Sivananda Kutir is not your fancy go-to Yoga school of the likes you would find in Rishikesh, Goa or Dharamshala. It is led by a highly professional and skilled teachers, following a strict routine and diet in an aspiration to impart a true and complete meaning of Yogic life, and not just Yoga. The Ashram itself is located in the small village Netala, enroute Gangotri, adjacent to the Ganga. The place is free from any kind of pollution and is a perfect setting for the course. It may initially take a while for a few (myself included) to adjust to the schedule. But do not let that discourage you as what comes next is surely a life changing experience. The Ashram teaches you everything you need to know to be a professional and well training Yoga teacher that you aspire to be. I am really grateful to all the teachers for their knowledge sharing, selfless service and taking care of all the students so well.

Netala, uttarkashi an ideal place to pursue your TTC or yoga journey. Living in an ashram for 30 days in a gurukul system surely gives you a bliss. And the moment you start to enjoy the life in the ashram....the course ends and you're left with heartful of memories and some amazing friends. -The food was satvic.(vegetarian) ( No onion and garlic, still it was tasty) -Gratitude for everyone who was taking care of the food and the kitchen. ( Manmohan ji, pandit ji, Rana ji, kusum ji) -Thankyou to Vinod ji who was always there to help us. - Asana classes by Yashpal sir were amazing, everyone enjoyed and learned a lot from him. - Meditation sessions were also self liberating. And chanting was one of the best parts of the TTC. - Accommodation was also good. - Bhagwat geeta and vedanta classes by swami ji and mataji were informative and gave new perspectives to experience life. - Only thing I would like to suggest, is to make Bhagwat Geeta and Vedanta classes more interactive and explanatory. Sometimes vedanta classes felt nothing more than just the dictation of the subject. A new way to explain the vedanta philosophy can be adopted which will result in the right understanding of the subject and eventually making it more interactive. - Bhagwat geeta discussions can be more open. If there is only one truth then it should be explained in a systematic and logical way rather just stating some quotes and asking us to belive (diversity of the perspectives should be acknowledged). I understand time is always a constraint in discussions but such an important subject should be given attention as it defines and develops the temperament of every student throughout the course. - And A big Thankyou to Mata ji who is selflessly serving the ashram and working for the betterment of everyone who is the part of the course like her own family. :)

Namaste, Sivananda kutir is a beautiful, serene and peaceful place to learn yoga, turn inward, and proceed on the spiritual journey. My experience in the ashram was very calm and composed and divine..! I am very happy that I did my TTC from here. Even though I felt the course has been tightly scheduled with various aspects, like Vedanta, Bhagavad Geeta, karma yoga, asanas, and Satsang, I felt its good to keep us engaged with these things so that we will be able to completely cut off from our matters and devote ourselves in imbibing what has been offered. I feel it was a way of bringing in the discipline in all of us and showing that, a lot of things are possible in a day and if we work on it, we can be more productive every day. It's all from our perspective. And the Ashram provided the most nutritious and delicious Satvik food always. I enjoyed it a lot, except for the Upma, And most importantly, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the staff in the ashram. Each one of them is very content, humble, and service-oriented. They always welcomed us with a beautiful smile when we approached them. Some of their presence itself brought certain Positive energy to us. A special thanks to Mataji and Vinod Ji for the timely help, during my neck injury. Also, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my fellow dormmates who took very good care of me. I will never forget the love and the care shown by each one of them. For me, every session of the course was really amazing, filled with content to learn from, and enjoyable. * The Best of the best sessions was the Satsangs where we meditated on the kirtans and sang them with all our hearts and I was completely able to imbibe the essence of those kirtans. Thank you to each one of them, who made it possible for me. * Swamiji's Bhagavad Geeta class was filled with life experiences. I was very much connected to his teachings, there was a lot to learn from him. * The Vedanta class felt a little difficult to understand in the beginning, but when I sat down to write the assignments, it triggered my curiosity to explore more. It was all I needed to learn as I was a beginner in the study of Vedanta philosophy as it was like an introduction to the important terminologies in the vast fields of philosophy and Upanishads. Of course in the time of 1 month, we can't learn everything about Vedanta. but from this stage, hope I can build further. And I always remember the sweet smile of Mataji and the way she careered herself, calm and composed. * The Asana class was amazing. Nandlal Ji is such a person with positive vibes always. Just his presence brought us the energy to try one more extra step forward in our practice always. The overall experience at the ashram is for a lifetime.! Thank You

Life changing experience…. Great support and guidance from all the Gurus. Mataji is the strong pillar who takes care of everyone like her own child. My heart felt Gratitude to our guru Uma Ji. I have gained so much through her style of teaching. Now I am super confident to pursue my yoga teaching. And I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude for our Bhagavadgita guru. One could never miss Tanmayi Maiyya ji lecture on Bhagavadgita. It was pure bliss chanting Shloka’s with her and listening to her commentary. And how can I miss PunditJi, Manmohan Ji, Kusum Ji… who were all there to support us during this journey. Thank you Sivananda Kutir for giving this learning and experience which I hope to carry forward for rest of my life.

