This is one of my favorite places on my list to visit for such a long time. We visit there twice but only once we went inside. Good to visit it both at night and during the day. I highly recommend you choose your visit time in a way to have enough time and enjoy your coffee while walking in the site and feeling amazed by this marvelous architecture.

The number place to visit in Samarkand - the Registon. The place is huge- allow yourself 3-4 hours if you want to deeply appreciate the place and its history. Tour guide and audio guide are available at the gate. The ticket is 65,000 Som per person. The place was a school before and now the classrooms, professors’ office were turned into souvenir shops.

Amazing structure with an entry ticket at just USD 5. Most of it was restored in 1930 so what we see now wasn't the original artwork, but it's still mesmerising nonetheless. There's a huge park surrounding the area and the locals like to hangout here with their families, I even saw a wedding photoshoot being held in the viewing platform. I love history and visiting historical buildings gives me a huge amount of serotonin. Also, I'm all for the souvenir shops and stalls available near all the historical structures in the world. It's part of the charm and oftentimes I will get something for a keepsake. However, it saddens me that when I enter each of the structures inside Registan Square, they convert each empty space to be a souvenir store. I appreciate that the sellers are not pushy and forcing us to buy something from them, but then again seeing hundreds of years old structure doesn't have that same feeling when you come inside and find people selling local crafts. I expect to see them outside, or next to the building 😂

I have seen a thousand pictures and documentaries about this place but non of them actually compare to being here and seeing the place with your own eyes. Be sure to walk all the way around the outside of the walls and visit the lovely parks. Go early in the morning to avoid the tourist herds. Rent a bicycle nearby at the pedestrian walkway

We went to Registon Square in the evening and enjoyed it so much! At night the square lights up and has a different atmosphere. The cost to enter for foreigners is 50000 sum and for locals only 5000. We also managed to buy a beautiful Uzbek made scarf for just 120000 sum which is a reasonable price for such a touristy place.

Registan Square is a real dessert for a magic dinner table. My advice to you is this - visit other historical monuments during the day. And when the sun goes down, dessert for your eyes and soul will be ready. Try not to go to the square directly, but look for another way in the dark near walls. And then, suddenly, an amazing beauty will flash in front of your eyes.

Breathtaking display of art and history, a do-not-miss for Uzbekistan. The details are really incredible - both well preserved and restored. Enter the actual site during the day when you can see all the details, and then return at night just to observe the site from the outside lit up.

Extraordinary. Huge. Spend a lot of time (and take a lot of pictures.). We were there most of the day and went back after dinner to take some night-time pictures. Lots of families - kids, parents, grandparents, groups of friends.... In the day, be sure to visit Babur's Music Shop within the complex also.

Magical place! To visit the Registan (3 buildings) we had to pay 5 euro per person (50.000 sum). It's really beautiful and we visited twice (one in the morning and one in the evening). The ticket is valid ONLY one entrance!

I like the tone there! Unfortunately because of Macron we couldn’t come inside the mosque, so I could only take the video of it. If you need content for your blog, there are many beautiful places for it there. Don’t miss free “excursion” in several shops about Uzbekistan ceramics. It was interesting! In gardens you can listen to live traditional music Try to visit Registan late evening to see the show if someone paid it :)

Registan unlikely it’s name it’s totally different. An ancient building with well organized maintenance. Visited there on 24 July 2021 and felt the love and beauty of Samarkand. If you are in Samarkand Or Uzbekistan please never try to miss to visit this marvelous site. Many newly married couples visit this place for a memorable photo shot. I found at least 03 couple and had pictures with them.

Really nice place I have visited before. Remarkable minarets of buildings stood like new even though they have been built several centuries ago. Also there is great opportunity to speak with foreigners and talking with them about their lifestyle, culture and country. Also that is great to take postive feedback from tourists. Highly recommend to visit old center of islamic culture

Amazing. A magnificent mixture of Islamic art, culture and heritage. It is a must! Go observe the details of the art in day light, and come back at night when the complex is beautifully lit and have a coffee and some deep thoughts while overlooking this masterpiece. I visited recently (post covid) and it was sad to see how such an amazing place is so empty of visitors. It should be a worldwide travel destination!

No proper information about the light show timings. We were told it'll start at 8pm, it started finally at 8:45pm and lasted for 16 min. This was on Sunday, and the show was a story about the history of samarkand from ancient times till modern era. On Monday, the show started at 8:30pm, but it was different. Just different colors displayed to the tune of various songs, and it went on for more than 30 min.

