Firstly, please note, this is not located in the correct place, it is actually located within the Castle Courtyard within the building to the left of the State Rooms, I know, I went there several days ago. It is the Crown Treasury and Armoury, see photo of Castle Plan. Both are worth visiting. The Crown Treasury display is particularly good as it spotlights on the treasures exhibited with darkened room so you don't get back reflection from the glass cabinets.

The castle is extraordinarily huge that you can spend the whole day just exploring the whole areas. Too bad that for every exhibition/place you need to buy your ticket separately. We only went to the royal garden but the garden is much smaller than we thought (luckily the ticket price is around 1 euro so....) and we were also expecting more flowers but there weren't that many.

It was snowing on this visit, but the architecture and features were still impressive. You do not need a ticket to tour the grounds, only if you wish to tour the castle rooms, which is done with a guide. These are extensive and together with the historical explanation of Polish history, make a lengthy and very interesting tour.

We had a guided tour, which I'd recommend as we didn't know anything about the castle. Stunning tapestries and furnishings. I would have liked longer to explore as there were three floors, and we hardly touched the surface. Looked beautiful with the snow.

Great place to explore. If you want to see an exhibition, you can chose and pay for the part you are interested in. The royal rooms were interesting, there could be a little more explanations to the exhibition items. Expect lots of groups on the weekends, best to go early.

Very beautifully place. We didn’t visit it inside, just walked around the Castel. We enjoyed the scenery. Especially we liked the Dragon cave, it was something extraordinary and special we saw in the last days.

It is a good way to spend your time. A huge benefit of it is that most of it is actually free. We aren’t the kind of people to be interested in these type of things therefore we’re being quite neutral when it comes to it. It’s a way to spend some time without spending your money unlike other attractions nearby!

An overly complicated experience. Every part of this place is a separate ticket. We bought tickets for every area in there. Our first place was the cathedral only to be told we needed to buy another ticket for that. Which we didn't get. Then we noticed that on our tickets they had timeslots. Spread over 4 hours ( you can see everything in under an hour), we didn't plan staying that long so we wasted money on tickets for things later in day. This wasn't explained to us when buying tickets. Was a beautiful castle but the ticket system made no sense. It should be buy a ticket and go look at everything you want to see. They would even make more money that way as people aren't always going to see everything there. Gardens are worth a visit if you do go but I for one would never visit it again.

Majestically wonderful castle in the center of the city. Stunning brick wall and green vines are all overflowing with feeling of history. The inner square with gardens is incredible as well. The staff working there is also really nice. Overall we had a great time during our visit. Can highly recommend the whole complex 5/5 ⭐🇵🇱

We visited the state rooms and private apartments which were interesting, lots to see but felt more like a museum than any kind of living space....which is what we wanted to see. Would have preferred to pay a value fee to view all parts rather than what would have been expensive. The grounds are free, so just do that and take photos if in a hurry or want to save a few £.

It is a site which is historically and culturally important to the Poland. I have very Good experience by visiting there. This site is one of the UNESCO world heritage site. If you visit there you can have great knowledge about the Poland’s historical and cultural background. Very attractive place for the tourist and this place gains more attractions people from all over the world. One of the best place to visit in Krakow, Poland. Love this place and like to go there again. There are small fees to visit inside the museum but you can walk around the buildings and have a great feelings by seeing them.

The entrance itself gives you touristic, popular vibes. All the places are unique in their own way because of different historical backgrounds, and so is this place too. One thing we didn't like is the fact that we have to buy separate tickets for each place in the same compound. They can give an option to buy a combined ticket to visit all 6-7 places inside this compound.

Very important place for Polish history. Great architecture. Slightly complicated for a foreigner a system / list of tickets. You have to choose from a dozen attractions and then pay for the selected ones (some attractions are available at a certain time).

The castle was quite interesting! It is quite big so there is a lot to see. My recommendation is go there with time and choose what you're most interested in seeing. We went inside of the cathedral which was quite cool with all their rooms, the bells and the crypts. We wanted to go see the crown jewels, but I was carrying a backpack and you cannot go in with it, but they do have a cloakroom where you can leave it.