I came here for 4 weeks yoga teachers trading course. The location of ashram is beautiful. On one side Maa Ganga and other side Gangotri road. The staff, Maataji, Swamiji and other karma yogi staff was kind, co-operative, smiling and dedicated The curriculum, the course is very well designed and transforms oneself thoroughly. It provides authenticate knowledge of yoga and moulds participants accordingly. Training material is fantastic. We really enjoyed morning and evening satsang here, you can feel the energy here. Our Hathyoga teacher Mr Yashpal was perfect, I think with Gods grace we get such teacher, from him we learn lots of things. Explanation about Bhagwad Gita and teaching to carry from it was beyond comparison. The punctuality is fantastic I will certainly recommend this place if one has to eager about real yoga knowledge

An unforgettable experience... All of the Swami Ji(s) and Teachers have been extremely kind and supportive. Also met with all the beautiful souls (fellow students), some become family and some become lifelong friends. Great location to learn Yoga because Kutir located in heart of father Himalayas and by the mother Ganga 🏞️ Now I'm ready to pursue my yoga teaching career. And there aren't enough words to explain how grateful I am. Chanting clasz, weekly short walk and trekking were also great memories and joys. Thank you, Sivananda Kutir, for this learning and experience that I hope to carry with me for the rest of my life.🙏🏻🙇🏻

Wonderful spiritual experience. In the Himalayas by the Ganga where you will find peace and happiness for your soul and body. The stay, schedule, food was all perfect. In terms of the course content, it is very comprehensive and detailed as it must be for a yoga TTC. One must take the experience with an open mind and heart to truly enjoy it.

A simple ashram at the banks of Ganges with a beautiful view of the hills. Perfect for a spiritual retreat. Though the ashram is smaller compared to its other branches, the holy river adds all the divinity that is needed in our yoga practice. The staff are great. They have rooms as well as dorms that are neat and tidy. I had a wonderful experience.

I booked 1 month at Sivanada Kutir as a yoga vacationer, however sadly had to leave a few days leave early due to bad weather conditions and risk of missing a flight (they very generously refunded me for the nights that I had already paid for). I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone looking to experience more tradition styles of Hatha. I was able to explore many new asanas which I hadn’t attempted before and the teaching was great, I especially enjoyed the physical adjustments. As well as being challenging, the teachers also made the classes very enjoyable with lots of laughter. I found the dorm accommodation decent and the food was always well made and tasty, they have a great kitchen team. I would however urge anyone going to consider that the food is extremely different to what we are used to in the west. I learnt that the majority of westerners who go to Sivanada centres face digestive issues, not only because of the food itself, but because of the stringent schedule (especially for the TCC) meaning that most experience constipation. As someone with an intolerance to legumes, I found the diet extremely tough and very often had low energy levels. This meant that I was unable to enjoy the experience to the fullest. There was little fresh fruit and vegetables served and this is really something that the ashram should address, as I believe that it would greatly improve the experience for many who are staying for extended periods. I also noticed that everyone agreed that the evening satsung went on for too late (9-10pm), considering that we then had to wake up to be back at satsang for 6am. Regardless of the above, I would absolutely recommend the ashram to fellow travellers. I’m sure that management is aware of these complaints and I urge them to reconsider how they can make some small changes in order to improve the experience for their visitors. Special thanks to the yoga vacationer teachers for facilitating such a wonderful experience!

I had the privilege of traveling all the way from Chile to the Himalayas in April 2023 to attend the Teachers' Training Course (TTC) at Sivananda Kutir, and I cannot express in words how incredible this experience was. It deserves a solid 5-star rating without a doubt. The location itself is simply breathtaking. Nestled in the Himalayan mountains and surrounded by the serene beauty of the Ganges River, it's a place like no other. The natural surroundings, the harmony of the nearby villages, and the majestic mountains create an atmosphere of tranquility and peace that is truly sublime. The swamis and staff at the ashram were exceptionally warm and friendly. They not only made us feel welcome but also imparted invaluable teachings that will stay with me for a lifetime. Living the ashram life is a unique experience, and I am infinitely grateful for having had the opportunity to immerse myself in it. The meals provided were not only delicious but also nutritious, and the accommodations were comfortable and more than adequate. I had no issues whatsoever during my stay. The TTC itself was incredibly comprehensive, covering various aspects of yoga in depth. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in deepening their yoga practice and teaching skills. I'm already looking forward to the possibility of returning in the near future.