Famous Registan...for a better experience, you can visit it at night. Although the entrance will be closed at night, the view will be amazing. Entry tickets cost 20,000 local sums ($2.5) for foreigners and 3,000 local sums for locals.

A beautiful three Madrassahs standing distinctively on the Registan. A very busy tourist attraction, not only for foreigners but also for the local tourists. Each Madrassh has its own symbols and patterns as architectural features. Very impressive and beautiful. BE AWARE with a good contact its possible to have a nice view from the top... at night, around 6 pm in wintertime, there is a lights show, really nice. Many vendors sell their crafts. Most times you can see wedded couples getting photographed here. The tile works are amazing. Well worth seeing.

100% worth it but be aware that it's been turned into one huge souvenir shop. I recommend going at dusk. That's when the lighting is best and you'll get the best photos. It reminded me a lot of the Santa Fe plaza or any other tourist center like that. The big difference I loved was the vendors didn't harass me. No one begged me to go in their shop, no one shouted about big sales. They might have offered for me to come in once, they might not have even spoken at all. I actually did buy something today and that's unheard of for me at souvenir shops like this. I love shopping in Uzbekistan.

The must see place of Samarkand , do not miss exploring all 3 mussolems, amazing place steeped in rich history. Do not miss the Zoroastrian twist in one of the blocks ...The interiors laden with gold makes your jaw drop. Dress modestly and cover the head while entering inside. I wish I had more time to spend here. Do not miss a photo op with the tourist police. Locals may also ask you for photos.

(Translated by Google) The main squares in the cities of the Middle East were called "Registan". Samarkand Square is the most famous register [1] due to the famous architectural ensemble of the 15th-17th centuries located on it, the center of which is Ulugbek Madrasah (1417-1420), Sherdor Madrasah (1619-1636) and Tillya-Kari Madrasah (1646 -1660). The ensemble of three madrasahs is a unique example of the art of urban planning and a wonderful example of the architectural design of the main square of the city. It is one of the clearest examples of Islamic architecture. In 2001, this ensemble, along with other ancient historical buildings of Samarkand, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Registan is a complex of 3 buildings with lush green gardens and walkways around. It is living example of master craftsmanship of the artists of that era. Words cant do justice to the beautiful patterns and aw inspiring colors of turquoise and indigo with hints of gold. It holds you captive for days and days even after your visit.

Loved it. So historical and beautifully restored. There were more vendors inside than I anticipated but that didn't deter from the experience. A bit more detail and English descriptions would help too. Highlight was the 3D light show with audio (Uzbek language only) that we experienced one evening. We learned later that this special performance is only done by paying a 25 million fee. Thank you to whoever splurged for it and let us ask experience the show!

The most important tourist attraction in the city of Samarkand, the buildings are a witness to the great scientific status of the city and its scientists throughout the ages, and the beauty of the buildings continues even in the evening with light shows every day at eight-thirty.

This place is simultaneously deeply magical and tourist-trappy. The architecture is stunningly unique and lavishly decorated, but I imagine that the visionaries who built these monuments would be appalled at the mercantilism that fills each and every nook and cranny of these rooms that were dedicated to study.

(Translated by Google) General impression: Breathtaking, no photos and videos can convey this beauty and grandeur ADVANTAGES: A unique place, an endless variety of patterns and ornaments, you feel the breath of time LIMITATIONS: No Registan Square exceeded all my expectations. A place of unearthly beauty and unique energy. The area is surrounded by madrassas. When I looked at these buildings in the photographs, I wondered - where are the classes for classes, libraries? Indeed, in fact there are only walls and a courtyard. It turns out that classes with students were conducted in the courtyard in special niches, where they were reliably protected from the scorching sun. Here is the "ceiling" of one of these niches: Studying in such a place is a holiday in the most literal sense. I don’t want to leave from here.   Bewitching shades of turquoise. Why is there so much blue, because the color of Islam is green? The guide explained that blue is a dream of coolness in hot days. By the way, I advise you not to skimp on the guide, you will get an interesting story in addition to the unique visual range. I was only a little upset by the fact that many of these unique buildings are “collapsing”, the minarets are similar to the leaning towers of Pisa. This is a consequence of earthquakes. You can’t always get to the square, we got on the second attempt, since there was a rehearsal of some kind of festival. Without exaggeration, one of the most unique places on earth.

