Upd.: The manager continues to ignore my emails. I still haven't received any explanation. Worst stay ever. Avoid this place. I was robbed because of the hostel staff. I arrived when the room hadn't prepared yet. So I asked a man at the reception if I could leave my backpack and come back later. He showed me the room in front of the reception desk where I can leave my luggage. I left my backpack in that room, but when I returned in the evening I found my backpack open, and all my things were in disarray. And when I asked a girl at the reception how this could happen, she answered that there is a luggage storage room in the hostel, and I shouldn’t have left my backpack there. I described the man who told me to leave my backpack in that room and she said that he doesn't work for the hostel, but he works in the same building. But he had access to the hostel's system, as he asked for my passport and checked my data in the system. After that incident I started getting scammers' messages and calls. I've tried to get an explanation from the manager, but it seems they really don't care about it at all. They refused that it could happen but also rejected to provide the camera recordings, so it means something. Another girl was also robbed in the next room. This is definitely not a safe place to stay. It was cold in the room, dirty showers and sinks, super unfriendly staff, very noisy, you have to pay extra for everything(towels, lockers, etc.) I have never had such a terrible experience.

Arrived after an overnight flight, completely exhausted, and asked for an early check in or alternative room. We were obviously happy to pay any additional cost. They had nothing to offer. They told us to stay in the TV room until our room became available in 5 hours. We fell asleep in the TV room and the staff came and woke us immediately, informing us that we couldn’t sleep there. We explained our fatigue and need for sleep and asked for release of our money so we could find somewhere else. They refused. Terrible customer service and the staff were just jerks about the whole situation. Avoid this place.

We feel terrible to be treated this way, hugely disappointed. It was the worst hostels I have never stayed. The girl in reception at nightshift is terrible and the check-in is a huge mess. We did the self-check in online, but we waited for more than an hour to do the check-in. The staff is super racist. They served other guests with good manner, but yelled at us for no reason and super impolite and impatient. When we were queuing up for check in, we were asked to wait in the room. They would called us when it was our turn. We stayed for 30mins in the room and asked them if we should wait in the room. They asked us to queue up again and went super mad at us. We were very upset and super disappointed. It’s a terrible experience.

Edit: Management sent a message back implying that we brought the bed bugs and there will be no refund. We only went to Madrid for one night and traveled from home, there’s no way we had brought them! This place had bedbugs!! The receptionist gave us tokens to wash our clothes so we spent all morning doing laundry. When I contacted management about a refund they stated “Since it is impossible to know in what condition travelers' luggage arrives, the hostel cannot be responsible for claims for this reason. Therefore, no refund or compensation will be made.” They basically blamed us and said we brought the bed bugs with us which is impossible since we arrived from home and hadn’t been traveling before! Won’t be staying here and and wouldn’t recommend it!

Don’t stay there! There were bugs in my room (#117) and in my bed - I got bites all over my body. When I told the receptionist and wrote an email with fotos attached, I did not receive any answer. I deeply doubt that they called a pest exterminator…

BED BUGS!!! DON'T GO HERE! Even after we told them they just didn't care!!! It was really disgusting. You can carry those you in lugage and bring them home. The whole room was contaminated. Most disgusting place ever.

I’ve never been to a hostel where they don’t allow you to keep your food, I was literally forced to throw away my food in the trash. At least provide a storage place if you don’t want to let me take any food into the room. Also the restaurant + terrace areas are closed most of the day, so anyone looking for a hotel to work or spend a lot of time in the hostel, it’s not the option for you. The rooms were clean and sufficient, but the hostel is very commercial

2nd floor air conditioning doesn't work and they don't know why and they don't even tell you that till you figure it out by night. In summers, it gets really hot. Customer service is a zero. Some of the bathroom locks don't work so anyone can just walk in on you. Lift takes forever to work. Location is good. Rooms are okay.

Paid 57 euros per night for a mediocre bunkbed... This hostel has no real common room and no kitchen so don't expect real hostel vibes. The showers were great and clean tho.

Its location is very good. However, there is no air conditioner at the rooms so the room was like hell. I could not sleep because of the hotness. Secondly, there is no kitchen and no fridge to keep your food, it is also a disadvantage. Lastly, the terrace is a bar and you need to buy something which is really expensive(water 4€, mojito 12€). Instead of staying here, you could find better hostels.

My friends and I stayed in a private room here about a year ago. Generally, our room was fine. Clean, a good bathroom, okay beds and even a small terrace. Nice. And a really good location too. BUT: the air conditioning was insanely cold. We had to be in hoodies in the room and it still was cold, even tho it was 40C outside. I went to the reception 1-2x per night, where the same rude guy usually ignored it. Thing is, the room is very small and air conditioning is maybe 20cm away from each of the upper beds. They apparently can’t control air conditioning for each room individually, only for the whole floor! And most rooms are bigger and sunnier. Our room was FREEZING cold. All of us kept having nose bleeds because the air in our room was just so cold and dry. There is a really nice guy at the reception too, but he wasn’t there at night. The last night though, he made sure the rude guy wouldn’t turn on air conditioning. It was nice. Our stay in the hostel could’ve been nice.

