It always takes my breath away. I love to go in and find my favourite paintings even if I have only got 45 minutes! The joy that this treasured building is free to enter makes it possible to do this - and makes me so proud. I used to go straight for the museums…. Till the first time I went in! I was stunned by the depth of Turner’s paintings and the sheer size of some….. and the way they glow. Pictures cannot do it justice. Always try and make time for the gift shop. Look up at the ceilings…. Look down at the floors. Magnificent.

From the captivating Renaissance masterpieces to the vibrant Impressionist paintings, every corner of the gallery is filled with beauty and inspiration. Wonderful and mostly free gallery that’s open until 21:00 on some nights, which is amazing as the art world usually shuts around 17:00! Huge space so you can easily spend hours here but there are many sofas and comfortable areas to relax. A real gem amongst the major galleries of London and outs the NPG to shame. Get there early or book a ticket in advance to skip the queue, which isn’t usually too long tho.

Absolutely worth it! The building itself is amazing with a stunning interior design. If you are an art enthusiast, then the art work here is a must! Great collection of paintings from the best art pieces throughout the centuries. Highly recommended. As for always British museums, this one is also free.

I love the way the National Gallery have made visits easier by proposing three different routes - the A, B or C. This makes a visit there more manageable. In the past, I have been somewhat overwhelmed by the vastness of the collections. The artworks were beautifully displayed but noisy schoolchildren fooling around and amateur artists plonked right in front of some paintings blocking your frontal view tended to mar slightly the wonderful experience. On the whole, though, it was a wonderful experience.

This has been the best art gallery I've ever seen. The collection of works is astonishing. Loads of famous and influencial artists. We spent several hours here seeing each piece. Definitely one of our favorite places in London.

The national gallery is such a beautiful building and can be visited for free. It is completely accessible with lifts for anyone who needs it, including prams. There is air conditioning so it is a nice place to go to get out of the heats. Some exhibits can cost money to visit and you should check before you go in case you would like to pay to see something extra.

A stunning gallery with an unparalleled collection of art from around the world covering a vast range of styles and movements. The galleries themselves are exquisite and perfectly present the artwork on display. The gallery is like a labyrinth, but you'll be happy to lose yourself within it for a few hours. All this and it's free to visit, what more could you ask for?

The fact this museum is free brings me so much happiness. We LOVE IT!!! what an incredible gift to London to enjoy. We have been many times and we still haven’t gotten to it all. Thank you for keeping art history alive and well and housed so beautifully.

I really can't describe how this Gallery is so important to our heritage. This has been something we both wanted to visit in a long time. Amazing paintings but to many to name. Every painting is unique in its own way. You can spend hours in here. Nice restaurant and coffee shop. This Gallery is spotless.

We reserved these tickets online during our layover, and they were Free, requiring only advance booking. Exploring the plethora of exquisite paintings and artworks was a delightful experience. Although art isn't my particular passion, I found it enjoyable. The gallery is conveniently situated in the downtown area, near Westminster station and other notable landmarks. If you happen to be in London without any prior engagements, I highly recommend visiting this cultural gem.

It was great place. Clean. Beautiful. There were lots of people in there, as aspected. The down side for me was the fact that there was no guide. I know there are tabs on the wall to explain some of the paintings, however, there were some things that had no explanation and there was no one to guide us. Overall, it’s a good place to hangout for the weekend.

Thoughts: the gallery entry is free of charge, the building architecture and interior design is amazing, you can get tour guide to explain major paintings and the story behind them. If you are tight on time or not interested in paintings, this gallery can be skipped. Time: around 2 hours Children: although children are allowed to enter, I believe that it is not suitable to anyone less than 18 years old as they will be bored since it only presents paintings and nothing else.

I can't emphasize enough how mesmerizing the national gallery is. Easily needs 4 hours. There are so many breathtaking pieces of art that you would stop and look for minutes without a blink of an eye. Please donate to the gallery. The staff is v welcoming, friendly, and helpful to everyone.

