Cathedral of the Madeleine Constructed: 1900 - 1909 Location: Salt Lake City, Utah Perched high along S Temple in Salt Lake City sits the Cathedral of the Madeleine (a favorite name of mine since being a little one). The immense stained glass windows shed a variety of illuminating hues across the section of pews which run from forward to aft of the Nave. A large organ with horns outreaching above the pews sounds haunting echoing tones. Gorgeous early 20th century sconces and chandeliers span the entire breadth of the cathedral walls and ceiling, casting a candescent glow throughout. Gargoyles adorning the twin towers on the front symbolize protection thereof, complete with a natural copper roof. An astounding cathedral to visit and tour. We were there whilst choir practice was in session, adding a magnificent resonance to the included video of the Nave. Enjoy 🌷 -A

Wonderful cathedral. Beautiful gothic exterior with some Romanesque interior. This is one of the only cathedrals in the US that’s named after Mary Magdalene (another name for Madeleine), and one of the few cathedrals in the US which has its own choir school. The cathedral has active ministries, such as a young catholic adult group, organ recitals, catechesis, cathedral tours, pro life group, and a lot more. The diocese helps 100,000’s of people (E.g. the homeless, refugees, the poor, students) every year as well through Catholic Community Services. The parishioners are friendly and welcoming. Come and visit to hear the word of God and a beautiful Mass!

My mom had a glorious time! Simon did an exceptional job of introducing the church and it's history to us. A wonderful experience! I recommend to anyone of any faith to admire the stained glass and ornamental woodwork! Thank you, again, Simon for representing the church and giving the history. 🥰 Good luck in your future endeavors!

So pretty and elegant. Magnificent. The building is taller than the last temple. Looks pretty old and famous.

Awesome! This cathedral is well maintained and packs a historical punch. I have some history with it and cherish each opportunity I get to visit. I would highly recommend stopping in and spending some time there. Whether it’s in prayer or in awe it’s worth the stop.

As a Catholic from abroad who had a family member pass away, I've been trying to find a church or anywhere I could go into to light a candle and say a prayer, everywhere near me was closed and then I found myself in the city one day and Googled if there was anywhere I could go nearby, it came back with results of this Cathedral and to say I was impressed is an understatement. The beauty of this building, both inside and out, is absolutely astounding.

Beautiful and majestic holy place. I scheduled a tour of churches in Salt Lake City and this was the first stop. The grandeur inside the cathedral truly humbles a person. A great feat of architecture and design allowing a person to feel closer to God.

This year's Chamber Artists Autumn Collage Concert was among the best symphony and chorus concerts I have experienced. It was so beautiful it moved me to tears. I was impressed by the venue. It was my first time at The Cathedral of the Madeleine.

I would recommend you to visit this cathedral. You will see how they have preserved the beauty of it. The exterior of the cathedral remains substantially the same as it was in 1909. ItisthwRoman catholic church in salt lake Utah city. And it is the only cathedral in the US under the patronage of St. Mary Magdalene

A beautiful cathedral. Much older than most in this part of the country. Amazing architecture and stained glass windows. We stumbled upon Eucharistic Adoration and confessions were going on. The artwork is stunning and life's one's heart and mind to God. Recommend to anyone who is Catholic to visit or simply loves great art. Prepare to be moved.

Wow! This cathedral is stunning! We enjoyed a concert there tonight for the Utah Chamber Artists (with orchestra). The acoustics are of course amazing! The art work was likewise beautiful, especially the stained glass windows. Mesmerizing!! What a great historic landmark for Salt Lake City.

I went to Sunday Mass here while traveling in SLC. The beautiful voices of the boys choir filled the grand cathedral throughout the service. The diocesan bishop presided and gave an inspiring homily. The cantor sang beautifully and the organ rivaled those of any in the world. I was truly thankful that I was given the gift of being able to attend Mass here in this great homage to our Lord.

Beautiful stained glass cathedral with neo-Gothic design interior. It was built in the early 1900 and took about a decade to finish. The organs are bold and beautiful. The altar paintings are meticulous and gorgeous. Such a peaceful and holy place to come for mass.

Beautiful church, phenomenal craftsmanship inside and out. Open to the public, organs were playing non stop. Vaulted ceilings with paintings on the Stained glass windows, murals and pictures of saints and and stories. There's a gift shop in the basement. Prayer candles are available so is holy water upon entering

Almost an art gallery. An impressive cathedral of history and art. 100% worth visiting. A quiet place for meditation and appreciation of life. I walked in there @ around 7pm on a Wednesday. I had the whole place to myself to walk, read, enjoy, and take pictures, all the while being quiet and respectful. Loved it.

It is a beautiful cathedral and place of worship, and a must-attend if in Salt Lake—a world-renowned choir in perfect harmony.

The cathedral was breathtaking in it’s stone masonry and art. As a place of worship and to admire its architecture it’s a beautiful spot in Salt Lake City to visit if you’re driving through.

Wow! What an amazing experience. Went to the 11:00 a.m. mass which was an English and in Latin on Sunday. Choir is phenomenal! Church members are extremely happy and welcoming to all. If you're going for mass or just checking out the church it's a must see. The stained glass is breathtaking. They have pamphlets to describe what's going on and what has changed in the church since it was built. Also make sure to go downstairs to the gift shop as they have plenty of interesting items. I purchased a coffee mug for Saint Drago who happens to be a saint of coffee and the ugly. It definitely caught my eye.

Incredible. So glad that the Catholic Dioceses of Utah worked hard to restore this building many years ago. The Catholic Church is WONDERFUL in hosting so many events each month so that so many in the community can appreciate and experience this beautiful cathedral. ⛪️

Amazing Cathedral. Come 1-2 hrs early for Christmas mass to get a good seat closer to the front as parking is also hard to find. Beautiful service that was done both in English and Spanish for the most part.

An absolute work of art. When you walk in to the main chamber it is breathtaking. You immediately feel the presence of love. The artwork on the ceiling and walls are magnificent. Whether you are a Catholic or not it should be on your must see list when visiting Salt Lake City.

This cathedral is BEAUTIFUL! The art and architecture is well done. There is beautiful stain glass windows. There are even gargoyles on the outside of the building. Not something you see everyday.

The ambience is great. The paintings on the wall creates a sort of warm yet ethereal feeling. One critic though, the musical instruments are so loud that one can barely hear the wordings of the hymns being sung - and the it’ll be nice if the priest could project a little more during homily; it is sometimes very difficult to hear him

This Catholic Church is one of the most beautiful in the US. Very worth stopping in! The priests were hearing confessions before mass but it was very solemn and peaceful. The baptismal font, gothic art and structure is beautiful and not to mention the bright colors and stain glass windows. Stop in and spend a moment in prayer. The tomb has a very special relic among other special touches.

A place of peaceful beauty. The design of the church and its interior spaces are breath taking. There is so much beauty everywhere you look it is hard to pick one element to focus on. From the stained glass windows to the hand painted cross are all incredible. The staff I encountered were friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely wonderful. Spiritually moving. Attended Easter Mass and the choir was impressive. The organ was everything a Cathedral organ should be

Love this cathedral! The sound is great, there's a lot of seating. Yeah, parking is really tough to find, you'll probably walk a while to get there, just preparing you. The stained glass windows are really cool. It's a cool cathedral and the only one in Salt Lake that I know of