Great spot for a safe and cheap place to stay. Close to the metro, clean rooms and bathrooms. I felt safe at night and coming late at night too. Huge plus for the nice, helpful and handsome staff. 🤭

Good location, very clean. But you should tell people that you take out the garbage every day because it felt very invasive having someone in my room even though I didn't ask for it. The elevator had the door stuck and not a single sign saying so, we had to discover it by getting stuck there. The "asian" (I'm not sure she was, but she looked asian is the only description I can give) receptionist was extremely unpleasant multiple times.

This place has bedbugs!!! The staff was very accommodating and gave us free laundry tokens, but management blamed us for bringing the bedbugs in. In the email to management we were told the general “we follow all sanitation guidelines” jargon, which was followed up by, “it is impossible to know in what condition travelers' luggage arrives, the hostel cannot be responsible for claims for this reason.” We were effectively blamed for the bedbugs and were refused a refund on these grounds. They obviously do not take bedbugs seriously. Do NOT stay here.

Location was good but the water was never really hot and wifi connection was non existent, at least for our private room. Common room also pretty small for such a big hostel.

Very clean & nice place to stay. I was in a mixed dorm with 4 beds, en suite & even a sort of private balcony out a door into the central space in hotel. There was a nice table & 4 chairs out which was cool!! €23. The breakfast I had in photo filled the gap. Coffee, a cheese & ham toasted sandwich, choice of 3 fruit juices & choice of an orange or apple. Reasonable @ €4.50. Would recommend this hostel and it's rooms can be for 12, 8, 6, 4, 2 & 1 I believe. 👍🏻

Unfortunately my phone (which I use for work) was stolen from my room. Unlike other hostels, they do not provide locks and expect you to bring your own. Of course this was not disclosed until after I checked in. When I went to the front desk to explain the issue and ask if a phone was dropped off, my concerns were immediately dismissed, and they went back to staring at their phones.

Paid for one week, but I left after one night since I woke up with over 30 bed bug bites on my body. Thats not how you want to experience your vacation. They should invest more in health standards. To be fair, reception and breakfast stuff are nice and friendly. Common area facilities are good. Heavy traffic noise makes it difficult to sleep.

The location is ideal, rooms are impeccably clean, and the service is commendable for the cost. The only problem was the Bathroom, very limited cubicles for such hostel. The reception staff is exceptionally helpful, ensuring there's always someone ready to assist you with a warm and welcoming attitude.

It was a great experience. Very clean and comfortable hostel with nice views! they have a great rooftop and it has a perfect location. They have lockers inside the room.

The hotel is overpriced for the service offered and everything comes at an extra price: from towels, to breakfast to luggage custody after check out. I recommend checking other alternatives which include these basics.

Hello, I was surprised when I arrived that there is no kitchen at all and few common space : it is almost a hotel (and not a hoStel). There is only a micro wave, but you cannot cook anything, there is even no plate, cut, fork... For the rest, good location in Madrid. But very big hostel, few interactions between the travelers.

I was here for the Euroleague basketball quarter finals and enjoyed every moment. The place is in the very center, everything is within reach, the metro station is very close, clean, safe, the staff is more than friendly and always ready to help you with everything you need. Thank you for making my stay in Madrid amazing.Coming back for sure, just keep it that way.

One word…. BEDBUGS. My room (room 21) was absolutely INFESTED by bedbugs. I have over a hundred bedbug bites all over my body. I was supposed to stay 3 nights, but decided to cut my stay short when I woke up covered in bedbug bites. I immediately went down to reception where I was given laundry detergent and was told to just do my laundry and leave the rest of my stuff in the room because roomservice was going to clean my room and I could sleep there again tonight. That is NOT how a bedbug infestation works. I had to leave as my day was fully booked and I did not have time to deal with this. After a trip to the pharmacy, where I got steroid creme (that I payed for) I found out I am also allergic to bedbug bites, which aggravated the situation even more. When I came back to Safeaway to ask for a refund and to pick up my stuff to go to a hotel (that I also had to pay for) I was told they couldn’t do anything for me in terms of a refund and that I had to write to the manager. I wrote an email hoping for a response, (the receptionist told me that the manager was coming in the morning and that they would immediately deal with this) but I still have not received a response. I tried calling safeaway to handle the situation more swiftly, but nonone answers the phone. Overall a terrible experience and I still can not sleep from the hundreds of bedbug bites. Bathrooms are dirty too.