Super place for a family outing! The large number of exhibits combined with their diversity will provide hours of sightseeing. We spent more than 3h and had to move quickly. The opportunity to see the greatest works of painting up close makes this a must-see place while in London.

It is a beautiful place full of precious pieces of art. And best of all, it’s free. It is very worthwhile for you to book a shift, or just over 4 hours to be able to enjoy everything that the National Gallery has to offer. Don’t pass quickly, but admire each painting, every story and every room, because yes, the building is a masterpiece apart.

I mean, you kind of know what you're getting into when it comes to London's great collection of art. You'll find art from each period over the last 500 years, names you'll recognize both big and small. Plan to spend at least an hour, and try to avoid a busy time if you can as it does get crowded. If you are going during a busy period, then definitely buy tickets in advance.

You can only see a snippet of the national gallery in one visit but don't let that put you off! I think it's helpful to have an era of series off artists that you want to look at otherwise it can be overwhelming. Don't necessarily just search out the most famous paintings, there are so many lesser known gems (and the rooms aren't do full!). Friendly staff although not all particularly knowledgeable about art I have to say! Tempting and expensive shop is rather dangerous! Need to keep coming back to see different sections, could do this for years.

Amazing and incredible experience in the general exhibition. Spent more than 6 hours and fascinated me. The amount of pieces and the quality of em. Great difference in the benches that you can find here, in comparison with the TATE or the British Museum, in every room you will be able to find a bench so that you can spend as much time as you want on each room. Is friendly for people of all ages. A must in London for sure.

I had a great time exploring the National Gallery in London. The variety of artists and their works on display is truly impressive. Each artwork has its own story, and I found myself getting completely absorbed, feeling inspired by the creativity and history around me. I easily spent an hour just wandering, looking at the paintings, and reading about them. There's so much to see that I could have spent even longer there. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just looking for a culturally enriching experience, the National Gallery is definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is great for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in art and get a glimpse of different eras and styles. Highly recommended for a fulfilling and inspiring visit!

For trip through art history, there are few places with such a wealth of works to see. My favourite galleries are the Impressionists and what a treat to sit and look at beautiful works of Renoir or Cezanne, and most other famous artists. There are many benches to sit and view, or just walk past these amazing works.

First time here and I cannot say I was blown away by its pieces of art. As a matter of fact, I liked the building very much. It's big enough and spotless clean. The staff are very friendly. There are certain pieces that must be admired but not too many. I think this is the perfect museum for someone who isn't into museums and needs more time admire and observe. Otherwise, not really planning to return any time soon.

(Translated by Google) One of the essentials if you visit London. With the entrance, which as you know is free, they give you a small map with the route of the most popular paintings. It helps if you are short on time. Another good idea is to go on Friday, which is also open in the afternoon, and in my opinion after eating it is much calmer. My favorite is Velázquez. Maybe because the earth always pulls?

Unfortunately only a short vacation, so that you don't manage all the sights ..... Bus trip through the city, Madame Tussaud, Big Ben and the Tower Bridge should definitely be on the program. Top Not to give the impression that I was in London in February 2021. Of course, it's nothing like it. I was in London in 2015 and have the Recession just finished (Original) London im Februar....etwas kühler, aber genauso imposant wie in den wärmeren Jahreszeiten. Eine Stadt die seinesgleichen sucht. Absolutely beautiful. Art is majestic! The history and age of the art their is outstanding. So much variety and different artistic styles. As someone who isn't too informed in the art world, I thoroughly enjoyed every second. Rubens, Di Vinci, Michaelangelo to name some. Children might find it a little boring, unless they have a keen like for art. I would love to visit again when I'm in London to see new exhibitions.

First time here and it wasn’t even a planned visit! Walking through the routes is almost like walking through the timeline of paint as a religious medium and slowly evolves into an artform. The outdoor activity was amazing too where the public gets to draw their favourite piece from the gallery or just anything. It makes for a fun family activity just next to Trafalgar Square.