Four days ago, I rode my electric mobility scooter (It's basically an electric wheelchair with front handle bars) to the Castle gate and was stopped by a female security guard. I assumed she'd inform me of ramps, lifts etc. I smiled and said 'hi'. She did not smile but said 'hi'. She twirled her finger at my mobility scooter and asked "what's this?" Puzzled, I told her. She said "bikes and these things" are not allowed here. Surprised, I asked how do other wheelchair users visit the castle - she answered in perfect English she doesn't understand English very well. Her tone and attitude indicated I leave immediately. The Castle's website dedicates a whole page to wheelchair users being welcome. I didn't get a chance to assure her I wouldn't do anything silly like wheelchair somersaults, acrobatics or taunt the staff with 'Catch me if you can!'...I'm a 60 year old woman with arthritis. In any case when I visit castles, museums, churches, synagogues, mosques etc I fold my mobility scooter and use it as a walker - out of respect. I was so upset that I emailed the Castle H/O regarding this incident suggesting they update their website to exclude electric mobility scooters. I also suggested they view their CCTV proving I'm not lying.

Lovely castle with centuries of history in a great location on the low hill next to the river. Touring there is mesmerizing. The whole old town of Krakow is enchanting!

Really nice castle, worth a visit to learn more about the location and appreciate the buildings and grounds. Very easy to get to but there is quite a walk up to the castle. Way bigger than it looks once you get in there. It is free to enter, however, there is a charge, a small one to get into some of the buildings and gardens. Which is nice because you can pay for what you want to see and leave the other parts if you don't. Access to the gardens for example cost 4 of us about 5 GBP total. There is plenty to see if you don't want to pay.

Wawel Royal Castle is an absolute must see when you're in Krakow. It is an icon of Krakow, and Poland in general, and therefore any serious traveler cannot omit it in their itinerary. It is one of the first renaissance royal residences north of Italy and influenced scores of buildings throughout the region. The castle houses several exhibits. The tickets for each must be bought separately. Come early because the passes tend to sell out before noon. The prices are pretty cheap but the tickets for the cathedral must be purchased in a separate building. There are audio guides available and also there are actual guides hanging out that will solicit their services, they are licensed and knowledgeable.

As a history enthusiast, visiting the Wawel Royal Castle was a dream come true. This remarkable architectural gem in Krakow, Poland, truly captures the essence of the nation's rich and illustrious past. Upon arriving at the castle grounds, I was immediately struck by its imposing presence and the sense of history that pervades the air. The intricate details and grandeur of the castle's exterior instantly transported me back in time to an era of kings and queens. The castle complex boasts stunning gardens and courtyards, offering picturesque views of the Vistula River and the city of Krakow. Strolling through these serene spaces, I felt a sense of tranquility and appreciation for the beauty that surrounds the castle. The staff at Wawel Royal Castle deserves special mention for their warmth and knowledge. They were always ready to share fascinating stories and historical facts, making the visit even more enriching. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply someone who appreciates beautiful architecture, Wawel Royal Castle is an absolute must-visit. It offers an immersive journey through Poland's past and leaves you with a deep appreciation for the country's cultural heritage. My visit here was an unforgettable experience, and I cannot wait to return someday to continue my exploration of this exceptional historical landmark.

Came here on a Tuesday and there was a huge line to buy tickets so I would suggest you purchase tickets in advance. As far as the exhibitions I only went to the state rooms which were mildly interesting. I’m not sure I would pay to see anything next time, it’s better to just walk around the castle and learn the history on your own. The cathedral also looked stunning though I did not pay to go inside. To be honest everything seemed like a cash grab.

One of the most beautiful places on the earth. The brilliance of preserving every piece of history is something special about the place. It's definitely huge but you don't feel that because most of the time we are amazed by the things there in the castle.

