Former house of the impressionist painter, now transformed into a museum. It is a pleasant visit where you can see some of the original paints of Sorrolla, sculptures, furniture and potter present in the house. All these objects are exhibited within 6-8 rooms and gardens with information available to read in every room. Certainly, it is worth the visit

I have wanted to visit this museum for ages, have several books of his work and have been slightly obsessed with seeing it. This museum is really worth a visit. The gardens are stunning and it is a nice collection of his work, the ability to see his studios and get an idea of the man behind the work. Highly recommend this - only negative is that the staff are the usual unfriendly sort that seem to prevail in museums. I smiled at one person and she cut me dead with a death stare, not even a muscle in her face moved, just ice cold. But because it is so wonderful, I will still give 5 stars.

Such a lovely atmosphere! I recognized Sorolla's work but was not familiar enough with him to put this museum at the top of my list. It's such a beautiful house and garden and the feeling there is peaceful and quiet--despite my being chastised by the docent for accidentally bumping into a chair! I listened to the audio tour and still found the laminated cards helpful. The upstairs was closed today. It was a refreshing break after the the Prado and Reina Sofia, especially since it was very inexpensive and I could take all the pics I wanted.

Such a charming museum. Small, which is a relief after visiting the major ones, and full of Sorolla’s light and warm paintings. After the visit one can relax in the beautiful garden. A must see.

The perfect art museum for "non art people"! Some of Madrid's wonderful art museums were just a little too much for us but this was a short visit, happened to be free when we went, and absolutely gorgeous. We found it helps to have all of the artist's works displayed in his own home because it lends context in a way that kept our interest throughout. 10/10 would recommend! Also, don't miss the gift shop–lots of thoughtful items in there.

A beautiful and elegant place. I am not knowledgeable about art/Sorolla but I still had a lot of fun here. I especially love the garden.

I visited this place tuesday, morning and the queue was quite long. It took quite a long time to wait for this place to open in the morning, because I came at the time the museum had just opened. Tickets can be bought online, but you can also buy them on the spot for 3 euros. When you first enter you will be amazed by the beautiful garden. chairs, fountains, beautiful flowers and statues, as well as ceramic ornaments on the stairs and seats. the paintings displayed are very beautiful. Sorolla paints in an impressionism style, the object being painted is a human figure against a sea background, vibrant colors depicting the bright beach sun. Sorolla often paints the figures he loves, his wife and children. As well as the beach atmosphere that reminds him of his childhood. His paintings are large in size, painted in oil paint on canvas. I was amazed by the brushes, palettes and paints that are still stored nicely in this museum. Very beautiful house, the art works that are displayed are so enchanting. lingering here is a pleasure, while looking at the paintings as if we were transported to the era where Sorolla still lived there. This place is not so big, and unfortunitely it is not a wheelchair user friendly. Descriptions of works are written in Spanish and English. If you want to hear more clearly about the history of Sorolla's artwork, audio aids are also available which can be rented in the ticket booking area. In this place there are also sales of printing souvenirs by Sorolla in various items.

You could call this museum a hidden gem as well, as it is not located near the major museums like the Prado, Reine Sofia, or the Thyssen Museum. The entrance fee is only 3€ and for the older ones like us, it is free. And inside it is simply beautiful I came there because my partner wished to visit it and it was absolutely worth it! Just take a look at the pictures.

A hidden gem! There are laminated guides in the first few rooms that explain the context and style of each painting, which was so helpful. His Andalusian style home is absolutely stunning, I’m amazed at how beautifully it has been preserved and maintained! I learned so much about the life and work of Sorolla. Definitely recommend taking time to sit in the gardens and enjoy the sounds of fountains and singing birds.

Interesting house-style museum of Sorolla the famous Spanish painter. The visit will allow you to see the extensive collection of Sorolla's paintings and to know better about Sorolla's personal life. The museum is very well cared. It's free for students 18-25 y.o.