Beautiful art in a beautiful setting. However, there are not enough maps of the museum and we got confused in regard to which way to go so I am not sure we covered everything. It would really help to provide some paper maps on to be able to download a map of the museum. Nice coffee shop, although really pricey...

One of the best art museums located in the heart of London at the famous Trafalgar square. You have to book tickets in advance online, however, entry is totally free and in case of non rush hours they do not even check your tickets which mean you don't have to stand in queue as well. In addition to the portraits and the paintings the architecture of the gallery from the inside is really wonderful. Recommended for a long visit for art lovers but even if you are not an art lover - still recommended for a quick visit if you're in Trafalgar Square.

This art museum is beautiful, the building and the paintings are great. The gallery is free to visit! They could easily charge £1 or £2 per person entrance fee for maintaining this property and it’s collections. Anyway, thanks to the British government for being so generous! I would surly recommend this place for any art lovers.

What is there to complain about? Nothing. It's free to enter, also for tourists. The gallery is huge, with a massive collection of art, mostly of the historic type, not modern. Takes hours if you are going to study everything. The building itself is also great, and the halls feel majestic and worthy of the art it stores. Would recommend for everyone in London!

The National Gallery is an amazing place! It's right at Trafalgar Square and definitely worth visiting, just like the Square itself. Both spots are really great to see! The National Gallery started in 1824 and has lots of old and amazing art. It's a really cool place to visit because you can see famous paintings from many different times. It's also easy for people in wheelchairs to go around and see everything, so everyone can enjoy the art there.

My second visit to the National Gallery is amazing! ☺️ I saw pupils and teacher having art history lessons, heard a beautiful recital, and enjoyed the refreshing smell of the fountain , with the water sparks crystally shining under the sun☀♥ I also secretly joined two guided tours and heard interesting historical stories of the artworks. How wonderful. 😉

The National Gallery is an art museum in Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, in Central London. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900. The Gallery is an exempt charity, and a non-departmental public body of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Its collection belongs to the government on behalf of the British public, and entry to the main collection is free of charge. In 2019, it was ranked seventh in the world on the List of most visited art museums. Unlike comparable museums in continental Europe, the National Gallery was not formed by nationalising an existing royal or princely art collection. It came into being when the British government bought 38 paintings from the heirs of John Julius Angerstein in 1824. After that initial purchase the Gallery was shaped mainly by its early directors, especially Sir Charles Lock Eastlake, and by private donations, which now account for two-thirds of the collection. The collection is smaller than many European national galleries, but encyclopaedic in scope; most major developments in Western painting "from Giotto to Cézanne" are represented with important works. It used to be claimed that this was one of the few national galleries that had all its works on permanent exhibition, but this is no longer the case. The present building, the third to house the National Gallery, was designed by William Wilkins from 1832 to 1838. Only the facade onto Trafalgar Square remains essentially unchanged from this time, as the building has been expanded piecemeal throughout its history. Wilkins's building was often criticised for the perceived weaknesses of its design and for its lack of space; the latter problem led to the establishment of the Tate Gallery for British art in 1897. The Sainsbury Wing, a 1991 extension to the west by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, is a significant example of Postmodernist architecture in Britain. The current Director of the National Gallery is Gabriele Finaldi. Excerpt from Wikipedia

So this gallery is quite interesting, and unique as well. There is a lot of all kinds of famous painters and artists paintings to see such as: Leonardo da vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Johannes Vermeer, Jan Van Eyck. It have a huge paintings collection with 2300 pieces of it! So yeah if you a fan art galleries i could recommend it! My verdict is: 8/10 (great)

The building itself is worthy of a visit, the pillars, high ceilings, and wallpapers are impressive. The impressionist room is a star-studded room. It really does have a shock factor. The toilet facilities are great and I highly recommend booking a free ticket online before arrival.

Incredible experience at national gallery!! Great paintings, really well maintained galleries, very clean and a lot of benches to rest and enjoy the paintings further. I love how smooth it was to enter the gallery with the booked times and very very covid safe with hand sanitisers everywhere.

