in great shape. The Rooftop bar was affordable and made amazing drinks! Breakfast was so good and had a wide variety of options with a great price of 6€! Highly recommend and will be back when I visit Madrid again

I would not recommend this place for events on the rooftop bar. We did a reservation for more than 25 people and we were all cloistered in less than 22 square meters. The waiters were rude and forced us to not leave our "zone" (we could not even go to the bar for beers we had to wait for them to come, at some point they did not come).

Our stay at The Hat Madrid was a 5-star experience. Rooms, bathrooms, and premises were super clean and welcoming. Food and service were excellent. My friend and I had booked a 4-person room and were told that the hostel had run out of room and needed to separate us into two separate rooms for the first night of our stay. However, to compensate us for this inconvenience, we were given a clean, spacious private room for the second night, as well as free towels and locks, and beer on the rooftop. Highly recommend staying here for your trip to Madrid.

This place was awesome! Back in May 26-28, I stayed at the Hat with my friend. I just wanted to say that everything was very awesome! Especially, I wanted to point out Javi and María in reception who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was one of a kind. They helped us find the best local spots and were very kind as well as extremely responsive. Also, I wanted to point our Marce and Susana for their exceptional work as part of the cleaning staff. Overall, this stay exceeded our expectations, and I felt it was imperative to point out these four individuals in their work. Thank you! P.S. Rooftop bar was also accesible right in the hostel!

The hostel was very clean, the interior was very nice and having breakfast on the rooftop bar was an amazing start of the day! And they also serve very good coffee.

Nice hostel, nice staff, nice activities. Some points to note: We got a room with a bad bed (noise) and we got another room. Both rooms could have used some paint on the walls.

Great location, stylish and clean. The rooftop terrace is also great! Staff is very helpful. Really enjoyed my stay there. They recycle the garbage and are biomass powered. Loved that! Don't forget it's a hostel- so if you want a good night sleep, you'll need a private room and maybe earplugs. Definitely recommend!

Great place to stay, you are in the middle of the city center!! Everything is close, the tourist part and the metro. You can have breakfast for 4 euros in the morning and they have a buffet. You have a private bathroom and shower, and the option to share the room with only your gender (more expensive) or mix. The common areas where great to meet new people and have interesting conversations. One night I stay late talking and if I didn't have anything to do the next day I would go party!!

The best hostel to stay at period. Amazing, knowledgeable, and welcoming staff. Comfortable living and sleeping situation. All the hostels we stayed at later in our trip were let downs compared to The Hat Madrid. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a great hostel the location is fantastic located in the center of Madrid. Can get to places easily for example the Royal Palace was only 10-15 min walk away. The room I stayed in was good as well. it was quite spacious and the bed was comfortable. And the staff was friendly. One of the best hostels I have stayed in.

Stylish interior and buzzing rooftop could not make up for the dreadful rooms. Quite possibly the most uncomfortable and nosiest stay I’ve ever had. I cannot recommend this hostel in good conscience. Breakfast was also very underwhelming.

  • 4/5 MC N. 2 years ago on Google
Definitely a nice and cheap roof top bar in Madrid! The location is super nice, the food is classic and the drinks are also standard. So if you are looking for a decent place to watch the sunset you are definitely right at "The Hat Madrid"!

  • 5/5 Bernard L. 2 years ago on Google
Good hostel, super well located in the center next to la Plaza Mayor. They offer free sangria every night in the kitchen, which is a good way to make people socialize, and then you can choose to go on a pub crawl for 20€. The down side for me is that you cannot cook in the kitchen, as there is only microwaves and eating ustensiles (and fridge as well), so be aware of that. I’ve been there twice and I definitely recommend!

We really enjoyed the hostel! The staff was very nice, there was a good atmosphere, it is beautifully decorated, close to everything. Very tidy and I felt comfortable keeping the belongings in storage until I left. The toilets and showers were far from the room and we had to pass 4 doors to get to them. The bedroom has lockers (need to bring a lock) but there is no room for the big bag. Except it was great.

  • 5/5 Federico C. 2 years ago on Google
Great hostel!! The rooms are big and tidy, with big and clean bathroom and toilet. The common areas are great for meeting nice people and the staff is always kind, helpful and available to fix every problem. The location is perfect too! Right next to Plaza Mayor. I really recommend this hostel, I spent only 4 nights here but they were amazing. And the price is incredible too!

Had an amazing time at this hostel. The location was very centralized and near the metro. They also had free breakfast for patrons, which is very much appreciated while traveling. My bed was comfy and clean. They also had lockers to store my valuables. The rooftop was also very nice to frequent while not out sight seeing.

  • 3/5 Anna M. 1 year ago on Google
The staff is incredibly nice and helpful and organise some great events at night. The rooftop is also really nice even tho the drinks are a bit expensive (might have been nice to have a discount when you’re staying there since it’s open to anyone, even outside the hostel). Although, I put 3 stars for mainly 2 reasons: first, there is no locker to put your stuff in, I don’t know if you’re supposed to get one by yourself or not but I thought it was a shame. The second reason is that for one room of 6 people you get only one bathroom, and you don’t get towels as plenty of hostels do get you towels. Beside that, great people, location is great.

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The beds are comfy, the rooms are air conditioned, the staff are ridiculously accommodating and have great recommendations on what to do in Madrid. The atmosphere is fantastic. They host pub crawls and have a rooftop bar.

I’m giving two starts because of the poor services they offered. They make you feel like they are making you a favor, specially the morning receptionist and the guy who help to serve breakfast, HE IS THE WORST. I over heard how they talk about customers and they give you a look and a tone, plus when you ask for directions or any other they are very unfriendly. The two starts are because the only helpful person there was Silvia (shoutout to her 👏👏👏) very friendly, very engaging. The rest of the team is nasty. Also the rooms are fairly clean, they can do better. And pro tip, do not take the breakfast there. There are better places in the area to get a yummy breakfast. Location is great. Just that.

  • 3/5 Bibi Tiffanie C. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent customer service, good price and location and clean rooms. Affordable accommodations in a central location. Bit disappointed at the breakfast however for $5 euros it was convenient, if you can maybe have breakfast at a local spot in the neighborhood. It can get noisy, pack some ear plugs. The last night we were there unfortunately there were 87 school age children staying there and they were extremely loud and disruptive (I was under the impression that children were not allowed to stay there as per their website and no bookings of groups of 10 or more… maybe this is old info). Appreciated that they allow you to storage your luggage after checkout. Over all good experience.

Didn't sleep here, came for rooftop. Great hostess who received is downstairs, service on the rooftop wasn't great. Had the most sour tasting wine in my life, so stick to beer if you ask me. Great for a drink, not much more.

Incredible hostel in the best location. One of the best hostels I have been to in Europe- a must stay!! The hostel is adorable with great common spaces - especially the rooftop. The staff is extremely nice and helpful- I was so grateful for Gorka and Rocio's tips and super kind welcoming spirit. Hope you stay here and enjoy it as much as me. I look forward to staying here again.

This establishment is a hotel masquerading as a hostel, offering none of the expected social atmosphere. Rooms are ridiculously tiny (DO NOT TRUST THE PICTURES) and noisy, lacking proper amenities like a stove in the kitchen. Management's disregard for customer well-being is evident in allowing late check-ins, disrupting others' rest. In my case, guests were allowed to check in at 1am in a 4-bed dorm, despite the stated rule of 11 pm being the latest. AVOID AT ALL COSTS; it's outrageous and ludicrous.
