The location is great. The hostel is right on Gran Via, close to Callao. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The rooms, although nice, are very basic. Great deal for the price. We stayed at Hostal Adis on our return trip, and Santillan was 10x better.

Plus : Clean rooms, AC, TV, Internet, bathroom had a hair dryer. Minus: No other further amenities were available. (no mini-fridge, no ironing board) The hostels' reception is at the 8th floor The staff were unavailable past 11PM until 8AM. Tough luck if you arrive in the middle of the night or have to get in and have no keys.

Super nice and cozy hostel right in the hearth of Madrid. Location is perfect. You can explore the whole city by foot. just a 10-15 minutes to Puerta del Sol. Room and bathroom were very clean. Also the staff is friendly

Our room was very clean especially the bathroom which is extremely important to me. The bed and the pillow were comfortable and I enjoyed my sleep. Also all the people working there, from the cleaning lady to the receptionists, were very polite, helpful and nice and they were always greeting us with a smile. What would make the room even better is a mini fridge, very much needed during the summer. I highly recommend Santillian!

Very Clean, price unbeatable! We stayed here a few days. Everything was perfectly fine! Had a great time in the accomidation. Ofcourse not the biggest rooms, but enough for 2 Persons. Very friendly staff and clean rooms! And its directly located in the middle of Madrid!

Perfect place in the heart of Gran via. Stayed there in December. The lights across street Principal was amazing. Good place to stay. No restaurant, Tiny Lift though.

great time in madrid! great location, nice and clean rooms, very beautiful building, affordable prices. to this day i'm surprised that i had a chance to spend a few nights in madrid for such a low price (considering how nice and how great located this place is). everything was perfect. when i am in madrid the next time, i will be staying in Santillan again for sure.

Very comfortable and clean

Location is what you're getting here. The rooms were comfortable and the water pressure was the best I've ever had. Big things to note: bring ear plugs for street noise and the bathroom was very small on size even for one person to move around.

Great room and location in the Gran Via, a short walk to Plaza Metro. Would recommend.

I booked this Hostal after my airbnb reservation got canceled last minute. I did a lot of research and when I found this place and read the reviews, I felt confident booking. Booking was easy and the staff communicated with me and answered my questions very quickly. We arrived around 8am and were told our room wasn’t ready. A staff member offered to store our luggage and even offered us the option to shower in a hall bathroom. They ended up having the room ready early, at 9:30 so we could get in. The room was simple but had plenty of space for us and our stuff. It was clean and well stocked. The staff was extremely nice and went above and beyond to be helpful the entire time. All I would note is that it’s a hostal, not a hotel. So it’s the bare minimum and it’s perfect for people who don’t plan on spending a lot of time in the room. The walls were kind of thin so we could hear other guests talking and opening doors and walking in the hallways. But it was mostly quiet during sleeping hours. Our room was an interior room and we couldn’t hear the noises from Gran Via. I imagine a street facing room would have a fantastic view but be quite loud at all hours. I highly recommend this place for a simple, comfortable, clean & affordable stay!

We loved our stay. Hotel room has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Everything is clean and updated. The hot water and air conditioning work well, and you don’t hear the street noise. Excellent front desk service. Great location.