We’ve had the most wonderful experience at the National Gallery this weekend. The building is amazing, but most of all the personal touch of Alan, who told us everything about the paintings and their history! Alan should be a guide at the museum, his knowledge is amazing and his way of telling about the paintings is remarkable. Thank you for making our day and visit unforgetable! 😊

A great place to visit especially for those who is into art. The national gallery is such a beautiful building and can be visited for free. It is completely accessible with lifts for anyone who needs it, including prams. Some exhibits can cost money to visit and you should check before you go in case you would like to pay to see something extra.

Tickets are free to enter the museum so I would definitely recommend booking in advance- I am so glad we did because the walk-in queue was very long and seemed to move slowly! There was a calm and quiet ambience in the gallery and plenty of amazing paintings to fill you with awe. The gallery is clean. There are toilets down on the lower level as well as a cafe with a reasonable amount of seating. Definitely worth a visit.

What a treat!! A wonderful collection. This was a great opportunity to see amazing works for free. I love this concept. We're students and often skip museums because of the cost. There was a reasonable amount of people and we didn't experience long lines.

I visited with my son on a Saturday, if you prebook your tickets you can use the smaller entrance a bit further down rather than joining the long main queue. The gallery is amazing, my son has no interest in art but even he enjoyed looking at the paintings, especially the ones he'd learnt about in school. Seeing the paintings gave me a chill as they were the 'real thing' not just a photo in a book. There was an amazing member of staff in room 34...he was a fountain of information, apart from answering our original question of where is room 9, he told us what to look out for on the way there and gave us some really interesting facts. If you take children there is an interactive app called Keeper of the paintings which my son loved, just start it when you arrive not when you are at the opposite end of the building as we did.

A very tranquil space to wander and appreciate the talents of those before us. Free entry but definitely worth making a contribution so that it is here for people after us. Take your children to see these famous masters to give them a new appreciation when then they see the art online.

Still a must go in the UK. Do book in advance, free entry, but quite essential. Go 15 mins before booking time to queue up. Mask not required inside. The national gallery provides lots of hand sanitizer and toilets are well equipped to handle. Currently it's fairly empty inside so you will have quite a privacy and silence you always want in a museum. Go see it now!

Just visited Titian exhibition - amazing paintings albeit very few of them -but the organisation is appalling which ruins the whole experience - clear example of a case when stricter rules just make it worse not safer nor more efficient. Tickets checked 3 times, everyone wears masks but the automatic door doesn’t work - so everyone touches the same handle, for some reason after presenting the tickets I was given a tiny piece of paper that I needed to handle to someone throughout the visit, no audio guide (and no app to download info) so people still crowd next to each other to read info next to each painting (so much for social distancing). To contrast - two weeks ago I was in Uffizi gallery - and that was really well organised and very safe.

Unfortunately with Covid they could have been more careful to protect us. Booking on line was perfect arriving was fine too but suddenly rooms were filling up more people coming in more and more showing up. People were taking picture of themselves removing their mask for a very long time. Big down side they were removing their mask. Security personal did not do their job at all to protect us they should have been telling people to keep their mask on cover their nose not kissing keeping their distance we had to tell people put your mask on, back off, 2 meters, not pleasant to play the police at all. The number of people booking in one time slot was way too high. We needed to run for the last part scared to catch Covid too msny people. It ruin the all idea of going there thinking they wont be a crowd in every room. .I have to mention the new paintings addition are very nice. Wait after Covid.