This place is absolutely perfect. I feel like I've been invited to Soroya's house. Here you can see beautiful and charming gardens and overwhelming masterpieces. I saw Soroya's work for the first time. I fell in love with Soroya's painting at first sight. I could see how affectionately he painted his family and nature. A warm, beautiful picture.

Joaquín Sorolla’s house (now museum) is a hidden gem. Loved the pomegranates growing with lemons in the garden, and his art of course. Note: if you’re a senior citizen it’s free, but you can’t buy tickets online. Make sure to take your ID to the ticket desk, no problem and staff are great.

This museum is Sorolla’s former family home. It is peaceful, full of light and creative energy. Sorolla’s love for light, water and his family radiate throughout the museum. The garden is a hidden oasis in the middle of the city. Free entry. English audio guide was helpful and available for a small fee

This is a hidden gem among Madrid's museums. Absolutely worth to visit. Well organized. There are plastic information sheets in the rooms in 4-5 languages, with pictures and numbering, so you can read everything about the painter's life, family and household items. If you like impressionist pictures, it's a must-see!

Really sweet little museum. The garden that you enter through is so gorgeous and so are all of the paintings that you see. I would recommend getting an audioguide as there is limited written information when you get into the museum. Tickets are super reasonable (3€) and worth it for the beautiful art! I wouldn't expect to be here for longer than 45 minutes/an hour but it's definitely worth taking a trip out to see it.

One of the those surprise places where you look at a painting and think I: I’ve seen that somewhere before Remarkable that it is very much the family and artist’s space combined. I went twice. Once to wander around and then, second time, for the audio tour The audio tour is not widely advertised. Get it in the gift shop to the left BEFORE entering the house. Suggestion: take your own wired earbuds / headphones This is also one of the places I labelled “another of Madrid’s secret gardens.” You can access the garden without a ticket. And worth some sitting time

Beautiful house and studio of the artist most famous for his fantastic use of light in his beach paintings. In particular do not miss his wonderful garden that also features in his paintings.

Beautiful House / Museum from Sorolla and his family. The paintings, the architecture, the jarden and everything on it was marvelous to visit. Been a free ticket Museum was surprisingly well kept. The audioguide has a cost of 2.50 euros but it is 100% worth it, so you can understand better everything on each room. Definitely going back!

Cozy, beautiful natural light through the windows. If you enjoy Luminism or Neo Impressionm, Sorrolla is a must visit master.

If you only have a couple of hours and want to get inspired by marvellous paintings dating back to the turn of the century, Museo Sorolla is your choice. Joaquín Sorolla is famous for his unique portraits and dazzling beach scenes. His way of masterfully capturing the radiant light of the Mediterranean earned him the title of Spanish Master of Light. The exhibition of some of his greatest works is set in a grand villa that he called his family home from 1911 to 1923. The shady garden, where you often find painters doing their studies, is perfect for idling and resting.

Beautiful place with lots of nice paintings or Sorolla. The garden in the entrance is really beautiful. Just bring your book or friends and relax in the quiet garden.

  • 5/5 Thomas W. 8 months ago on Google
An incredible museum in the former home of Sorolla. The garden is available to visit as well. To respect the structure of the home and have as little impact as possible, the ticket office is in the basement through the garden. The signs to the ticket office are not clear and I had to ask. Throughout there are plaques describing the home when Sorolla and his family lived there.

This artist captures the feelings of the individuals in the paintings. You can actually understand what the subjects are thinking by just looking at their expressions. The home and grounds are well maintained.

One of the best museum in Madrid. See the working office of Sorolla is amazing

It's quite small but it's a really important Spanish artist. Really good paintings and it's nice to live it inside his own house.

If you like museum. If you also like Art. Then the museum of the painter Sorolla is a must. It is small but amazingly beautiful.

  • 5/5 Sachelle D. 2 years ago on Google
My favorite painter so I’m biased. But it’s so special to be in his house and studio and see a wide range of his work. I don’t think there are too many other experiences like this in the world where you can experience a masters life from the past so intimately. The gardens are beautiful and the staff that work there are also super nice.