This is an unmissable experience in Kraków. The castle is divided into several different museums and you can just do one or two, but if you want to do more than three it makes sense to buy the all-inclusive ‘Wawel for Enthusiasts’ ticket. It will need four or five hours to do it justice, but it does mean you get to see some of the quieter exhibitions that you might otherwise miss, such as Lost Wawel. The highlights are naturally the state and private apartments, but every museum has something of interest for those who really want to engage with this site in detail. Should additional energy be required, the café-restaurant by the ticket office is very good. Note that the cathedral is a separate ticket paid for by the cathedral entrance.

A nice castle just in the center of Krakow. Absolutely worth visiting. It contains several expositions to be combined or to visit separately. We opted for the Royal Treasury an for the Armoury. We have liked both of them. A reasonable size collection but nicely exposed and contains some really interesting pieces. Don’t forget to leave your backpack in locker near the shop ;)

One of the most significant cultural sites in Europe (if not the planet). This was the royal Palace for many Polish kings and queens. Entrance to the grounds is free. The various sites on the grounds have nominal entry fees. They even have discounted tickets available.

It is indisputably a must-see sight in Krakow; it is worth allocating at least half a day for the visit, start with a tour of the castle (we hired a private guide and enjoyed it very much as she was able to put everything we saw in a broader context) followed by the cathedral visit (I highly recommend the audio guide - extremely well presented facts and not too long).

A must-see in Kraków. Among the offered tours I personally prefer the tour to the private royal rooms, however, on a good day it is nice even to simply walk around. From time to time they also have very nice artistic exhibitions.

Highly recommend a visit in Cracow for all the tourist. All the money is worth to go and stay for at least couple of days. Krakow is offering plenty of attractions all over the city. Obviously the prices around Old Town are higher than in other districts however still are affordable. It’s nice to spend couple of days there and learn bit of Polish history.

A stunningly beautiful fort that is a landmark of Krakow. Very blessed to have had a chance to walk through the historic courtyards and soak in the culture and significance of this monument. The view of the Vistula boulevard and neighborhood is excellent. Gives you a sense of how the fortress protected inhabitants. Lots of tourists makes it hard to navigate the walkways. Nevertheless the walk inside is mesmerising.

A grand castle, which has been well maintained and turned into a museum. There are areas that need tickets to enter, and yet some spaces that are not ticketed. The view of the Wasła river from the castle is a beauty one cannot speak enough of.

We loved our visit. Using a walking stick, the climb up the shallow steps was steep but we took it very slowly and people were able to overtake us easily. The effort was well worth it as the views of the Vistula River and City of Krakow was stunning. We chose not to go into the museum but chose to have a relaxing iced coffee in the central square of the castle and sit and enjoy the busy atmosphere under the shade of the umbrellas surrounded by beautiful flowers in the gardens. The paving in the main area of the castle square is excellent but the cobblestones around the outside of the walls are a bit more "rustic" so take care if you have mobility issues. All in all a great place to visit!

Admission fee is not low (approx. 20zlt) but you get a lot in return: access to the cathedral, the bell tower with nice views (a unique experience) and the different crypts. It's worth it's money and well maintained. Great visit on a rainy day. There's parking in the street below the castle although limited spots. Most parts are not wheelchair friendly.

Situated just about 10 minutes walk from the city center. One of the most stunning castles I've ever seen! You can spend all day long walking around and observing the Wisla river. The Dragon statue also was really cool and there was a Game of Thrones chair where you could sit and take a picture of yourself!

This castle is really pretty and free to wander around! It is on a hill by the river in Krakow centre! There are beautiful views around the outskirts with old structure remnants on the inside with information boards to guide you around the grounds easily. The entrance gate was cool and just at the top of a staircase from the main streets ✨ There are toilets located within a square but can only be used with cash

This castle is a bit special you need time and some patience to visit. I still cannot believe that entrance to the grounds and garden is free. There is so much to see and enjoy and there is such a buzz about the place. We did not visit the interior of the castle as there was a very long queue. I think you will enjoy the castle and grounds without seeing inside. We had a lovely day and we visited one of the cafes which was great. If you must visit inside you would be advised to book in advance.