This important National Gallery of London paintings was founded way back in 1824. Its headquarters are located in the central Trafalgar Square and inside it houses more than two thousand three hundred paintings from various eras and schools dating back to the middle of the twelfth century until the beginning of the last country . Admission to the main collection is perpetually free. In the beginning the collection of paintings was not very significant; it began to be so, when the British government decided to purchase 38 paintings fro the banker John Julius Angerstein in 1824 .The gallery was later enlarged, for obvious reasons ,tanks to the incessant work by its first directors, including the figure of Sir Charles Lock Eastlake and to donations from private individuals. Over time, this Gallery has achieved unexpected goals, tanks to the presence of works by great masters from Europe, dated from the Middle Ages up to post impressionism. At this point , it is fair to say that this wealth works was amply enriched by the presence of minor works and by local schools .The only part of the building, which has remained largely unchanged over rime is the facade of 1832-1838, designed by the architect William Wilkins; everything else has been expanded to accommodate new works. This Gallery , of course, I recommend it only to all those who are lovers of the great art of all time. I take this opportunity, to wish you happy holiday and to hear from you, after my return from the well-deserved summer break. ?❤❤❤

So it is pretty enjoyable and comfortable. I spent about four hours but I took time to read the descriptions and gazed at some paintings longer. Worth it!

One of the grandest symbols of Western Civilisation, the most sophisticated and successful ever on planet Earth. Thousands of some of the world's greatest works, by the world's greatest artists, collected by some of the world's most important and cultured people. To be protected at all costs from today's ignorant social justice warriors, the ungrateful wretches who despise everything about the culture that has freely given them all this.

It's an amazing gallery, and I can give grace for the fact that we're all in a difficult situation with covid and just trying our best. Also, it's free, so I can't complain about that. Having said that, and recognizing that these are first world problems, tbh, I really did not enjoy my visit post-Covid. Being able to wander freely is one of the best things about such a vast art gallery. The areas you can access are quite limited, and the one-way system is not always clear. Some rooms only have arrows indicating the directions at the entrance and exit, and it's not clear if you are meant to treat the room as a roundabout or if you can wander freely in that room as long as you maintain distancing and then use the correct exit. Feeling like I was constantly being watched and having fingers wagged at me for accidentally wandering into the wrong areas, when no clear signs were posted ... it just wasn't a very relaxing or enjoyable experience. Not being allowed to wear my small, low profile backpack on my back? I can maybe see that if it were crowded and I was bumping into people, but I was there on a Monday morning and never came within 4 metres of another visitor, let alone 2 metres. The backpack rule only makes sense if social distancing isn't possible. If people have been bumping into one another, then they are clearly allowing too many people in. The biggest issue is that the doors on the main entrance are not propped open and every single person has to touch the same handle whilst entering. Can't believe they haven't corrected that, and yet are enforcing other nonsensical rules.

  • 2/5 Mariya A. 3 years ago on Google
Strange rule that's nowhere to be seen on the website: you aren't allowed to wear your rucksack on your back, only on one shoulder or on your chest. This was only sprung on me (and everyone else, including people wearing very small rucksacks) when I arrived. I carry spare masks, extra sanitizer, and water in mine. I can't fathom why I can wear it on one shoulder but not both, but at least if I was forewarned I would have planned and brought another kind of bag. I like to spend a long time in front of different pieces and it is harder to do when encumbered. Anyway, I might have dealt with it if I didn't see a pair of young men without masks at all walk through the gallery without being stopped by the guard. Indecipherable set of rules to me, and the only museum/public area I've been to since the pandemic (and I've been to a few) to create a problem for me.

Hi fellow commuters! I took my students here for a school outing. Upon arriving, we were greeted by four vending machines which we ransacked like rabid dogs, as we were feeling peckish and in need of a sweet treat. A superior staff member told us to leave immediately so i set my students upon them. Luckily my students only dished out minor injuries such as ruptured organs and fractured skulls and eviscerated spinal cords. We left with a skip in our step knowing we had accomplished something. Great day!