It is our second night here and while me and my partner were sleeping in the morning a guy from the staff (black haired) opened our door with a passepartout key and closed it right after I screamed. We met him in the corridor and asked him why he opened our door, telling him that it is not normal, and very aggressively he came very close to me (his face was inches from mine), as to confront and intimidate me, and said that it is actually normal (I am a woman). We complained to the reception and the guy told us that the behaviour of the other employee was not ok and that he would report it. We hope that some actions will be taken before we leave. I do not feel safe knowing that an aggressive guy enters in my room whenever he wants. It is a very serious matter for a hostel to not be able to assure the safety of its guests.

Great hostel! Staff is really helpful and warm. Shared dorms are comfy and some of them have great views to the city's nice colonial buildings. They also have a wonderful, chic rooftop bar. Make sure to try it! Lastly, they're located just a few blocks away from the Gran Via which is full of stores, restaurants, amenities! 100% recommended 👌🏻

We arrived to find someone sleeping in a bed we had booked. it took the staff an hour to figure out what happened and switch the bed, the lockers only take a specific kind of lock if you don’t have it you need too purchase one there. there is no fridge or kitchen! No non perishable food allowed in the rooms either. This is very inconvenient for travellers on a budget since you will have to eat out every meal and have no place to leave leftovers. I recommend this hostel for a one - two night stay only.

Our stay at the hostel was fine, however a few things made it so we wouldn’t return there. The charging port by the bed seemed to be working but actually emptied the battery over the night. The bathrooms were very dirty, and people in our room stayed out till 6am and made a lot of noise when they returned. In addition music was playing until very late at night. Finally, after we checked out we found out we have to pay 3 euros for each bag(!) in order to store them in the hostel until we have to take our train ride. This is the first place I’ve ever encountered this sort of policy and found it very greedy and inappropriate.

room #15, the door creaks non-stop, like I was at a Madonna concert, but I wanted to sleep). the bed has a 360° view, and 0 privacy, no matter where you turn, everyone is looking at you. Some of the people can't shut up in the shared bed room, a but stupid to be respectful.

Am writing this review on behalf of a friend who travelled to Madrid in July this year and stayed for a few days at Safestay (Hostelworld) - beware of this hostel as they are absolute thieves. They really know how to cheat customers. In an error, I made a reservation at Safestay through two different channels but for the same dates, same number of days and for the same person, so it was obviously a mistake but this place refused to give any reimbursement and they swallowed my extra payment with no shame!! So to all of you out there who would like to stay with Safestay, please ensure that you verify your booking multiple times before you actually confirm it.

So impressed with this hostel. In particular, Miriana, who was on front desk. So smiley, helpful and welcoming. It was Her that really made the stay so excellent. She was so brillaint, she even gave us great recomendations of where to go. Thanks to Her and the team, I would stay here again!

We stayed for a few nights in a private double room. Positives: - Rooms are overall nicely designed, minimalistic, has all basic things you need. - Our room’s trash bin was emptied daily by the cleaning service; - Central location; Negatives: - It could get very loud in the building - few times I could hear drunk travelers singing in the hallway late at night for a pretty long time. - Service team at the registration desk seem like not enjoying this job much? - No ventilation in rooms (we stayed there when it was +37 outside); - They have a rule about not eating inside the rooms, but they also don’t have any kitchen/cafeteria where people could actually cook and enjoy their meals. I think it’s a must if you don’t want travelers to eat inside their own rooms.

Felt very safe and taken care of at this hostel. The lady behind the breakfast counter (Grace?) was lovely and made me feel at home! The rooms were clean, spacious and had a great view. Thank you for having me!

I was robbed in my room, the locks were removed, and the staff did not do anything. Anybody is able to get into the Hostel so there is no any security control. More people has the same issue. I don't recommend the place to stay in Madrid. Unsatestay Madrid, It should be the name.

The people working there were cordial and funny. The beds were comfortable, and water pressure in showers was AMAZING. The only reason I don't give it a five star was because the bathrooms were not very clean. I don't know how often they are cleaned but oftentimes there were paper towel on the floor and the sinks felt a bit dirty. Besides that, I would recommend this hostel nonetheless.

Everything can be recommended. I shared a 4 bed female dorm ensuite with three completely foreign people and everybody was very considerate. Also All employees, especially Robert, are very very nice and always try to help you and fulfill your whole satisfaction. I had a very difficult situation happen and did need help getting a hold of the authorities in Spain the service here went above and beyond that you everyone for all your help with dealing with significant problem not in my home country. Robert helped me to get to a place where I could receive assistance from my home country by hailing a cab, and also listening to me. THANK you for helping me in a situation that could have been much more difficult. A good amount of stress is off my shoulders. Thanks SafeStay

Not the first time I’m staying, will choose again. Love the historic building, the elevator is a piece of art. Rooms are clean, spacious and with lovely balconies. Staff are really nice as well.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean and the building was nicely renovated. No kitchen. It can be a bit loud with the music, personally prefer something more calm and chilled rather than poppy/clubby. I felt the location was perfect for all my needs and close to the metro.