We bought a ticket for the staterooms online the day before and never received the ticket email - but we went to the main ticket desk on arrival and they sorted it all very easily and quickly. Only one ticket point that I knew of as there was no one to actively direct the tourists to the other one and as a result we spent an awful lot of time in the queue. Poor historical information on the displayed items within the castle unless you pay for a guide I presume. If you plan to see all of the castle displays plan well ahead - be there super early as the entry for each display it being booked for a specific time at the time of ticket purchase. There are two Cafés that I know of that serve food and drinks. As in most places in PL you need to pay to use the toilet. Overall good day out, but lacks the value for money factor.

Wawel castle is definitely enriched with history and certainly deserves hours of our attention. The only down point is the ticketing system, appalling, horrendous.! Tried to get tickets online to skip the queues and their "Przelewy24 system + cooperating banks" don't process the payment quick enough for you not to miss your entry time...which leads me to the next issue: There's no information about entry time anywhere on the castle grounds and when we finally got the tickets, it was different from the website. Also they let you stay on one queue, where it's possible to get tickets for just the attraction you want at its entrance 🤦🏼‍♂️.

It was interesting venue to see. All tapestries are awesome. Some of them as big as the walls. However, despite being one of main attractions in Krakow, we had a hard time finding the entrance. Lack of signs indicating where to go at such a large venue and crowded place. On the website when we booked online, we had to select specific time as they stated to limit number of people at a time. But in reality, we bumped to many people mostly from a big group, definitely more than 15 people.

The royal castle Wawel- very interesting destination for the trip. Very good was the possibility to buy the tickets online, before the planned trip. But we were surprised, that the lady, checking tickets on entry, had sent us to the luggage room with our small backpacks. We were allowed only to take our bottles with water with us. We have seen totally different approach to the domestic tourists. They were allowed to take with them everything- backpacks, big bags and handbags… This different approach made us quite upset, despite the beautiful and interesting exposition of tapestries, coffered ceilings, historical furniture.

Didn't go into the castle but the whole area around the castle, down by the river and fire breathing dragon is so beautiful, highly recommended a walk around. There is a cafe and toilets and small garden. Slightly steep walk up and very uneven under foot at the top. Nice views over the river and the city, gorgeous differing architecture, well worth visiting.

While we didn’t go inside on our walking tour, the approach & castle grounds themself, are more than impressive enough. One of the main landmarks & sights/ attractions in Krakow, the history of this royal castle is a must to experience for any visitor to town. Pay special attention to the “story told in architecture”, where you can literally see almost every style of classical building, from Romanesque to gothic to renaissance, etc…tracking the different owners/ dynasties & eras of the castle, through its construction. It was a very unique highlight of our exterior tour.

The Wawel Royal Castle is a castle residency located in central Kraków, Poland, and the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world. Built at the behest of King Casimir III the Great, it consists of a number of structures from different periods situated around the Italian-styled main courtyard. Don't forget to see the Dragon Statue when you visit the xastle!

Great majestic castle to look at. Not sure if there are tours to go inside. It was closed when I visited. The castle is located at an amazing location and provides a great view is the city as well. Nothing too fancy about the external architecture. Good place to hang out and experience Krakow

Fantastic piece of history. So much detail in the exterior of the buildings. Only awarded 4 stars as we didn't do any tours so can't comment on that part. We just went to the outside grounds. Lovely views of krakow city from the top.

If you are in the city it is a must to visit. The Castle itself can be visited free. For the museums, exhibitions and the Cathedral you need to buy ticket. Audio guide is also available in several languages. Tickets can be theoretically bought online as well, however the site did not work properly once we tried. Hint: on public/national holiday check the opening time as this may be vary.

Nice castle with many paintings. Not at the same level of other palaces or historical places I've visited, but still worth visiting. There's a river and a dragon spitting fire nearby. It's also cheap and students get a discount.