The National Gallery is a truly amazing place to be, specially for art lovers. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900. Admission to the gallery is completely free, which is not the case in other galleries situated in different European cities. The gallery is very well kept and you'll find all the original paintings of famous painters starting from 13th to 20th century like Duccio, Uccello, van Eyck, Lippi, Mantegna, Botticelli, Dürer, Memling, Bellini, Michelangelo, Raphael, Holbein, Bruegel, Bronzino, Titian, Veronese, Caravaggio, Rubens, Poussin, Van Dyck, Velázquez, Claude, Rembrandt, Cuyp, Vermeer, Canaletto, Goya, Turner, Constable, Ingres, Degas, Cézanne, Monet, and Van Gogh. Apart from the regular galleries, there are also exhibitions held often in this place, along with other events which you could attend if you're interested. Don't forget to visit the National Portrait Gallery too, which is located right by the side of the National Gallery, but often overlooked by the tourists.

Visited the interactive gossaerts adoration sense unseen exhibition. What a revelation! Please present more paintings in this format. Wow! An intimate way of getting up close to a painting not allowed in normal gallery conditions. We got in the day before the pre Christmas lockdown but if it’s still there in the new year, definitely recommended!

Located centrally near Trafalgar Square tube station. One can reach this place with great ease. The entry to national gallery is free. It has a collection of tens of thousands of art works that are done by famous painters. Most of the paintings are very old and show the traditions of people of that time. They are really mesmerising. The paintings are kept thematically in various rooms, with proper lighting. Then there is a restaurant where one can buy a ☕ to make the stay more comfortable. One can invariably find hundreds of tourists visiting this place at any point of time.

An astonishing achievement to bring so many paintings by Artemisia Gentileschi together at one time, including some from private collections and others from across the world. Amongst those I have not come across before was her 1636-7 “Bathsheba bathing“, with David almost invisible away in the background a virtually amorphous dark lump on a balcony: all the colour; all the personality in Bathsheba and her maid servants, and the relationships between them. The staff were universally welcoming and friendly: not easy with the various requirements to wear face-nappies &cetera: these requirements are not of their making, and even though pointless they have to be enforced. A fabulous visit.

This is a fantastic Art Gallery with fabulous paintings. They have an exhibition on at the moment showcasing the art of Artemisia Gentileshi an amazing female Baroque painter who was trained by her father. The colours are sumptuous and the paintings all tell stories. Well worth a visit. They also have Titian and other great artists.

Not to be missed. There is a lot to see here. Best if you plan before and make a decision on routes B or C as you cannot do both. That said whichever you choose you will be amazed. There are paintings here that are known the world over. The staff are friendly but firm about numbers and you can easily spend a day here or just an hour or two ticking off many of the great artist. Food for the mind and soul.

What a mind blowing experience… just booked online and got a spot within half an hour, since we we already at the premises. Had to queue for approximately 15 minutes in a very long queue, but it went relatively fast as you just had to present your barcode and could go straight in. There wasn’t any charge, but you could give an optional donation of £5 , or pay £14,95 for a guide. A fantastic way to experience some of the most epic art in history.

What an amazing day in London, I had to fit in a visit to the National Galley, with just two hours before closing, it was easy to book a visit via the app and it’s amazing what you can see in just two hours, JMW Turner, Vermeer, Rembrandt and the Impressionist painters but to mention a few, next time your in London make a visit it a minutes walk from Trafalgar Square. Enjoy Marc A Turner, Warrington Based Artist

All the staffs are extra friendly, very good at what they are doing, went out of their way to perform and make the experience magical for children. The manager wears the same Christmas jumper as my son which makes the child beyond happy. All the elves, Santa himself, storytelling, arts and crafts, all so perfect.

Wonderful collection of fabulous paintings and art work from Medieval to early 20th century. There is so much to see that you risk being overwhelmed, you definitely need more than one visit to do it justice. In my opinion, many of the best pictures are less well known, so if you just concentrate on famous ones, you will miss out.Brilliant that it is free, though they do need donations if you can manage it.

Probably one of the best art museums in Europe. If you're an art lover in London this is a must visit place. They have 3 exhibitions which are starting from medieval ages and finishing with Van Gogh, Picasso and so on. Might spend a couple of hours there.

Always a joy to visit the National Gallery. I try to visit each time I am here in London. Booking a time slot prior to visit meant more planning on visitors’ part but it makes for a more pleasant time at the gallery. I was able to enjoy the gallery more thoroughly.