Went here for killing the time before my train departure, ended up it was such a lovely visit! Would highly recommend anyone visiting Madrid to check up this Sorolla's old house (now a museum) with such a beautiful garden. The museum exhibits many of his paintings, some artwork of his daughter's, and real furnitures and collections of his house. Entrance ticket is only at EUR 3, the museum shop is also pretty affordable.

  • 5/5 Jeremy B. 4 months ago on Google
If you're not really a museum person challenge yourself with a half hour visit to this compact and enchanting museum cum dream garden cum personal urban oasis and see if you don't come away changed and perhaps deeply moved. Perhaps the strongest of Madrid's great art museums, and certainly so on the basis of price, concentration of compelling pieces, and work by this early-modern master.

  • 5/5 DORINDA S. 4 months ago on Google
This is a beautiful exhibition of not only Sorolla’s art work, but also, his beautiful home that he shared with his family. This is a great exhibit for that feels overwhelmed in large museums.

Superb exhibition of Sorolla paintings which capture the lifestyles of early 20th century Spain and provide insights into the life of the artist and his family. Beautiful house and garden are a fitting context for a wonderful collection of pictures and other artefacts

Nice, small museum. Free entrance. Have to register in the website to get free tickets.

  • 5/5 Krist M. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing collection. Lighting and display is not great for close-up view since there is a lot of glare when you try to study a piece from up-close. It was impossible to analyze any of Sorolla's masterfully painted faces since they are always placed too high and obscured by the glare. Make sure to arrive early and avoid the line since covid restrictions are causing limited capacity.

  • 5/5 Kevin K. 4 months ago on Google
I really enjoyed this museum. It is not too big but in a way you can appreciate it more on a personal level of Sorolla's journey. I did not realize before coming that it was also the artist's house. I loved the portraits of the family members and found thr paintings of the ocean scenes moving.

A beautiful small museum, it shows through the life of the artist through his paintings and trips. Loved the demonstration of the art and the timeline while walking around the house. The ticket prices are very affordable. It’s a short museum tour, worth the time.

Beautiful, small, approachable museum near Castellana Avenue in Madrid. This was also the home of Valencian painter Joaquin Sorolla (1863-1923). Lovingly and accurately restored, it houses many of own his paintings, but also the home furnishings, paintings of his children, and his studio with brushes and canvases in the open, giving you the feeling that he had just left for a moment. There is also a Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664) painting and a lithography of a Velasquez portrait of Pope Innocent X (Sorolla, was a fan of the paintings of Velasquez and bought the lithography in one of his travels in Rome). Sorolla was a prolific painter and loved to travel the southeast beaches of Spain. Many of his paintings showcase people and children bathing in sandy, ocean settings. He was a master of light, reflection and luminosity.

Breathtaking! If. You're a fan of impressionism, luminism you'll love it. Must visit while in Madrid. And the house is just beautiful, neat and well kept.

Such a nice little museum. The artist studio really is impressive and unexpected. Really cheap to visit also. Don’t miss it while in Madrid

  • 5/5 John C. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best museums I have EVER visited. First of all it is in his home, turned museum. The furniture and items are mostly his. Many of the rooms are staged exactly as it was when Sorolla and his family lived there. His art is displayed in a very appealing way. Easy to view and enjoy. EACH piece is described in an interesting and informative way. I like his artwork so I am biased, but his works are really interesting. He painted his personal life, family and friends, in a completely different style than his other works. If you visit Madrid don't miss this museum.

  • 5/5 Rene E. 2 years ago on Google
The former house of my favourite painter Joaquin Sorolla, converted in a museum, conserving it's essence. Besides the possibility to see some of his most famous paintings it gives the visitor a fantastic impression of how Sorolla lived. My favourite place is the garden.

This is a really cool place to stop by. Currently a lot of it was closed which is why I gave it 4 stars but the art is definitely something worth seeing. They have a very large collection of his art work here

Following a recommendation from local friends, my partner and I visited the Sorolla Museum. Truly beautiful experience. As an architect, I truly appreciated the juxtaposition of space to art. I would definitely recommend.