Review: Zamek Wawel Zamek Wawel, also known as Wawel Castle, is a majestic gem that stands proudly in the heart of Kraków. This historical landmark is steeped in centuries of Polish heritage and offers a captivating journey through time. As you approach the castle, its grandeur and magnificence leave an indelible impression. The stunning architecture, featuring a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, showcases the rich artistic and cultural heritage of Poland. Every corner of Zamek Wawel tells a story, and the intricate details of its façade are a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. Upon entering the castle, you are greeted by opulent halls, exquisite courtyards, and beautifully adorned chambers. The State Rooms, with their elaborate tapestries and ornate ceilings, transport you to a bygone era of royalty and grandeur. The Crown Treasury and Armory exhibit an impressive collection of royal regalia, jewels, and historical artifacts that give insight into the country's rich history. One of the highlights of Zamek Wawel is the awe-inspiring Wawel Cathedral. Its towering spires and intricate decorations make it a true architectural marvel. Inside, you can explore the chapels, tombs, and crypts that house the remains of Polish kings, queens, and national heroes. The breathtaking Sigismund Bell, with its melodious chimes, adds to the mystical ambiance of the cathedral. The castle complex also offers breathtaking views of the Vistula River and the city of Kraków from its strategic location atop Wawel Hill. The panoramic vistas from the castle's ramparts are simply breathtaking, offering a picturesque backdrop for memorable photographs. The staff at Zamek Wawel is knowledgeable, courteous, and eager to share the castle's history and legends with visitors. Guided tours are available, providing valuable insights into the significance and stories behind each area of the castle. Whether you are a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or simply seeking to immerse yourself in the grandeur of the past, Zamek Wawel is an absolute must-visit. It embodies the essence of Polish heritage and offers a remarkable experience that will leave you in awe of its beauty and cultural significance.

    1. Must visit Place. 2. The best city view especially for sunset. 3. The eco-greenery over the walls is mesmerizing. 4. Peaceful place and free arms chairs are available to sit. 5. The localities are very friendly towards foreigners. 6. Romantic place for couples for hand-in-hand walks.

We had a lovely 2-3 hour tour of the whole castle. Our guide was extremely knowledgable and we got the whole highlights as a result. If you wanted to self tour and see everything then the castle is a full day.

Beautiful architecture from when Poland was under control by several different cultures can be observed in the domes. Besides the long uphill entrance, the rest of the castle grounds were beautiful. You can also see the "legendary" dragon sculpture breathe fire from above. ;)

It’s a beautiful place, inside it’s also a beautiful garden, nice church and a romantic inside courtyard. It’s not always clear what is and where do you need to go but the staff is really nice and helpful, always „Dzień dobry“ and please in that way/ but in Polish.

Beautiful architecture and a pleasure to see. There was so much to see there, we only chose the Royal Apartments, the state rooms and gardens. You can buy a ticket for each individually which was good. I think seeing everything in one day would be too much as there is a lot of walking and stairs involved.

  • 5/5 Samuel M. 7 months ago on Google
Great views and lovely grounds to walk around. We had a very nice meal in the restaurant and the staff were welcoming and friendly. There's plenty of activities to choose from (we didn't get round many). We only experienced the Dragon's Den which involved a short walk through some caves. The ticket booth can be quite busy at peak times so you are best purchasing your ticket online. Next time we visit Krakow we will definitely explore more of the activities at Wawel Castle.

  • 5/5 Malgorzata T. 7 months ago on Google
I think I expected something different, but it was good anyway. We’ve planned the visit for Monday so it turned out to be a free admission day for some of the exhibitions which was a plus. If you wish to visit, the armoury is a must! Some great pieces there.

  • 5/5 Em D. 7 months ago on Google
Wow! What a huge castle! The ticket system did slightly confuse me for a second bit we went to the ticket office and purchased the tickets for the parts we were going in, you also get tickets for the free parts and then go to the Information desk and they give you a map of where to go. We did enjoy our time there but I've still never seen a system like it!