  • 5/5 Rhonal 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful gallery with some truly unique pieces such as The Van Gogh sunflower - booking in advance needed due to Covid - the museum is free as many in London they ask for donations but this isn’t obligatory - next to the national portrait gallery and trafalgar square. Definitely recommend it.

Simply wonderful. It was my biggest dream to see a few paintings like William Turner's the fighting Temeraire, the Ambassadors by Hans Holbein the younger etc before death and dreams do come true. I visited the gallery today. The entry is free, thanks to the British government and one should remember that the gallery is very crowded. I sat in a chair nearby to enjoy the beauty of a painting but I couldn't sit for more than 30 seconds due to the profusion of people coming and going around. Also, don't forget to wear a mark as London is becoming the epicentre of Covid-19.

Had a great time viewing renaissance and classical paintings here. A lot of them were inspired by religious figures and events. The ice cream art installation outside was said to mean political instability, I don't recall which artist is responsible.

We spent about 3 hours at the Gallery. The app Keeper of Paintings will keep your kids entertained all the time. My daughters (11 & 5 y.o) were enthusiastic to find all the colours for the palette and to collect all the badges. This app is great when you are visiting a gallery with kids. Also we went to a a workshop in room 34. I love these workshops because they enable children to develop and improve their painting skills.

What an amazing collection that is well organized and free to the public! Three “routes” suggested by the gallery depending on the “era” of artists to help you navigate. I especially enjoyed the Monet and Van gogh selections, and it was great and SO creative how they compared the two women portraits of Picasso and Ingres together side by side - a superb educational moment that helps to make the public more art-involved! I was also pleasantly surprised by a Klimt! You can easily spend an entire day navigating the gallery slowly and absorbing the descriptions and artwork; however if you are pressed for time, I suggest focusing on one of the three “routes” and allotting about 1-1.5h to really enjoy the artwork without rushing.

  • 5/5 Luis P. 1 year ago on Google
I went there with my daughters and wife. In my country it is very rare to have a chance to see painting done by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Monet, Renoir etc... There are some pieces of art that you might want to reserve some time just to check all the details, they will blow your mind. All the museum is spotless, all the employees that I talked to were very helpful and very nice. It was a great visit that I want to repeat as soon as possible.

Favourite gallery I’ve been to ! They have a selection of great paintings. It was truly amazing and impressive. It is well organised, so it’s easy to navigate and make sure you didn’t miss anything. The building itself is also beautiful especially on the inside. There isn’t much waiting time. But it’s better to book in advance. Also great tote bags at the museum shop !

Loved it. You can go and see ones of most magnificent paintings in art history. Or you can sit and contemplate your favourite piece for hours. No ticket fees, but you need to book the slot as it's popular and usually quite busy.

Magnificent art, this place is definitely for art lovers, has an amazing gift shop!

We had the most beautiful time at the National Gallery. "Our contributions may be expressed through the creation of works of art, architecture, music, literature, and culture, which embellish our planet, quicken our senses, and brighten our lives" -Gérald Caussé My time at the National Gallery did exactly that! I love good art, and it was the perfect environment to appreciate it⚘️💕

The National Gallery is for people who love to look at art and understand it. Mainly a 5min wait with a quick bag check when entering the Gallery + a free entry except for the exhibitions. There's a lot of paintings to look at like the sunflowers of Van Gogh and other made by amazing artists. Just by entering on the right there's a gift shop that sells prints and post cards and other. Going down the stairs on the left of the gallery , there's also another gift shop that sells similar things and on the right the restrooms.Lovely experience!

An amazing gallery. There were many well-known paintings, such as Sunflowers by Van Gogh, but there was also a wide variety of lesser known but just as beautiful paintings. The building itself was beautiful as well. And it’s free as well, so you get to visit centuries worth of art history without spending a dime. Definitely worth a visit if it’s your first visit to London.