As a student the entrance was free with proof of my student ID. This museum is right on the main street and is absolutely worth a 30 min viewing! It is amazing to see all of the artists work and also the layout of the house. This museum is a must see!

  • 5/5 Marius D. 1 year ago on Google
Great corner of tranquility just off a busy street. This was the artist's home, and features a large garden (with benches), patio and two structures housing the artist's paintings and sculptures. It only costs €3 and it's worth it even just to go see the garden. The museum tells the artist's story very well, and lines up the art to match Sorolla's three main themes.

  • 4/5 David G. 2 years ago on Google
Quite a special museum because it was also the house of the artist. I’m not very fond of museums because I usually get tired & overwhelmed, but the size of the Sorolla museum is about the right size. Apart from Sorolla’s paintings, being able to see this incredible house was a very nice experience.

  • 5/5 Patricia M. 2 years ago on Google
Although busy as it happened to be free the day we went we were blown away by the quality of the paintings and the intimacy of the artist s home and studio. The gardens too, although small, were charming. A very pleasant way to spend an hour or so.

  • 4/5 Michael A. 1 year ago on Google
This is a nice little museum that is a great break from the big museums. I knew nothing about this artist, and learned a lot visiting his former house and now display of his paintings. Beautiful grounds.

  • 5/5 Diane D. 2 years ago on Google
Most of the places in Madrid are overdone due to some hoarding illnesses by the fruits of the Spanish conquest in the new world. This place seems to reach a perfect balance between beauty and opulence. It posseses enough things so it feels airy but still feels opulent. I can feel the richness in the old inhabitants spirit. It has light touches of Alhambra or the Andalusian culture. So, this may suggest the owner's sophisticated background.

  • 5/5 Elina J. 1 year ago on Google
We love the light is Sorolla's paintings: look at it and you are there on the beach too! And in the garden with beautiful red flowers. Seeing his family photos and the marvelous statues makes their family home alive! I like to see how he has used colour and large strokes of paint. Great painter!!

  • 4/5 Ron M. 2 years ago on Google
A small museum in the family home of Sorolla. The house is beautiful, as are the gardens. The house is full top to bottom with Sorolla's works and much of the original furniture. The second floor is a traditional exhibition space.

  • 5/5 Ben N. 11 months ago on Google
Wow it's a very special and short museum that have a special cultural things. The entry is very chip (3 euros per person). Not need to schedule entry or buy online tiquets, it's OK to just go there

  • 5/5 Cristina H. 9 months ago on Google
It used to be the house of the artist and his family, it's absolutely beautiful, with an Andalusian style garden and patio. They kept the original furniture. The exhibition of the paintings is on two levels and it covers the portraits of the family members and the famous paintings of the beach. It's well connected by public transport

  • 5/5 Panos M. 9 months ago on Google
It is a must-see in Madrid. The famous painter Sorolla loved so much to paint his family members as well as himself and various seaside scenes while on summer holiday in Sevilla. It fits perfectly as we visit his own house and his perfectly trimmed garden. On his paintings you can feel the order and relaxation of his "models". The various rooms and salas of the house are full of ornamental objects and works of art. After he passed his wife wished to keep him alive by opening their house to the public visiting. The garden per se attracts the lenses of hundreds of photos daily. Worth a visit. It costs per ticket only 3€. You can beat the crowds by visiting in the morning. You would like to see more Sorolla? Then head to the Royal Palace of Madrid where more great works of him are exposed at this time. You need to pay an extra ticket to get inside.

  • 5/5 Christine D. 9 months ago on Google
This is a gorgeous body of work in a beautiful home. A bit outside the city center, it is worth the expense of a cab. There are no barriers between the art and viewers, so it is an intimate experience. I am so glad I saw a Sorolla piece exhibited in the Prado museum. It prompted me to visit this museum to see more.

  • 5/5 Sakda S. 8 months ago on Google
It is a very worthy museum of Art that recommended to visit. It is not only a great painter and his amazing paintings, but also this is house where he used to live it with his own family.