Wawel Castle, standing tall in Krakow, serves as a beacon of power, history, and positivity. Its majestic presence, visible from various vantage points across the city, only amplifies Krakow's inherent charm. Whether you choose to explore within its storied walls or simply bask in its grandeur from a riverside or city street, there's an undeniable joy in beholding this iconic landmark. Much like the castle's foundational strength, I've dedicated years to helping individuals build their own personal fortresses of fitness and well-being. Wawel Castle reminds us of the power of steadfastness and the beauty that results from dedication. For those aspiring to mirror such endurance and magnificence in their personal journeys, know that the right guidance can make all the difference. 🌆🏰🌊💪🏼

The castle is a beautiful place to visit and learn about Polish royal history. There are many tapestries, paintings, and antique replicas on display. Make sure to visit the cathedral and crypt, where royals were laid to rest. There are small cafes, a souvenir shop, and restrooms open to the public.

  • 5/5 Ouranio A. 5 months ago on Google
You definitely need some time to spend there because the castle is big and the complex included also the cathedral and the dragons den. The entrance to the grounds is free but in order to get inside you need tickets. I did not visit the interior of the castle as there was a very long queue and did not have much time. If you wish to visit inside you would be advised to book your tickets in advance.

  • 5/5 William W. 5 months ago on Google
A must visit location for Krakow. Entry to the area is free but individual building entries require tickets. You must visit the church, which beyond the normal church experience hosts the remains of numerous historical royalty figures. Detailed explanation texts are in both Polish and English. This ticket also includes a nearby museum with focus on Jean Paul II.

  • 5/5 Ken C. 5 months ago on Google
Very interesting castle. It went through many phases of occupation and ownership over the years from the 10th century. We took the highlight tour in English and will return for a more detailed look later. We waited less than an hour for our English language tour.

The Castle is very eclectic. Recently I visited early in the morning and was able to enjoy the outside of the castle without a bunch people around. It was very peaceful. Last year I took the Crown Treasury tour and my group was not a fan. There were rooms we enjoyed and history that was discussed but we obviously chose the wrong tour. It was long and history on objects did not interest us. (At the time, it was the only tour option left)

If you are ever in Krakow, you must visit the castle. It's a fairly large complex of buildings on top of a hill, the walk up isn't hard as there is a road leading up. The view from above is great, and guided tours are available for the castle itself. I cannot comment on the tours since I myself didn't do one, but tickets are required. It's located near other landmarks in the town and it's easy to walk to and from the castle and the old centre. Verdict: definitely worth the visit

Nestled in the heart of Krakow, the Wawel Royal Castle stands as an architectural marvel and a treasure trove of historical significance. This exceptional museum not only houses regal chambers adorned with opulent decorations but also boasts a diverse collection of artworks, artifacts, and relics that weave together the intricate tapestry of Poland's cultural and royal legacy. Exploring the Wawel Royal Castle allows visitors to traverse the corridors of time, from the medieval period to the Renaissance, immersing themselves in the stories of kings, queens, and the vibrant history that unfolded within these walls. The castle's architecture itself is a testament to the country's artistic prowess and political evolution. Whether marveling at the regal State Rooms, perusing the Wawel Cathedral, or strolling through the picturesque courtyards, each corner of this museum invites contemplation and appreciation for Poland's rich heritage. A visit to the Wawel Royal Castle is not merely a tour; it is an immersive experience into the soul of a nation, leaving an indelible mark on those who seek to unravel the layers of history within its hallowed halls.

I think I am spoilt by the excellent heritage sites in the UK which are well displayed and explained. This place was spectacular from the outside and well worth a wander around. The inside (state rooms) were interesting but could have been better described. I would not bother to go in again. Perhaps the cathedral was worth a look but we didn't have time. Disappointing that we had to pay to use the toilets and relatively expensive too compared to other prices in the city.

  • 3/5 Fred S. 3 months ago on Google New
It's worth the visit but nothing special. We went into the cathedral inside which was very nice and the state rooms. You need separate tickets for each building. The state rooms are nothing special, we didn't take the audio guide as it wasn't clear that there was this option and we do regret it. Everything was warm and clean and very well presented and preserved.