A monumental public square in the Uzbek city of Samarkand on the historic Silk Road. Six centuries ago, Registan Square was the center of commercial life in one of the world’s wealthiest cities, Samarkand. The city had grown rich on account of its location on the Silk Road trade route between China and the West. In the 14th century, it had also become the capital of the empire created by the warrior Timur the Lame. It was Timur’s grandson Ulugh Beg who, between 1417 and 1420, built the first of the three madrasas—Muslim schools—that now dominate the square. The Ulugh Beg madrasa developed into one of the most important centers of learning in the Islamic world. The other two were built in the 17th century, completing an architectural ensemble of breathtaking splendor. A square of madrasas. The Ulugh Beg madrasa, and the Sher-Dor madrasa built to mirror it on the opposite side of the square, have vast portals flanked by free-standing minarets. The Tilya-Kori madrasa has a lower facade with minarets attached. Behind each of the portals were lecture halls, student dormitories, and a mosque. Samarkand is now one of the major tourist attractions of Uzbekistan.

The Registan was the heart of the ancient city of Samarkand of the Timurid Empire, now in Uzbekistan. The name Rēgistan (ریگستان) means "sandy place" or "desert" in Persian. The Registan was a public square, where people gathered to hear royal proclamations, heralded by blasts on enormous copper pipes called dzharchis - and a place of public executions. It is framed by three madrasahs (Islamic schools) of distinctive Islamic architecture. The square was regarded as the hub of the Timurid Renaissance. The three madrasahs of the Registan are: the Ulugh Beg Madrasah (1417–1420), the Tilya-Kori Madrasah (1646–1660) and the Sher-Dor Madrasah (1619–1636). Madrasah is an Arabic term meaning school.

Beautiful place to visit, this place has lost that historical energy, because everything inside are rented by souvenir shops, but at least you can take a good pictures with old architecture!

  • 5/5 Melantha S. 2 years ago on Google
Especially beautiful in the night. Lots of people walking around for their wedding photos. Definitely worth visiting. Some people try to charge you a fortune to go up the towers, you only need to say no though 🤷🏻‍♀️ The museum is nice.

Beautiful architecture and the restoration is very good. The place is full of souvenir stores, which can be annoying but, well, it was a market in medieval times! Cheaper than Bukhara 😉

Beautiful architecture, amazing stonework. the main attraction of Samarkand. The light show at 20:00 is nice but the building is more fascinating during sunset as the golden colours mix with extremely well. For photographers: take a wide angle lens and telephoto lens to capture details. As mentioned by the Lonely Planet: guards will indeed offer to take you on top of a minaret for about 10$. I don’t know whether it’s worth it.

  • 5/5 Carl M. 1 year ago on Google
An absolutely stunning place for tourists to visit, one of the most spectacular historical sights that I have had the privilege of visiting. The ticket is around $5 and is good for one visit, the trick is to come around an hour before sunset to get some beautiful golden hour pics and then wait for night to fall when their light show begins it’s mesmerising.

  • 5/5 Amine B. 1 year ago on Google
I used to see these buildings and read its history only in books or at school, and I was always saying these buildings are don’t exist. When I was there I was fascinating with the beauty of these buildings, architecture, history and the people that used to study or teach here. Registan should be listed on the seven wonders without hesitating. The entrance fee is 50.000 Sum and you need to pay extra if you want to go up. This place is a must to be seen during your trip in Samarkand. Try to visit the place during the sunset 🌅

Large area containing 3 old schools. We lived the history here and we loved the colored huge gates and walls. 3 hours spent with my kids without feeling of it. We entered from the exit gate because we didn't know about the main entrance and it was open, so after an hour a security came and ask us to go to the office to buy tickets. When i went there i met another security who gave us used tickets and asking to buy it from him directly! After a long discussion he let me to buy it from the ticket office and he was upset with that!

Must see attractions. The architecture impresses you, especially if it's your first appointment to visit. Amazing assembly of ancient buildings, which form rectangular military square. Don't be lazy, walk around, there are a lot of little hidden gardens. After that you can move either towards Amir Tamer mausoleum or Bibi mausoleum

  • 5/5 Lara S. 10 months ago on Google
Absolutely stunning. You can see the square for free from the platform just outside, but definitely worth buying the ticket (around £3) that gives you access all day (but only one entrance, if you leave the square you have to buy another ticket), as well as access to all the buildings within the square.

Nice cultural set of buildings to take your back to an era. Great walking through the buildings. Gazing upwards at the domes inside and outside. Download the app to listen to the online guide. There are also nice gifts. Also, shops where you can get dressed up in traditional clothes for a photo shoot.

This place is just mind blowing!! Definitely a must to visit in Samarkand. I came there 4 times, because this place is just stunning. Make sure to come early around 8am so that the whole place will be empty. Apart from it, every day at 9pm there a light show, which is worth seeing as well. It’s for free the show