Had a great time here with my friends! The first night my friends and I got separated, however Robert at reception went out of his way and took care of it for us the next morning and totally made our trip! He was absolutely awesome and we are so grateful! Rooms were clean and the bathrooms were really nice!! Lots of mirrors and sinks with good lighting, perfect for getting ready together. Fun swings in the common areas too! Would definitely stay here again.

I would like to leave this comment to report and inform of an unacceptable conduct by the staff of this hostel towards an elderly person, who was not only expelled from the hostel without reason, but also had his things taken from his room without his permission, forcing him to sleep the last night on some stairs and taking away the key to access yo the accommodation and his rights as a guest. In addition they Lost a red bag with his medicines. The following day, I've arrived to have an explanation to this treatment. And the recepcionist chief not only lied to me with a slighty with an upper voice rudely voice,But also delivering a very low behavior towards the clients. Before Booking this hostel,I would recommend the reader to search others hostels nearby,If you want to enjoy your stay.

First night at the Safestay Hostel and we were very well welcomed by the receptionist Robert, who explained us everything, was really friendly and helpful! Thank you for the kindness and patience since we don’t speak Spanish. Everything there looks really nice and modern. It’s also in a good location, so no problem taking bus or metro.

I stayed in this hostel for two nights and I enjoyed it a lot. I was in a 12 dorm room and it was super spacious. The people were nice and yhe ckeck in and check out went smooth. I enjoyed the roof terrace a lot. It is awesome for chilling, having sangria and enjoying the view. They even had heaters, but for me it was fine sitting with a jacket and reading my book.

It's the best experience I've ever had in a hostel. The receptionists, especially Gonzalo y Roberto, are very professional and attentive, making your stay much more pleasant and always helping you whit everything you need. The cleanliness of the facilities it is perfect and the prices are very competitive. If I return to Madrid, I will choose SafeStay for sure.

+ : good location with affordable price, they have discount on their site; room are clean and comfortable with air conditioners; the public like bathroom and toilette are clean, most staff are helpful and always with smile - : there is no kitchen and refrigerator, only a microwave; no hand washing place and the wash and dry service need to pay 10 euros; my room on the 3 floors is close to the road and can be very aloud during the night, so make sure that u prepared a earplug.

There's much to like about this hostel; rooms are clean and modern, the location is great and staff is friendly. Also, they upgraded my booking in a 12-bed room to a 6-bed room free of charge. However, what really ruined the experience for me is the lack of foodprep/storage facilities. I can live without a kitchen but the fact they don't have a fridge available as well made my stay expensive and burdensome because I had to buy food every single day (luckily there is a supermarket next door!)

I had a reservation for one night. I went to the hotel after a 15 hours layover. In the system there was a mistake because I didn’t reserve a bed in the girls room. I asked for help because I didn’t have another place to go and didn’t have money. The girl on the reception told me that that wasn’t her problem and maybe I made that reservation on purpose. I didn’t want any problem and I was tired, I asked a refund. But she told me that is not possible. Now after finding a place I’m staying truly safe. If u wanna verify the story my ig is @kevdsg

The rooms and showers are ok, the bar is amazing, and the profesional team correct (polite. That's it. Except the lady who does the breakfasts who was a true sunshine!) Probably won't be back.

Clean, modern, safe (accommodation area and rooms accessible by key only; lockers available); warm (it was chilly outside and heat was on most of the time I was in the room), individual facilities (toilets and showers are individual, with locking doors). Quiet - no noise from the street and guests actually follow the rules of a shared space. Easily accessible for the ones arriving from the airport (train to Recoletos station, then 10 min by foot). Close to central area.

I made a reservation through booking. I choosed a bedroom with 2 bunk beds. In the confirmation description the number of beds was not available. I arrived, get an 4 bunk beds room for the price of 2 bunk beds room. They couldn't help because booking is the problem not them... Not a helpful staff... They couldn't give me what I paid for or a better option. I made dozen reservation through booking, never and nothing was a problem before. Because I'm a young girl they didn't think I will complain, and didn't take me seriously. Disgusting.

Stay was fine, at the end of my trip my roommates and I go to the bathroom and within 5 minutes a random man runs into our room and steals our phones. Front desk did absolutely nothing to help. They have cameras and the front desk are supposed to track who comes in. However, the lady could was incoherent.
