I’ve always enjoyed the Art Museum, my favorite showcase is the scholar showcase. Recently I went for an event they hosted in partnership with others and I had an amazing time there was kids run and playing out side there was kids in the inside along with adults doing the guided tours. I even over hear a little girl answer a question the tour guid asked and she got it right. The fun filled activities out side for both adults and kids. The Art museum even brought out Jackson Hinds for health screenings. There was several food trucks and in total for my entire time spent there I spent roughly 33 dollars. Not to mention they hosted a movie from the Cspire stage while everyone hung in the Bankplus green. I look forward to future event the Art Museum have.

This is a wonderful museum and grounds. Visited at the beginning of September as part of our Jackson roadtrip stop. Entrance was free and there was plenty of great pieces and interesting installations. But by far, the best part, was the kids’ section! My daughter absolutely loved it, so much in fact, that every art museum we visited after she complained that it wasn’t an art museum because she wasn’t allowed to make any art. Which, hard arguing with that logic to a 5 year old 😅 The space is smaller but if you’re bringing kids it’s honestly better, because you don’t leave feeling like you missed a whole section or a whole floor, etc. Overall, highly recommended!

I feel like this is an underappreciated gem in downtown Jackson. It's never been busy any time we have gone, even when free. It's a nice, peaceful place to spend an hour or so. Lovely garden on the grounds, nice, somewhat small permanent and visiting exhibits. Free on Sundays until Sept 2022 and some other days here and there - check website. Also worthwhile for special events like live outdoor music or the children's art festival. Free parking as well.

Went to the museum of art for Japan Fest. The organizers thought they would attract 200 people. When the doors opened there were already 120 people in line. Foot traffic wise they had 500 plus attendees. Very nice showing for an inaugural event. It was hosted by the Japanese consulate. Events such as traditional drumming and flute music, sake tasting, book mark making, sushi introduction, JET program, Japanese writing, art tables.

WAAAYYY too much politicized art! WAAAAYYY too much of the sentiment that Black people are victims and oppressed. God forbid that they are taking young school children in here and giving them the idea that the color of your skin determines your destiny. Let's try to encourage and inspire, rather than languishing in maudlin complaints of how things used to be. Gift shop was awesome though, and got close to $100 dollars out of me! : ) Did I mention that the building and grounds are beautiful?!

We visited this time on a high school field trip. Our group's guide was very knowledgeable and patient. She fielded the students' funny comments and sincere questions very well. The classroom activity really inspired some thought and allowed the kods to connect with the pirces we viewed. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to come again soon when we have more time to appreciate all that the museum as to offer.

I visited this museum while on a road trip across Mississippi, and I was blown away! They have a fantastic permanent collection of beautiful pieces that are free to the public, as well as a $40 invitational exhibit that is well worth it! I am always delighted to donate to parks and museums! The personnel is also quite polite, and the museum is rather lovely. Outside the museum, there is a lovely Art Garden where you may sit and see the wonderful flowers, trees, and sculptures.

I toured this museum during the Mississippi portion of a road trip, and I was really impressed! They have an excellent permanent collection of amazing works which are free to the public, and the invitational exhibit which is $15, but definitely worth it! I am always happy to give my money to parks and museums! The staff here are also very friendly and the museum is very beautiful. There is also a gorgeous Art Garden outside of the museum where you can sit and enjoy beautiful flowers and trees and sculptures.

Wonderful that Jackson could get the traveling Van Gogh, Monet and Degas exihibit. Small museum with nice gardens. Also will host events.

One of the best museum that we have ever visit. Pros: The place is pretty nice both from the outside and the inside. They are free so it is so amazing and everyone can come and visit that is so awesome. Let me pay the excise be a “special and there’s many activities that you can do while you are there. Cons: There’s not a lot of parking space and it is downtown so that may be quite something going on. Because it is free so there’s not many special pictures of arms that you can see.

Jackson has over 20 museums. This one is near the Jackson Convention Complex and the Russell C. Davis Planetarium. It is located behind Thalia Mara Hall in walking distance of the Westin hotel. I attended the 2023 Mississippi Invitational, which highlighted 15 young Mississippi Artists. The building is showing its age a bit, but is still very nice. The staff is friendly, courteous and efficient. The Art Garden is not to be missed.

An unusual art museum. There was one very small room for the permanent collection but they had two or 3 special exhibits in larger spaces there were quite nice. We loved looking at the modern quilts.

A lot of great art lives here. Local and MS art is showcased right in your backyard. It's worth a visit. Currently there is a Van Gogh exhibit that you have to pay extra for. I enjoyed the local art more than the Van Gogh exhibit.

The grounds are beautiful! It's a wonderful place to take pictures. Our children loved the kids' space inside the museum. There's also a splash pad outside! The best part is that admission is FREE!

A lovely mix of international and local artists. My favorite local was Gwendolyn A. Magee, whose quilting rises to the level of museum masterpieces. I paid $18, and I think part of that was for access to the traveling Picasso landscapes exhibit. Wow! There was even a hands-on component to the cubist exhibit: sketch pads and pencils with tips for how to draw in the vein of Picasso. To see so many of his works close-up was a real treat. Guide/docent Kenya was engaging and generous with her time. Thank you for sharing your personal touch!

I brought my family here on a Sunday afternoon. The gentleman at the desk was very polite informing us that the exhibit they had in place could be seen free of charge, and luckily they currently had a Picasso exhibit available to be viewed as well for a fee. I opted to see the Picasso exhibit, which I was quite pleased with. There is a crafting area in the museum that I certainly would encourage those with children to take the time to sit down and create with your children. I took pictures of the art, but due to being unsure of the legality of uploading them, I will keep them in my camera roll. Nevertheless, you will not be disappointed.
